A DREAM COME TRUE!!
What an awesome experience. There was standing room
only at the grand opening of our new playground in Javillar
on February 14, 2022. It is just beautiful!! THANKS TO
EVERYONE WHO HAS HELPED TO MAKE A HUGE
DIFFERENCE!! This has been in the works for 4 years and a
dream of our Dominican director Amarilis for over 30 years!!
Two 13-year-old girls, Lila
Jensen and Ivy Wright went
door to door in their
community of Magrath,
Alberta collecting donations
to help in the Dominican
Republic. They raised money
for 4 projects including:
1. Food packs for 3 families
2. Paint for a home for an
elderly widow.
3. A kitchen for the same
home that was being
painted
4. A bed for a family living
in very impoverished
conditions
13 volunteer, ages
4-74. painted
Gloria’s home.
Her house was
built 8 years ago,
the #2 home for
the foundation
and really needed
a facelift.
Thanks to all our
volunteers!!
New kitchen counters
for Victoria and a new
sink for her kitchen!
Thanks Lila and Ivy for
and all the donors.
We were also able to get a new
door and window for the front
of the home as the original
ones had been eaten by
termites.
Bonnie Jensen from Magrath, Alberta
collected and brought 250 pounds of
diapers, wipes, formula, diaper cream,
children’s Tylenol and more to
distribute to moms in the Dominican
Republic. Thanks to all the donors
who made this possible!!
Over 1500 pounds of
donations of
clothing, shoes and
more were delivered
to stock our
distribution center.
Food packs
were delivered
to hungry
families in 4
communities.
The roof on
Fernando
and
Vickyana’s
home is
getting ready
to have the
cement
poured.
Pimenter
Family
After a delay on starting this home last fall,
we have been able to find a way to get the
materials up a very steep hill so we can help
this family with a new home.
David and
Sheyla’s home
is moving
forward. Now
they are
working on the
parging.
Lula has 5 children and is living in great
poverty in Javillar in the Dominican Republic..
Ruby Best and her family from Utah have
sponsored her to have a new home. It will be
completed in March or April.
Elias's health problems began 13 years ago in 2009. One
day he got up and couldn't walk. He went to the doctor.
They found some herniated discs in his back. A very
unsuccessful surgery followed leaving him unable to
walk.
Elias then lost his job and could no longer care for his
family. Neighbors and friends have been helping. These
same neighbors and friends have pleaded with
Dominican Starfish Foundation to help him. The
foundation of his home is very unstable and could
crumble at any time. The walls are cracked, the floor is
cracked, the roof is leaking. Any day the house could fall.
We are still looking for help with Elias’s
home. It will be started next. Contact the
foundation if you can help.

This family has been working so hard to
better their lives. Over the past few
years, they have collected 500
cinderblocks of 2000 they need for a
new home. They have 4 children. The
family and the home are very clean but
the situation they live in is so difficult.
The walls are made of cardboard and the
roof is falling in. We are looking for
someone or a group to sponsor this
sweet family.

Children who are
hungry have a much
harder time learning.
We are thrilled that
Sheila Layton who is
on our board and
her sister Kathy
Jones from Las Vegas
raised over $3500
toward the lunch
program at the
Youth Upliftment
School. They were
able to participate in
shopping for the
items.
Sheila and Kathy will also be taking over our part of the
sponsorship program. They spent a day taking photos
and getting profile information for 85 more children at
the school. Watch for opportunities to sponsor a child.
Thomas and Cindy Juul-
Larsen and family brought
each child a tennis ball
from Denmark. What joy
these simple gifts brought
to the children. The family
have now returned home
to raise funds for the
school to have a new
playground. Everyone is
thrilled for that!!
The Juul-Larsens
also sponsor 3
children at the
school.
We visited the school with donations of many supplies, treats and toys.
We were able to visit the school in Maggiolo that the foundation
rebuilt in 2012. We were happy to see it with a new coat of paint
and operating successfully.
In February 2022 we were able to
raise funds to help little Liam (4)
who was recently diagnosed with
Leukemia. His father, Jose, works
on the resort where we stay but his
income is not sufficient to pay the
medical expenses associate with
this. Many members at the resort
donated to help.
We were able to present Jose with the funds along
with photos of over 20 families who donated.
We heard that Jesus,
another worker at our
resort, was in desperate
need of help. His mother
has been going downhill
very fast with the ravages
of Parkinson’s disease.
The family hasn’t been
able to provide
adequately for
medications, food and
health care.
We were able to raise
funds mostly from
members of the resort to
assist Jesus so he could
help his mother. He has
already seen major
improvements in her
health situation.
February was a short month, but it was full
of service and generosity for the Dominican
people. Thanks so much to our donors!
