2. INTRODUCTION…
During our Media Studies lessons we have started to research
different radio stations and their target audiences. The idea of
thie radio station I am researching is to see the type of things
they broadcast.
In our groups we got given the radio station ‘Sam FM’, we weren't
able to find out a lot about this radio station as it’s a fairly new
radio station.
3. HISTORY OF SAM FM
Sam FM’s radio station was originally launched up in 2006 as a radio station called
‘106 Solent’ – that was owned by a company called ‘Canwest’ who then sold to
another company called ‘celador’ in 2008, during late August.
October 2008, RAJAR results were increased weekly with a total around 115, 000 by
Q1 in the beginning of 2011.
The company Celador decided to rebrand the radio station from ‘SAM FM’ to ‘Jack
FM’ during the beginning of July 2011.
As the station launched as Jack FM, all presenters were removed from the radio
station and new presenters were introduced.
4. SAM FM NOW
On April the 1st 2015, the radio station was then
rebranded back to Sam which runs with a strapline
“we’re in charge”, this means that they’re in charge
of all music and don’t take requests from the public.
