The document discusses conventions commonly found in music videos, magazine advertisements, and digipaks. For music videos, it mentions artists performing in public environments and having a dual narrative. For magazine ads, it discusses including the release date, label logo, artist name, and reviews. For digipaks, it outlines using the label logo, track lists, mentioning producers, and including ways to get more information about the artist.
2. Video Conventions
It is common in many R&B music videos that the artist performs the
song in a public environment. We have used this convention in our
video as Connor walks through multiple artificial environments. Here
you can clearly see him walking down a public street.
3. Video Conventions
It is popular within the R&B genre to have the main focus of the song to
be a woman. We have followed this convention here with Connor
acting upset about a previous break up. There is an illustrative
relationship between the lyrics and the visuals throughout the narrative.
4. Video Conventions
Another convention that is often found in R&B videos is having a
dual narrative alternating during the performance. Here we have
used this convention where Connor is upset and performing on the
bridge at the same time. We have used many close ups which
would meet the demands of the record label.
5. Magazine Conventions
A common convention of a magazine advert is the release date. We
have followed this convention by adding a release date in bold on
the bottom of the page.
6. Magazine Conventions
Another convention normally on a magazine advert is the record
label logo. We have included this convention on the bottom right of
our magazine advert.
7. Magazine Conventions
Another magazine convention normally followed is the name of
the album and artist. Here we have used both as a main focal
point on the advert. We have put it on the very top of the advert.
We have layered the words to make it visually appealing to the
viewer.
8. Magazine Conventions
We have added a rating/review to the advert to firstly make it look
more appealing and secondly to give readers an idea of how good
the album is. Many adverts follow this convention as it could help to
sell more copies of the album.
9. Digi-Pak Conventions
One Convention used commonly
by digipaks is the use of the record
label logo. We have used this on
one of the images in the digipak. It
is discreet but still well noticeable. It
isn’t normally a convention used
for style, its used to advertise the
label.
10. Digi-Pak Conventions
Another convention
often used on
digipaks is the track
list. We have used
this convention and
challenged it by
including a DVD and
DVD track list. This is
obviously a common
part if digipaks as
almost every
potential customer
wants to know which
tracks are featured.
11. Digi-Pak Conventions
Here we have used 2 conventions often found on a digipak.
Firstly, have given the producers a mention on the back of
the pack. Secondly, we have included other ways of
gathering more information about Craig David. These are
common conventions as the music companies want as much
coverage as possible to promote not only themselves but the
artist too.
