Water is vital for the entire aspects of life and also an important feature that defines our planet. Deprived water quality due to poor wastewater management is a crisis faced by every country in the world. This crisis affects directly and indirectly on our biological diversity, disturbing the entire ecosystem that act as our life support system (Corcoran et al, 2010). There are many factors affecting the aforementioned crisis and textile industry effluent is one of major contributor among other industrial wastewater (Verma, Dash, & Bhunia, 2012). Recent literature acknowledged dyeing and finishing processes is the main aforementioned contributor (Khandegar & Saroha, 2013). This paper combines a discussion of 1) textile industry process and their effluent, 2) conventional method of effluent treatment including their advantages and limitation and 3) the updated technology in treating textile industry effluent such as electrocoagulation, Bioflotation and Fixed Bed Biofilm Reactor.

Gensler, a leading design firm globally, spent three years researching and conducting several experiments related to smog and altitude, indoor pollution and living walls, and outdoor green spaces. The study aims to come up with ideas and methods for how architecture and engineering can improve the way we design buildings to address air quality both indoors and outdoors. Fortunately, their results were very insightful. We believe that buildings themselves can become the filters; not just for the users, but also for the whole population.
In this presentation, Kyle presents us the results from three years of research that he and his team conducted to discover how to address air quality both indoors and outdoors through the way we design buildings. Their studies included the efficiency of Living Walls, the effectivity of particulates at various altitudes, and conceptualization of a prototype lung to passively clean air.
Kyle is the Founder and Research Director for Gensler’s “Design for Polluted and Toxic Environments”. His research seeks to use design as a way to problem solve issues related to indoor and outdoor air quality. He has received awards for his work as a designer from AIA, IIDA, US Green Building Council, ID Best of the Year Award, FX International Interior Design Award, Blue Print Design Award, Surface Design Award, and A2asia Award. Additionally, Kyle is a Lecturer at Tongji University’s Design Innovation School & FabO Maker Space, and recently joined forces with the Climate Reality Project, led by former US Vice President Al Gore as a “Global Climate Leader” and Mentor.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

3. WHAT IS AIR POLLUTION ?
Air pollution is the introduction of
chemicals, particulate, or biological material that cause
harm or discomfort to humans or other living
organisms, or damages the natural environment into the
atmosphere.
4. AIR POLLUTION IN DIFFERENT
PROCESSES OF TEXTILE
PROCESS SOURCE POLLUTANT
Energy Production Emissions from boiler Nitrous oxides (Nox) ,sulphur
dioxide (SO2)
drying and curing Emission from high temperature Volatile organic components
ovens (VOCs)
Cotton handling activities Emissions from preparation, carding, Particulates
combing, and fabrics manufacturing
Sizing Emission from using sizing Nitrogen oxides, sulphur oxide,
compound (gums, PVA) carbon monoxide.
Bleaching Emission from using chlorine Chlorine, chlorine dioxide
compound
5. PROCESS SOURCE POLLUTANT

vessels toxic emissions
6. Effect Of Dust
Formation of dust film on every surface
Particles fall into moving parts of machinery
Dirty appearance of product
Effect of Dust - Health Hazards
Cotton dust – biossinosis (lung disease)
Asbestos dust – lung cancer
Wool dust – allergic, sneezing attacks, asthma and
related diseases
7. Pollution Control
Spinning mill
Maintaining m/c parts
Maintaining hardness of rubber cots
Maintaining RH%
Using overhead pneumatic cleaners
Cyclone filters, Cloth filters
Wet processing unit
Electrostatic precipitator
scrubber
oxidizer
8. SCRUBBERS
The Scrubber is one of the most common pollution
control device used by industries.
There are two types of Scrubbers: Wet Scrubbers and
Dry Scrubbers. Mechanism of both the scrubbers is
almost same.
The only difference is in case of Dry Scrubbers End
Product is in solid form while in case of Wet Scrubbers
it is found in liquid form.
9. DRY SCRUBBERS/CYCLONIC SCRUBBERS
•This is a chamber having a plate at the
center which is kept moist by water
injected through the nozzles.
•The dust laden gas is forced in the
chamber with a centrifugal motion as
shown in the figure. The aerosol and
particulate matters are arrested by the
moist plate.
•The clean gas is allowed to pass
through the outlet pipe.
10. The moisture of the plate is then eliminated by some
suitable device and the aerosol and the particulate
matters are collected at the bottom and are removed
through the outlet pipe
11. WET SCRUBBERS/Venturi Scrubbers
•In this device, a venturi meter is
fitted at the bottom of a cylindrical
vessel.
•The dust laden gas and water are
allowed to enter the venturi meter
from the top.
•The gas comes in contact with
water at the throat. The descending
water absorbs the aerosol and
particulate on its way
12. Thus the dirty droplets are formed which are
collected in the collection chamber. The clean gas
rises up and finally it is released in the atmosphere
through the outlet.
