The Fackrell family from Utah spent a month in the Dominican Republic doing humanitarian work. They brought supplies, taught piano lessons, donated musical instruments, helped renovate buildings, hosted weddings, distributed food and clothes, and helped construct homes. They also hosted medical clinics and mentored local partners on strategic planning to help communities in need.

2. June 1-30, Jake and Tamara Fackrell and their
family from Utah spent an entire month dedicated
to humanitarian work in the Dominican Republic
They arrived with 14 suitcases filled with
humanitarian items that they had collected.
Tamara and her mother, Mary Ashworth wrote a
beginning piano book and got it translated into
Spanish. They made 100 copies to take with them.

3. Both Tamara and Mary spent many hours teaching piano lessons to the
children in several communities.

4. They donated 12 piano
keyboards, some to the
most promising,
graduating students and
some to be left in the
Starfish Center for future
instruction.

5. Tiffany and Nando Rodriguez also visited
the Dominican Republic with the Fackrell
family. Their son Gabe had been there
helping with construction for 3 months.
Tiffany helped with the expenses for Nancy
and Roberto’s wedding and also raised and
donated funds for Rigo’s home. Tiffany and
Nando joined Tamara and Jake to do a
community conference on marriage and
business building.

6. The Fackrell family helped to paint Rigo’s
home. Rigo is one of our most trusted and
loyal construction workers who has been with
us for 8 years now.

Mya Sala
from Alberta
also spent
the month of
June
volunteering
in the
community
with the
Fackrell
family.

8. With construction continuing on
our center on the second level, the
original needed a facelift.
The Fackrell family and others
painted the front of the building in
preparation for the upcoming
weddings and community events.

9. Progress continues on our center and completion is projected for August 31.

10. The Fackrell family helped to host two weddings in our center. This is the
wedding celebration for Cesarina and Marino.

donated for
and hosted
Nancy and
Roberto’s
Wedding
Celebration!

12. Tamara purchased items that could be left at
the Starfish Center for future weddings,
birthday parties and community events.
These included tables, tablecloths, chair
covers, table centers, charger plates,
decorator ribbons in 7 different colors and
more!

13. Along with Fernando, Tamara helped to plan a surprise birthday party for Amarilis, our director.
Tamara was one of the only ones who knew that Louise would be flying in from Canada as a
surprise for the birthday. Her family picked Louise up at the airport and helped organize the
big birthday surprise!!

14. For Amarilis’s birthday, we raised the money for her daughter, Sheyla and husband David to have a
new home in Javillar where they will be able to help with the daily operations of the foundation.

15. With the new décor many more parties and
celebrations have been held at our center.

16. The Fackrell family made a major donation
to our ongoing playground project. Finally,
we have the first equipment with more to
come! They also did an amazing job of
painting the fence around the property.
The paint and so many hours were donated
to this project! A special thanks also to
Lease and Mya Sala for the many hours
they spent painting the playground, helping
with homes and more.

18. Stirling Fackrell
participated in
every part of the
building of
Lislibeth’s home.
The family did
the final touches
by painting the
home. The home
was presented to
the family on
June 23rd.

19. The Fackrell family helped to
demolish another home that was
about to be rebuilt.

20. The Fackrell family
brought and
delivered hundreds
of pounds of clothing
donations in the
community of
Javillar.

21. The Fackrell and Sala families donated and delivered 75 large food packs to hungry
families in the community of Javillar. Even the little 2-year-old passed out candy.

22. We would like to thank the
Fackrell family, the
Rodriguez family and the
Sala family for their
amazing service in the
month of June. During
their stay they really
became part of the
community and reached
out in so many ways. They
have forever left a mark on
the community of Javillar in
the Dominican Republic!

23. These three members of the Fackrell family,
Ashdon, Sam and Stirling lived and served for 6
months in Javillar. They returned home with
their family on June 30. They helped in so many
ways, with construction, the playground,
teaching English, sharing life values and more.
We will be forever grateful to them!

24. Other June DSF events!
We received an amazing, generous donation of a motorhome given to our foundation.
We were able to sell it for $29000 from which we have helped five families finish their
homes and will be building a duplex for Benito’s family and his sister’s family.

25. The names are Benito Louis 31 yrs.
Wife is Anion 23 yrs. The children
are Benita 8yrs., Benyi 6 yrs and
Benson 1 yr.

Her first baby was born when she
was 15.
They are so grateful to be
receiving this help!!
Soon after the donation of the
motorhome, we learned of the living
conditions of one of our most reliable
and capable construction workers.
His name is Benito. He had been
saving every penny to start a home of
sticks which you can see in this
picture. We are grateful to be able to
build a duplex for him and his sister
who jointly own a small piece of
property.

26. Before the pandemic, Edrina had a job at
Lifestyle Resort where we stay. Since
March, 2020 she has been unemployed and
unable to care for her family.
She has also been unable to make the small
payments on her home. She was 3 months
behind on payments and was going to lose
her home to the bank for $700 USD. We
were able to do a little fundraiser and help
her save her home. She also has enough to
provide for her family for several months.
She is actively seeking employment.

27. In addition to
Lislibeth’s home,
previously
mentioned, we
were able to
complete the
homes for the
Agramonte
family and Yrna’s
family during the
month of June.

28. Health and Wellness
One of our mandates is to help with health conditions and medical emergencies. One of
our construction workers (not working on one of our projects at the time of the accident)
fell from a 3-story building in Santiago onto his face. We were able to pay for his medical
tests and treatments. Fortunately, the injuries were limited to his face, and he is
recovering. We are so grateful that it wasn’t more serious!

29. We hosted our first-
ever humanitarian
Chiropractic clinic at
our Starfish Center
in Javillar. We had
Dr. Eric McEntire
and his wife Tagen
(who helped people
with doTerra
essential oils) from
Utah, Dr. Allison
Bremner from
Colorado, and Kevin
Castroreyes, Luca
O’Brien and Granger
Brown, chiropractic
students from
Florida.

30. They
served in
the
community
in many
different
ways for 5
days.

31. As we look to the future
for Dominican Starfish
Foundation, we are
exploring ways to create
sustainability.
We have created a
100/100 Club and are
looking for 100 people
who can donated $100
per month. All size
donations are greatly
appreciated. With
money coming in on a
monthly basis, we will
be able to assist in many
ways without creating a
fundraiser for each
project!

32. Dr. Darrel L. Hammon, Ph.D. a former community college
president and consultant from Utah began mentoring our team
on a volunteer basis to help us in our strategic planning. We are
so grateful for his help. Louise met Darrel in 2012 while he was
serving with his wife as humanitarian missionaries in the
Dominican Republic.
Both Dominican Starfish Foundation supporters in Canada and
our Dominican Starfish Team from the USA, Pal Humanitarian met
with Dr. Hammon and created some strategic plans for our
future. We thank everyone on both sides of the border for
coming together to help the growth of our foundation as we
work together to serve in the Dominican Republic.
