Background Knowledge BBC Channels<br />Myself and Lewis have chosen to broadcast our documentary on one of the BBC channels.<br />The BBC is the largest broadcaster in the world, with about 23,000 staff.<br />BBC 1 is still the UK’s most watched channel, and therefore being able to broadcast on such a channel will be tough.<br />BBC One has continued to grow in 2010, reaching 44.6 million people each week, up from 44m last year.<br />BBC Two share remains ahead of its main competitors in peak hours.<br />
  3. 3. BBC TWO<br />It’s easily noticeable threw BBC One that the programmes which come on are of those which a broad target audience can relate to. Take Eastenders for example over 20million watch that TV drama. For a low budget documentary such as ours it’s highly unlikely make the number 1 channel, and therefore our intentions turn towards BBC 2.<br />BBC 2 on the other hand has shown to feature lucky few documentaries. Between 20:00 and 21:00 a factual programme comes on whether it be a documentary or a history programme. There are more opportunities for documentaries on BBC 2 take On Thin Ice for example it was a series involving a personal experience as individuals went to walk to the south pole. It came on around about 20:00, even though it featured well known characters, it’s the sought of programme that isn’t appealing to all and therefore was placed on BBC 2 and not BBC 1.<br />The Demographics' for BBC 1 and 2 are near enough the same, they target everyday working people with national average incomes.<br />

BBC 3<br />BBC 3 is much less budgeted compared to the other 2 channel’s, BBC 3 target’s a more young youthful audience. <br />Programmes such as Family Guy and American Dad tend to come on this channel. Documentaries tend to feature more around 19:30 to 20:30 time, theses are more low budgeted and target only a specific niche audience. Comparing BBC 2 and BBC 3 is that the only difference is that one appeals to a larger audience and is more largely budgeted.<br />BBC 2 and 3 will compete with the like of ITV 2 and 3 as they also show documentaries around the same time. <br />So I would have thought that our documentary would end up on a BBC 2 channel, because it targets an upcoming event which appeals to a large audience, however it uses a youthful cast.<br />
