The student created a horror film trailer that featured a zombie serial killer. Their research involved exploring existing horror films for inspiration and conducting a survey of their target audience to learn what they wanted to see. Feedback noted that the glitch effect, music, and colors fit the horror genre well but more varied footage was needed. The student agreed more footage was needed but disagreed that a single consistent color scheme works better than using different colors to set different moods.

3. Research
I think my research was effective as all the products I researched for inspiration
liked together with what I wanted to do as my trailer was reversed parts in scenes
and the films I researched were about the concept of time.
I put scenes which were the same but in different parts inbetween, other scenes
which made it look reversed and it was going back in different clips to keep the
viewers on the edge of their seats.
My trailer also involved a serial killer person which was the zombie killing his
enemies which my audience I targeted wanted to see in my trailer. As well as that,
the music I used was dark , high-pitched, opera style of music which my audience
would be attracted to which show they like the fast suspenseful music as it keeps
them intrigued and wanting to watch more.
One thing which I lacked was production experiments and experimenting
beforehand with different techniques and ways to create a top horror film.
Although the techniques I researched from the movie Tenet, I put in my
researched and talked about what techniques were used in the film and how it
would work for my film
4. Research
In the first section of research I explored different existing products of horror
films and took ideas from which I could use and implement into my work for
my trailer. For example, I researched the movie Saw and took the idea of
torture and people suffering because of past crimes they have committed and
got away with it. But as it was time consuming I feel I could have done more
research on other things to make my trailer better but I had no time.
As well as that, the next part of the research section was audience research.
This was good as I could find out exactly what my audience would like to see
in my horror film as then I can make the film trailer to be linked with the way
they want it to be as they are the consumers of the product. I created a
survey of questions for my classmates who answered them all and this was
where I found my answers of what my audience would like to see happen and
be involved in a horror film trailer which I took on board most information
and implemented into my work.
5. Planning
I made a poster on Photoshop which had a dark, haunted vibe to it as I made
the background a misty purple to give it a haunted look to it. I got a picture of a
moon which I drew on photoshop and I used the magic tool to create a misty
purple effect , this made my background have the cadey, horor feel for the
audience. I used the colour purple as it is dark and mysterious which connects
with the what the film trailer is about and as if something unusual will happen.
Then, I made a ground for the floor so my graveyard headstone would sit on
top of this and I had a zombie hand coming out of it which is the zombie
coming back alive. I edited the hand dark and rough so it looks like a horror
zombie hand sticking out to link with my synopsis of the film.
6. Time Management
I did well in terms of time as the planning and pre – production was
completed in good time and I hadevrything done at a reasonable time. I could
have done more work on days to get my final product complete in a better
time schedule as I did fall back in the last few weeks and to do some of my
final piece for the trailer very quick and I rushed this a bit but it came out
good. Ifi had more time I think I could have had more footage to use as most
of the shots were repetitive. On the other hand however, I used some time
well as I switch things around and made different parts pop up in different
parts of the film so it comes up more than once and also chopped up parts to
give it a faster pce to the trailer making it less boring. I also added a haunted
backtrack which fitted perfectly with my footage and also had little snipets of
sounds and talking in beteewn to get a narrative of the film and a feel of what
the movie will be like.
7. Technical Qualities/issues
The best technical quality I used was making a glitchy effect at the beginng
which gave it that horror unknown feel as to why it is glitchy and will
something unusual happen in the trailer. As well as that, some of the footage
which I filmed was too dark, this made it hard to use as it wasn’t clear to see
the shots and s cenes of what was happening in them. I had to do edit some
parts of the film again as I accidently didn’t save it priperly and when I came
back to it some parts which I edited went back to normal and needed fixing.
As well as that, some parts were good as I had good shots and cut up shots
at parts to make it glitch and interesting. Also, the titles which I used were
blood dripping which gave it a horror feel right from the beginng and this
makes the viewers attracted to the film and makes them carry on wanting
more.
8. Aesthetic Qualities
I kept an overall style throught the trailer, using the horror, dripping blood
style text and the ancient roman text which gave it the old scholl haunted
type of feel you want to get from horror movies. Also, the transition of shots
worked very well and gelled together as it was a understanding narrative
and follows of shots as everythig linked together and gave the viewer a
snipet of the story to understand what is going on in my film .
The background music and sounds helped as it worked and flowed perfectly
with the shots and footage which gave each scene in the trailer its own
sound and the fast parts got the eery, high-pitched music and then the slow
parts had the slowed down less upbeat sounds to it which fit perfectly and it
gave a good vibe for the audience the wholeway through the trailer.
9. Audience Appeal
My product appealed to my audience as it was different and also had the
zombie coming back alive which people like about horror films. As well as
that, people wanted eery music and dark footage of zombies and old places
where shots would be. This worked well for me as York is old and ancient and
I had lots of footage of zombies through the city centre. As well as that, the
colours are dark but also vibrant in sections to catch peopels eyes an my
audience like parts of horror films where it is light when there is a good
situationa but is dark when it is bad and there is violenece.
11. Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
George Paviour
– Very creative colourway, that fits with the horror
theme. Also, the glitch effect was very cool and it
made the trailer more eye-catching and haunting.
The sound also built up speed and suspense.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
More shots and footage to use from as there was a lot
of similar shots which were used for the trailer.
12. Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
Antony Sibanda
– One thing i really liked in the trailer was the variety in
speed as with the soundtrack built suspense.
– What improvements could have been made to the
product?
One thing which i would change for next time would be
to keep a consistent colour scheme in red as some of
the colours didn't give off the correct tone of the trailer.
Good job though i liked it
13. Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
Stephen Royle
– I liked the post production colour work and how
it conveys the horror genre. I also liked the sound
effects and soundtrack that builds suspense.
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– One thing you could improve would be getting
more of a variety of shots and develop the story a
bit more
14. Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer feedback? I
agree that the speed of the background track and
sound effects build suspense in the trailer and also
getting more variety of footage to use.
• What do you disagree with from your peer feedback? I
disagree that I should have kept a consistent colourway
as I used different colours to give different vibes in
scenarios as some were different and the dark coours
were for the dark , scary moments and the lighter ones
was for the surrounding shots.
15. Peer Feedback Summary
As a whole the main point I would take from the
feedback was the lack of footage which I know I
didn’t do enough of as most of the shots were
similar which would make the audience a bit bored
of it. But however, I feel the colourway was spot on
and I used doifeerent colours to give different feels
for the film at certain points of the trailer. But , I
do agree that I could have got a more different
variety of footage to use so it would be more
interesting and fun to watch as most of the clips
have the same footage throughout.
