PATENT INFO
DESCRIPTION
Alteplase is a thrombolytic drug.
Alteplase injection is used to
dissolve blood clots that have formed
in the blood vessels.
It is a tissue plasminogen activator
used to treat acute myocardial
infarctions.
METHOD OF
PREPAPARATION
Alteplase is an enzyme that occurs
naturally in man and causes blood
clots to dissolve.
It is a man-made protein manufactured
by recombinant DNA technology.
It is known as tissue plasminogen
activator (TPA), and is made by ovarian
cells from the Chinese hamster.
MECHANISM OF ACTION
Alteplase was the first recombinant
tissue-type plasminogen activator.
Recombinant tissue plasminogen
activator binds to fibrin in thrombus.
Entrapped plasminogen is converted to
plasmin by the plasminogen activator.
Plasmin conversion initiates local
fibrinolysis.
SIDE EFFECTS
 nausea
 vomiting
 low blood pressure
 dizziness
 mild fever
 allergic reactions
