In what ways does your media
product use, develop or challenge
forms and conventions of real
media products?
Music video is one of the most common advertising tool
which is currently use in order to promote artist, album and
the single. We can see that every artist has music videos for
their leading tracks and use them for numerous of
promotional purposes.
One of the key function is to illustrate the image of the artist
through the music video. As Andrew Goodwin said,
producers are able to illustrate an artist in a way to suit
certain target groups and make the artist appeal to them.
This is one of the most common convention which is
present in almost every music video out there at the
moment.
This also appear in my music video. the singer illustrates
average yet effective representation of person who we are
most likely to appear in the indie band music video. Also,
the usage of white back drop implies to simplicity, freshness
and modern age of my music video.
We can see numerous of lip-syncing shots which are fairly
common nowadays in different music videos.
I decided to use editing for my advantage in construction
process on my music video. I played with speed of my
footages in order to make them more interesting and
dynamic. Thanks to that, I managed to establish something
different than standard music video. We can see different
videos which are edited with use of fast forward, backward,
speed up or down. However, they are not as popular. I think
I developed and challenged a form of a classical
conventions in the music video.
CD Digipack is one of the most important part of every
album. it is constructed from four different panels made out
of the same dimensions. Each of these panels has different
purpose. One of them is dedicated for the cover, one for the
track list, and another two for the actual CD and other
information.
The construction of a digipack is usually the same in case of
every album. There are usual conventions on place such as
band/artist name, album name, record label etc. These are in
the usual locations on the digipack. I also used these
conventions in my digipack therefore, it look professional
and realistic at the same time.
My CD digipack use yellow colour in order to highlight the
name of the band and lyrics from their top singles. This is
developing and challenge a conventions which are currently
present in the real media productions. I personally believe it
makes the digipack look significantly better than without it.
I think it highlights the originality and differentiate my
digipack from others.
Music Magazine Advertisement is one of the most common
advertising tool which purpose is to promote the artist and
the album in the magazines. Usually, we can find the
advertisements like this in different music magazines. It
varies depending on the style of music and target audience
of the artist. MMA have significant impact on the marketing
activities especially when artist is releasing new album.

magazine reviews, lyrics,

new album etc. Those
parts play a significant
impact on the success of
the advertisement.
Therefore, it is very
important to make sure
that those conventions are
present in order to get as
much of attention as
possible.
In my Music Magazine Advertisement, I've used numerous
of classical conventions which are being used in real media
productions. I placed a different magazines star reviews for
this album. In addition to that, I implied different titles,
record label and picture of my main artist (the same as on
the album cover) in order to maintain classical conventions
which re present in different productions. This made my
MMA look professional and advanced. Also, I highlighted
some words with yellow in order to create a link with my
digipack. This partially challenge forms and conventions
however, once again i believe it made my work more
interesting and differentiated from others.
Overall, my overall product use, develop and challenge
forms and conventions or real media products in many ways
throughout different products. I think I have used and
developed them well in order to achieve good quality result
on the end. Music video, CD Digipack and Music Magazine
Advertisement use different form of conventions which
makes it look professional and suitable for the selected
product!
