Mcdonaldization of Olympic s Case
RosarioMGMT110 Assessment 3 McDonaldization of Olympic s case I m going to analyse this
case because I want to understand how this process of McDonaldization is affecting the Olympic
games in his traditions and who s deciding what happens on the competitions in considerations of
scheduling times and events broadcasting. Why is it so important for NBC to put the events in
prime time for the United States ? And how can the will of one big company decide over many
others entities that are involved in the Olympics ? But first a brief description of what
McDonaldization is: Process of rationalization, albiet taken to extreme levels. Rationalization is a
sociological term that simply means the substitution of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main issue that we find in the managing choice of the IOC is the hegemony of power
enforced by the main investors. Some people may rile against the commercialization or
Americanization of the Olympics but figures show that the dollars from the US is critical for
the sustenance of the Olympic movement. Besides TV, the IOC s another major stream of
income is private partnership. ( D.Jones 2012) On the NBC side, it was a very smart move that
took place a while ago during the cold war, when USA used the Olympics to prove the
supremacy over the USSR. It s not only about broadcasting the games in their own country, but
also getting the visibility globally as the main protagonists of the global event. All this income
from the US for the committee is vital to keep the games happening, the big problem now days
is that the structure of the Olympics is entirely based on big companies paying the bills for the
massive costs that have to be covered to organize, manage and built facilities and events for the
games. So from a IOC s managing perspective the choice of keeping happy major investors
makes sense and it wouldn t be so criticized if it was a little less against the Olympic spirit.
Athletes being forced to race at early morning hours by McDonald s, Coca Cola s etc ads is not
really what the spirit of the event should be. But to make everything happen, someone has to pay
for everything that we see during races, competition, games and ceremonies. The

On Collective Memory, By Maurice Halbwach
The central theme of Maurice halbwach in his book On Collective memory is the relationship
between memory and the society. This book constitutes nature, memories of individuals, social
class and religion. Not only is the nature of collective memory important but also the linguistic
part of the collectivity is also looked upon. Halbwach is of the view that memory is not static, it is
a dynamic one. It is because memory is continuously reconstructed and one of the medium is
through language with which they convey. Within the structure of family, class and religion there
could be many frameworks of memory working simultaneously. From the works of scholars like
Emile Durkheim and Henri Bergson, Maurice halbwach borrowed some ideas. Halbwach was...

His friends used to talk about football for which halbwach did not have any interest because he
found it different from the one he knows and mane no sense to him. He found it hard to follow

made little sense to his friends and vice versa. As it was difficult for him go along with people
from other communities and places, he was excluded from his friends collective memory and
their memory from Halbwachs s. He gives another example where after the disintegration of
Soviet Union the history books showed the biases as people who were killed then were now
termed as heroes. Thus collective real memory was shedding and reconstruction of new memories
was taking place. The whole soviet history had to be re written of the last 70 years. The books also
demolished the old and real memories and new generations are learning the reconstructed

Similarities Between Hindu And Zoroastrianism
The historical difference starts when a group named Aryan separates into two where one moves to
India and the other moves to Iran. To date it is believed that Zoroastrianism came as a child
religion of Rigvedic which is a more ancient religion. It was practiced among some Aryans. This
can then explain some of the differences and similarities between Hindu and Zoroastrianism. The
differences are as a result of them wanting to make the child religiondistinct from the mother
religion. Zoroastrianism was commonly practiced in Iran and ended up being the most ancient
monotheistic religion with a huge following. Those who went to India were met with different
climatic conditions and hence had to change their lifestyle. This would include their religious
beliefs but they kept some of the Vedic beliefs. For those in Iran most of the Vedic practices were
lost and only few of them were left of which were in the Zoroastrian religion. Zoroastrianism was a
monotheistic and messianic which most teachings revolved round prophet Zoroaster, this would
lead to very few similarities between this religion and Hinduism. Vedic tradition which was a
common factor was slowly eliminated in the Zoroastrian by use of the teachings and in the end
severing any connections between the two. The differences between the Vedic and the Zoroastrian
religion are more of a coincidence and less of an intent. The former Vedic religion that existed
disappeared widely on the introduction

Osmosis Lab Report Essay
Natasha Tenen
Lab: Thursday (3 6 pm) OSMOSIS LAB REPORT
INTRODUCTION
Osmosis is a special type of diffusion where water molecules move down a concentration gradient
across a cell membrane. The solute (dissolved substance) concentration affects the rate of osmosis
causing it either to speed the process up or slow it down. Based on this, how does different
concentrations of sucrose affect the rate of osmosis? If sucrose concentration increases in the
selectivity permeable baggies, then the rate of osmosis will increase.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
The start of the experiment consisted of filling up four beakers with de ionized water to 150 ml.
After the beakers were filled to the appropriate amounts they were then labeled with the ... Show

100% for 0.0m, 106% for 0.25m, 114% for 0.5 m, and 117% for 0.75m. Group 4 received 100% for
0.0m, 106% for 0.25m, 113% for 0.5m, and 116% for 0.75m. Group 5 received 98% for 0.0m,
105% for 0.25m, 110% for 0.5m, and 115% for 0.75m. Group 6 received 104% for 0.0m, 108% for
0.25m, 111% for 0.5m, and 104% for 0.75m. The trend line that occurred for the rate of osmosis
was an upward increase as the solute concentration increased.
DISCUSSION
The class data that was received supported the group members hypothesis that the rate of osmosis
will increase if the sucrose concentration increases as well. The trend line that was received from
the data also supported the hypothesis because it increased as the sucrose concentration increased.
The initial weight gain percents were all different because all of the groups sugar concentrations
were not completely identical. The method used wasn t entirely accurate because there could ve
been some flaws such as some bags weren t secured enough and might have leaked sucrose into
the de ionized water causing the results to be different. The bags might have not been washed
thoroughly which could have ultimately allowed sucrose into the de ionized water. The results
could have been more accurate if the baggies were left in the

How Does Racism Affect Amir s Life
Amir was born in 1963 in Kabul, Afghanistan. Amir grew up in a wealthy family. He lived with
his father Baba , and two servants: Ali and his son Hassan. At this time in Afghani history, there
was a lot of racism. Hassan and his father are Hazaras, which is an ethnic minority in Afghanistan
that was greatly discriminated against. Amir was not of this group. However, the racism that they
experienced affected both of their lives forever. The life of Amir began to change in 1973. This
was the year that the King of Afghanistan, Mohammad Zahir Shah, was overthrown (The Editors of
Encyclopaedia Britannica). A period of anarchy ensued during this time. The kingdom was

Sovereignty In Canada
Despite recent International opportunism, Canada lays claim to the region through historic
documents and acts of sovereignty. Canada s claim to the area began in 1670. When King
Charles II of England granted Rupert s land in a charter to the Hudson s Bay Company at the
height of the fur trading era. This charter covered a large area around Hudson s Bay, including the
northern expanse above the bay (Rose 4). In 1880, Britain granted the new dominion of Canadathe
Arctic Archipelago (Rose 5). Including 94 arctic islands and all Islands adjacent to any such
territories discovered or not (Bonikowski). To secure Canadian sovereignty, Canada sent explorers
Joseph ElzГ©ar Bernier and Vilhjalmur Stefansson to leave plaques and flags on several islands.

(Bonikowski). While many may stress the vagueness of historic documents and dismiss acts of

Mahatma Gandhi vs. Mao Essay
Gandhi vs. Mao
Mao and Gandhi became key leaders in each of their countries, India and China. Although they both
wanted very similar things to happen to their countries, they used very different tactics. The main
points in their rules where economical, political and social. And all points affected their people in
many ways.
First, to make each of their countries stronger economically Ghandi and Mao changed laws and
broke rules. During the British rule in India there was a salt tax, which made it very hard for the
people of china to buy salt, but it was illegal for them to make their own salt. Because Ghandi did
not think this tax was righteous, on. In 1930, March 12th, he and eighty other people walked in the

Mao used violence and killed many of the landlords so that the people of the countryside could
become more powerful economically, but Gandhi used peaceful protests and never wanted to use
violence or war against the British. (China in Revolution Video Dr. Sue Williams, China Guidance
Packet), (Gandhi the film), (China Guidance Packet), (India Guidance Packet). These are my
resources.
Second, to make each of their countries stronger politically, Ghandi and Mao generally treated
the people equally, and changed key parts of the old ways which gained each of them political
support. Gandhi, held peaceful protests, such as passbook burnings that he first created in South
Africa. Mao on the other hand, known for not being a great speaker reached out and gained
support by the things he did. He, gave his people better education, gave woman more rights, by
stopping the foot binding. Took out Confucianism and said that people could marry for love not
because the man wanted to marry a women or a marriage being arranged. Although they used
theses tactics in similar ways they were different in the ways that they lived. For example Mao gave
women rights, ironically however kept many young girls with him at home and slept with them,
and a more common phrase for the things that he did where his Friday night dances. Gandhi on the
other hand became celibate, which means that he would not have

Darkness And Darkness In Joseph Conrad s Heart Of Darkness
He Spelled Those Around Him Without Realizing That He Himself Had Been Spelled
Throughout Conrad s Heart of Darkness, he proves that all humans ultimately have some form of
dark within their soul. Even through the title one can see the irony between the heart, showing light
and humanity, and the darkness, displaying evil and immoral. The protagonist, Marlow, listens to
other members of the company illustrate Kurtz as both a universal genius (Conrad 33) and as a man
with enough power to frighten the manager (Conrad 37). Throughout the novel Kurtz symbolizes
the key theme of darkness and savagery, contributing to the overarching purpose of conveying
Africa s true environment and impact on humans.
For the majority of the novel, Marlow is yet to meet the mysterious Kurtz. The different, opposing
perspectives of Kurtz s persona cause Marlow to wonder uncontrollably and crave the presence of
the man himself. Marlow practically hears Kurtz even before meeting him: The man presented
himself as a voice... the gift of expression, the bewildering, the illuminating, the most exalted and
the most contemptible, the pulsating stream of light, or the deceitful flow from the heart of an
impenetrable darkness (Conrad 57). Kurtz displays positive qualities while also negative ones; he
has the ability to take control of Marlow s mind without even meeting the former. Marlow
expresses Kurtz as having many possible talents. He has the gift of bewildering, or scaring others

Handicap Each to His Ability
Kurt Vonnegut paints a picture of American society 120 years past 1961. Society has made a
gradual change, but it is a drastic one nonetheless. After nearly two hundred amendments to the
constitution, everyone is supposed to be equal in every way. Nobody was smarter than anybody
else. Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was stronger or quicker than
anybody else. (232 Vonnegut). In this landscape Vonnegut shows that people will never be
completely equal, and trying to force equality through controlling individuals will only create a
new class system. In the sixties, as today, equality was a frequent topic of debate. The Civil Rights
movement was rapidly gaining support, as was equal pay for women, protections of voting... Show

somebody just went out and brought one home from the petstore.
Tigers, lions, and pythons are harmful to our environment and could badly hurt us. They could

The Religous Unaffiliated in the Article, “Nones on the Rise
We all know that religion is an organized system regarding the spiritual or supernatural along with
various practices that give numerous individuals a sense of purpose in the world and allows these
individuals to understand things beyond their reach. However, while reading the articles from
Nones on the Rise, it is evident that there is an increase in the number of individuals who claim
unaffiliation to any religionin the United States. Nones gives the facts and figures of the Americans
who do not place themselves in any religious category, with an approximate one in five of the
public claiming no affiliation. But there are some individuals who denote themselves as spiritual
or religious in some way. The entire article is an intriguing one because it breaks everything
down, from what it means to be unaffiliated religiously to the composition of the unaffiliated, the
demographics of the unaffiliated and theories as to why there is an increase in the numbers of the
years. It is interesting to see how people view themselves when it comes to their beliefs. The
article discusses a couple of reasons behind the increase of unaffiliated Americans. It is thought
that the growth is a result of newer generations replacing older generations. It is evident that elders
are more likely to proclaim religion than young adults. This is not the only factor. In addition to the
general replacement, the decrease of religious commitment among some of the individuals is also

Pop Art Unit Analysis
Out of the two units that we completed, the first unit (The Pop Art Unit) was noticably a lot
more split up than the second Unit. There wasn t necessarily any more work to do, it was just
split up into different tasks. Our very primary task was set to us over Summer 2015 as an
introduction to GCSE Art and Design. We were asked to do some research on Pop Art

what we had learnt in our books, this could include different Pop Art artists, the introduction to
Pop Art and attempts at recreating some of the art works. In my opinion this was a very

we all know, as short lived as his carrear was, it was truly an iconic one. With this task I decided
to make a 3D piece in order to play around with different mediums and make it a part of my full
piece which was mostl 2D. Overall, out of the tasks that I completed for this Unit this was not
one of my favourite works seeing as I was not happy with the way James face turned out as it did
not look enough like the person I was trying to illustrate. I do not think that during this Unit I

Coup In Chile Essay
The coup in Chile on September 11, 1973 was a military action carried out by the Armed Forces of
Chile formed by the Navy, Air Force and Army together with Carabineros de Chile to overthrow the
socialist president Salvador Allende and the Popular Unity government.
Salvador Allende took office in 1970 as President of Chile, the first Marxist politician in the world
who came to power through general elections in a state of Derecho. For His government, marking
reformist, was characterized by a growing polarization society and politics in a tough economic
crisis that led to a strong social upheaval.
The ability to execute a coup against the Allende government existed even before his election. The

On October 19, 1970, a group of men equipped with tear gas grenades attempted to kidnap
Schneider off an official dinner. The attempt failed because the General left the room in his
private car and not in the official vehicle provided by the men of Viaux. The second attempted
abduction took place at 08:00 on October 22, 1970, when the official car of Schneider was
blocked by four vehicles at the corner of Avenida AmГ©rico Vespucio with Martin de Zamora
(Las Condes) and a group youth surrounded the General, with hammers smashing the rear
windows and rear side door. Realizing that Schneider took his weapon to repel the action, the
kidnappers shot him, impacting it with three bullets, then fled. Cape driver, Leopoldo Mauna
Morales, seeing bleeding the commander in chief, took him to the Military Hospital. Because of
its critical condition, the general suffered cardiac arrest and died at 07:50 of October 25, 1970,
Schneider Doctrine was a principle of adherence to constitutional order, respect for the citizens will
and nonintervention in policy by the Chilean Army. He embodied by the Chilean general, allowed
the election of Salvador Allende as president of Chile, and was the main ideological obstacle to
military coup against him.

The Use of Electroconvulsive Therapy in Patients with...
The Use of Electroconvulsive Therapy in Patients with Severe Depression or Schizophrenia In
surveys, individuals with both a history of severe depression and a history of physical trauma due
to an accident ranked the pain of mental illness as much worse than that of physical trauma (Isaac
5). Mental illnesses cause immense suffering and potentially even death; in the year 2000, the
suicide rate of patients suffering from depression was estimated at fifteen percent. This is a
testament to the fact that mental illnesses such as depression and schizophrenia are serious issues,
and those suffering from them deserve the most effective treatment available. Many psychiatrists
turn to anti depressants and talk therapy in attempts to heal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The origin of these skeptical and fearful preconceptions is the imperfect history of the practice. The
most primitive forms of electroconvulsive therapy began in the 1930s, with the injection of various
chemicals into mental health patients, inducing seizures. The first published reports of such
treatments came from Ladislas Meduna, a Hungarian neuropsychiatrist whose experiments sparked
the interest of clinicians worldwide (Fink, Electroconvulsive 1). The first account of actual
electroconvulsive therapy was in 1938 in Italy; neurologist Ugo Cerletti, and his assistant Lucio
Bini, applied electrodes on both temples of the patient, and passed electricity through the brain,
causing the patient to have a seizure (Fink, Electroconvulsive 2). The earliest ECT procedures were
administered without anesthesia or muscle relaxants, and the seizures it induced were brutal, often
resulting in fractures and severe memory loss. However, the success of this experimentation
outweighed the trepidation it created, and the use of ECT progressed, using Cerletti s studies as a
foundation and orienting around the use of electric currents instead of chemicals. Despite its
growing popularity and usage, through the 1950s, the procedure was administered recklessly, still
lacking the use of anesthetics or muscle relaxants, and intensifying negative effects with
implementation of a higher, more dangerous level of electrical current (Electroconvulsive Mayo 4

Special Considerations for Clients of Islamic Faith
When given this assignment, I was trying to think of a special population that I wanted to learn
more about. Many different special populations came to mind. However, there is one in particular
that I felt I knew very little about and began to question numerous aspects of their society; this
culture is the Muslimculture. After doing some research, I realized that one of the most important
dynamics to the Muslim culture is their Islamic faith. Islamis not only a religion, but it is a way of
life to this population (Burrell, D., Pg. 18). The beliefs that Muslims uphold, in this religious
sense, govern their way of life in almost every way possible. Once recognizing that religion is an
extreme influential factor to their society, I wanted to learn what part of the religion gives the
fundamental basis to this particular belief system. What I found regarding this are the five pillars of
Islamic faith (IslamReligion.com).
Islamic Faith The five pillars of the Islamic faith are of tremendous importance to the Muslim
culture. These five pillars are the foundation of Islamic teachings, principles and morals. One
could think of the pillars just as you would think of the pillars of a building. As some buildings
need pillars to remain standing, Muslims believe that the five pillars are essential to the existence
and continuation of their religion. There are many aspects to the Islamic religion, but the five
pillars are required for anyone who wants to acquire the title of

Physical Therapy Vs Houston Northwest Medical Center Case...
1960 Family Practice vs. Houston Northwest Medical Center First of all, according to introduction
to physical therapy, Physical therapy is a health profession whose primary purpose is the promotion
of optimal health and function. Physical therapy is a form of rehabilitation that physical therapists
use to help patients recover from an injury or a physical disability. Many people think that the
process of the Physical Therapyis the same in everywhere where a Physical Therapist performed
his job. However, that s not true because a physical therapydepends of many characteristics such as,
the disability or the type of the injury of the patient. In fact, to know more about the topic I visited
two facilities, which are an outpatient clinic and a hospital to compare and contrast how the PT
performed the Physical therapy in each facility.

Transcendentalist
Transcendentalism and Christianity Have Incompatible Beliefs
Transcendentalism is a group of new ideas in literature, religion, culture, and philosophy that
emerged in the early to middle 19th century (Wikipedia). Transcendentalism first started with Ralph
Waldo Emerson, one of the pioneers of the Transcendentalists, who in his essay Nature , criticized
several things, especially the Unitarian church (Wikipedia). Many other Transcendentalists such as
Thomas Parker, Henry David Thoreau, Amos Bronson Alcott, and James Freeman Clark, along with
Emerson, were critics of their society because they didn t like the fact that people had unthinking
conformity (Stanford 1). Transcendentalists work to make the world better through social ... Show

This means that God occupies the first place in their beliefs; therefore, they will never put God and
nature in the same unity as Transcendentalists do. A last incompatible belief about God between
Transcendentalists and Christians is that Transcendentalists believe that human beings can become
like God, that they can grow a resemblance to God (Stanford 2). Christians do not have the same
point of view about that because, for them, God is perfect and the creator of everything, including
humans (Certificate 2). So, logically, there is no way that humans could achieve the perfection of
their creator. The incompatible beliefs about God make the two doctrines even more incompatible
because Transcendentalists don t see God as powerful as Christians do. The last area where the
beliefs of Transcendentalists and Christians are incompatible is about the Bible. The Bible or Holy
Scriptures contains the Old and New Testaments which are the written words of God and Christians
believe strongly in it. They say that it was given by God and contains his knowledge which is the
basis of Christian s theology (Certificate 2). But Transcendentalists don t like the idea of putting
theology between people and God (Gentry). They believe that people can by themselves know more
about God or the truth in general (Lewis). This is incompatible with the Christians beliefs about the
truth found in the Bible. Another reason why Transcendentalist and Christian beliefs about the

Benjamin Franklin s Virtues To Create A Perfect Moral Society
One of Benjamin Franklin s goals in life was to create a perfectly moral society. Is there even
such a thing as a perfectly moral society? How would one go about forming this unheard of
thing? Franklin observed people and used his own knowledge to form his list of thirteen virtues,
behaviors that conduct high moral standards. Could these virtues create a perfect society? In
order for Franklin s plan to work, every person must follow all thirteen of these virtues. A benefit
comes from each thing Franklin listed. One of these benefits is creating good citizens. A good
citizen is someone who respects their town, government, and fellow peers. Temperance and
moderation are good qualities to have because that means everyone can control themselves. Silence
also comes in handy because it can keep people from getting offended or hurt by another person s
words. Order keeps everything running smoothly, even in time of disaster. Tranquility can... Show

Chasity is one of the few I would choose to remove. While it does show self control, I do not
believe that determines if you are a good citizen. I also believe moderation could be removed
because it is closely related with temperance. Silence is another thing that can be good at certain
times, but can also be bad at other times. Sometimes people need to speak their opinions;
otherwise, nothing would ever be changed. Everything would stay exactly the same and I don t
think they would be good for society. Cleanliness is also another virtue that does not relate to being
a good citizen. While it does have something to do with your character and appearance, it does
not affect your morals and ability to be a good citizen. These are the only revisions I would
make to Franklin s plan. I see no need for anything else to be removed or added. He covered the
basics, but in some sense he went a little overboard. Although these are good qualities to have, do

Similarities Between Poaqqatsi And To Kill A Mockingbird
Separate but equal has been a saying in the United States and all over the world for many years,
but through history people have learned that this doesn t really work; one group will always get
more than the other; it will be unequal. The choice on how one treat people who are different from
them is put on oneself. When surrounded by people who believe in and practice racial inequality, it
is possible to be someone who doesn t treat people unequally due to the color of their skin. In both
the film Powaqqatsi and the book To Kill a Mockingbird, one can see characters struggling with
inequality and ultimately overcoming it. Characters in both the movie and the book unknowingly

Scout, in the book To Kill a Mockingbird, was raised by Atticus in a small county in Alabama.
Her father taught her to treat everyone equally no matter who they are or who they are said to
be; the town was less accepting than that. Most of Maycomb County looked at Boo Radley as
someone to be avoided because he was thought to be different and was considered to be a
forbidding man who never left his home. The way the town looked at Boo gave Scout that
impression she has at the beginning of the story, and it s the reason Scout is scared of him.
Atticus, on the other hand, thought it ridiculous that Scout was so frightened of a man just
because of the rumors she had heard about him. By the end of the book, and because of her
upbringing, Scout is able to make up her own mind about Boo and care for him in her own way
no matter what others thought. Like Scout, the pink tree in Powaqqatsi is individual in that it s
surrounded by all the green trees. The pink tree was supposed to grow up and be green like all
the trees around it; however, because of the particular land and type of seed, it grew to be a pink
tree instead. The pink tree and Scout both managed to mature to be different than their
surroundings; they both managed to individual and move off the status quo based on what they

ADR can also be defined as looking for substitute ways to solving cases other than the court. It is
no surprise that ADR has become a new trend in civil dispute resolution; in the early 2000s, ADR
techniques were being used more and more, as parties and lawyers and courts realized that these
techniques could often help them resolve legal disputes quickly and cheaply and more privately
than could conventional litigation. Moreover, many people preferred ADR approaches because
they saw these methods as being more creative and more focused on problem solving than
litigation, which has always been based on an adversarial model. Lawyers involed in the use of
ADR,as a way of settling cases have goals whichhave to be achieved;
1. improve a cordial relationship between industries
2. increase face to face discussions between stakeholders, leading to local solutions for local

3. ensure efficient use of everyone s time and resources.
4.Resolve disputes without the cases reaching the court.
There are five main processes by which disputes may be resolved by parties other than

The Dangers Of Polish People In The Holocaust
In the graphic novel The Complete Maus by Art Spiegelman, the Polish people were conveyed as
selfish and cruel for the actions they chose to carry out, protecting themselves before the Jews. I
do not necessarily believe the Polish people were as evil as the Germans during the Holocaust, but
I believe that in this world no one is perfect. Everyone has done things that they are not proud of as
human beings. I am convinced that the Polesare better than the Nazis because the Poles actually
tried to assist some Jews by hiding them in their homes. As humans, we cannot really know what
we would do in circumstances like the Holocaustunless we are faced with them. People may still
judge the Poles for their actions however, they were humans beings making a human decision.
During the Holocaust, there was a select few Polish people that were willing to risk their lives
and provide refuge for Jews that were in need of harboring. In the article One million Polish
rescuers of hunted Jews? by Hans G Furth, Furth discusses the number of rescuers that were
executed as a result of hiding some Jews in their homes. According to Furth, Thousands of Poles
were executed for helping Jews (Furth 230). The Polish people received the same punishment as
the Jews when they were discovered by the Nazis during the Holocaust. The Poles were murdered
on the spot or burned alive with the Jewish victims. During that period of time, Jews were walking
the streets disguised as Polish people. A

Big 10 Basketball Analysis
The Big 10 is in the middle of what is obviously down year. Still, there is not a Big 10 team with
a losing record and the majority of the league still has a chance at making the tournament. That
being said, if the bracket was drawn up right now, only Purdue, Michigan State, Ohio State, and
Michigan would actually be in the tourney. Maryland and Minnesota are both still have a chance
of popping the tournament bubble, and while Northwestern is currently a lackluster 11 7, they re a
team that has the potential to make a run and squeeze their way into the tournament. It s worth
noting that Penn State is sitting at 13 6 so if they win the majority of their conference wins they
could slide their way in. Really in the Big 10 the only two tourney locks are Purdue and ... Show

Changes Between Civil War And Reconstruction In Indian...
Essay A 1 Although the horrors of the American Civil War and Reconstruction within Indian
Territory were fresh. Yet, the presence of Indian Territory changed drastically between 1865 and
1889, because of the Second Trail of Tears , the unrest of the Southern Plains tribes of western
Indian Territory, and the impact of U.S. Polices on Indian Territory.
The Indian Nations lost nearly half their land due to the Reconstruction treaties of 1866, which
required the land lost to be used for resettlement of more Indian tribes. Indian populations within
Indian Territory did not change much from 1865 to 1900, but the non Indian populations soon
outnumbered the Indian populations six to one (Baird and Goble, p 126). Lane Pomeroy Plan
pushed by the Kansas representatives, James Lane and Samuel Pomeroy, to pressure the Federal
government to remove more Indians to Indian Territory (Baird and Goble, p 131). The
Homesteading movement increased pressure to relocate Indians to Indian Territory to open up
more lands in surrounding states for settlement. Upwards to 15,000 Indians were relocated to
Indian Territory during the Second Trail of Tears(Baird and Goble, p 131). The increased diversity
between Indian tribes and the growing non Indian population created a tension for Indians to
maintain control of Indian Territory, which grew worse as the territory edged closer to statehood.
The Second Trail of Tears, like the first, were done in a series of waves of forced and voluntary

and happy. One day, as she was picking flowers in her field, her uncle, Hades, saw her and
instantly fell in love with her. Hades decided to kidnap Persephone and took her to the
underworld, where he was the god. He locked her in the Hall of Hades, where Persephone wept
endlessly. There is a legend that says that if you eat anything in Hades lair, you can never leave.
Persephone didn t want to risk being stuck in hell for the rest of her life, so she didn t eat. This
lasted for a week, until she could no longer bear the hunger; Persephone ate six pomegranate seeds
and life in the underworld began to feel permanent.
In the intro to the story it mentions something very important about Zeus wife (and sister),
Demeter. Her job of growing the crops was of the utmost importance if she was happy, her crops
would grow abundantly, but, if she was sad, her crops would wither and die. The people would
begin to starve. The other gods, demigods, and even mortals would strive to keep her happy. What
made Demeter most happy was spending time with her daughter, Persephone. So when Persephone
was kidnapped, Demeter was devastated; and the crops began to die.
Zeus had to get Persephone back because he was the king of the gods and was responsible for the
lives of the people who would die if no crops grew. He sent his son, Hermes, a messenger and great

The College Republicans Of Liberty University
Final Critique
The client that my group chose to work with was the College Republicans of Liberty University.
Since this semester was during presidential election cycle, the client was happy to have our
assistance with helping promote the club. During this semester, many challenges occurred that both
the club and our group faced; however, we were able to accomplish the goals that the client wanted
to accomplish from our project.
Goal and Organization at Initial Development of Project
At the beginning of the semester, our group spoke with the client to develop several goals that
they wanted our group to achieve throughout this semester. After speaking to the Vice Chairman
John Wood (2016), one of the main tasks that he wanted our group to assist the club with
accomplishing was to use the election to boost engagement within the club for both club meeting
attendance and also visibility on social media. Since the media was covering he election for a
large part of the day, Wood discussed the idea that since the media is covering the election for a
large part of the day, politics is on the mind of people more now than it would be during midterm
elections. By using the fact that the election is top of mind for many individuals at Liberty, the
club wanted to take advantage of this season and also gain members. The last goal that the club
wanted to accomplish was to increase voter registration and voter turnout on Election Day.
Goal Changes
While our goals did stay the same

The Great Error In Rip Van Winkle
In order to name people who are like Rip Van Winkle we should know more about Rip Van Winkle.
Rip is a person who would rather starve on a penny than work for a pound, and he takes the world
easy. In the book on page 311 it says The great error in Rip s composition was an insuperable
aversion to all kinds of profitable labor. , and it is saying Rip had a distaste for all kind of gainful
jobs. Rip was ready to join everyone else business, but not to his own. His family duty and the
keeping of his farm in order suffered. The book goes on to describe the rough shape of his farm,
and how his fence was continually falling to pieces. Also his cow would go astray, or get among
the cabbages; weeds were sure to grow quicker in his field. Even Rip s children were shabby and
wild; it s said that his son promised to inherit the habit, with the old cloths of his... Show more

Rip s wife always hammering in his ears about his sluggishness, his carelessness, and the ruin he
was bringing on his family. It s kind of funny because it was really hard to think of people with the
Rip Van Winklestereotype, but then it finally came to me Homer Simpson from the Simpson.
Homer is lazy and ignorant to what is going on in the world. His wife marge is always nagging
him about taking care of things at home and his son Bart is taking on his dad bad habits. One
episode that comes to mind is where marge is nagging homer about talking to Bart because is put
himself and other in danger by playing with construction vehicles. Also the Simpson movie comes
to mind also because Homer didn t empty out his pig seller the right way, and marge constantly
nagged homer about emptying the seller the right way. Since Homer didn t listen to his wife it
ultimately ended up bringing destruction to his home. Next person that comes to mind is Ancient
Greek philosopher Diogenes who was thought to be homeless. He begged or stole for what he
needed, which is like Rip who would starve than work pound for

Capricorn By Max Ernst, Pokal ) By Balthasar Griessmann
Artists do not create sculptures. They simply see an object and begin to mold or carve it, thus
allowing that object to freely stand alone. Almost anything can be sculpted, but what makes a good
monument is its ability to tell a story or cause contemplation without words. Two pieces at the
Nelson Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City depict unique scenarios using lines, movement,
balance, and value. Capricorn by Max Ernst and Pokal by Balthasar Griessmann use organization
of the elements of form and principles of design to both narrate and describe intense ideologies.
While both pieces have similarities such as being sculptured in the round and storytelling ability,
the use of the elements and overall tones of the art works give each piece a unique quality.
Max Ernst, a German artist born in the late 1890 s created Capricorn in 1948 using a Bronze
casting system. The sculpture depicts a royal family, consisting of a man, a woman, and a small
child (female). They man is sitting on what seems to be a throne, and is holding a massive cane.
The woman sits next to the man on her own chair, in a very formal upright position, while the
small girl sits on the man s lap. Max Ernst titled the work Capricorn , which relates to astrology
and a constellation, suggesting a spiritual belief. Ernst was married to Dorothea Tanning, a fellow
artist, and it is believed that the characters in the sculpture are portrayals of them. Ernst also owned

Jean Michel Basquiat s Riddle Me This, Batman , produced in 1987 is a Neo Expressionist
figurative painting (see fig. A.1). It was first shown in Paris s Galerie Yvon Lambert. Two months
after its debut, the piece exchanged hands several times, emerging briefly from private collections
only to be snapped up at auction. Most recently, it was sold at a Sotheby s auction for over six
million USD.
Mark sagoff 119
Million dollar pieces were common in the 1980 s. During this time, the price of neo expressionist
works increased steadily. In the market place of public bidding wars and private sales it seemed
that art no longer had intrinsic value. The ever increasing prices of these works drove many artists

[...] Significant Form is the one quality common to all works of visual art.
Significant form is substituted for beauty for two reasons. First, beauty reduces to a universal,
excluding its use as a standard. If beauty can be an objective standard, then it also must be
particular, in that it can be known. If beauty is understood as an underlying principle, or essence
of art that evokes aesthetic emotion where essence is defined by what it is said to be in respect of
itself then absent of the predications that describe beauty, such as the accuracy of representation,
technical skill, or impressive form, all that remains is beauty evidently. Secondly, people are apt to
use beauty to predicate a subject absent of the aesthetic emotion that its presence evokes. Therefore,
any system of aesthetics which pretends to be based on some objective truth is palpably ridiculous
... . Using the framework formerly established, in conjunction with analysis from Clive Bell, John
Hospers, Kakuzo Okakura and A.W. Eaton, Basquiat s Riddle Me This, Batman will be dissected
in order to reveal meaning, interpret, and provide evidence that this is indeed Basquiat s
masterwork (relate to other pieces)
However, before any analysis can begin it is important to understand the author and his ability. The

Steroids In Sports Essay
This article reviews the prevalence, physiology and effects of common PESs among athletes, and
the evolution of drug testing from physician perspective since last decade. Surprisingly, the result
of survey in this study revealed most of the athletes taking these drugs begin at a young age and
they lack knowledge about future implication of its usage. Most of these drugs seem harmless;
some of these substances are naturally occurring, easily available and completely legal. World
Anti Doping Agency (WADA) labels a substance as banned in competition if two of the following
three criteria are met: (1) enhances sport performance, (2) poses a risk to health, or (3) violates the

  • 2. Mcdonaldization of Olympic s Case RosarioMGMT110 Assessment 3 McDonaldization of Olympic s case I m going to analyse this case because I want to understand how this process of McDonaldization is affecting the Olympic games in his traditions and who s deciding what happens on the competitions in considerations of scheduling times and events broadcasting. Why is it so important for NBC to put the events in prime time for the United States ? And how can the will of one big company decide over many others entities that are involved in the Olympics ? But first a brief description of what McDonaldization is: Process of rationalization, albiet taken to extreme levels. Rationalization is a sociological term that simply means the substitution of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main issue that we find in the managing choice of the IOC is the hegemony of power enforced by the main investors. Some people may rile against the commercialization or Americanization of the Olympics but figures show that the dollars from the US is critical for the sustenance of the Olympic movement. Besides TV, the IOC s another major stream of income is private partnership. ( D.Jones 2012) On the NBC side, it was a very smart move that took place a while ago during the cold war, when USA used the Olympics to prove the supremacy over the USSR. It s not only about broadcasting the games in their own country, but also getting the visibility globally as the main protagonists of the global event. All this income from the US for the committee is vital to keep the games happening, the big problem now days is that the structure of the Olympics is entirely based on big companies paying the bills for the massive costs that have to be covered to organize, manage and built facilities and events for the games. So from a IOC s managing perspective the choice of keeping happy major investors makes sense and it wouldn t be so criticized if it was a little less against the Olympic spirit. Athletes being forced to race at early morning hours by McDonald s, Coca Cola s etc ads is not really what the spirit of the event should be. But to make everything happen, someone has to pay for everything that we see during races, competition, games and ceremonies. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. On Collective Memory, By Maurice Halbwach The central theme of Maurice halbwach in his book On Collective memory is the relationship between memory and the society. This book constitutes nature, memories of individuals, social class and religion. Not only is the nature of collective memory important but also the linguistic part of the collectivity is also looked upon. Halbwach is of the view that memory is not static, it is a dynamic one. It is because memory is continuously reconstructed and one of the medium is through language with which they convey. Within the structure of family, class and religion there could be many frameworks of memory working simultaneously. From the works of scholars like Emile Durkheim and Henri Bergson, Maurice halbwach borrowed some ideas. Halbwach was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As it was difficult for him go along with people from other communities and places, he was excluded from his friends collective memory and their memory from Halbwachs s. He gives another example where after the disintegration of Soviet Union the history books showed the biases as people who were killed then were now termed as heroes. Thus collective real memory was shedding and reconstruction of new memories was taking place. The whole soviet history had to be re written of the last 70 years. The books also demolished the old and real memories and new generations are learning the reconstructed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Similarities Between Hindu And Zoroastrianism The historical difference starts when a group named Aryan separates into two where one moves to India and the other moves to Iran. To date it is believed that Zoroastrianism came as a child religion of Rigvedic which is a more ancient religion. It was practiced among some Aryans. This can then explain some of the differences and similarities between Hindu and Zoroastrianism. The differences are as a result of them wanting to make the child religiondistinct from the mother religion. Zoroastrianism was commonly practiced in Iran and ended up being the most ancient monotheistic religion with a huge following. Those who went to India were met with different climatic conditions and hence had to change their lifestyle. This would include their religious beliefs but they kept some of the Vedic beliefs. For those in Iran most of the Vedic practices were lost and only few of them were left of which were in the Zoroastrian religion. Zoroastrianism was a monotheistic and messianic which most teachings revolved round prophet Zoroaster, this would lead to very few similarities between this religion and Hinduism. Vedic tradition which was a common factor was slowly eliminated in the Zoroastrian by use of the teachings and in the end severing any connections between the two. The differences between the Vedic and the Zoroastrian religion are more of a coincidence and less of an intent. The former Vedic religion that existed disappeared widely on the introduction ... • 6. Osmosis Lab Report Essay Natasha Tenen Lab: Thursday (3 6 pm) OSMOSIS LAB REPORT INTRODUCTION Osmosis is a special type of diffusion where water molecules move down a concentration gradient across a cell membrane. The solute (dissolved substance) concentration affects the rate of osmosis causing it either to speed the process up or slow it down. Based on this, how does different concentrations of sucrose affect the rate of osmosis? If sucrose concentration increases in the selectivity permeable baggies, then the rate of osmosis will increase. MATERIALS AND METHODS The start of the experiment consisted of filling up four beakers with de ionized water to 150 ml. After the beakers were filled to the appropriate amounts they were then labeled with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The trend line that occurred for the rate of osmosis was an upward increase as the solute concentration increased. DISCUSSION The class data that was received supported the group members hypothesis that the rate of osmosis will increase if the sucrose concentration increases as well. The trend line that was received from the data also supported the hypothesis because it increased as the sucrose concentration increased. The initial weight gain percents were all different because all of the groups sugar concentrations were not completely identical. The method used wasn t entirely accurate because there could ve been some flaws such as some bags weren t secured enough and might have leaked sucrose into the de ionized water causing the results to be different. The bags might have not been washed thoroughly which could have ultimately allowed sucrose into the de ionized water. The results could have been more accurate if the baggies were left in the ... Darkness And Darkness In Joseph Conrad s Heart Of Darkness He Spelled Those Around Him Without Realizing That He Himself Had Been Spelled Throughout Conrad s Heart of Darkness, he proves that all humans ultimately have some form of dark within their soul. Even through the title one can see the irony between the heart, showing light and humanity, and the darkness, displaying evil and immoral. The protagonist, Marlow, listens to other members of the company illustrate Kurtz as both a universal genius (Conrad 33) and as a man with enough power to frighten the manager (Conrad 37). Throughout the novel Kurtz symbolizes the key theme of darkness and savagery, contributing to the overarching purpose of conveying Africa s true environment and impact on humans. For the majority of the novel, Marlow is yet to meet the mysterious Kurtz. The different, opposing perspectives of Kurtz s persona cause Marlow to wonder uncontrollably and crave the presence of the man himself. Marlow practically hears Kurtz even before meeting him: The man presented himself as a voice... the gift of expression, the bewildering, the illuminating, the most exalted and the most contemptible, the pulsating stream of light, or the deceitful flow from the heart of an impenetrable darkness (Conrad 57). After nearly two hundred amendments to the constitution, everyone is supposed to be equal in every way. Nobody was smarter than anybody else. Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was stronger or quicker than anybody else. (232 Vonnegut). In this landscape Vonnegut shows that people will never be completely equal, and trying to force equality through controlling individuals will only create a new class system. There wasn t necessarily any more work to do, it was just split up into different tasks. Our very primary task was set to us over Summer 2015 as an introduction to GCSE Art and Design. We were asked to do some research on Pop Art and to present what we had learnt in our books, this could include different Pop Art artists, the introduction to Pop Art and attempts at recreating some of the art works. With this task I decided to make a 3D piece in order to play around with different mediums and make it a part of my full piece which was mostl 2D. Overall, out of the tasks that I completed for this Unit this was not one of my favourite works seeing as I was not happy with the way James face turned out as it did not look enough like the person I was trying to illustrate. The origin of these skeptical and fearful preconceptions is the imperfect history of the practice. The most primitive forms of electroconvulsive therapy began in the 1930s, with the injection of various chemicals into mental health patients, inducing seizures. The first published reports of such treatments came from Ladislas Meduna, a Hungarian neuropsychiatrist whose experiments sparked the interest of clinicians worldwide (Fink, Electroconvulsive 1). The first account of actual electroconvulsive therapy was in 1938 in Italy; neurologist Ugo Cerletti, and his assistant Lucio Bini, applied electrodes on both temples of the patient, and passed electricity through the brain, causing the patient to have a seizure (Fink, Electroconvulsive 2). The earliest ECT procedures were administered without anesthesia or muscle relaxants, and the seizures it induced were brutal, often resulting in fractures and severe memory loss. However, the success of this experimentation outweighed the trepidation it created, and the use of ECT progressed, using Cerletti s studies as a foundation and orienting around the use of electric currents instead of chemicals. Despite its growing popularity and usage, through the 1950s, the procedure was administered recklessly, still lacking the use of anesthetics or muscle relaxants, and intensifying negative effects with implementation of a higher, more dangerous level of electrical current (Electroconvulsive Mayo 4 5). Transcendentalist Transcendentalism and Christianity Have Incompatible Beliefs Transcendentalism is a group of new ideas in literature, religion, culture, and philosophy that emerged in the early to middle 19th century (Wikipedia). This means that God occupies the first place in their beliefs; therefore, they will never put God and nature in the same unity as Transcendentalists do. A last incompatible belief about God between Transcendentalists and Christians is that Transcendentalists believe that human beings can become like God, that they can grow a resemblance to God (Stanford 2). Christians do not have the same point of view about that because, for them, God is perfect and the creator of everything, including humans (Certificate 2). So, logically, there is no way that humans could achieve the perfection of their creator. The incompatible beliefs about God make the two doctrines even more incompatible because Transcendentalists don t see God as powerful as Christians do. The last area where the beliefs of Transcendentalists and Christians are incompatible is about the Bible. The Bible or Holy Scriptures contains the Old and New Testaments which are the written words of God and Christians believe strongly in it. They say that it was given by God and contains his knowledge which is the basis of Christian s theology (Certificate 2). But Transcendentalists don t like the idea of putting theology between people and God (Gentry). They believe that people can by themselves know more about God or the truth in general (Lewis). Is there even such a thing as a perfectly moral society? How would one go about forming this unheard of thing? Franklin observed people and used his own knowledge to form his list of thirteen virtues, behaviors that conduct high moral standards. Could these virtues create a perfect society? In order for Franklin s plan to work, every person must follow all thirteen of these virtues. A benefit comes from each thing Franklin listed. One of these benefits is creating good citizens. A good citizen is someone who respects their town, government, and fellow peers. Temperance and moderation are good qualities to have because that means everyone can control themselves. Sometimes people need to speak their opinions; otherwise, nothing would ever be changed. Everything would stay exactly the same and I don t think they would be good for society. Cleanliness is also another virtue that does not relate to being a good citizen. While it does have something to do with your character and appearance, it does not affect your morals and ability to be a good citizen. These are the only revisions I would make to Franklin s plan. Yet, the presence of Indian Territory changed drastically between 1865 and 1889, because of the Second Trail of Tears , the unrest of the Southern Plains tribes of western Indian Territory, and the impact of U.S. Polices on Indian Territory. The Indian Nations lost nearly half their land due to the Reconstruction treaties of 1866, which required the land lost to be used for resettlement of more Indian tribes. Indian populations within Indian Territory did not change much from 1865 to 1900, but the non Indian populations soon outnumbered the Indian populations six to one (Baird and Goble, p 126). Lane Pomeroy Plan pushed by the Kansas representatives, James Lane and Samuel Pomeroy, to pressure the Federal government to remove more Indians to Indian Territory (Baird and Goble, p 131). The Homesteading movement increased pressure to relocate Indians to Indian Territory to open up more lands in surrounding states for settlement. Upwards to 15,000 Indians were relocated to Indian Territory during the Second Trail of Tears(Baird and Goble, p 131). • 45. Capricorn By Max Ernst, Pokal ) By Balthasar Griessmann Artists do not create sculptures. They simply see an object and begin to mold or carve it, thus allowing that object to freely stand alone. Almost anything can be sculpted, but what makes a good monument is its ability to tell a story or cause contemplation without words. Two pieces at the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City depict unique scenarios using lines, movement, balance, and value. Capricorn by Max Ernst and Pokal by Balthasar Griessmann use organization of the elements of form and principles of design to both narrate and describe intense ideologies. While both pieces have similarities such as being sculptured in the round and storytelling ability, the use of the elements and overall tones of the art works give each piece a unique quality. Max Ernst, a German artist born in the late 1890 s created Capricorn in 1948 using a Bronze casting system. The sculpture depicts a royal family, consisting of a man, a woman, and a small child (female). They man is sitting on what seems to be a throne, and is holding a massive cane. The woman sits next to the man on her own chair, in a very formal upright position, while the small girl sits on the man s lap. Max Ernst titled the work Capricorn , which relates to astrology and a constellation, suggesting a spiritual belief. Ernst was married to Dorothea Tanning, a fellow artist, and it is believed that the characters in the sculpture are portrayals of them. Ernst also owned several Katsina, or Zuni sprit ... [...] Significant Form is the one quality common to all works of visual art. Significant form is substituted for beauty for two reasons. First, beauty reduces to a universal, excluding its use as a standard. If beauty can be an objective standard, then it also must be particular, in that it can be known. If beauty is understood as an underlying principle, or essence of art that evokes aesthetic emotion where essence is defined by what it is said to be in respect of itself then absent of the predications that describe beauty, such as the accuracy of representation, technical skill, or impressive form, all that remains is beauty evidently. Secondly, people are apt to use beauty to predicate a subject absent of the aesthetic emotion that its presence evokes. Therefore, any system of aesthetics which pretends to be based on some objective truth is palpably ridiculous ... .
