2. History
• The history of broadcasting began with early
radio transmissions which only carried the dots
and dashes of wireless telegraphy. The history of
radio broadcasting (from 1905-1906,
commercially around 1920-21) starts with audio
broadcasting services which are broadcast as
radio waves from a transmitter to an antenna and
then to a receiving device. Stations can be linked
in radio networks to broadcast common
programming.
3. History
• The early uses of the radio were for keeping
contact between ships out a sea. However, this
initial radio was unable to transmit speech, and
instead sent Morse code messages between the
ships. During time of distress, a sinking ship
would use a radio messaged nearby vessels and
stations on the land to ask for aid.

8. Reason for choice…
• We have chosen to use BBC Radio 2 for our
broadcasted radio edit because of the format
they have of infotainment.
• Their target audience is typical middle aged as
well as some younger audiences. This fits in well
with what we wanted for our documentary.
• The documentary could be played during the
breaks of music or during a break from some
form of infotainment which are examples of types
of media that provide both entertainment and
facts.
