March 2021 summary
1.
2.
3. We finished building
a giant retaining wall
where we had to
remove the earth to
build Yrnaâs home.
The home will be
marked April 5 and
building will begin.
This is our most
challenging home-
build to date! This
added a very large
expense to this
project.
4. Thanks to some very
kind donors, we
were able to help
our volunteers, Alise
and Raul toward
finishing their home
5. The second story of our Starfish
Center in Javillar has progressed
rapidly. We now have the roof
poured and work continues. We
thank our dedicated crew and our
donors who have helped make this
happen! The funds were raised
from our annual auction and
matched by doTerra Healing Hands
Foundation. We also received a
donation from Gay Lee Foundation.
6. Thanks to gracious
donors, in addition to
English classes, we were
able to start a pedicure
and manicure course to
help the women of
Baraguana become
more self-sufficient.
7. Thanks to funds raised by
Christina and Anton Welke and
to donated time by Stirling,
Gabe, Rigo and more, we were
able to provide a ramp so that
Zaida could get outside of her
home. Both her legs were
recently amputated as a result of
complications from diabetes.
8. We continue to deliver food
to hungry people in many
communities including,
Javillar, San Marcos, Imbert,
Llanos de Perez, San Rafael de
Yuma, Baraguana, Loma
Blanca, Los Polomos, Playa
Oeste and more.
9. March 25, the Rodriguez family were able to
move into their beautiful new home! Thank
you to the Fackrell family for this blessing!
10. Another family we met from Javillar is
Angelina, Jeyson and their son. The home
they are living in is being sold and they have
no place to go. They have been working little
by little to build a home but because of Covid
and unemployment, they have been unable to
complete it. We are helping them to finish.
11. From Joan Perozo in San
Rafael de Yuma, we learned of
the heart-breaking conditions
of this senior man, Ramon.
He has been sleeping on
cardboard on his dirt floor.
He had no food in his home
and is ill.
Thanks to Tonya, Chad and
Tristan Greiner and their
friends, Ramon is going to
receive a new home. Great
progress was made in the
month of March.
12. We hosted a St. Patrick's day fundraiser and raised $1400 in
one day to help with our projects. Congratulations to Karen
Wood, one of our regular supporters who won the gift card.
13. A new home was started in Javillar
for Lislibeth and her family. Thanks
again to our volunteers, Stirling and
Gabe and their families for helping
with this project.
14. For years we have been helping Pastor Frank and his wife Rosa to
help others through their school and church. Covid-19 created a
crisis. They lost the school and church building because they were
unemployed and couldnât pay rent. Upon learning that their family
was suffering in hunger, we put a plea out to those who have been
to their school and have seen their good works. Not only did we
obtain money for food, we were also able to raise enough that
they will be able to start a small business to support themselves.
Nothing makes us happier than helping others to help themselves.
15. Yubelkes and Andre and
their 6 children live in
extreme poverty in
Javillar. Dr. Darin Orr
started a fundraiser for
them to have a home.
There have been many
generous donations so far
and we hope to start
building for them in June.
16. We are finally
helping him to have
a place of his own.
Funds are still
needed to complete
this project.
Rigo has worked for our foundation since we started building homes in
2013. He is one of our most conscientious and dedicated employees. He
doesnât own a home of his own but lives in a rental that is being sold.
17. We would like to give a big shout out to Dr Twede (Dermatologist) and
Dr. Davis (ENT) from Colorado for donating some amazing professional
service in our Starfish Center on March 22-23. Over 200 people came
for appointments. Thanks to so many volunteers who helped make this
event a success! The doctors and their wives and teenage children also
purchased and delivered food packs in the community.
18. Early in February we met
Glenys. She has 2 children,
has been living in an abusive
situation and was being
evicted because she couldnât
pay the rent. The situation
was extreme and urgent. On
Valentineâs Day we posted a
fundraiser and thanks to
generous donors were able in
just 2 days to raise most of
the funds needed for a home.
The excavation starting the
very next day. The beautiful
little home is now complete.
Thanks everyone!!
