This document discusses target audiences for films, specifically horror film subgenres. It identifies the target audiences for supernatural horror, comedy horror, and madness/paranoia films as primarily males and females aged 15-40 from middle and working class backgrounds. Research was conducted through interviews that found people who enjoy supernatural horror expect jump scares, tension building, and original storylines, while feedback on social media also cited occult themes and curses. The key takeaway is that an effective supernatural horror film requires good scares, visual effects, and an engaging plot.
After researching how film are aimed at different audiences, I considered what I have learn and have applied this to my own production. Here I have a chosen my film's target audience.
2. Target Audience
• You can define a target audience by their age,
gender and class.
• People of different ages, class and genders will
prefer different things so it is important to choose
the right target audience for your film.
3. Why is it important for a film to have a target audience?
• It is important for a film to have a target Audience
because it allows them to focus on a group of people.
• This makes it easy for the directors and producers to
create a film suitable for this particular group of people.
5. Target Audience for Supernatural Horror
• A supernatural horror would focus on:
• Male and Female adults aged 15 to 40 in their working
and middle class.
• This is their target audience as their films are
supposed to be frightening and makes the audience
think it could happen to them.
6. Target Audience for Comedy-Horror
• Comedy Horror films would focus on Male + Female aged 15-
40 preferably in the middle class.
• Comedy horror films would rely on gore and dark/black
humour.
• Comedy Horror films focus on this target audience they want
to target a big group of people who would find the film funny
and dark at the same time.
7. Target Audience for Madness + Paranoia
• When creating a horror film based around Madness and
paranoia, the crew would focus on making their film suitable for
18-35 males in the working/middle class.
• They chose this target audience as films focussing on madness
and paranoia will be quite dark and twisted and therefore
unsuitable for teenagers under 18 years of age.
