Who is your film aimed at and why?
Having researched the target audience for my genre using the UK Film Council audience
data, I know the demographics of the target audience of my film. The following information is from
the UK Film Council audience data, showing my genres target audience is:

It also states that the diverse audiences which might enjoy a Fantasy/Thriller films are
Black African/Caribbean and Eastern Europeans. Or simply to say, both whiteand black people will
enjoy this film, other than Black African/Caribbean and Eastern Europeans. However, there
wouldn’t be a strong ethnicitybias because UK Film Council Data suggests every ethnicitywill like
it in a way.
Why have you chosen this audience?
I chose this audience because after my target audience Interview with Mr. Bunney and Mr.
Johnson, I noticed that men over 35 watch fantasy/thrillers because it makes them feel younger and
provides an element of escapism, I also learned that the thrill aspect them keeps them watching
these types of films. From the interview with Mr. Bunney, I also learned older men enjoy watching
fantasy films with young children.
Initially, I intended on targeting the a younger target audience because of the large
population of young people in the audience of films such as Ella Enchanted, Mortal Instruments,
Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and Tomorrowland. That is why I chose a female to play the
antagonists, because I wanted to appeal to females under 35. I noticed that females under 35 are the
least likely to enjoy a fantasy/thriller film, instead they are more interested in comedy films. I was
still able to use a female as the antagonist because my secondary audience are females over 35. I

also intentionally made the antagonist in the C2/C1 social class so both my primary and secondary
audience can relate.
What classification did you give your film?
I gave the film the classification certificate 12 because it has very few scenes which will be
sensitive to younger viewers. There is littleviolence, mild language, no sexual scenes (only mild
references to sex and nudity), no drug use and no offensive comments. However, because it is a
fantasy film it contains imitable behaviour, and there are few scenes of violence but magical,
therefore it cannot be imitated in real life.
This rating does not mean only children around age 12 can enjoy it, it means it is suitable
for those over 12, therefore appealing to a wider audience. This keeps both younger and older
audiences wanting to watch my film. It will also be a good film for families and households which
have children aged 12 and over.
Does it target a mainstream or niche audience?
The film is a thriller as well as a fantasy film, so the following are percentages of audiences who
enjoy both thriller and fantasy enjoy watching a thriller.

the general public having 26% of ratings, and the 4th most enjoyable genre by the public, having
53%, showing it has a mainstream audience. Although fantasy has only 9% of the public having it as
a favourite film, and being the 9th most enjoyable film genre by the public by 37%, making it seem
as if it is a more of a niche audience.
Overall, my hybrid genre, a fantasy/thriller, must have a mainstream audience, attracting a mix of
both audiences enjoying the elements of both surprise and magic.
Why would they want to see your film?
− It is a good film to watch with the family. I noticed from my Target Audience Member
Profile that fantasy films are good to watch with the family, especially those with children.
− It a gives our target audience a sense of escapism. Learned from both my Target Audience
Member Profile and my Target Audience Interviews, adults use the fantasy/thrillers for a
sense of escapism from the real world. My film brings the antagonist from the real world
into a mystical wonderland, so it will be good for our older audience to use it to feel as if
they too are moving from the real world into a mystical wonderland.

− The use of a cute young girl as the antagonist will invite those whose ‘weakness’ are
children. Society is becoming more interested in children as more people are becoming
more involved in the lives of young people.
In conclusion, according to the various research of my target audience, the audience for my
media product would be males over 35, primarily, and females over 35 secondarily.
However, young girls would also watch this film, as the audience of similar films to mine
(such as Cinderella) consisted of young girls. As my research entails, my genre would be
attracted by a mainstream audience.
