Alluvial soil is soil deposited by rivers, streams, and floodwaters in areas like floodplains, deltas, and alluvial fans. It consists of various proportions of sand, silt, and clay deposited as sediment. Alluvial soil is very fertile due to nutrients like potash, phosphoric acid, and lime. The major alluvial soil regions in India are the northern plains deposited by the Indus, Ganges, and Brahmaputra Rivers as well as areas in Rajasthan, Gujarat, and along the eastern coastal plains.
