Dominican Starfish Foundation focuses on 5 different areas of help for the Dominican Republic. Shelter, Food and Clothing, Health and Wellness, Education and Employment.
2. The first two levels of our Starfish Center are completed and beautiful! We
are now renting out the Starfish Humanitarian Suites on the second level.
3. Center
Jeff and Natalie Ball from Raymond, Alberta were our first paying guests to
stay in our Starfish Humanitarian Suites on the second level of our center.
They spent many days in the center and the community doing service
projects. Jeff is a prosthetist. He will be returning every six months to
donate his services to those who need prosthetic limbs.
Thanks so much to Jose Vasquez, the director of our center for the countless
hours off preparation, painting, maintenance and more that he has done,
and thanks to his wife, Denny, who did the cooking for their family.

6. During their stay at our new Starfish Suites, the Ball family enjoyed a life-
changing experience by giving so much community service including:
• purchasing and delivering food packs
• buying a washing machine and baby bed for Lula’s family
• helping with construction work and cleaning
• hosting a party at the park for the children in the community
• delivering school supplies that they brought
• delivering clothing and toys that they brought
• hosting a birthday party for Amarilis and more!!

8. On June 21, 2021, we announced to David and Sheyla that they would be getting a new home.
Funds were raised for Amarilis’s birthday. Sheyla is her daughter and helps so much with the
foundation. Due to unforeseen government red tape because of zoning and regulations, the
home cost much more than normal and the family also had to find funds for construction. David
and Sheyla moved in exactly one year later June 21, 2022. We are so happy for them.
9. Last November, members of the Dominican Starfish Foundation Home Building Committee
donated and raised funds for Fernando and his family to have a new home as a surprise for
them. He is one of our construction managers. He, Miguel and crew have been spending so
much time on other homes and the school maintenance that his home is taking longer to build
than hoped. This home also cost more than planned. Because it is right near the port, a metal
roof rusts out in less than a year. A concrete roof was a better choice but costly. Fernando and
family planned to move into the unfinished home this week, but generous donors have made it
possible to complete the inside. They will be moving in July.
10. Our newest projects
As homes are finished, new projects always appear and
fortunately people usually step up to the plate to help.
Can you
imagine cracks
in a concrete
wall big
enough to put
your hands
through?
Carmen is a
single mom
with two
daughters and
a grandson.
They really
need our help!
Fundraising went well in June for this
project. We could still use some extra
help. We are having someone
matching funds in July so everything
you donate will be doubled! Please
contact Louise for more information
and if you are interested in helping.
11. Fundraising was started for Angelica in June. She still
needs our help. She is a senior citizen living in the
community of Javillar. When people choose to
sponsor a home, she has always been overlooked
because she doesn’t have children. Single people
need us too. Angelica’s house is being eaten by
termites and the beams are tied together with plastic.
With your help, this could be the next home built in
Javillar. As well as blessing Angelica it would help
keep our workers employed! We also have a
generous donor matching funds for this home the
first week of July. Message Louise for more
information.
12. Happy Birthday June 21 to Amarilis, our Dominican director of
Dominican Starfish Foundation. Her birthday wish is for her
junior assistant, Raidely and her mom to have a new home.
Raidely is 12 years old and helps with so many things. She is
training to be the future director of the foundation. Amarilis
donated her own money to start the project.
We started building the tiny home soon after. We don’t have
all the needed funds yet, but our construction workers needed
work, so they started. Many of you have met Raidely. If you
would like to help, please message Louise for more
information.
13. Yamika is a young single mom who grew up in
Maggiolo where we built our first school in 2012.
She was then a young girl of 15 living with her
grandma.
Yamika has been asked to leave her rental place.
She has this much done on her home. She has
done this through very hard work on her own.
She no longer has a job and has reached out to
us for help. $3000US would be enough so she
could live in the unfinished space.
If you would like to help, please contact Louise
for more information.
14. Parging is a large and expensive part of each
home that we build. This process is almost
finished in Daniel and Mirlande’s home at least
on the inside. It will soon be ready for the floor,
followed by the doors and windows, then the
kitchen and porch and finally the electricity,
plumbing and paint. They should be moving
into their home in July.
15. Jefrey is one of our most
reliable, long-time workers
on our Javillar team. His
home is progressing rapidly.
The parging is now finished.
His home should be complete
in 2 weeks, and he and his
wife and children will be able
to move into their beautiful
new place. Thanks to
everyone who has helped!!
16. We have had a slow start on Jordy’s home. In the
area where we are building, there are no water
lines. He would have to purchase water weekly at
great expense. We made the decision to build a
cistern for the family. We also need so much
water on a construction site for cement work and
more, so this will help as well. The cistern is
completed, the foundation is poured and brick-
laying has begun. We hope to have Jordy in his
home by sometime in August.
17. We are thrilled to have a sponsor for another
university student, Alicia Cabrera. She will be
studying accounting.
Thanks so much to Steve and Karen McArthur for
helping her to get her education. Thanks also to
Lourel Meeks who donated a laptop computer to
help her in her studies.
We are now helping 8 university students.
Education makes such a difference. We have more
on our list who need help to make schooling
possible. If you would like to sponsor a student,
please message Louise for more information!
18. An amazing group of
young women from
Las Vegas Nevada
donated school
supplies and packed
700 pounds of school
kits for the children in
the Youth Upliftment
School in the
Dominican Republic!
A special thanks to
the organizer, Kathy
Jones!!
What a
blessing
this will be
for the
students
and the
teachers!!
19. One of the mandates of our foundation is to help
when we can with medical emergencies.
Adriams is the son of Yrna for whom we built a
home. He was unfortunately in a motor bike
accident, and we were able to raise funds and
through the generous help of donors assisted in
paying for the surgeries that were required.
THANK YOU TO THOSE WHO HELPED WITH THIS!!
20. For the third time in a year, we have had the services of Dr. Eric McEntire, Doctor of
Chiropractic and his wife, Tagen, specialist in doTerra Symphony of the Cells. They visited
Puerto Plata and gave hundreds of appointments to the people there. Each time they
have brought a large team of volunteers with them.
In June they worked in the communities of Javillar (at our center), Llanos de Perez and
Baraguana. THANK YOU TO THEM FOR THIS AMAZING SERVICE.
21.
22. We would also like to shout out to Merlin ZoBell from Stirling, Alberta who went to host the
Chiropractors. He served with them in all the clinics, set up transportation,
accommodations, meals and more.
Merlin also set up a visit to the senior men’s home that we supported years ago. The group
took food for the residents, as well as delivering food packs in the community.
23. In addition to 4 communities where families are sponsored for monthly help with
food, we had 3 visiting groups deliver food packs to additional areas where people
suffer in poverty.
Clothing is delivered from our distribution center on a regular basis.
24. June was an
amazing month
for Dominican
Starfish
Foundation and
for the people of
the Dominican
Republic.
We always look
forward to the
miracles that the
next month will
bring.
THANKS EVERYONE FOR YOUR AMAZING SUPPORT!!
