2. What are Distributors?
Film distributors are really important. They are
responsible for getting your film out into the public
and into the media. Without them you would
struggle to get your film noticed, as you wouldn’t
have the resources to get it out. This is representative
of all film studios, poor to rich, indie to Hollywood,
film distributors are so important because they have
the contacts and the knowledge to get your film right
into the public eye.
3. Notable Horror Distributors
Some distributors that have released Madness and
Paranoia films include:
Carolco Pictures Inc. (Jacob’s ladder),
Warner Bros (The Shining),
Paramount Pictures (Shutter Island),
Dark Castle Studios (Orphan).
Other notable horror distributors are:
Lionsgate (Hostel),
Rogue Pictures (Strangers, The Last House on the Left).
4. Our Choices
Our choice for the distributor of our film is Warner Bros
as they distributed a very highly-rated film called ‘The
Shining’ which achieved review scores such as 8.5/10
(IMDB) and 92% (Rotten Tomatoes).
It ultimately came down to Warner Bros, Rogue Pictures,
and Lionsgate as we felt that they had the most
experience of releasing big horror films. Also, Carolco
Pictures Inc. and Paramount Pictures were close to being
our choices but the budget used for ‘The Shining’ was a
lot cheaper and that helped us choose Warner Bros as it
showed they could get cheaper films out just as well as
bigger films, and that is perfect for our film.
