The document discusses how anaerobic digestion (AD) can support local authority waste plans. It summarizes presentations given by a panel on the topic, including Alan Douglas from Cleanergy, who discussed Cleanergy's technology for combusting contaminated biogas to produce cleaner gas for energy production. He noted barriers to further AD development like disorganized feedstock collection and the need for long-term feedstock contracts. The panel explored how AD can complement large-scale facilities to optimize output, and how government policies could help encourage more investment in the sector.

January 2024. Green Building (GB), or sustainable building, is the practice of creating structures using processes that are environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout the building life-cycle: design, construction, operation, maintenance, and demolition. Green building goals are to maximize efficiency, minimize resource consumption, protect health and safety, improve productivity, and reduce the environmental impact.
Green building offers many benefits including energy and resource cost savings, property value increase, government incentives, job creation, improved health for occupants, efficient energy use, and reduced pollution.
However, sustainable green building faces challenges such as high initial costs, lack of political support, public awareness, market demand, and lack of green building expertise.
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certificate, developed by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), is the most widely used green building rating system worldwide. LEED certified buildings are more environmentally friendly than conventional buildings.
Policy wise, in 2006, the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) launched the Sustainable Buildings and Climate Initiative (SBCI) to promote sustainable building practices worldwide. The World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) cooperates with various organizations to achieve the Paris Agreement goals. Green building development supports Sustainable Development Goal SDG11: make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable.
In this slideshow, you will learn about the definition, goals, benefits, challenges, LEED certification, UN policy, and global statistics of the green building industry. For more slideshows on environmental sustainability, please visit s2adesign.com
Green energy sourcing is becoming more attractive to industrial consumers as carbon reduction strategies are implemented and levelized costs of electricity from renewables are declining. Options for green energy sourcing range from Self-Generation to Power Purchase Agreements and use of Guarantees of Origin, optionally bundled in green power products. Options differ in technologies and locations of the green energy projects, ownership and risk structures as well as prices. Various initiatives have developed quality requirements and recommendations for green energy sourcing. Based on these criteria a credibility assessment of the options is carried out and mapped against indicative price ranges.

Slides for "Closing the Loop to Advance a New Economy". With the take-make-waste linear model no longer viable, companies are actively pursuing alternative models such as the circular economy, which has captured the imagination of the private sector as a viable approach for decoupling economic growth from resource constraints. The circular economy, an industrial model that is restorative or regenerative by design and intent, aims to keep products, components, and materials at their highest utility at all times, and represents an opportunity worth in excess of $1 trillion for the global economy. In this session, we will explore how companies can leverage circular economy principles and best practices to help eliminate waste throughout the value chain and improve the bottom line.
Progressive companies around the world are developing products and services that will revolutionise industries and deliver transformative change for society and our planet. These solutions are driving new business growth while significantly reducing emissions towards a low-carbon, sustainable future for all.
Accelerating and scaling up implementation across sectors and borders, however, will require a higher level of collaboration than we have ever seen before, between business, government, and NGOs. The Business for the Environment (B4E) COP17 Dialogue aims to facilitate this, bringing stakeholders together to forge new partnerships and take real action on climate change. Leading the way and powering ahead for a clean industrial revolution.
5 min guide to sustainability: Go green - Save money and the planetAnders Lindgren
Going Green – is it just “greenwashing”? Do organizations prefer to just talk about being green rather than really living green? Let’s be pragmatic. The majority of companies do not embrace Green livingprimarily for ideal reasons. It has always been about cost savings. In the form of reduced expenditures or efficiency gains. Nothing wrong with that approach. Actually it’s the core idea of sustainable development. Saving money and the environment at the same time.

"Understanding the Carbon Cycle: Processes, Human Impacts, and Strategies for...MMariSelvam4
The carbon cycle is a critical component of Earth's environmental system, governing the movement and transformation of carbon through various reservoirs, including the atmosphere, oceans, soil, and living organisms. This complex cycle involves several key processes such as photosynthesis, respiration, decomposition, and carbon sequestration, each contributing to the regulation of carbon levels on the planet.
Human activities, particularly fossil fuel combustion and deforestation, have significantly altered the natural carbon cycle, leading to increased atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations and driving climate change. Understanding the intricacies of the carbon cycle is essential for assessing the impacts of these changes and developing effective mitigation strategies.
By studying the carbon cycle, scientists can identify carbon sources and sinks, measure carbon fluxes, and predict future trends. This knowledge is crucial for crafting policies aimed at reducing carbon emissions, enhancing carbon storage, and promoting sustainable practices. The carbon cycle's interplay with climate systems, ecosystems, and human activities underscores its importance in maintaining a stable and healthy planet.
In-depth exploration of the carbon cycle reveals the delicate balance required to sustain life and the urgent need to address anthropogenic influences. Through research, education, and policy, we can work towards restoring equilibrium in the carbon cycle and ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.
