2. In what ways does your media
product use, develop and
challenge forms and conventions
of real media products?
3. Introduction
To start of this task of conventions of a radio bulletin we made a
spider diagram of what radio bulletins would include for example:
music, adverts, interviews, etc but the main focus is news. Over the
weeks we have learnt different key features that a radio bulletin
contains e.g. different types of audio (cue and clip, cue and voicer,
etc). When researching other radio stations we made sure they had the
same target audience as us so we could compare and use these current
radio stations as inspiration for example a radio station that we
researched was BBC radio 1.
However as a task we were given a radios station to research in our
groups, our group got given Sam FM to research but still contributes
to our research as this is one of the popular radio stations that our
target audience like listening too.
4. Research
In our research of news bulletins we found that the majority of radio stations today use jingles to
start off their news bulletins and acts as a warning signal to say the news is about to start we made
sure to add this into our news bulletin as this is an important feature to consider it also makes our
target audience aware of the upcoming news bulletin. Along with several stabs to highlight the
stories being read as well as a bed to show the target audience the pace of the news stories being
read.
A convention we could not leave out is the types of audio's within our stories we tried to use as
many as possible in our news bulletin and script to show we understand each one.
5. The making…
In the making of our radio news bulletin the conventions were a key feature in our news stories. For example in our scripting power
point story 3 is a copy story a radio station tends to have at least one of these in their news bulletins. This also tends to be a quick
summary without any audio and shows it is not as important, we took this into consideration as our target audience would like a quick
and less depressing news story as possible.
Our news bulletin included 7 stories in our scripting power point, however, we could not find story 5 (dual carriageway incident) saved
onto our computer and ran out of time to recreate it and add it into our final news bulletin. We now have 6 stories 4 being hard news and
2 being soft news however we have kept the same order.
