This document lists publications in the ACI library at San Jose State University. There are over 260 publications, primarily referred to as "SP" publications which are symposium proceedings. The publications cover a wide range of topics related to concrete including inspection, design, specifications, admixtures, cracking, reinforcement, and more. Many publications are editions of the ACI manual or specifications that have been revised over time.

The compressive strength, flexural strength, and split tensile strength of Reactive Powder concrete are all
investigated in this study (RPC). The lack of ductility in ordinary concrete is considered a key concern in this
research. RPC is being explored as a solution for the aforementioned challenge as the building industry's
technology advances. Cement, sand, water, admixture, and superplasticizer are all included in the RPC. The
reactive powder concrete mixture is made by changing the percentages of super plasticizer (2%, 3% and 4%),
silica fumes (10%, 20%, and 30%), while maintaining the dose of quartz powder constant. At the outset of this
study, compressive strength, flexural strength, and split tensile strength targets of 140-160Mpa, 20-30Mpa, and
15-20Mpa were set. However, due to a change in material qualities that were locally accessible and of low
quality, the results produced after the investigation were unsatisfactory to get the findings, the RPC was mixed,
cast, cured, and tested in the concrete laboratory using three different mix proportions.
150mmX150mmX150mm cube, 500mmX100mmX100mm beam, and 150mm diameter and 300mm height
cylinder are all made of fresh concrete. The casted RPC is then cured in a water tank at room temperature for 7,
14, and 28 days before being oven dried for 24 hours at 60 degrees Celsius. The final results were documented
and discussed, as well as conclusions and recommendations based on the findings.
Comparison of Pre-Engineered Building and Conventional Steel Truss BuildingRoshni Ramakrishnan
Pre- Engineered buildings are those which are engineered/manufactured at factories and assembled at site.Built-up,hot rolled and cold formed sections are used in such buildings and the sections that are used in such buildings differ along length as the section size is dependent on the bending moment profile.Past research has shown that for large spans,a reduction of 20%-30% in steel quantity and also 30%-50% saving in time of project occur due to faster delivery and quicker site erection.
TINCE2016 - Steel Concrete Modules in Civil Work design of future Nuclear Pow...Gildas POTIN
Design of reinforced concrete structures ongoing nuclear power plant projects frequently faces issues related to more stringent design codes requirements that make necessary to take into account at design stage severe accident design loads which, in turn, lead to very large steel reinforcement demand. Subsequently design of these RC structures become very complex and, at construction stage, constructability often raises problems linked to actual installation of large densities of rebars which becomes in itself a complex task, expensive and time consuming. As a consequence, a trend in nuclear civil work design is emerging which consists in substituting, when very dense steel reinforcement ratios are expected from plain steel reinforcement bars design, typical reinforced concrete structural elements by Steel Concrete (SC) structures.
We will successively develop in this paper the technical issues that can arises when using this design process, try and identify the advantages and possible drawbacks that could be linked when using such Steel Concrete modules in project where the overall design is based on Euronorms.
Finally will be quickly presented computational methodologies which may be used for their design and describe some examples of structures for which this construction approach has been retained.
Optimization of Compressive Strength of Concrete Made with Partial Replacemen...ijtsrd
This research work is aimed at using Scheffe’s Third Degree Model for six component mixtures, Scheffe’s 6,3 to optimize the compressive strength of concrete made through partial replacement of 60 percent of cement with 30 percent of Cassava Peel Ash CPA and 30 percent of Rice Husk Ash RHA . Before now, Nwachukwu and others 2022i has carried out research on the subject matter based on the Scheffe’s second degree model. Due to the upper hand that the third degree has over the second degree in terms of improved compressive strength, this recent work has become very essential. Through the use of Scheffe’s Simplex optimization method, the compressive strengths of the present work based on the third degree model were obtained for 112 different mix proportions. Control experiments were also carried out, and the compressive strengths evaluated. The adequacy of the third degree model was confirmed through the use of the Student’s t test statistics. The highest compressive strength was obtained as 43.75 MPa which is slightly higher than the maximum value obtained by Nwachukwu and others 2022i based on the second degree model. Again, the maximum value is higher than the minimum value specified by the American Concrete Institute ACI , as 20 MPa and also the minimum value specified by ASTM C 39 or ASTM C 469, as 30.75 for good concrete. Thus, the compressive strength value can sustain construction of light weight structures such as construction of Walkways, Pavement slabs etc and some heavy weight structures such as Bridges, Airports etc at the best possible economic and safety advantages. A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
