Arthur Volupides Was Pushed Down The Stairs
Although some witnesses argue that Arthur Volupides was pushed down the stairs, actually he fell
down the stairs because he was drunk, and there was a pan on the stove with food inside. Body
Paragraph: The second reason Queenie did not push Arthur, and he fell is that the picture shows her
cooking. The picture has a stove top with a skillet, and steam rising from it. This proves he fell
because Queenie couldn t have pushed Arthur if she was cooking. Even after this proof, some people
still think otherwise. The opposition still argues that Queenie pushed Arthur down the stairs. Referring
back to the picture, Queenie s face is shocked. This further proves she couldn t have pushed him
because if she did push him, her face would be smiling and

The Effect of Spanish Colonization on California Indians
This paper will discuss the impact Spanish colonization and Mexican control had on the indigenous
Indian population in California between 1769 and 1848. As well as discussing the historical origins,
social organizations, material conditions, and world view of the California Indians prior to 1769, this
paper will explain the impact of New Spain s Mission System on the Alta California Indian population
between 1769 to 1821 and the response of its system by the Indians.
Before the Americans and the Spanish there were many indigenous Indian tribes living and thriving
with structure and culture in California. The Paleo Indians were the first people who entered and
inhabited the American continent from Asia during the late Pleistocene period (2 ... Show more

Anthropologist Lowell J. Bean has described the California Indians as non political, ethnic
nationalities. Tribes consisted of triblets , with each triblet including a group of neighboring villages
ranging from hundreds to several thousands individuals. Social classes almost were non existent,
except in the northwest where personal wealth was a common practice.
The history of the California Indians differ from any other ethnic group who came to the Americas in
the last few centuries as immigrants. Indians who came to North America and eventually traveled
south to California lived in a land plenty of natural resources and their material technology reflected
what was necessary to meet their basic needs. They did what was necessary to survive, nothing more,
nothing less. They lived in harmony with their environment with a cultural lifestyle that was more a
reflection of numbers and using the most out of everything. After 1769, things began to change.
Starting in 1500, a new world capitalist system was emerging in Europe. It was a start of a new age, an
age of discovery. Spain was looking for the Northwest Passage, a route linking Europe to Asia through
North America by sea. Every country was profit and trade driven and along with this new age
discovery was a new capitalist system called Mercantilism, which is a system based upon a state to
advance national business interests abroad and is increased

The Challenges of Taking Dell Private
By exploring the possibility of going private, Dell appears to hope that it can finally fix the problems
that have led to a 40 percent plunge in stock price over the last five years.
There s one problem, however: Going private may not be all that easy or help out the company in the
end.
The effort is under way, people briefed on the matter have confirmed to DealBook, with Dell talking
with private equity firms and exploring obtaining bank financing. It s unclear how long it will take to
reach a completed deal, though reports have suggested it may take nearly two months.
But a leveraged buyout of a company as big as Dell would be no small feat, and it would be dependent

could be as low as 8 percent. Avoiding the tax man could bolster that return to 31 percent.
(That may less of a problem, according to the investor Wilbur L. Ross, who told CNBC on Tuesday
that the company could sell eurodollar bonds, which may avoid incurring a steep tax charge.)
Dell also had almost $5 billion in long term debt as of Nov. 2. That means the newly private company
would be highly indebted, though analysts at the ISI Group and Mizuho point out that the company
has respectable cash flow, generating about $3.7 billion in cash from operations during that time.
The bigger question for the company is whether going private would solve any of the issues it has
faced for years. Its traditional business of making and selling personal computers has become less and
less profitable, and Dell has already been trying to move into the more lucrative and stable market of
providing hardware and software services for corporations. That s not something that requires Dell to
be private, however.
And there s also the question of whether a newly private Dell, forced to spend much of its revenue on
paying down its debt, would have money to invest in its business or pay for new acquisitions. (Last
year alone, the company struck 10 deals, including the $2.4 billion purchase of Quest Software.)
Mr. Ross said on CNBC that he believed the chances of a deal coming together were about 50 50. But
there s still a lot of work and finagling

The Rise of Silas Lapham by William Dean Howells Essay
The Rise of Silas Lapham by William Dean Howells
In the novel, The Rise of Silas Lapham, William Dean Howells makes a particular point about the
morals of an individual in the business world. His point is that an individual, such as Silas, must check
their morals at the door if they have any plans to make it in the business world. The novel has always
been popular, partly because it presents Lapham s financial and social failure as consciously and
deliberately chosen when he has to decide whether he shall cheat and stay on top in business or tell the
truth and fail irrecoverably (Gibson 283). The Rise of Silas Lapham is a novel that deals with the
potential moral corruption of a man by money. The outward signs of Silas Lapham s ... Show more

Obviously the pressures of big business would be much tougher to deal with in a big city, like Boston,
than in a small rural farm town, because the competition to be the best is much greater in the urban
areas. The time period in which the story is set, the late 1800 s, is also a crucial part of the puzzle. All
throughout the early 1800 s up until the present, big business has been on the rise. When large
companies started setting up in cities, people moved to where the jobs were, and soon small towns
became gigantic urban metropolises. The big business is what ultimately causes Silas moral rise and
financial fall, and that is a crucial part of the plot. If the story where set in a different time period it
would not have as big an impact. Also during the late 1800 s, social standing was very important. In
those days a person was measured by their social standing, so it meant everything. The reason this is
important is because, interwoven in the main plot is a secondary plot. This secondary plot has to do
with the love triangle between Penelope Lapham, Irene Lapham, and Tom Corey. Everyone seems to
think that Tom and Irene are in love with each other, while in actuality it is Tom and Penelope that are
in love. This secondary plot only adds to Silas and Mrs. Corey s inner struggles. If the story where not
set in this time period, the social impact on the plot would also not be as great. Another aspect of the
setting is the house that they currently

Why Do Chinese Courts Accept Precedents And The Judicial...
TO WHAT EXTENT, DO CHINESE COURTS ACCEPT PRECEDENTS AS A REFERENCE IN
JUDICIAL DECISION MAKING?
In the course of globalization, there is a trend for legal systems in common law jurisdiction and civil
law jurisdiction to learn and absorb the advantages from each other. In general, common law countries
now have more codifications of statutes than before whereas civil law countries have become more
active in promoting the use of precedents. As for the People Republic of China (hereafter China or the
people republic ), it has gone through years of debates regarding whether it should adopt the Doctrine
of Precedent, which refer to case law system in common law jurisdiction, as a civil law countries.
Despite the fact that many scholars ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Black s Law Dictionary (1990), a precedent is an adjudged case or decision of a court
which is regarded as an example or authority for a subsequent case or a latter question of law on
identical or similar issues. However, this has not clearly explained how the precedent regime used in
common law jurisdiction is different from one that a state from statute law jurisdiction may use. As
Goodhart points out, the real differences in the two systems are the binding effect of decided cases
(Doctrine of Precedent). It would be too complex to explain the whole rule of binding precedent here
and, for the sake of the latter discussion, we only need to know one aspect: while precedent cases
create no legal obligation for a civil law judge to follow, a judge from common law countries is
obligated to follow a precedent judgment and the legal reasoning in it made by a superior court or a
court in the same level if a subsequence case contains identical facts and issues.
Based on this difference, some observers claim that China does not have a formal binding precedent
system and also denies the value of the established precedent regime in current China. Admittedly,
there is no legal recognition granting to an establishment of case law system in China, but this does

Identify Threats and Vulnerabilities in an IT Infrastructure
1. What are the differences between ZeNmap GUI (Nmap) and Nessus? NMAP is primarily a host
detection and port discovery tool. Instead of using Nessus to look for specific vulnerabilities against a
known quantity of hosts, NMAP discovers active IP hosts using a combination of probes. On the other
hand Nessus takes the open ports into account and notifies you if these ports have potential security
vulnerabilities attached to them.
Nessus is typically installed on a server and runs as a web based application. Nessus uses plugins to
determine if a vulnerability is present on a specified machine.

8. While Nessus provides suggestions for remediation steps, what else does Nessus provide that can
help you assess the risk impact of the identified software vulnerability? Through passive monitoring,
PVS can reveal devices and software on the network that are not authorized, or that may indicate a
network compromise.
9. Are open ports necessarily a risk? Why or why not? They are a risk because a trojan can be used to
transmit data to an attacker. They hold a port open, e.g. Port 31337. The attacker connects to the trojan
and sends requests to do a certain task, for example to make a screenshot. The trojan makes the
screenshot and sends the image via the port to the attacker. On newer trojans, the port number is quite
freely configurable, which makes identifying the trojan by the port number difficult. There are no
control mechanisms available which can prevent a trojan from using an specific port. If a trojan does
use the port 80, for instance, a novice user could imagine the program is a webserver, and may even
simply ignore the port.
10. When you identify a known software vulnerability, where can you go to assess the risk impact of
the software vulnerability? Nessus can detect thousands of problems, and it classifies each as one of

Kate Miller-Heidke s Caught In The Crowd
Bullying is a common problem faced by millions (Do Something, 2014) of students throughout the
world every year. It refers to the repetitive abuse to a certain being, through physical, verbal and/or
social behaviour. These tormenting methods are prominent worldwide and up to 71% (Do Something,
2014) of high school children report incidents of bullying each year. This can can lead to severe
symptoms, such as anxiety and depression (National Institute of Child Health, 2014) Consequences
including and similar to those listed above are major reasons why bullying is viewed as an important
global issue relating to teenagers.
Caught in the Crowd by Kate Miller Heidke is an effective example of a narrative poem related to
teenage bullying. This engaging poem casts viewers into the story of a young girl who travels through
high school and witnesses bullying. Certain circumstances lead to broken friendships, due to the
female s personal inability to stand up for someone in need. The message being ... Show more content

Unaware of how judgemental most high school students are, the child goes to school hoping to make

to inspire teenagers not to give up in times of doubt. An effective example of a poetic device used only
once towards the end of Dix s poem is personification. In this example the author utilises a poetic
device to express how her eyes [are] drowning in a sea of emotions . By specifying that her eyes are
about to die the writer conveys how the characters emotional status is declining, and overtaking her
other general personality because of bullying. This elicits an empathetic response from teenage readers
and alerts them of the struggles of getting

New Zealand Introduced A Tax Based Financing Health Care...
New Zealand introduced a tax based financing health care system in 1947 (Cumming et al, 2013) and
Singapore had a similar system after its independence in 1965 (Haseltine, 2013). Due to the increasing
pressure on public spending in financing health care, both countries have introduced health care
reforms since the 1970s to ease the pressure (Li, 2006). New Zealand has experienced a series of
reforms which represented a major restructuring of the health system. The reforms have led to the
creation of a devolved health care system that uses available health care resources efficiently
(Cumming et al, 2013). In contrast, the Singaporean government overhauled the whole system by
removing the tax based financing system and adopted the medical savings account system called the
Medisave in 1984 (Haseltine, 2013). Under the Medisave system, health care is mainly funded by
private financing, which requires each person to make savings in an individual account just for health
care spending.
In both countries, health related policies are formulated by the Ministry of Health. It also supports the
government in setting the health policy agenda, service requirements for the health system, and the
annual publicly funded health budget. In New Zealand, the National Health Board has been
established to provide advises to the Minister of Health and its responsibilities are for funding,
monitoring and planning of the District Health Boards, stronger alignment of services, and supporting

Analysis Of Kelly Clarkson s Piece
Learning to Trust: Kelly Clarkson Piece by Piece
A recent performance that captured not only the audience but also the judges on American Idol by
Kelly Clarkson called Piece By Piece not only had everybody in tears but also in complete awe. This
performance became huge in the world of Facebook, so many people watching the video, sharing the
video, and telling their stories about their feelings related to the lyrics. Throughout this essay I will be
discussing Kelly Clarkson s journey throughout her life, how single family parenting is impacting the
society, how the outlook on single family homes have changed throughout generations because it is
becoming more of a norm and finally the emotional connection to the songs that she has written in
regards to her father and the struggles she has faced throughout her life. To me Kelly has a way of
capturing her audience and pulling them into the songs and really making the lyrics make sense, and
helping people in similar situations realize that they are not alone in their struggles. Watching the
judges including Keith Urban sit and cry at her performance, showed how much this song really spoke
to so many people, and got me crying even harder then I was just listening to the song. Kelly has been
a huge success since winning the first season of American Idol. She came back to perform this
powerful piece on their final show. Even watching Jennifer Lopez reaction was hard to see. Everybody

Figurative Language In Dylan Thomas
Since my childhood I have never really been a fan of reading books, nevertheless, took the time to
analyze certain passages or readings in order to find the deeper meaning behind them. I have always
been a fan of music and understood lyrics; however, poetry is a step further in comprehension. Since
we studied Dylan Thomas as a class, I have found interest in his use of figurative language and his
approach to go against the grain with masterful imagery. Thomas themes of unity, life and death,
growth, and love all present a new perspective on the outlook of life and pose questions for how to
view the world moving forward. Dylan Thomas, although faced a lot of criticism for being overrated
and was an alcoholic which led to his self destruction, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He expands on this by stating, Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright / Their frail deeds might
have danced in a green bay (1433). Thomas claims that this generation or wave of good men will be
upset that their legacies and contributions won t be remembered. It s a feeling of sympathy for these
good men as a lot of times it s the little things in life we accomplish that gets overlooked. I draw
similarities from the word wave in the context. To me, the wave can represent life as it slowly builds
and grows to its peak then comes crashing down only to disperse just like the direction of the human
life as we age. As much as Thomas writing sounds to be directed to someone at this point, I believe
these two lines represent him in a way before he died, like the good men he speaks of, he may have
thought his deeds to poetry may be meaningless and forgotten someday not knowing how big of an
impact it has today. Following this, Thomas contrasts the good men by saying, Wild men who caught
and sang the sun in flight / And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way (1433). My interpretation of
this is Thomas is trying to be fair by recognizing the good man and the wild man, why? Possibly
because these were his beliefs and thoughts on how one should go about their life as they approach an
end but doesn t know which type of man he saw

French Revolution Turning Point Essay
This was a turning point in the revolution, when the government lost most of its control over the
population. Rights of Man and Citizen was also adopted to forestall the violence, as work on a
Constitution slowly began. August 27, 1789, the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen was
adopted by the National Constituent Assembly (History.com). These Enlightenment ideas such as
freedom of speech were radical at that time. The declaration professed its commitment to discard the
archaic ancien regime with a new order. This new government would be established on freedom of

War was declared on Austria and Prussia in 1972 by the new legislative Assembly (History.com). They
believed that French emigres were arranging regressive counter revolutionary alliances. By declaring
war they also hoped to spread their ideals across Europe, forcibly (History.com). This was a glimpse
of the insanity that the new government was going to bring to France. In the heart of France the revolt
had gripped the nation, as the political disaster took an extreme turn. This occurred when a rising
group of insurgents, led by a radical group called the Jacobins, attacked the royal residence at the
Tuileries Palace (History.com). They seized the king and his family on August 10,1792 during this

The Theft Of Memory By Jonathan Kozol Essay
Theme The theme of The Theft of Memory is somewhat of a social commentary, a personal and
medical analysis of Alzheimer s disease. Jonathan Kozol discusses his father s decent into Alzheimer s
from his own point of view and how the experience related to their family as a whole. He shares his
grief and suffering along with celebrating the impact that his father had on so many people throughout
his lifetime. Jonathan tells stories from his father s past to illustrate what an incredible doctor and
amazing man he truly was. The documentation of his father s illness is something that many people
can relate to within their own families. As his illness progresses, Dr. Kozol tries to diagnose and treat
himself at first before relinquishing that control to another doctor. Jonathan did everything in his
power to maintain his father s dignity throughout his life. The book documents the impact of
Alzheimer s disease on their family and tests the limits of Jonathan s devotion to his parents.
Summary
In this book, Jonathan discusses the changing dynamic between his parents and himself. In the
beginning his parents appear to be a loving couple and he appears to be a very devoted son. As his
parents age and his father s illness progresses, those dynamics change. His father loses all recollection
of who his family is and Jonathan s mother seems to detach herself from the situation, referring to his
father as the baby most of the time. Kozol (2015) says, Before she fell asleep that

Essay On Pw Botha
According to Hermann Giliomee, President PW Botha s speech on 15 August 1985 to the National
Party (NP) of Natal was the turning point at which white rule in South Africa failed to turn. Botha was
expected to use the speech, broadcast to a huge international audience, to turn around the South
African crisis that had worsened after the outbreak of uprisings in the townships in September 1984.
Spurning the expectations of bold reforms, Botha projected himself as the uncompromising leader of a
white minority determined to fight to the end for its survival.
The speech triggered a massive outflow of capital and intensified sanctions against South Africa. A
line in Botha s speech, Today we have crossed the Rubicon , promptly became the object of scorn and

Furthermore, I will propose a plan to address the root cause of the problems the organization is having
with its employees, and show why these few simple changes will have such a positive impact on the
overall morale of the organization.
The Organizational Challenge Few organizations can say they have been around for over 100 years,
let alone 125 years. More remarkable, few can say that they have steadily increased revenue and
market share during this entire stretch of time. This organization can proudly state this fact, and is a
well known retail beast that has sold everything from clothing to cars, and hats to homes. This
organization has been nationally recognized over the past 100 years for excellence in retail and
revolutionizing shopping, as we know it including having the famous catalogue for shoppers to
browse in the privacy of their own homes long before the internet was even a thought in some
technology moguls mind. Organizations like this are bound to have I O psychology related issues, and
this was certainly the case when I worked for them from 2011 to 2013. I was a General Manager (GM)

The Crucible Paranoia Analysis
What do you think of when you hear the word mass hysteria? In the Crucible, a play written by Arthur
Miller, is both an allegory and tragedy where the Puritan society of Salem is attacked with the hysteria
of witchcraft. It all started with five young girls of the Salem society caught dancing naked around a
bonfire. This practice is viewed upon by the Puritans as the task of the devil. In the beginning of the
play, there was controversy about ownership of land between some of the villagers. Later in the story,
people feared for their own safety and begin pointing fingers and accusing their neighbors of
witchcraft in order to escape being hanged. This caused the society to get more and more separated as
time went on. This emphasizes the idea of how fear and suspicion can destroy a society due to
accusations, roundups, and forced confessions. Miller captures the evil of paranoia and fear in his play
through emotions by letting them shine through his characters to make the audience feel the tension,
the angst and the desperation throughout the play.
Arthur Miller includes a large number of logical fallacies such as scare tactic and slippery slope in
order to emphasize the evil or paranoia and fear in his play through emotions of the characters. Miller
exemplifies scare tactic when Abigail says ... I saw Indians smash my dear parents head upon the
pillow next to mine, and I have seen reddish work done at night, and I can make you wish you had
never seen the sun go down!

Ancient China Essay
One of the most important inventions of all time was the invention of gunpowder. Imagine their
enemy s surprise when the Chinese first demonstrated their newest invention in the eighth century AD.
Chinese scientists discovered that an explosive mixture could be produced by combining sulfur,
charcoal, and saltpeter (potassium nitrate). The military applications were clear. New weapons were
rapidly developed, including rockets and others that were launched from a bamboo tube (Franklin
Institute). The Chinese are known for their inventions that still are used in the modern day. Those
inventions are paper, gunpowder, books, and much more.

I believe Paper was the greatest invention of all Chinese inventions, even greater than gunpowder.
Chinese legend tells that the new invention of paper was presented to the Emperor in the year 105 AD
by Cai Lun (Franklin Institute). In 105 AD, Han Emperor Ho Ti s chief eunuch T sai Lun tried with a
wide variety of materials and worked with the fiber of plants until each filament was completely
separate. The individual fibers were mixed with water in a large vat. Next, a screen was submerged in
the vat and lifted up through the water, catching the fibers on its surface. When dried, this thin layer of
intertwined fiber became what today we call paper. T sai Lun s thin, yet flexible and strong paper with
its fine, smooth surface was known as T sai Ko Shi, meaning: quot;Distinguished T sai s Paper quot;
and he became revered as the saint of papermaking.
It wasn t until the third century when the secret art of papermaking began to get out of China, first to
Vietnam and then Tibet. Taught by Chinese papermakers, Tibetans began to make their own paper as a
replacement for their traditional writing materials (Georgia Tech). It was introduced in Korea in the
forth century and spread to Japan in sixth century. There, during the eighth century, the Empress
Shotuka undertook a massive project consisting of printing a million prayers Dharani on individual
sheets of

Hacking Is The Responsibility Of The Computer System
The argument between two hackers who say that it is the responsibility of the owners of the computer
system to provide adequate security to keep hackers at bay are completely wrong. Neither their
argument nor their perspective holds ground. Before we look into the reasons behind why they are
wrong, it is important to first comprehend in detail about hacking and hackers. So what is hacking?
The term hacking was first promoted by the famous MIT between 1950s and 1960s. It all started as a
fun experiment in a lab, but it led to something completely different today. Hacking is a term used to
describe unauthorized, illegal intrusion into a network of connected systems or just an individual
system. It is a technical effort or a process that is used to exploit the vulnerabilities of a system or
connected systems to gain unauthorized access. Today it is synonymous with malicious activity on the
web. The act of hacking is carried out by powerful and highly skilled programmers known as hackers
who possess advanced knowledge about the systems. They do it because they are confident about their
skills and succeeding in their hacking attempts. These proficient individuals are extremely inquisitive
who are in pursuit of private information that is not publicly available. Accessing confidential or
private information is just one small part of hacking. They are capable of controlling, modifying and
denying the system from any kind of connections or cripple the system entirely bringing it

Can a Native State Exist Within a Canadian State
Political Scientists, Thomas Flanagan and Roger Townshend explain the key to the big question: Can a
Native State Exist Within a Canadian State? in the readings: The Case for Native Sovereignty and
Native Sovereignty: Does Anyone Really Want an Aboriginal Archipelago? . The essay will outline
and provide evidence to both sides, whether there could or could not exist a Native State in Canada.
The document will argue that Natives are not organized enough to form their own government.
Throughout the decades, Natives have agonized many savageries at the hands of the European settlers.

This would gradually abolish the Native rituals, religions, languages and traditions. Non Native
children had been separated from Native schools to regular English schools. They were not allowed to
practice their traditions, religions or language. They have been pushed away from their society and
that caused physical, sexual and emotional assault. Hunting rights were limited and the environment
of Natives and that has been affected by expansion events. One of the reasons why Aboriginals are in
jeopardy is caused by Canadian societies, which are outside their reserves. When they want to
participate and interact with non Natives, they are being suppressed.
On the reserves, there is a lack of education and Natives are forced to move from place to place to find
a job and live a stable life something that their reserve cannot provide. In the history of Canada, before
the Europeans have arrived to the North America, the Aboriginals struggled with their individual form
of government with a steady economy. Hence the fact, if the country were to allow them to form their
own government, they would be able to create and keep their sovereignty. Within past, the Natives
became familiar of using the easiest style of society, called a hunter gatherer society. Using this out of
date form of civilization they were repetitively considering for new regimes and food. Accordingly,
they were being forced to endlessly travel from momentary reserves.

Carson, Pirie Scott Building (1899 1904) is also known as Schlesinger Mayer Store which is located
in Chicago, Illinois at The World s Busiest Corner between State and Madison Street. This building
was designed by Louis Sullivan and Dankmar Adler for the retail firm Schlesinger and Mayer in 1899.
Carson, Pirie Scott Building is quite unusual building compared to other buildings as it continuously
developed overtime (Fig 1). Louis Sullivan considered Schlesinger and Mayer s aspect, giving the
new presence and atmosphere to the store among its neighbours along State Street, of the building that
lead him to design rounded corner entrance according to the site. The Building is surrounded by the

atmosphere due to its difference and ornamented exterior. There is three possible entrances to the

The International Criminal Court As An Advocate For Peace
The International Criminal Court as Both Mediator and Arbiter in Conflicts

POLI 1145 Peace and Conflict Studies
Wednesday, November 16, 2016
INTRODUCTION In the pursuit of positive peace for the global community, certain mechanisms
are necessary in order to better protect human rights and resolve interstate conflicts. Prior to the events
of World War II, a cogent set of laws defining those human rights, much less violations therein were
never heard at an international scale. The International Criminal Court has the role as both appellate
for justice and voice for peace in the international community but has not yet resolve the contradictory
ends of both roles. That contradictory end is that many countries proclaim the necessity of the
International Criminal Court as an advocate for conflict resolution and peace advocacy while being
resist or outright antagonistic towards the court when their own state has committed those same
crimes. To the ends of defending basic universal rights, the International Criminal Court (hereafter
ICC) serves that capacity when state level systems cannot or will not act accordingly. Initially, this
was seen following World War II with the Nuremberg trials in response to the atrocities committed by
Nazi Germany. However in more contemporary history, the ICC was formed to in response to the
events in the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda. These tribunals were unprecedented, not only in their

What Are Ranged Weapons In Medieval
Why Ranged Weapons were Essential in Medieval Combat Ever since the creation of the bow and
arrow armies have implemented the use of ranged weapons as a staple of battles and wars. The ability
to kill enemy soldiers without suffering losses to your own troops was battle changing and was used to
great effect during battles in the Medieval ages. Common ranged weapons used by armies in the
Medieval ages were variations of the bow, throwing axes and crossbows. The English in particular
were very effective at utilizing groups of long bowmen to decimate the enemy s troops. The long bow
used by the English had a draw weight of 150 to 200 pounds, which was the highest recorded draw

program that does not involve competition and is purely recreational. The program should meet once a

easier to win over these customers versus the ones that don t know Dickens and his company. With

The Issue Of Cyber Crimes Essay
Jurisdiction is one of the main issues on account of cyber crimes because of the extremely inclusive
nature of the cyber crimes. With the constantly developing arm of the internet the territorial concept
appears to vanish. New Methods for resolution of dispute should offer route to the traditional
techniques. Accordingly, the Information Technology Act, 2000 is quiet on these issues.
In spite of the fact that S. 75 accommodates extra territorial operations of this law, yet they could be
significant just when supported with provisions which recognizes orders and warrants for Information
issued by capable authorities outside their purview and measure for cooperation s for trade of material
and evidences of cyber violations between law implementation organizations.
Normally the jurisdiction of a court is identified with the place where the offense is committed. This
depends on the English common law position that all crimes committed are local and ought to be tried
just by the courts which have the jurisdiction over the matter and where the crime has been
committed. When there is a confusion with regards to the local area which any crime took place, the
courts, inside whose purview even a part of the offense was submitted, is given the jurisdiction to try
the matter.

Importance Of Polite Speech
People use polite speech to greet people or either to start something like a conversation with friends or
strangers and to express their gratitude to someone. Some people don t really like polite speech since
it never helped them out or they thought of polite speech as something unnecessary to life; however,
other people would think otherwise because polite speech is kind away to talk to someone or address
someone or even get what you want from someone like making someone go somewhere or even
tagging along to a party. This demonstrates that polite speech as a big function in today s society
because everyone uses polite speech to get something. Polite speech can used as a way to persuade

How Asthma Fit Into The Healthy People 2020
Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the airway that impacts a person s and their family s
quality of life. In people with asthma, their airway becomes constricted with swelling and excessive
mucous. This constriction or narrowing of the airway makes it difficult for the person with asthma to
breath (Massachusetts Department of Public Health, 2009). If asthma is left uncontrolled, it leads to
further wheezing, coughing, shortness of breath, tiredness, and stress. (Massachusetts Department of
Public Health, 2009).
How does asthma fit into the Healthy People 2020? As it is stated in Health People 2020, the main
goal is to, Promote respiratory health through better prevention, detection, treatment, and education
efforts. Under this goal, Healthy People list several objectives such as, reducing asthma death,
hospitalizations, emergency department (ED) visits, activity limitations, and miss school and work
days; in addition, increasing education and prevention program (Healthy People 2020, 2014).
Description of the Problem: Community Demographics Asthma is a serious problem nationwide. It is
also a significant problem in the state of Massachusetts, especially in communities in Boston.
However, according to Harvard School of Public Health and NIEHS Center for Environmental Health,

The story opens with a description of the perspective of the river Ebro, and the mountains past it, from

the hills out yonder help her to remember white elephants. This starts a little contention between them,
which the lady avoids by indicating out that something has been painted on the beaded shade that

There isn t a great deal more to the underlying circumstance than that. The intriguing Spanish setting
and all the elaborate ornaments are coincidental. The discussion that makes up this story could have
happened anyplace, at whatever time. Jig s apparently honest proclamation that the hills resemble
white elephants rapidly transforms into an opposition with the man over who has voyage more. Be
that as it may, that is only the top layer of the contention cake. Underneath this contention lies a
noteworthy inconvenience. To add on, turns out the hills are an allegory for pregnancy, which is
somewhat more critical than past travel understanding. The man entangles the officially convoluted
circumstance by saying that a premature birth is not an operation. All things considered, Jig assumes
in an unexpected way, which prompts to the peak. At the point when the man strolls off with the bag,
we think about for a minute whether he will vanish, simply continue strolling, sacks what not. When
we see him headed back we think about whether Jig will in any case be there holding up. The story
doesn t give us much time for tension, yet it s certainly there. The action is slowing down when the
man has a drink at the bar, and when he s strolling back to Jig, and after that when he strolls through
the drape. In the meantime, all conclusion is suspended; we don t know how things will end. Not an
exceptionally sensational finale, unless you focus on the connotations of the small scale discussion Jig
and the man have at the very end of the story. It s likewise fairly emotional to abandon us hanging

metaphor because he relates black oppression to an airtight cage and an affluent society with

Another example of a metaphor used by Martin Luther King Jr. appealing to pathos is his comparison

Confucianism was structured around respect for family and society. Confucianism was an important

The Most Important Decisions Of Your College Career

the all knowing Gurus of life, to all the newbie s starting out in life. Our passion for a particular job,

Women s Influence On Women
Women s fashion has been tremendously changing throughout the history. Women belonging from
different ethnic group had different fashion, even the women belonging from same ethnic group
followed different fashion depending on their race, cast, status or religion. Different clothing styles
have impacted the women in different ways; in different eras the character of women has been
determined by their clothing style. Similarly, clothing patterns of women in United States kept
changing throughout the time. Fashion has been reformed throughout the ages. Change in fashion has
reshaped the personalities of women. Particularly in nineteenth century, fashion played a significant
role in enforcing the existing definition of femininity, it had a notable effect on women s health;
however, the reformation of the fashion redefined femininity.
In the early nineteenth century, the prevailing definition of femininity was enforced by the way
women used to dress up. According to Torrens (1999), the ideal characteristics of women were to be
submissive, pious, home oriented, and pure which were restricted by and enforced by different means

Summary Of Passing Nella Larsen
Nella larsen s passing disrupts the traditional conception of racial, ethnic and gender integrity. Larsens
has revolutionized the idea of acceptance of one s self identity.Larsen wrote this novel in the height of
the Harlem Renaissance . An era that is known for its growth and expanse in the artistic explosion that
happened in Harlem between the end of World War I and the middle of the 1930s. During this period
Harlem was a cultural center, drawing black writers, artists, poets, and educated people. Many had
come from the South, running away from its terrible mistreatment and social class system in order to
find a place where they could freely express their talents. It involved racial pride, fueled in part by the
aggressiveness of the New Negro demanding civil and political rights. The Renaissance incorporated
jazz and the blues, attracting whites to Harlem, where couples danced. While it may have ... Show

After the chaos of the Spanish flu pandemic that struck the city in 1918 and 1919, she decided to
become a librarian and was employed at the 135th Street branch of the New York Public Library. At
the first look, Passing, the title of the short book may project many meanings to the reader. Passing
could refer to the change from life to death. Although the word passing could simply be referring to a
change , the word also suggests disguising oneself, or to take on a different identity. To pass, certainly
refers to a to cross an edge/border. While no significant suggestions of race or sexuality are given in
the title, it anyway suggests disguise, deceit and change . This changing period is quite possibly the
process that Nella Larsen is referring to in the title of her short book Passing. According to Webster,
change is defined as A passing or passage from one condition, action or place to another, and ...the

Abc Model Of Crisis Intervention Analysis
The ABC Model of Crisis Intervention is a method of conducting very brief mental health interviews
with clients whose functioning level has decreased following a psychosocial stressor (Kanel, 2018).
The most effective way to use the ABC model is four six weeks after the stressor. Cultural humility
and trauma informed care are the key points in this model as well as providing community referrals
and other resources when using the ABC model. According to Kanel (2018), the focus of this method
is identifying the cognitions of the client as they relate to the precipitating event and then altering
them to help decrease unmanageable feelings. The first known mention of this method was in 1968
but then it was further developed by Kanel over the course of 30 years. Within the ABC method, there
are three approaches. The three approaches are achieving rapport, boiling the problem down to basics,

This model integrates various assessment and triage protocols with three primary crisis oriented
intervention strategies: the seven stage crisis intervention model, psychological debriefing, and trauma
support services (Roberts, 2005). With this method, there are three different strategies; the seven stage
crisis intervention model, psychological debriefing, and trauma support services. Breaking down the
ACT model is as follows; A is for assessment/appraisal of immediate medical needs, threats to public
safety and property damage (Roberts, 2005). C is connecting to support groups, the delivery of
disaster relief and social services, and critical incident stress debriefing (Mitchell and Everly s CISD
model) implemented (Roberts,2005). The T is for traumatic stress reactions, sequelae, and post
traumatic stress disorders (PTSDs) (Roberts, 2005). When working with the ACT model, it is not
necessary to use the stages in

The Characterization of Miss Brill in Miss Brill by...
In the Bedford Introduction to Literature, Characterization is defined as ... the process by which a
writer makes that character seem real to the reader (2126). In order to do this a writer has multiple
tools at their disposal that add to the depth of a character and simplify roles in a story. This includes
the use of Protagonists and Antagonists, static and dynamic characters, showing and telling, and
motivated and plausible action, as well as many others. The short story Miss Brill by Katherine
Mansfield is no exception to this and displays the main character of Miss Brill as the protagonist, who
is confronted with the reality of her existence.
In order to bring us closer to Miss Brill, Mansfield uses the technique of showing, by ... Show more

This is also a nice example of the fore mentioned method of showing, allowing the reader to draw the
conclusion of the situation alone.
One of the most vital elements of the story though is the classification of Miss Brill as a dynamic
character. Being a dynamic character entail that the knowledge about the character grows and that
some kind of change takes place because of the action occurring in the plot. In Miss Brill this hinges
on the fact that Miss Brill spends her time alone, with almost no actual human contact. Her only
means of living life is through that of those around her, she watches their actions, listens to their
conversations and acts like a hidden parasite, drawing her own meaning in life by observing others, or
as she put it ... there was always the crowd to watch (Mansfield 259).
The tragedy of the story rests in that she does not see herself as this. She describes some of the other
people in the park as ... they were nearly always the same, Sunday after Sunday, and Miss Brill had
often noticed there was something funny about nearly all of them. They were odd, silent, nearly all
old, and from the way they stared they looked as though they d come just come from dark little rooms
or even even cupboards! (Mansfield 259), this is exactly what she is. Not only does this

Arthur Volupides Was Pushed Down The Stairs Although some witnesses argue that Arthur Volupides was pushed down the stairs, actually he fell down the stairs because he was drunk, and there was a pan on the stove with food inside. Body Paragraph: The second reason Queenie did not push Arthur, and he fell is that the picture shows her cooking. The picture has a stove top with a skillet, and steam rising from it. This proves he fell because Queenie couldn t have pushed Arthur if she was cooking. Even after this proof, some people still think otherwise. The Effect of Spanish Colonization on California Indians This paper will discuss the impact Spanish colonization and Mexican control had on the indigenous Indian population in California between 1769 and 1848. As well as discussing the historical origins, social organizations, material conditions, and world view of the California Indians prior to 1769, this paper will explain the impact of New Spain s Mission System on the Alta California Indian population between 1769 to 1821 and the response of its system by the Indians. Anthropologist Lowell J. Bean has described the California Indians as non political, ethnic nationalities. Tribes consisted of triblets , with each triblet including a group of neighboring villages ranging from hundreds to several thousands individuals. The history of the California Indians differ from any other ethnic group who came to the Americas in the last few centuries as immigrants. Indians who came to North America and eventually traveled south to California lived in a land plenty of natural resources and their material technology reflected what was necessary to meet their basic needs. They did what was necessary to survive, nothing more, nothing less. They lived in harmony with their environment with a cultural lifestyle that was more a reflection of numbers and using the most out of everything. After 1769, things began to change. Starting in 1500, a new world capitalist system was emerging in Europe. It was a start of a new age, an age of discovery. Spain was looking for the Northwest Passage, a route linking Europe to Asia through North America by sea. Every country was profit and trade driven and along with this new age discovery was a new capitalist system called Mercantilism, which is a system based upon a state to advance national business interests abroad and is increased ... The Challenges of Taking Dell Private By exploring the possibility of going private, Dell appears to hope that it can finally fix the problems that have led to a 40 percent plunge in stock price over the last five years. There s one problem, however: Going private may not be all that easy or help out the company in the end. The effort is under way, people briefed on the matter have confirmed to DealBook, with Dell talking with private equity firms and exploring obtaining bank financing. It s unclear how long it will take to reach a completed deal, though reports have suggested it may take nearly two months. That means the newly private company would be highly indebted, though analysts at the ISI Group and Mizuho point out that the company has respectable cash flow, generating about $3.7 billion in cash from operations during that time. The bigger question for the company is whether going private would solve any of the issues it has faced for years. Its traditional business of making and selling personal computers has become less and less profitable, and Dell has already been trying to move into the more lucrative and stable market of providing hardware and software services for corporations. That s not something that requires Dell to be private, however. And there s also the question of whether a newly private Dell, forced to spend much of its revenue on paying down its debt, would have money to invest in its business or pay for new acquisitions. The Rise of Silas Lapham by William Dean Howells Essay The Rise of Silas Lapham by William Dean Howells In the novel, The Rise of Silas Lapham, William Dean Howells makes a particular point about the morals of an individual in the business world. His point is that an individual, such as Silas, must check their morals at the door if they have any plans to make it in the business world. The novel has always been popular, partly because it presents Lapham s financial and social failure as consciously and deliberately chosen when he has to decide whether he shall cheat and stay on top in business or tell the truth and fail irrecoverably (Gibson 283). Obviously the pressures of big business would be much tougher to deal with in a big city, like Boston, than in a small rural farm town, because the competition to be the best is much greater in the urban areas. The time period in which the story is set, the late 1800 s, is also a crucial part of the puzzle. All throughout the early 1800 s up until the present, big business has been on the rise. When large companies started setting up in cities, people moved to where the jobs were, and soon small towns became gigantic urban metropolises. The big business is what ultimately causes Silas moral rise and financial fall, and that is a crucial part of the plot. If the story where set in a different time period it would not have as big an impact. Also during the late 1800 s, social standing was very important. In those days a person was measured by their social standing, so it meant everything. The reason this is important is because, interwoven in the main plot is a secondary plot. This secondary plot has to do with the love triangle between Penelope Lapham, Irene Lapham, and Tom Corey. Everyone seems to think that Tom and Irene are in love with each other, while in actuality it is Tom and Penelope that are in love. In the course of globalization, there is a trend for legal systems in common law jurisdiction and civil law jurisdiction to learn and absorb the advantages from each other. In general, common law countries now have more codifications of statutes than before whereas civil law countries have become more active in promoting the use of precedents. According to Black s Law Dictionary (1990), a precedent is an adjudged case or decision of a court which is regarded as an example or authority for a subsequent case or a latter question of law on identical or similar issues. However, this has not clearly explained how the precedent regime used in common law jurisdiction is different from one that a state from statute law jurisdiction may use. As Goodhart points out, the real differences in the two systems are the binding effect of decided cases (Doctrine of Precedent). It would be too complex to explain the whole rule of binding precedent here and, for the sake of the latter discussion, we only need to know one aspect: while precedent cases create no legal obligation for a civil law judge to follow, a judge from common law countries is obligated to follow a precedent judgment and the legal reasoning in it made by a superior court or a court in the same level if a subsequence case contains identical facts and issues. Based on this difference, some observers claim that China does not have a formal binding precedent system and also denies the value of the established precedent regime in current China. Through passive monitoring, PVS can reveal devices and software on the network that are not authorized, or that may indicate a network compromise. 9. Are open ports necessarily a risk? Why or why not? They are a risk because a trojan can be used to transmit data to an attacker. They hold a port open, e.g. Port 31337. The attacker connects to the trojan and sends requests to do a certain task, for example to make a screenshot. The trojan makes the screenshot and sends the image via the port to the attacker. On newer trojans, the port number is quite freely configurable, which makes identifying the trojan by the port number difficult. There are no control mechanisms available which can prevent a trojan from using an specific port. If a trojan does use the port 80, for instance, a novice user could imagine the program is a webserver, and may even simply ignore the port. 10. New Zealand introduced a tax based financing health care system in 1947 (Cumming et al, 2013) and Singapore had a similar system after its independence in 1965 (Haseltine, 2013). Due to the increasing pressure on public spending in financing health care, both countries have introduced health care reforms since the 1970s to ease the pressure (Li, 2006). New Zealand has experienced a series of reforms which represented a major restructuring of the health system. The reforms have led to the creation of a devolved health care system that uses available health care resources efficiently (Cumming et al, 2013). In contrast, the Singaporean government overhauled the whole system by removing the tax based financing system and adopted the medical savings account system called the Medisave in 1984 (Haseltine, 2013). Under the Medisave system, health care is mainly funded by private financing, which requires each person to make savings in an individual account just for health care spending. In both countries, health related policies are formulated by the Ministry of Health. It also supports the government in setting the health policy agenda, service requirements for the health system, and the annual publicly funded health budget. Figurative Language In Dylan Thomas Since my childhood I have never really been a fan of reading books, nevertheless, took the time to analyze certain passages or readings in order to find the deeper meaning behind them. I have always been a fan of music and understood lyrics; however, poetry is a step further in comprehension. Since we studied Dylan Thomas as a class, I have found interest in his use of figurative language and his approach to go against the grain with masterful imagery. He expands on this by stating, Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright / Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay (1433). Thomas claims that this generation or wave of good men will be upset that their legacies and contributions won t be remembered. It s a feeling of sympathy for these good men as a lot of times it s the little things in life we accomplish that gets overlooked. I draw similarities from the word wave in the context. To me, the wave can represent life as it slowly builds and grows to its peak then comes crashing down only to disperse just like the direction of the human life as we age. As much as Thomas writing sounds to be directed to someone at this point, I believe these two lines represent him in a way before he died, like the good men he speaks of, he may have thought his deeds to poetry may be meaningless and forgotten someday not knowing how big of an impact it has today. Following this, Thomas contrasts the good men by saying, Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight / And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way (1433). My interpretation of this is Thomas is trying to be fair by recognizing the good man and the wild man, why? Spurning the expectations of bold reforms, Botha projected himself as the uncompromising leader of a white minority determined to fight to the end for its survival. • 22. The Crucible Paranoia Analysis What do you think of when you hear the word mass hysteria? In the Crucible, a play written by Arthur Miller, is both an allegory and tragedy where the Puritan society of Salem is attacked with the hysteria of witchcraft. It all started with five young girls of the Salem society caught dancing naked around a bonfire. This practice is viewed upon by the Puritans as the task of the devil. In the beginning of the play, there was controversy about ownership of land between some of the villagers. Later in the story, people feared for their own safety and begin pointing fingers and accusing their neighbors of witchcraft in order to escape being hanged. This caused the society to get more and more separated as time went on. This emphasizes the idea of how fear and suspicion can destroy a society due to accusations, roundups, and forced confessions. Miller captures the evil of paranoia and fear in his play through emotions by letting them shine through his characters to make the audience feel the tension, the angst and the desperation throughout the play. Arthur Miller includes a large number of logical fallacies such as scare tactic and slippery slope in order to emphasize the evil or paranoia and fear in his play through emotions of the characters. Miller exemplifies scare tactic when Abigail says ... So what is hacking? The term hacking was first promoted by the famous MIT between 1950s and 1960s. It all started as a fun experiment in a lab, but it led to something completely different today.
