Blue Ecosystem in Indonesia
Indonesia has 70% of the world's carbon credits
originating from forests, mangroves, peatlands &
seagrass.
Indonesia's peatlands covering an area of 7.5 million ha (50 m depth), have a carbon storage value of 55 Gigatonnes, equivalent to 37%
of the carbon storage in tropical peatlands throughout the world. Indonesia also has 125.9 million ha of tropical rainforest which has a
carbon storage value of 200 tons of carbon/ha, equivalent to 25.18 Gigatonnes in Indonesia.

Challenges of Blue Ecosystem in Indonesia
VARIOUS LEGAL REGIMES
● Efforts to protect & manage blue carbon ecosystems
in Indonesia are regulated in various legal regimes
(forestry, coastal and marine regimes,
environmental protection and management, spatial
planning, and local government).
● Approximately 49% of the mangrove area is
in conservation and protected forest areas.
● Some other mangrove areas are in social
forestry areas.
● about 3% of the mangrove area is
included in the marine conservation
area.
● 34% of all seagrass beds are also
included in marine conservation areas
● Areas of mangroves and seagrasses that
are not included in protection
instruments threatened by
anthropogenic pressure.
● In order for the blue carbon ecosystem
not to be converted, it must be
recognized as critical natural capital.
BUREAUCRATIC RIVALRY
● The blue carbon ecosystem is carried out at
various levels of government and administrative
jurisdictions and owned by various ministries/
institutions, this creates the potential for
bureaucratic rivalry.

§ IPB menghibahkan aplikasi pendukung pemantauan kinerja riil di lapangan
unit karbon yg diperjualbelikan di Bursa Efek:
(1)Fire Risk System untuk memprediksi kebakaran 6 bulan sebelumnya
(2)Web GIS Near Real Time Land Use Change (pemantau perubahan
tutupan lahan hutan, sawit, sawah, kopi, dan kakao per 8 hari (unit desa)
§ Bursa Efek Karbon perlu diperkuat dengan data spasial Nilai Jual Objek
Karbon (NJOK) sebagai standar harga minimal unit carbon guna melindungi
jatuhnya harga akibat ulah spekulan.
§ Tidak hanya volume serapan atau simpanan karbon yang dipertimbangkan,
tetapi juga kualitas biodiversitas dan manfaat sosial budaya, sesuai dengan
prinsip keadilan iklim (climate justice).
