The purpose of this experiment was to mix Alka Seltzer with Hydrochloric acid in order to
analyze Sodium Bicarbonate as an active ingredient in the Alka Seltzer. The mixture will contain
hydrochloric acid to only see the composition of Sodium Bicarbonate in the tablet once it reacts.
The amount that reacted allowed us to determine how much of it is present in the tablet. The
amount of sodium bicarbonate will be measure by using the ideal gas lawPV=nRT. The experiment
will be conducted in the lab, therefore we are going to use room temperature which ranges from 15
to 26 degrees celsius. At room temperature pressure ranges from 12.8 to 25.0 millimeters mercury
according to its corresponding room temperature.In the ideal gasequation R is 0.08206latm/mol k
which is a constant. Once we have those values we can calculates the number of moles that
reacted in the mixture by solving for the missing value. With the number of moles we are able to
find the mass in grams which is what will potentially tell us the composition of Sodium
Bicarbonate in a tablet of Alka Seltzer.
Results: There were three different runs in order to have comparable data and to increase the
validity of the experiment. The first run gave 39% of Sodium Bicarbonate. The second run gave
34% of Sodium Bicarbonate while the third one gave 39%, which is the same as the first run. The
average percentage was 37% which is much lower than the manufacturer s percentage of 59%. The
percent error came out to be 37%.
Discussion: The manufacturer results shows that Alka Seltzer has 1.9 grams per tablet. In the
experiment the results are too small compared to the number that is given by the label. In the first
run only .0588 grams reacted to the acid. That suggest that the tablet only contains 0.588 grams of
sodium bicarbonate which is very different from the manufacturers. The second run gave an even
smaller number of gram. In terms of moles only .0007 reacted in the first and third run and only
.0006 in the second run. There are many factor that could had alter the amount of moles that reacted
to the acid which affected the result in showing that there is a smaller composition of sodium

Second I think that people weren t necessarily sure that what they saw was a real event. Sure, it
clearly happened, but the events seemed fictional because of their magnitude. I know that even
though I saw footage of the attacks, it still seems surreal. The magnitude of the attack makes it
seem like something that no one would expect to actually happen to us. Overall I think that those
who did not turn off their cameras did something positive because we would not see so much about

Employers are able to make money because production is fast and cheap for them. The Pew
Hispanic Center concluded in 2001 classified an estimated 5.3 million workers in the U.S. as
unauthorized workers in the labor force. These jobs include 700,000 restaurant workers, 250,000
household workers, and 620,000 construction workers (Murphy). This is a whole lot of cheap
labor, and without it the U.S. would suffer. If 620,000 construction workers were gone, home
improvement projects across the nation would quickly be hard to find. With a large number of
these immigrants also earning wages working on farms, Americans would find much of their
produce rotting in fields due to the lack of workers (Murphy 2). The positive effect of these
immigrants on the nation s labor force is well supported by Americans; however, the opinion of
those rejecting these workers is accepted and taken into account as well. The main argument of
Americans rejecting the idea of immigration is supported by the rising unemployment rate in
America. There are hundreds of American natives who are unemployed. Harvard sociologist,
Christopher Jencks, states, The reason that Americans will not take jobs washing dishes, cleaning
hotel rooms, mowing lawns, and picking fruit is because immigrant labor has driven the wages
down (Taylor). Not only are the wages being driven down, but the working conditions as well.
