Radio began in the 1920s in the UK with the BBC (British Broadcasting Company) as the first and only station due to limited technology. Over time, the BBC expanded to include additional stations like BBC Radio 1, 2, 3 and 4. Now, technology has advanced so the BBC and other radio stations can be accessed online, on phones, TV, and more. The radio industry is now highly fragmented with many station options beyond traditional FM broadcasts.

Radio is a way of broadcasting fresh daily
news, to make everyone become aware of
day to day situations that may be
happening in their local area, or globally.
Radio can also be used to broadcast
music, weather, adverts and to raise
awareness or money.

3. WHEN DID RADIO BEGIN?
Radio began in the 1920's in the UK by the BBC (British
Broadcasting Company).
The BBC is a PSB (Public Service Broadcaster), When the BBC first
started up, it had one station and was a Regional station. This is
because they did not have the technology to expand to a
national radio station. They developed throughout time and
created 2 more radio stations, they were called:
• The service
• The light service.

In the 1960's things were optimistic and
there was the start of music and teenagers
who spent their teenage years listening to
music. This is when something called the
'Pirate' radio stations started up.
Throughout the 1970's the BBC expanded,
they introduced a new BBC radio stations
such as BBC radio One, BBC radio Two,
Three and Four.

Now technology has expanded, the BBC have
now introduced more and more radio stations;
you can now access these radio stations and
other radio stations online, on your phone and
on the T.V as well as on the radio itself. The
radio has become a very fragmented radio
industry, it has changed so much that they're
now radio stations that don't even flow in the
FM stream such as Apple radio.
