Dominican Starfish Foundation May Update
1.
2. The Pimenter Family received their beautiful new
home on May 26. This was built by Fernando,
Miguel and crew. We are grateful to all who donated
to make this possible!
3. Lula and her family received their new home
on May 27. Thanks to Amarilis, Segundo
and our Javillar crew for the construction.
Thank you to Ruby Best and her family for
donating the funds for this home!
4. Our newest projects
As homes are finished, new projects always appear and
fortunately people usually step up to the plate to help.
Can you
imagine cracks
in a concrete
wall big
enough to put
your hands
through?
Carmen is a
single mom
with two
daughters and
a grandson.
They really
need our help!
If you see this and would
like to assist this family,
please message Louise for
the link to donate.
5. Angelica needs our help. She is a senior
citizen living in the community of Javillar.
When people choose to sponsor a home,
she has always been overlooked because
she doesn’t have children. Single people
need us too. Angelica’s house is being
eaten by termites and the beams are tied
together with plastic. With your help, this
could be the next home built in Javillar. As
well as blessing Angelica it would help
keep our workers employed! Message
Louise for more information.
6. Dominga’s apartment will be built on top
of her mother’s home and construction
will start soon.
We finished fundraising
for Dominga’s home on
Mother’s Day, May 8th.
8. Because of strict
government codes and
regulations in the area
where David and
Sheyla own land, they
were required to jump
through many hoops
to have their home
built.
In addition to several donations through the
foundation, David and Sheyla and their extended family
have contributed much to help complete this home.
They will be moving in during the month of June.
9. Last November, members of the Dominican Starfish Foundation Home
Building Committee donated and raised funds for Fernando and his family
to have a new home as a surprise for them. He is one of our construction
managers. He, Miguel and crew have been spending so much time on
other homes and the school maintenance that his home is taking longer to
build than hoped. They should be moving in during the month of June.

Javillar has begun. Thanks to all who
have helped make this possible!

Jefrey is one of our most reliable,
long-time workers on our Javillar
team. His home is progressing rapidly.
11. Excavation has
begun for the
home of Jordy and
his family. His
little girl Amy just
finished her last
chemo treatment
for Leukemia.
They are in our
prayers.

and Dominican Mother’s Day, May 29. Our
volunteers delivered food in 3 different communities.
14. We were very fortunate to receive our first
donation of securities. Canada Helps is set
up to do it simply. They work with 68000
Canadian Charities, Dominican Starfish
Foundation being one of them. People can
choose the charity to donate to.
You don't have to pay capital gains tax when
you donate directly to a charity. We are excited
about offering this option!! The link below will
take you to the site. It's easy and safe and so
appreciated!!

15. This is not directly related to Dominican Starfish Foundation, but I
wanted to brag on Ramon because he is one of our own starfish.
When Ramon was only 12 years old, we built a home for his mom Jenny and their family
in Javillar. It was one of our first ones. Now he is all grown up and has been signed by a
major baseball league. Read the following newspaper article from the Dominican.
"Oakland signs a native prospect of the populous El
Javillar sector of Puerto Plata
PUERTO PLATA.- A native prospect of the El Javillar
sector in this city was signed this Wednesday by the
Atléticos de Oakland organization.
This is the young Ramón, who is the son of Gary and
Jenny, grandson of Doña Digna, who make up a
humble family living on seventh Street in the
aforementioned sector.
The signing of the aforementioned prospect as a
professional baseball player, has caused a lot of joy in
that Puerto Plata neighborhood, since he was always
focused working to achieve his dream."
Ramón was seen practicing in the pleyball, running on
the sand of Costámbar beach and helping his father in
his pig breeding work.”
