Advanced technologies can significantly improve vehicle fuel efficiency. Direct injection, cylinder deactivation, turbocharging and valve timing improve engine efficiency by 1-8%. Additional transmission gears and continuously variable transmissions improve efficiency by 2-4%. Hybrid technologies like start-stop systems, mild hybrids and full hybrids provide efficiency improvements of 2-35%. Reducing vehicle weight and using low rolling resistance tires each improve efficiency 1-3%. Future technologies may further boost efficiency but have not been widely commercialized.

Diesel generator monitoring is a hardware and software solution for fuel monitoring, monitoring of diesel generator operation parameters and engine diagnostics, receiving electrical data from alternator and remote genset control.
Smart solution for remote monitoring of diesel gensets allows ensuring uninterrupted operation of DG, reducing fuel and operation costs, optimizing maintenance schedule and preventing generator service outage, thus extending genset life cycle.
Diesel generator monitoring field of application
Remote diesel generator monitoring (also called generator telematics) is used for industrial and residential power generators, which are used as main, reserve or auxiliary energy source.
Users of the system:
Owners and operators of generators. Remote supervision of operation and diesel generator management, genset fuel monitoring, getting data for accounting and predictive maintenance.
Servicing companies, engaged in DG maintenance and repairs. Diagnostics of engine and alternator, operating time monitoring, maintenance scheduling, just-in-time servicing and replacement of consumables.
Diesel generator manufacturers. Remote monitoring of genset operation, engine and alternator health monitoring and overall genset diagnostics, gathering failure statistics, planning adjustments to genset design.
The Objective was to Develop a Motorcycle running on alternative fuel, in this case Methane Gas. The Project was a success and we were able to switch between petrol and gas as fuel resulting in a hybrid motorcycle. The project was featured in local and national news channels.

Fabrication of Hybrid Petroelectric VehicleIJERA Editor
In automobile sector, the need for alternative fuel as a replacement of conventional fossil fuel, due to its depletion and amount of emission has given way for new technologies like Fuel cells vehicles, Electric vehicles. Still a lot of advancement has to take place in these technologies for commercialization. The gap between the current fossil fuel technology and zero emission vehicles can be bridged by hybrid technology. Hybrid vehicles are those which can run on two or more powering sources/fuels. Feasibility of this technology is been proved in four wheelers and automobile giants like Toyota, Honda, and Hyundai have launched successful vehicles like Toyota prius, Honda insight etc. This technology maximizes the advantages of the two fuels and minimizes the disadvantages of the same. The best preferred hybrid pair is electric and fossil fuel. This increases the mileage of the vehicle twice the existing and also reduces the emission to half. At present, we like to explore the hybrid technology in the two wheeler sector and its feasibility on road. This paper deals with an attempt to make a hybrid with electric start and petrol run. Further a design of basic hybrid elements like motor, battery, and engine. As on today, hybrid products are one of the best solutions for all pollution hazards at a fairly nominal price. An investment within the means of a common man that guarantees a better environment to live in.
Maximizing the ROI of Fleet ElectrificationFleetCarma
In this webinar we discuss some of the best practices seen from our fleet partners, and cover topics such as:
- How to integrate EVs into your fleet with confidence. Ensure that the vehicles are not only capable of the job, but that they’ll also bring predictable cost savings.
- How to maximize an EV’s workload. The more electric miles that a vehicle travels, the more fuel it will offset, resulting in a greater return.
- How to optimize fleet charging. This allows you to both reduce energy costs and increase the potential workload of your EV fleet.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.

3. Fuel Economy Understanding
Fuel efficiency is a form of thermal efficiency, meaning
the ratio from effort to result of a process that
converts chemical potential energy contained in a carrier
(fuel) into kinetic energy or work.
In the context of transport, fuel economy is the energy
efficiency of a particular vehicle, given as a ratio of
distance traveled per unit of fuel consumed.
It is dependent on engine efficiency, transmission design,
and tire design.
Fuel economy is expressed in miles per gallon (mpg).
3
4. Fuel Economy Understanding…
Improvements to spark ignition engine efficiency have the
potential to improve the fuel economy by up to 25 percent.
Engine efficiency can be improved by:
increasing the thermodynamic cycle efficiency
reducing pumping and throttling loss during normal driving
and
reducing internal friction losses from moving parts.

1. Direct
Injection
Fuel is injected into the intake
port and mixed with air while the
air-fuel mixture is drawn into the
cylinder.
Over 10 years, a vehicle with
direct fuel injection can deliver
fuel savings of $120 to $840, and
lower carbon dioxide (CO2)
emissions by 280 to 1,930 kg.

Turbochargers are compressors
that force additional air into the
engine's cylinders, allowing more
fuel to be injected as well.
Over 10 years, a turbocharger
can save you $240 to $1,680 in
fuel costs and lower your carbon

4. Valve Timing and
Lift Technologies.
Engine valves control the intake of
fresh air and fuel, and the exhaust of
combustion gases.
VVT and lift systems adjust the timing
of the valves to match the operating
conditions of the engine. This
improves efficiency over a wide range
of engine operating speeds.
Over 10 years, a VVT can save you
between $120 to $1,680 and lower
your carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions
by 280 to 3,860 kg.
