2. INTRODUCTION
 The function of a voltage regulator is to
provide a stable dc voltage for powering other
electronic circuits.
 A voltage regulator should be capable of
providing substantial output current
 Voltage regulators are classified as ; series
regulator, switching regulator.

3. SERIES REGULATOR
Series regulator use a power transistor connected in series between the unregulated
dc input and the load1
The output voltage is controlled by the continuous voltage drop taking place
across the series pass transistor.2
The transistor conduct in the active or linear region , these regulator are also
called linear regulators.3
Linear regulators may have fixed or variable output voltage and could be positive

 78xx series are three terminal ,positive fixed voltage regulators.
 There are seven output voltge options available such as 5,6,8,12,15,18,and 24v
.in 78xx ,the last two numbers (xxx) indicate the output voltage.
 There are also available 79xx series of fixed output ,negative voltage regulators
which are complements to the 78xx series devices .
