New Social Movement Essay
Social movements have become an important aspect of life to attempt to improve the world around us,
and to project highly supported ideas such as things like animal rights, gay rights, climate change,
black lives matter, and working class movements such as the equal pay movement. Social movements
such as these are the key actors within our societies that challenge the higher powers to create or to
start to create a change worldwide. One paradigm that has arisen within the realm of sociology is the
NSM, which is the new social movement s paradigm. The European new social movement studies
(NSM) is a critical approach within the study of social movements, which stresses the elements of
both macrohistorical and microhistorical theories of social movements (Pichardo, N. A., 1997).
Secondly, it explores the extreme change within European/Western societies when it comes to the
reasoning of social movements in the post industrial era. These reasoning s are the shift that began
during the 1960 s between being mainly political reasoning to becoming more human rights focused .
This essay will give an evaluation of the new social movement theory (NSW) approach to social
movements, some main theorists within the field and will lastly, touch upon how this certain approach
relates to the state.
The pioneer of this certain social movement theory was a French sociologist named Alain Touraine,
who is also well known for using the term post industrial society originally, Touraine was

Controlled Content Distribution For Peer Networks
CONTROLLED CONTENT DISTRIBUTION IN PEER TO PEER NETWORKS
Amna Qureshi
Controlled Content Distribution in Peer to Peer Networks
Research Problem:
Centralized fingerprinting mechanism has an encumbrance of computational overheads and high
communication bandwidth costs. Central repository of authenticating data has also raised concerns
over the loss of privacy and potential misuse of biometric data. For instance, biometric data stored at a
central repository can be used to track individuals by checking where they visit or shop. This
centralization, when compromised, may lead to data being used for unintended purposes like
searching private information using latent fingerprints, revelation of certain health problems that may
lead to discrimination among peers, etc.
Objectives:
To develop a multicast approach to the anonymous fingerprinting problem. This will reduce
computational overheads and high communication bandwidth costs that characterize anonymous
fingerprinting.
To ensure privacy in Controlled Content Distribution in Peer to Peer Networks through the use of
advanced cryptography features of group signatures.
To provide a straightforward alternative to the conventional broadcast transmission that precludes
fingerprinting the copy obtained by each receiver.
To make data privacy a striking feature in peer to peer applications.
To achieve security and scalability in content distribution.
To provide a fingerprinting scheme that is not susceptible to

Nicholas II was born on May 6th, 1868 in Pushkin, Russia. He was born Nikolai Aleksandrovich

Rasputin would cause the Russia people to doubt the Tsar and one of the reasons why the royal family

The worst thing that happened during Nicholas rule that led to the end of the monarchy was Bloody

Petersburg protested about the working conditions and for the establishment of a popular assembly.
Those protestors we fired upon and many were killed.
Nicholas was the forced to create an elected legislature. It was called DUMA. Nicholas still resisted

stepping tests, see Step Tests.
 Purpose: To test fitness parameters during a standard swimming.
 Equipment required: a swimming pool (25m or 50m), pool pace clock, stopwatch, equipment for
blood lactate testing, heart rate monitor.
 Procedure: All 200m swims are conducted at an even pace (even 50m splits), on 6 minutes (starting
every new set exactly six minutes after the start of the previous one). The test is conducted using the
swimmer s specialist stroke (ie freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke). The swimming target time for each
swimmer is based on age or intensity. For seniors, the last 200m is swum at maximum heart rate, and
each 200m preceding this is at 10 bpm below the one before. For young age groupers, each swim is
related to their personal best (PB), such that (for males): 1st 200m = PB +24 secs, 2nd 200m = PB +20
secs, 3rd 200m = PB +16 secs, 4th 200m = PB +12 secs, 5th 200m = PB + 8 secs, 6th 200m = PB

The Case That Moved America
Working Title: The case that moved America Any child denied entry to any school due to their
ethnicity is automatically put at a disadvantage compared to other children. This case was originally
five different cases in different parts of the United States. These cases were all compounded into one
when appealed to the Supreme Court. Brown v. Board is the most historical revolutionary Civil Rights
case due to it forever changing the manner in which different races in America interact with each
other. Children segregated from other children because of their skin color not only causes them to be
more insecure, but it also causes a large knowledge gap between the segregated parties. Children who
are separated from others because of their skin color grow to develop their own insecurities and
diffidence. After reviewing psychological studies showing black girls in segregated schools had low
racial self esteem, the Court concluded that separating children on the basis of race creates dangerous
inferiority complexes that may adversely affect black children s ability to learn (PBS). Races being
divided by these social barriers create a disparity between them. It is unequal for children of different
races to be separated. Equal education is required in order to give all children an equal chance at
success and making differences. Public education in the 20th century, said the Court, had become an
essential component of a citizen s public life, forming the basis of democratic

Stem Cell Essay
The logical history of foundational microorganism may be explored as it has unfolded in the course of
recent years; and after this, it will swing to a thought of the political history of undifferentiated
organism look into. There has been a relentless pattern of researchers progressively taking in the
privileged insights of stem cells and having the capacity to apply their new learning to either look into
potential medications or really convey powerful medicines to people. In 2001, Bush issued an official
request that put huge limitations on government financing for undeveloped cell look into; and in 2009,
Obama canceled this request with his very own request called Removing Barriers to Responsible

Embryonic stem cells are pluripotent, meaning they are able to grow (i.e. differentiate) into all
derivatives of the three primary germ layers: ectoderm, endoderm and mesoderm. In other words, they
can develop into each of the more than 200 cell types of the adult body as long as they are specified to
do so. Embryonic stem cells are distinguished by two distinctive properties: their pluripotency, and
their ability to replicate indefinitely. ES cells are pluripotent, that is, they are able to differentiate into
all derivatives of the three primary germ layers: ectoderm, endoderm, and mesoderm (Science Daily).
Amongst grown up and embryonic undifferentiated cells, obviously embryonic undeveloped cell look

Legal Aspects of DNA Testing and the Scientific Expert in Court
DNA testing like many other tools in forensics to identify suspects has been through various
evaluations to uncover its validity. These evaluations are necessary because the results of DNA testing
can help to exclude, include, and can even be used to convict suspects. The weight of DNA testing is
heavy in that can be used to alter a person s life forever, hence, the legal movements for it to be
validated. Some believed that the admissibility of DNA testing into the courts would violate privacy
rights or could alert criminals to the evidence that could be left behind when they commit a crime. The
arguments that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The proper training certificates, proficiency test results, curriculum vitae, employment history are
some of the documents the courts use to qualify someone as a Scientific Expert. Through the
education and experience they receive, a scientific expert should be able to explain and teach both
lawyers and jurors how DNA testing work and how they were able to arrive at their results and
conclusions. Their explanations and teachings may involve the use of presentations, literary
references, and even scenarios that would help to view the advantages of evidence in every aspect
without bias.
One reason for exploring and determining the legal aspects of DNA testing is that there are so many
factors involved. From sample collection to analyzing results, every step in processing must be
handled with the greatest of care. Because DNA testing is now something that is looked for by jurors,
the defense attorneys will go through every process used to make sure that proper procedures were
followed and that there are no bias elements involved. For this reason, DNA testing procedures must
be documented. Notes should be taken before, and during processing. A chain of custody document
should also be used to keep an accurate log of the evidence.
All of the burdens involved in the legal aspects of DNA testing however, does not fall on the Scientific
Expert. The courts must also follow proper procedures to ensure a solid conviction. The proper
channels should be investigated

Stonehenge Research Papers
Mysterious Stonehenge The chosen research topic is Stonehenge. This topic was chosen, because
Stonehenge is very mysterious to mankind. It is also a very interesting topic, and it makes one want to
learn more about it. Stonehenge is considered strange and mysterious, because no one knows what is
the reasoning behind it and why it was built. Inquiring minds want to know how it became so famous.
How did stonehenge get its name? What is Stonehenge? What theories have been made about
Stonehenge? There are a lot of questions that one would like to be answered about it. Stonehenge is a
prehistoric monument northwest of Salisbury located in Wiltshire, England. It is a huge formation of
stones arranged in a circle, surrounded by an earthen embarkment which is also in a circular
formation.

one knows how they got there, or who brought them there and built Stonehenge. Mankind as a whole,
is still uncertain as to what Stonehenge really is. There are many unanswered questions on the
mysterious Stonehenge. Millions of people visit Stonehenge every year to see the wonderful site. I
think Stonehenge is a beautiful site full of mysteries. It would be a great place to visit someday. My
theory is that Stonehenge could have had something to do with multiple things. It could have been
used for multiple purposes. For example, it could have been used as a burial site, memorial,
astronomical clock, and place of worship all in one. Since, there is a little of evidence behind most of
the theories, Stonehenge could have been used for plenty of

The Issue Of Bargaining Over Position
Negotiation is part of everyday life, and we use it to get something that we want from other people.
The problem that Roger Fisher and William Ury refer to is the issue of bargaining over position. When
we argue over positions, it produces undesirable outcomes. In negotiations, people tend to pay
attention to the position, and not the underlying concerns of both parties. This is not only inefficient,
but it can also lead to strained relationships between two parties. Getting to Yes: Negotiating
Agreement Without Giving In by Fisher and Ury is a step by step guide to negotiating using a method
known as principled negotiations. In principled negotiation, you and the other party are seen as the
problem solvers rather than adversaries. The goal of principled negotiation is always to reach an
outcome efficiently and amicably.
The Method
Every negotiation will involve people, and Fisher and Ury make it very clear that people are not
perfect. While some may be good communicators, others may not be good listeners on the receiving
end. We have our own interests and goals, in which we tend to see from our point of view. According
to Fisher and Ury, the first step to a successful negotiation is to separate the people from the problem.
The most common human problem that we face tends to be perception, emotion and communication.
To prevent these problems from happening, the authors suggest that we build a working relationship
and focus on the problem itself, not the

distinguish the norm from the motives for conforming to it. First, a multiple motive conceptualization
allows researchers to explore conflict between motives for conforming to social norms. It is possible
that in many contexts people s motives for norm conformity may not be in agreement. By considering
self related, other related, and accuracy motives as separate constructs, researchers can investigate this
potential for conflict in future studies. In addition,

Black Tailed Prairie Dogs Case Study
Discussion on Black Tailed Prairie Dogs LRS Black tailed prairie dogs (Cynomys ludovicianus)
demonstrated an improved long term reproductive success until a disproportionate ratio of helpers to
breeders (exceeding amount of helpers to breeders) became injurious to the coterie. In addition, we
observed an increased aggression (25% increase) in coteries with more helpers present than smaller
ones. Lastly, we found that there was more communication within coteries that contained an average
helper pool size than in smaller and larger helper pool size coteries. These factors may have created
the results that we observe, such as less competition and how much helpers aid breeders. Less
Competition Our results suggest the improved long term reproductive success is due to the number of
helpers remaining relatively small. We suppose that having fewer helpers lowers the need for
completion and increases communication among individuals within the coteries between individuals.
Competition creates among individuals for resources and causes evolution, yet competition can be
harmful where too much exists. In brown capuchin monkeys, larger ... Show more content on

This indicates that when the helper to breeder ratio becomes too high, the coterie becomes too
competitive, thus lowering the black tailed prairie dogs long term reproductive success. From our
observations, prairie dogs seemed more disgruntled when there were more helpers, which may have
been instrumental in lowering the long term reproductive success. This disgruntled behavior, which is
a 25% increase in aggression, includes increased biting of other adults in addition to continual
collisions with other members within the coterie. There are two possibilities for this increased
aggression: used in a way to regulate how much helpers help or caused by year

On August 17, 2015, I had the opportunity to attend Fayetteville Technical Community College s

for these individuals, and guiding them to the main event location. In addition, other staff members
assisted with ensuring students and individuals within the community had appropriate directions to the
event. Customer service is an imperative part of any group, and there was a photo booth set up that
allowed participants the opportunity to receive a free portrait keychain that would assist as a discount
ticket when utilized at the Trojan Eatery. It was enjoyable watching the different dynamics that the
group had to offer, the culinary department served fruit, cake, and water free of charge, campus
security had the responsibility of ensuring the safety of the participants and providing directions,
students enjoyed the free food and taking portraits, and staff enjoyed the event as well.
Five Questions
After having the opportunity to complete my community group reflection visit, there were questions
that needed attention, those being:
1) Where were the contractors, interior designers, and architect? Why were they not included in the
opening of the Trojan Eatery? Were they not invited?
2) How effective has the opening of the Trojan Eatery been in assisting with providing a community
environment for students, faculty, staff, and the residing community?

Race Based On Physical Appearance
The concept of race as it is known today began innocently, as a useful point of comparison between
peoples based on physical appearance. Over time, the idea of color was corrupted by various ruling
classes, who discovered that this brand of disenfranchisement was useful to create and maintain an
exploitable lower class. What was once a descriptor was twisted into a tool of oppression, insidiously
folded into society through language, mythology, and the normalization of race based enslavement.
As society moved from interactions between local groups to travel and trade between countries and
continents, meaningful distinctions between peoples became less specific. While it was once useful to
refer to one s neighbors by their language or ethnic group, a broader world meant far too many
languages and ethnic groups for that categorization to be used. Categories grew, grouping people by
their religion, culture, broad geographical location and physical characteristics. One such
categorization was color. In some cases, color was entirely comparative, used not to define a group on
their own but rather with reference to another. Arabs in antiquity would describe themselves as black
when differentiating themselves from the brown Bedouins and the red Persians and Europeans, but
also describe themselves as being white or red in comparison to black Africans (lecture September
27). However, the concept of black as an intrinsic qualification emerged and gained traction in

Influence Of Slavery On American History
Influence of Slavery on American History
From the first 20 slaves brought to Jamestown in 1619, the abolishment of slavery through the 13th
amendment to the United States Constitution, slaves and slavery have played an important role in the
establishment and economic growth of the United States of America.
From its beginning, slavery has divided America on its pursuit of life, liberty and happiness.
Separating from its own oppressor on the words That all men are created equal, that they are endowed
by their Creator with certain unalienable rights... while still holding these same beliefs and rights from

The North profited from the sale of slaves as well as from the mass production of cotton and tobacco
that was grown in the south from the enslaved labor. Both of these crops had an unquenchable demand
with roaring profits both locally and when exported. When Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin, the
demand for cotton skyrocketed. Many southerners believed that the cotton enterprise depended on
more slave labor with bigger crops and more fertile land which pushed farmers to acquire more land.
Thus expanding the railroad to have more railroad mileage in place by 1860 than any region outside of
the northern United States.(Drescher)
With this lust for more land, opened the issue of whether new states would allow or disallow slavery.
This argument was tested each time new land was acquired, but it originated in 1820 with the
Missouri Compromise. Under the Missouri Compromise, Maine was to enter the union as a free state
while Missouri entered as a slave state. The reasoning behind this was that the balance would remain
equal between free and slave states, however, slavery was prohibited in all land lying above the 36, 30
latitude line. We must also look to the compromise of 1850 when California wanted to join the Union.
This compromise allowed California to enter as a free state, prohibited slave trade in Washington DC,
and also introduced a stricter fugitive slave law. Under this stricter law, citizens, whether

Images And Images Of Literature
Illustration is a popular aspect in literature, and can be found in all genres and forms. Although it is
sometimes more heavily associated with children s books such as illustrated stories, there are large
amounts of illustrated work that are designed specifically for an adult audience. Images and text both
convey meaning, but they can also compete with one another. Image and text can work to guide the
reader on a desired path of understanding, or they can complement each other and allow for a greater
understanding. There are a lot of examples of image and text working together, but the medium can be
very different. From statues and sculptures with text engraving, paintings inspired by text (or vice
versa), prose and verse and illustrations, this relationship is seen regularly in the Romantic Era. This
relationship between images and text can be quite complex. Although the use of text and image

Alexander The Great Accomplishments
Alexander the Great has many historical accomplishments during his reign from 336BCE 323 BCE.
During his lifetime, Alexander has completed many long conquests and gained victory in vital wars
which impacted the growth of his kingdom. His accomplishments also set a guide for the Hellenistic
empire that followed in the region after his death. Alexander the Great, is the son of the Macedonian
King Philip II. After King Philip II was assassinated in 336 BCE, Alexander quickly took the throne
when he was only 20 year old. Many Greeks revolted claiming that he was too young to rule. As a
result, Alexander rushed to get in power by finishing his rebels and uniting all the Greek city states
under his rule. The city states of Thebes were the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alexander had appointed his father s experienced general Antipater as in command while he away on
his conquest, leaving him with 9,000 infantries and 1,500 cavalries to maintain control over
Macedonia s territories in Europe. During the spring of 334 BCE. One of the key battles fought in his
conquest was the Battle of Granicus River which occurred on May 334 BCE. It was fought near the
city of Troy and the first of three major battles that was fought between Alexander and the Persian
Empire. Alexander s army faced the Persians on the third day of May from Abydos. Parmenion, the
second in command of Alexander, suggested crossing the river upstream and attacking at dawn the
next day, but Alexander attacked immediately. This tactic caught the Persians off guard. The
Macedonian had special way of attacking. The phalanx tactic to attack consisted of a line that was
arrayed with the heavy combat soldiers in the middle, and cavalry on either side. The Persians
expected that the main assault would come from Alexander s position and moved units from their
center to that flank. The total casualties for the Greeks were between 300 and 400. Likewise, the
Persians had 1,000 cavalries and 3,000 infantry killed. After being victorious in the battle, Alexander
buried the Persian commanders and the Greek mercenaries who were killed fighting on the side of the
enemy. Alexander commanded his men to take all the surviving prisoners and sent them away to

Networked Rhetorical Forms
Memes, Modes, and Agency in Networked Public Address
While much of networked rhetorical production focuses on the digital recreation of traditional media
(e.g. Netflix, online news, video chat), a variety of rhetorical forms have emerged that are unique to
the web (e.g. blogs, message boards, and chatrooms). Of these forms, digital memes stand out as a
communitive technology that defines networked rhetorical styles, and exemplifies the conundrum
behind Warnick s call to refigure ethos for networked environments. Moreover, as a text that is native
to networked environments, memes provide an ideal framework to meet Pfister s (2014) call to use the
performances of networked rhetorics to best understand the nature of the contemporary rhetorical ...

Although indivudal iterations of memes are deployed by individual rhetors, the ways that a particular
iteration may be mobilized are largely controlled by the form of the meme. The control of potential
iterations of a meme gives them a particular modal of agency. Grabill and Pig (2012) note that as
networked texts are increasingly fragmented, remixed, and recirculated agency becomes increasingly
difficult to define. When I repost a video with a new comment is the rhetorical action mine, the creator
of the videos or a hybrid of the two. Moreover, many of the fragments will be anonymous in some
capacity. However, the concept of the mode, combines these fragments and diffuse actors into a single
assemblage. Because of this unity, as well as the creating of the conditions of contexts, Virno (2009)
notes that the mode, rather than particular iterations, are not only the starting point of critical analysis,
but of the force of the text as

Electronic banking is an automatic delivery of the new and old banking system of products and

information about financial products through a network which is public or private by including the

banking. The main problem of the E banking is hacking of the banking system. Hacker theft the

that kinds of electronic card. Mainly when we use ATM card and give a PIN number, then there should
be a great chance to be theft the information. For the online payment the same procedure followed by
the hackers when we give PIN and card number. The increase in growth of online banking now suffers
challenges due to attacks and the risk of fraud data compromise. Consumers are now worried about
the safety of their money and information[2].These are the major problems of our E banking system.

King Arthur Themes
The film King Arthur differs in a great propensity with the traditional Arthurian tale. The elements
which represent the medieval society and which forms the key aspect of the traditional tale, have not
been included. The Holy Grail, a vital motif that is persistent in the traditional tale of King Arthur is
dropped from the cinematic representation of the tale. The film differs from the tale on multitudinous
accounts, for instance there is an absence of the love affair between Lancelot and Guinevere in the
movie. Moreover, the film chooses to not include Camelot, Avalon and Mordred. Important characters
like Mordred, the archetypical villain in the traditional tale of King Arthur is not ascribed to any
significance in the film. The character of Guinevere is indispensable in the Arthurian legend as well as
in the movie. However, the very characteristic of Guinevere is represented in a dynamically polar
opposite fashion in both the traditional tale of King Arthur and the movie. Contrary to the ancient tale,
Guinevere is no damsel in distress in the movie. The representation of Guinevere in the movie as a
warrior queen who partakes in the war along with King Arthur is emblematic as it does not depict the
character of a woman in the light of the gender typicality. It is an important alteration that the movie
chooses to make from the traditional tale.

The Reasons Why Cuban Government Permits Non Cuban Workers...
In spite of existential flaws and errors that have taken place, the deliberate persistence of Cuba s

Despite a population of 11 million people, pint sized Cuba has made their mark in global politics.
They ve managed to showcase a genuine socialist revolution and have incessantly fought, defended

Columbus found native people whom relied on farming crops such as tobacco, cassava, maize and
yams. Diego Velasquez seized Cuba in 1511 and developed many plantations throughout the country.
The native people of Cuba, whom lacked resistance to evils of the world, fell ill to many European
diseases. Early in the 1500s the Spanish started smuggling slaves into the borders of Cuba.
By the late 1800s, Cuba had begun to prosper through farming and exporting of sugar cane. Much of
this success was due to the large amount of slaves living on the plantations. The 19th century brought
about the movement for independence. In 1868, a landowner, Carlos Manuel de Cespedes, set his
slaves free causing the start of the Ten Years War. That war ended in failure in 1878. By 1886 slavery
was brought to an end across Cuba.
The year 1895 records the Second War of Independence. The United States of America found itself at
war with Spain in 1898. United States military invaded the coasts of Cuba forcing Spain to surrender.
A peace treaty was written that forced Spain to surrender their claim on Cuba. The United States
occupied Cuba for four years after that war. The US departed Cuba in 1902, with the assumption that
Cuba was an independent country however in actuality Cuba found itself subjugated by the USA.
The 20th century brought about labors to revolutionize Cuba, however in spite of those

Homelessness And Its Effects On Society
It s time to declare a war on homelessness, which is evolving into a crisis, proclaimed Mayor Kirk
Caldwell in The Honolulu Star Advertiser. (Katel, 841 864) Homelessness has become a widely
known issue in the United States. Many people today are living in the streets without a source of food,
water, or a place to sleep at night. Some who are among the homeless include the elderly, children,
and those who are mentally ill. This is a cause for concern for citizens who are living their daily lives.
Some people express their fear of homeless persons, believing that they are just beggars for money
and take up space on the streets. Although the description homeless people is not always true,
homelessness does affect society and puts the future generation at risk of becoming homeless as well.
People need to bring attention to the homeless problem across the United States so action can be taken
and change will take place.
Homelessness can be divided into two groups: people who are homeless, and those who are
chronically homeless. According to The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD),
homelessness includes those who are living in dwellings unfit for human habitation, in emergency
shelters or temporary housing, and/or leaving such a place. (Katel, 841 864) On the other hand, those
who are considered chronically homeless are usually homeless for one or more years and have a
disability or some kind of addiction. Today, homelessness is not a new issue America is

Civil Liberties vs National Security

In U.S., the bill of rights protects civil liberties. People in the United States, hold civil rights, which
are those privileges, immunities and rights held by all Americans and political rights, which are the
rights that are restricted to those who are entitled to participate in elections, as candidates or voters.
The distinction is important since not all are eligible to vote though they all should enjoy their
freedoms. This may no longer be feasible as majority of the civil rights are taken to include the
political rghts in this age.

this liability off the books by allocating the co borrowing loans among its unconsolidated subsidiaries.

Bond provided no collateral. The company also had a poor credit rating, and Freefold was effectively

The Ethnography Labor And Legality
Sarah Rodrigues Dr. Melissa Goodman Elgar Anthropology 101.02 10 December 2015 Labor and
Legality The ethnography Labor and Legality is based on the experiences of ten different
undocumented immigrant men living and working in the Chicago area. These men have been called
the Lions by the author because they all originate from the same city in Mexico called Le?n. These
men differ meaningfully in their beliefs, experiences, and plans for the future, but they also have
important things in common. They are friends, and in some cases brothers and cousins, who share the
reputation of being ?illegal aliens? and the dignity of being hard workers and family men. Their
culture guides them through many different social settings, and each man has a different perspective.
The most important thing when coming to the Unites states is that first you need to find a job. All of
the men work low paying jobs because they are illegal, but the way they work is as if they are doing
the most important job on the planet. There willingness to work is said to be the most cultural value
that they have. They demonstrate their willingness to work by performing extra work without
complaint and with haste. The workers even have a name for this performance ?ech?ndole ganas?

workers at Il Vino are very conscious of impression management and explain that they have important

Essay On The Antibacterial Effects Of Microorganisms
The main for the purpose of this study was to find out about the tolerance of Listeria monocytogenes
towards quaternary ammonium compounds (QAC). The antibacterial effects of disinfectants are
crucial for the control of Listeria monocytogenes in food processing environments. Tolerance of L.
monocytogenes to sub lethal levels of disinfectants based on QAC is conferred by the resistant
determinants qacH and bcrABC. The QAC based disinfectants which are in common use in many
food industries are found to have strains of qacH and bcrABC which are resistant to QAC. It helps in
the growth of these microorganisms with those particular strains (Møretrø et al., 2017).

including ready to eat (RTE) meats, smoked fish, soft cheeses, unpasteurised dairy products, and even

does take place (Tiffany, 2015). L. monocytogenes that occur in food may originate in soils from
farms, in slaughtering facilities, in food processing plants and other equipment used in food
manufacture. The elimination of this bacteria can be challenging as it forms very resistant biofilms
(Oxaran et al., 2017). Bacterial biofilms are defined as surface associated bacterial communities
forming micro colonies surrounded by a matrix of exo polymers. Biofilms confer to L.
monocytogenes a greater resistance to antimicrobial agents and they allow microorganisms to resist to
environmental changes and cleaning/disinfection treatments (Tiffany, 2015). L. monocytogenes
possess an ability to establish itself in equipment or production environments and single strains of the
microorganisms have been shown to reoccur in production environment over periods of years. The
bacteria persist in environmental niches like cracks, inside equipment that are protected from cleaning
and disinfection routines (Møretrø et al., 2017).

Direct Oxidation Of Methanol Lab Report
Proposed Mechanisms for the Direct Oxidation of Methane to Methanol
The oxidation of CH4 usually progresses to C02 and H20 because the intermediates are a series of
highly reactive radical reactions and this makes partial oxidation of CH3 into CH3OH very hard. In
addition, CH3OH oxidizes faster than CH4 and requires less energy for its oxidation. Industrial
attempts to synthesize methanol from methane is usually done indirectly since the direct methods have
low methanol specificity and yield. Current industrial methods for producing methanol involve
making synthesis gas from methane and then catalytically converting it to methanol. Several methods
are used such as steam reforming, and dry reforming. These methods require high temperature of
about 800°C, the reactions are endothermic requiring lot of energy. The end product of the reactions
also requires intensive purification from impurities such as sulfur and other compounds. Finding
feasible mechanisms for oxidation of methane to methanol cannot be over emphasized because of the
uses of methanol such as production of other chemicals like formaldehyde, acetic acid, for extraction
of sulfur and most importantly as an alternative to fossil fuels.
Due to the severe reaction conditions, energy intensive, and less efficient means of partial oxidative
production of methanol, ways of directly oxidizing methane to methanol are being investigated. Some
of the methods that have been researched are high pressure oxidation of methane in a flow system,
catalytic oxidation with copper, and gas phase homogenous oxidation where the reactors have no
stainless steel and products are prevented from contacting the wall of the reactor to improve methanol
selectivity and yield. Also, introduction of strong oxidants like N20 was explored, however, strong
oxidants are very expensive and so not feasible for industrial use.
Recent research, however, uses Methane Monooxygenases as a model. Methane Monooxygenases are
oxidoreductase enzymes commonly found in methanotropic bacteria. One of the most studied
methanotropic bacteria is Methylococcus capsulatus. It converts methane to methanol then methanol
to formaldehyde and formaldehyde to formate and carbon dioxide which is used energy

The Mystery Of Vampires And True Blood
Abstract
Vampires fill the world of the shadows and superstition with images of fanged beast ready to feast on
human blood from the dark. Creatures creeping from the grave while looking for victims to feed on.
While the ideas and classical imagining of vampires have changed greatly from the classical folklore
stories to the large screen imaging we see today with twilight and True Blood, one thing is certain,
Vampires have traveled across continent as well as eons of time and influenced culture. With this
paper, the exploration of the connections between the different cultures that have vampire folklore and
what those connections are.
Vampires: Cultural Connections
The actual definition of the word vampire and it origin is still mysterious as the creature it is used to
described but one thing is certain that there are debates as to where the word came from. From the
earliest mention of the creatures being present in early Mesopotamian texts, to Eastern Europe, the
creatures that are revenants or beings that have returned from the dead and that feed off the living. In
folklore this creature is prevalent in stories from Eastern Europe as well as lands to the north as well
as Africa and Mesoamerica.
Early Beginnings
In order to explain things around them, early civilizations would often create stories on things that
could not be explained. This had been seen in the creation of the world as well as why people die and
what happens after. The vampire can reasonably be seen in

The issue is our effort to promote democracy and economic well being in the face of Cuban and
Nicaraguan aggression, aided and abetted by the Soviet Union. It is definitely not about plans to send
American troops into combat in Central America. Each year, the Soviet Union provides Cuba with $4
billion in assistance, and it sends tons of weapons to foment revolution here in our
hemisphere...Central America is a region of great importance to the United States. And it is so close:
San Salvador is closer to Houston, Texas, than Houston is to Washington, DC. Central America is
America. It s at our doorstep, and it s become the stage for a bold attempt by the Soviet Union, Cuba,
and Nicaragua to install communism by force throughout the ... Show more content on

Since the early days of Central American independence, Honduras has had the tragic fate of being
frequently used as a transit point or launching area for troops attacking a neighboring country. For
example, Honduras played a vital role in the overthrow of President Jacobo Arbenz Guzman in
Guatemala in 1954 when Honduras served as training ground. Therefore, US influence has been more
noticeable in Honduras than the other countries in the region. Additionally, the long history of the US
fruit companies and their control of the banana republic s economic benefits, opened the doors to
capitalism in the US and Central America, which set a solid foundation for the US government to
constantly protect and advance their economic and political

Nurse Shortage Plan
The problem of nurse shortage is not new to healthcare. Moreover, it becomes burning in critical and
intensive care units where the workload is high, and nurses observe an increased risk of burnout
(Pastores Kvetan, 2015). Nurse shortage has a negative impact not only on nurses themselves. It also
influences patients and can lead to negative patient outcomes due to less attention that a nurse gives to
a patient (Ferrer et al., 2014). Therefore, there is a need for a strategic plan to address nurse shortage
and thus contribute both to nurse retention and improved patient outcomes. The purpose of this paper
is to present a strategic plan of an intervention aimed at reduction of nurse shortage in intensive and
critical care units.

Another strength comprises flexible internal policies which can be altered to provide nurses with
better work conditions. At the same time, such weaknesses as the lack of trained nurse managers and
poor planning of workload slow down the possible improvements. The organization is open to new
opportunities. Thus, it supports the use of health IT such as electronic health record to make the work
of nurses less loaded. Moreover, the organization is interested in continuous nurse education, which is
beneficial both for nurse employees and the organization itself since it will get well trained
professionals. Finally, the organization is ready to review scheduling policies to reduce nurse fatigue
and burnout. Still, there are some threats that can prevent the project implementation. There still is a
high risk of burnout because of the necessity to work in shifts and working extra hours. Moreover, the
lack of effective nurse leaders may not allow change

The Game Of Baseball Was Invented By Abner Doubleday Essay
The game of baseball was invented by Abner Doubleday, in 1839 177 years ago from today. Baseball
has been, and is still today, known as America s favorite pastime; additionally, due to its extensive
history and partaking it monumental events, it can as well serve as a great topic to use in a story or
poem. Poet Dale Ritterbusch, uses the game of baseball along with metaphors in his poem as a vehicle
to write about a more substantial subject in poetry, the Vietnam War. His poem, Behind the Plate , can
be simply over looked to one as just a poem about an overweight catcher; nonetheless, when closely
examined, it has a deeper meaning. Authors Michael Cocchiarale and Scott Emmert, both agree with
the statement that baseball is a great outlet for further analysis of a more important subject: Writers
have seen sports, particularly baseball, as a useful vehicle for cultural and epistemological analysis
(Cocchiarale). The poem, Behind the Plate , starts off with the line: Always the dumbest and fattest kid
played catcher (Ritterbusch, Behind ); however, Dale Ritterbusch chose to start this poem with that
statement for a reason it sets a tone for the rest of the poem to have a certain meaning. The fat catcher
is known to specifically represent America in the Vietnam War; the catcher is fat because, well, in
history catchers in baseball are often overweight. Additionally, in general one who is fat in sports
often has a disadvantage, even in the case of being a catcher, and

After several months of failed experiments they had finally made a bomb to test. On July 6, 1945 they
had tested this new bomb at Los Alamos. Then one month later the 2 nuclear bombs were dropped on
Japans Hiroshima and Nagasaki. One of the main reasons that Truman had initiated the dropping was
because he belived it would end the war.
Once every one had realized that the Manhattan Project was a success the Soviet Union had begin to
make there own form of a nuclear weapon. Thus the begin of the atomic arms race had started. This
had also started the beginning of the cold war as well.
In 1949 the cold war had started , China had turned communist, and the Soviet Union tested there first
atom bomb. The testing of there atom bomb was one of the many reasons why this war had started.
One of the other reasons was that communism was taking over the east and the nations of the U.N.
were afraid that there allies or profits might be lost to communism. When China had became
communist with as many people it has making a large workforce could spell trouble for the
democracies. Communism was also flexing it s muscles in the Soviet Union after making sure the
world knew that they

  • 2. New Social Movement Essay Social movements have become an important aspect of life to attempt to improve the world around us, and to project highly supported ideas such as things like animal rights, gay rights, climate change, black lives matter, and working class movements such as the equal pay movement. Social movements such as these are the key actors within our societies that challenge the higher powers to create or to start to create a change worldwide. One paradigm that has arisen within the realm of sociology is the NSM, which is the new social movement s paradigm. The European new social movement studies (NSM) is a critical approach within the study of social movements, which stresses the elements of both macrohistorical and microhistorical theories of social movements (Pichardo, N. A., 1997). Secondly, it explores the extreme change within European/Western societies when it comes to the reasoning of social movements in the post industrial era. These reasoning s are the shift that began during the 1960 s between being mainly political reasoning to becoming more human rights focused . This essay will give an evaluation of the new social movement theory (NSW) approach to social movements, some main theorists within the field and will lastly, touch upon how this certain approach relates to the state. The pioneer of this certain social movement theory was a French sociologist named Alain Touraine, who is also well known for using the term post industrial society originally, Touraine was ... Controlled Content Distribution For Peer Networks CONTROLLED CONTENT DISTRIBUTION IN PEER TO PEER NETWORKS Amna Qureshi Controlled Content Distribution in Peer to Peer Networks Research Problem: Centralized fingerprinting mechanism has an encumbrance of computational overheads and high communication bandwidth costs. Central repository of authenticating data has also raised concerns over the loss of privacy and potential misuse of biometric data. For instance, biometric data stored at a central repository can be used to track individuals by checking where they visit or shop. This centralization, when compromised, may lead to data being used for unintended purposes like searching private information using latent fingerprints, revelation of certain health problems that may lead to discrimination among peers, etc. Objectives: To develop a multicast approach to the anonymous fingerprinting problem. This will reduce computational overheads and high communication bandwidth costs that characterize anonymous fingerprinting. To ensure privacy in Controlled Content Distribution in Peer to Peer Networks through the use of advanced cryptography features of group signatures. To provide a straightforward alternative to the conventional broadcast transmission that precludes fingerprinting the copy obtained by each receiver. The Case That Moved America Working Title: The case that moved America Any child denied entry to any school due to their ethnicity is automatically put at a disadvantage compared to other children. This case was originally five different cases in different parts of the United States. These cases were all compounded into one when appealed to the Supreme Court. Brown v. Board is the most historical revolutionary Civil Rights case due to it forever changing the manner in which different races in America interact with each other. Children segregated from other children because of their skin color not only causes them to be more insecure, but it also causes a large knowledge gap between the segregated parties. Children who are separated from others because of their skin color grow to develop their own insecurities and diffidence. After reviewing psychological studies showing black girls in segregated schools had low racial self esteem, the Court concluded that separating children on the basis of race creates dangerous inferiority complexes that may adversely affect black children s ability to learn (PBS). Races being divided by these social barriers create a disparity between them. It is unequal for children of different races to be separated. Equal education is required in order to give all children an equal chance at success and making differences. Because DNA testing is now something that is looked for by jurors, the defense attorneys will go through every process used to make sure that proper procedures were followed and that there are no bias elements involved. • 12. The Issue Of Bargaining Over Position Negotiation is part of everyday life, and we use it to get something that we want from other people. The problem that Roger Fisher and William Ury refer to is the issue of bargaining over position. When we argue over positions, it produces undesirable outcomes. In negotiations, people tend to pay attention to the position, and not the underlying concerns of both parties. This is not only inefficient, but it can also lead to strained relationships between two parties. Getting to Yes: Negotiating Agreement Without Giving In by Fisher and Ury is a step by step guide to negotiating using a method known as principled negotiations. In principled negotiation, you and the other party are seen as the problem solvers rather than adversaries. The goal of principled negotiation is always to reach an outcome efficiently and amicably. The Method Every negotiation will involve people, and Fisher and Ury make it very clear that people are not perfect. While some may be good communicators, others may not be good listeners on the receiving end. We have our own interests and goals, in which we tend to see from our point of view. According to Fisher and Ury, the first step to a successful negotiation is to separate the people from the problem. The most common human problem that we face tends to be perception, emotion and communication. Black Tailed Prairie Dogs Case Study Discussion on Black Tailed Prairie Dogs LRS Black tailed prairie dogs (Cynomys ludovicianus) demonstrated an improved long term reproductive success until a disproportionate ratio of helpers to breeders (exceeding amount of helpers to breeders) became injurious to the coterie. In addition, we observed an increased aggression (25% increase) in coteries with more helpers present than smaller ones. Lastly, we found that there was more communication within coteries that contained an average helper pool size than in smaller and larger helper pool size coteries. These factors may have created the results that we observe, such as less competition and how much helpers aid breeders. Less Competition Our results suggest the improved long term reproductive success is due to the number of helpers remaining relatively small. • 18. Race Based On Physical Appearance The concept of race as it is known today began innocently, as a useful point of comparison between peoples based on physical appearance. Over time, the idea of color was corrupted by various ruling classes, who discovered that this brand of disenfranchisement was useful to create and maintain an exploitable lower class. What was once a descriptor was twisted into a tool of oppression, insidiously folded into society through language, mythology, and the normalization of race based enslavement. As society moved from interactions between local groups to travel and trade between countries and continents, meaningful distinctions between peoples became less specific. While it was once useful to refer to one s neighbors by their language or ethnic group, a broader world meant far too many languages and ethnic groups for that categorization to be used. Categories grew, grouping people by their religion, culture, broad geographical location and physical characteristics. One such categorization was color. In some cases, color was entirely comparative, used not to define a group on their own but rather with reference to another. Both of these crops had an unquenchable demand with roaring profits both locally and when exported. When Eli Whitney invented the cotton gin, the demand for cotton skyrocketed. Many southerners believed that the cotton enterprise depended on more slave labor with bigger crops and more fertile land which pushed farmers to acquire more land. Thus expanding the railroad to have more railroad mileage in place by 1860 than any region outside of the northern United States.(Drescher) With this lust for more land, opened the issue of whether new states would allow or disallow slavery. This argument was tested each time new land was acquired, but it originated in 1820 with the Missouri Compromise. Under the Missouri Compromise, Maine was to enter the union as a free state while Missouri entered as a slave state. The reasoning behind this was that the balance would remain equal between free and slave states, however, slavery was prohibited in all land lying above the 36, 30 latitude line. • 21. Images And Images Of Literature Illustration is a popular aspect in literature, and can be found in all genres and forms. Although it is sometimes more heavily associated with children s books such as illustrated stories, there are large amounts of illustrated work that are designed specifically for an adult audience. Images and text both convey meaning, but they can also compete with one another. Image and text can work to guide the reader on a desired path of understanding, or they can complement each other and allow for a greater understanding. There are a lot of examples of image and text working together, but the medium can be very different. From statues and sculptures with text engraving, paintings inspired by text (or vice versa), prose and verse and illustrations, this relationship is seen regularly in the Romantic Era. This relationship between images and text can be quite complex. Although the use of text and image complement each other and create a deeper understanding and meaning, an image can work to suggest a way of reading a text, therefore limiting the imagination of the reader, and insinuate a certain understanding of a text/story that the reader/viewer may not have come to on their own. In order to understand how text and image work in unison to create meaning, it will be beneficial to look at Lacan s Theory of Meaning . Moreover, as a text that is native to networked environments, memes provide an ideal framework to meet Pfister s (2014) call to use the performances of networked rhetorics to best understand the nature of the contemporary rhetorical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although indivudal iterations of memes are deployed by individual rhetors, the ways that a particular iteration may be mobilized are largely controlled by the form of the meme. The control of potential iterations of a meme gives them a particular modal of agency. Grabill and Pig (2012) note that as networked texts are increasingly fragmented, remixed, and recirculated agency becomes increasingly difficult to define. When I repost a video with a new comment is the rhetorical action mine, the creator of the videos or a hybrid of the two. Moreover, many of the fragments will be anonymous in some capacity. However, the concept of the mode, combines these fragments and diffuse actors into a single assemblage. Because of this unity, as well as the creating of the conditions of contexts, Virno (2009) notes that the mode, rather than particular iterations, are not only the starting point of critical analysis, but of the force of the text as ... • 25. King Arthur Themes The film King Arthur differs in a great propensity with the traditional Arthurian tale. The elements which represent the medieval society and which forms the key aspect of the traditional tale, have not been included. The Holy Grail, a vital motif that is persistent in the traditional tale of King Arthur is dropped from the cinematic representation of the tale. The film differs from the tale on multitudinous accounts, for instance there is an absence of the love affair between Lancelot and Guinevere in the movie. Moreover, the film chooses to not include Camelot, Avalon and Mordred. Important characters like Mordred, the archetypical villain in the traditional tale of King Arthur is not ascribed to any significance in the film. The character of Guinevere is indispensable in the Arthurian legend as well as in the movie. However, the very characteristic of Guinevere is represented in a dynamically polar opposite fashion in both the traditional tale of King Arthur and the movie. Contrary to the ancient tale, Guinevere is no damsel in distress in the movie. The representation of Guinevere in the movie as a warrior queen who partakes in the war along with King Arthur is emblematic as it does not depict the character of a woman in the light of the gender typicality. It is an important alteration that the movie chooses to make from the traditional tale. Early in the 1500s the Spanish started smuggling slaves into the borders of Cuba. By the late 1800s, Cuba had begun to prosper through farming and exporting of sugar cane. Much of this success was due to the large amount of slaves living on the plantations. The 19th century brought about the movement for independence. • 27. Homelessness And Its Effects On Society It s time to declare a war on homelessness, which is evolving into a crisis, proclaimed Mayor Kirk Caldwell in The Honolulu Star Advertiser. (Katel, 841 864) Homelessness has become a widely known issue in the United States. Many people today are living in the streets without a source of food, water, or a place to sleep at night. Some who are among the homeless include the elderly, children, and those who are mentally ill. This is a cause for concern for citizens who are living their daily lives. Some people express their fear of homeless persons, believing that they are just beggars for money and take up space on the streets. Although the description homeless people is not always true, homelessness does affect society and puts the future generation at risk of becoming homeless as well. People need to bring attention to the homeless problem across the United States so action can be taken and change will take place. Homelessness can be divided into two groups: people who are homeless, and those who are chronically homeless. According to The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), homelessness includes those who are living in dwellings unfit for human habitation, in emergency shelters or temporary housing, and/or leaving such a place. Tolerance of L. monocytogenes to sub lethal levels of disinfectants based on QAC is conferred by the resistant determinants qacH and bcrABC. The QAC based disinfectants which are in common use in many food industries are found to have strains of qacH and bcrABC which are resistant to QAC. Biofilms confer to L. monocytogenes a greater resistance to antimicrobial agents and they allow microorganisms to resist to environmental changes and cleaning/disinfection treatments (Tiffany, 2015). • 40. Direct Oxidation Of Methanol Lab Report Proposed Mechanisms for the Direct Oxidation of Methane to Methanol The oxidation of CH4 usually progresses to C02 and H20 because the intermediates are a series of highly reactive radical reactions and this makes partial oxidation of CH3 into CH3OH very hard. In addition, CH3OH oxidizes faster than CH4 and requires less energy for its oxidation. Industrial attempts to synthesize methanol from methane is usually done indirectly since the direct methods have low methanol specificity and yield. Current industrial methods for producing methanol involve making synthesis gas from methane and then catalytically converting it to methanol. Several methods are used such as steam reforming, and dry reforming. These methods require high temperature of about 800°C, the reactions are endothermic requiring lot of energy. The end product of the reactions also requires intensive purification from impurities such as sulfur and other compounds. Finding feasible mechanisms for oxidation of methane to methanol cannot be over emphasized because of the uses of methanol such as production of other chemicals like formaldehyde, acetic acid, for extraction of sulfur and most importantly as an alternative to fossil fuels. Due to the severe reaction conditions, energy intensive, and less efficient means of partial oxidative production of methanol, ways of directly oxidizing methane to methanol are being investigated. Some of the methods that have been researched are high pressure oxidation of methane in a flow system, catalytic oxidation with copper, and gas phase homogenous oxidation where the reactors have no stainless steel and products are prevented from contacting the wall of the reactor to improve methanol selectivity and yield. Also, introduction of strong oxidants like N20 was explored, however, strong oxidants are very expensive and so not feasible for industrial use. Recent research, however, uses Methane Monooxygenases as a model. Methane Monooxygenases are oxidoreductase enzymes commonly found in methanotropic bacteria. One of the most studied methanotropic bacteria is Methylococcus capsulatus. It converts methane to methanol then methanol to formaldehyde and formaldehyde to formate and carbon dioxide which is used energy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Baseball has been, and is still today, known as America s favorite pastime; additionally, due to its extensive history and partaking it monumental events, it can as well serve as a great topic to use in a story or poem. Poet Dale Ritterbusch, uses the game of baseball along with metaphors in his poem as a vehicle to write about a more substantial subject in poetry, the Vietnam War.
