Jude McMichan
Research
• I took lots of research from current best selling games that linked in closely to the idea of mine. I did this
by breaking down some of the most important features it included and taking a deep analysis.
• Doing so helped me when it came to my final production as I tried to include these features myself to
make it look professional. These features included soundtracks, audience interaction and licensing.
• I used a soundtrack that linked in with the best voted songs on FIFA 18, whilst also creating an audience
that clearly moved positions after a goal or opportunity. Finally I also created a pixelated Lionel Messi as
he’s currently the biggest football star on the planet.
• However I also looked at the reviews for some of these games so I knew what NOT to include as it was
clear that the fans didn’t like certain features.
• These features included the game duration time. Many FIFA 18 players such as myself agree that some
games can really drag on, especially when playing against the computer. So it was very important that I
made the game short enough for people to appreciate but not get bored of too soon.
• Overall I was very happy with the research I conducted as I think it made me feel a lot more comfortable
when it came to my final production, how ever it also had it’s weaknesses as there was lots of research
that I took which I already knew as I already play the game, but I still had to store it on my PowerPoint as
proof of conducted research.
Planning
• I’ve previously done 3 weeks of planning in preparation for my final production which was completed last
week.
• I used my the 3 weeks very wisely and made several different Power points which included lots of
information on what I intended to include in my work and also new features that I have learnt in the
gaming world.
• The planning took place through the use of initial plans, taking case studies and also taking experiments.
• I believe my planning was very successful as it helped me prepare for my final production, whilst it also
helped me learn lots of new features going forwards into the future.
• However to improve my planning in the future I would like to be a little more productive as I can easily
loose focus when typing up all day, whilst it would help me become more familiar with Photoshop and
Premiere.

planning process for my game.
Time Management
• Time management is very important when it come to short rotations because we have 5
weeks to complete several tasks and if you fall behind you lose track with everyone else in
the class. However, I ensured that I didn’t rush myself whilst doing my work and told myself
on track – which luckily I was.
• Overall it was quite easy to keep on track because we were mostly completing theory work,
which has no possible room for error as it is my own opinion.
• I did complete my project in time as all the production work was completed on the Friday of
the 4th week, which gave me all of this week to ensure I complete my evaluation.
• If I had more time to complete my production work, I believe I would’ve made my game
duration 5-10 seconds longer by possibly adding an extra goal. I also might have possibly
added an extra cut scene on my finishing screen to influence my audience. But overall I am
very happy with what I completed in the duration of time I had .
Technical Qualities
• A game that inspired me very much in the process of creating my game was Soccer Heads. Soccer
Heads is a game that can be accessed through Mini Clip and has been available to play for several
years now.
• The game is produced through the use of basic pixel art and includes very simple gameplay, but still
attracted gamers from all over the world.
• So now that my game is completed I will be comparing the similarities between my game an Soccer
Heads.
• The first very noticeable similarity that can be seen in both games is that both players don’t have
bodies, this could be used as a form of humor, or simply because the design looks better without a
body. However, the reason I chose not to use bodies was because I believe I didn’t have enough
time to complete a walk cycle for my footballers in the duration of time I had, however I am still
very happy with my finishing production.
• However there is some differences between my game and soccer heads. The first noticeable
difference being the menu and finishing screen which has a completely different design in
comparison to Soccer Heads. The reason I chose to do a different layout was because our gameplay
was very similar so I needed to ensure that our options screens were different.
Game Comparisons
In the first two photos we can see a photo of my gameplay (left) and a picture of Soccer Heads gameplay (right).
As you can see the photos are very similar. This can be noticed when looking at the players on both pictures and
by also looking at the perspective of both games.
In the second photo we can see two photos of of the menu screen on both games. Ass we can see, mine (Left) looks
very simple and doesn’t have as many options as Soccer Heads (right). This was due to the time that we had available
which made it very hard for me to apply different options on the menu screen.
Aesthetic Qualities
• Overall I am very happy with the work I produced in the time that was available to me.
• After looking through everything I said I would like to apply in my final production, I believe I
applied as much as I could possibly apply.
• Something I am very happy with is the production of my players. The players that I applied in my
game were Lionel Messi and Paul Pogba. After asking several people who they think they are
they all answered correctly, which shows that they must look similar to the players themselves.
• However one aspect of my game that I am disappointed on is the how the gameplay finishes, as
the score line is 1-1 where I would preferably liked someone to have won, but this would of
meant creating another goal on my timeline which I simply didn’t have time for.
• Another weakness that I would like to change in the future is same of the audio. Once the goals
went in it wasn’t clear that they scored when listening to the audience, however I did apply a
large piece of text that said ‘GOAL’ to make it clear that they scored.
Audience Appeal
• I believe with the features I have included in my game I have appealed my game to an audience of people who
would play games such as FIFA 18 and Soccer Heads.
• The reason behind this being because Soccer Heads are yet to update their player faces whereas I have the
current player faces of some of the biggest players in the game.
• When taking a look back at my questionnaire which was completed by several class mates, this makes me
believe that my game will very appeal to them.
• A big factor in my questionnaire was what music I would be applying. I believe a really rose to the occasion
whilst creating my music on Garage Band as it was very catchy and had a fast pace to it. Also I mixed a bass and
drum together which were the two options my answers gave me on my questionnaire.
• Both answers in my questionnaire also agreed on the possibility of using current or ex footballers which I also
applied in my game. This was very important because they both said this would be a factor of persuasion when
asked to play the game.

8. evaluation

  • 2. Research • I took lots of research from current best selling games that linked in closely to the idea of mine. I did this by breaking down some of the most important features it included and taking a deep analysis. • Doing so helped me when it came to my final production as I tried to include these features myself to make it look professional. These features included soundtracks, audience interaction and licensing. • I used a soundtrack that linked in with the best voted songs on FIFA 18, whilst also creating an audience that clearly moved positions after a goal or opportunity. Finally I also created a pixelated Lionel Messi as he’s currently the biggest football star on the planet. • However I also looked at the reviews for some of these games so I knew what NOT to include as it was clear that the fans didn’t like certain features. • These features included the game duration time. Many FIFA 18 players such as myself agree that some games can really drag on, especially when playing against the computer. So it was very important that I made the game short enough for people to appreciate but not get bored of too soon. • Overall I was very happy with the research I conducted as I think it made me feel a lot more comfortable when it came to my final production, how ever it also had it’s weaknesses as there was lots of research that I took which I already knew as I already play the game, but I still had to store it on my PowerPoint as proof of conducted research.
  • 3. Planning • I’ve previously done 3 weeks of planning in preparation for my final production which was completed last week. • I used my the 3 weeks very wisely and made several different Power points which included lots of information on what I intended to include in my work and also new features that I have learnt in the gaming world. • The planning took place through the use of initial plans, taking case studies and also taking experiments. • I believe my planning was very successful as it helped me prepare for my final production, whilst it also helped me learn lots of new features going forwards into the future. • However to improve my planning in the future I would like to be a little more productive as I can easily loose focus when typing up all day, whilst it would help me become more familiar with Photoshop and Premiere. Here is a list of the Power points I completed during the planning process for my game.
  • 4. Time Management • Time management is very important when it come to short rotations because we have 5 weeks to complete several tasks and if you fall behind you lose track with everyone else in the class. However, I ensured that I didn’t rush myself whilst doing my work and told myself on track – which luckily I was. • Overall it was quite easy to keep on track because we were mostly completing theory work, which has no possible room for error as it is my own opinion. • I did complete my project in time as all the production work was completed on the Friday of the 4th week, which gave me all of this week to ensure I complete my evaluation. • If I had more time to complete my production work, I believe I would’ve made my game duration 5-10 seconds longer by possibly adding an extra goal. I also might have possibly added an extra cut scene on my finishing screen to influence my audience. But overall I am very happy with what I completed in the duration of time I had .
  • 5. Technical Qualities • A game that inspired me very much in the process of creating my game was Soccer Heads. Soccer Heads is a game that can be accessed through Mini Clip and has been available to play for several years now. • The game is produced through the use of basic pixel art and includes very simple gameplay, but still attracted gamers from all over the world. • So now that my game is completed I will be comparing the similarities between my game an Soccer Heads. • The first very noticeable similarity that can be seen in both games is that both players don’t have bodies, this could be used as a form of humor, or simply because the design looks better without a body. However, the reason I chose not to use bodies was because I believe I didn’t have enough time to complete a walk cycle for my footballers in the duration of time I had, however I am still very happy with my finishing production. • However there is some differences between my game and soccer heads. The first noticeable difference being the menu and finishing screen which has a completely different design in comparison to Soccer Heads. The reason I chose to do a different layout was because our gameplay was very similar so I needed to ensure that our options screens were different.
  • 6. Game Comparisons In the first two photos we can see a photo of my gameplay (left) and a picture of Soccer Heads gameplay (right). As you can see the photos are very similar. This can be noticed when looking at the players on both pictures and by also looking at the perspective of both games. In the second photo we can see two photos of of the menu screen on both games. Ass we can see, mine (Left) looks very simple and doesn’t have as many options as Soccer Heads (right). This was due to the time that we had available which made it very hard for me to apply different options on the menu screen.
  • 7. Aesthetic Qualities • Overall I am very happy with the work I produced in the time that was available to me. • After looking through everything I said I would like to apply in my final production, I believe I applied as much as I could possibly apply. • Something I am very happy with is the production of my players. The players that I applied in my game were Lionel Messi and Paul Pogba. After asking several people who they think they are they all answered correctly, which shows that they must look similar to the players themselves. • However one aspect of my game that I am disappointed on is the how the gameplay finishes, as the score line is 1-1 where I would preferably liked someone to have won, but this would of meant creating another goal on my timeline which I simply didn’t have time for. • Another weakness that I would like to change in the future is same of the audio. Once the goals went in it wasn’t clear that they scored when listening to the audience, however I did apply a large piece of text that said ‘GOAL’ to make it clear that they scored.
  • 8. Audience Appeal • I believe with the features I have included in my game I have appealed my game to an audience of people who would play games such as FIFA 18 and Soccer Heads. • The reason behind this being because Soccer Heads are yet to update their player faces whereas I have the current player faces of some of the biggest players in the game. • When taking a look back at my questionnaire which was completed by several class mates, this makes me believe that my game will very appeal to them. • A big factor in my questionnaire was what music I would be applying. I believe a really rose to the occasion whilst creating my music on Garage Band as it was very catchy and had a fast pace to it. Also I mixed a bass and drum together which were the two options my answers gave me on my questionnaire. • Both answers in my questionnaire also agreed on the possibility of using current or ex footballers which I also applied in my game. This was very important because they both said this would be a factor of persuasion when asked to play the game.
