6 Improved Accessibility in Maps for Visually Impaired Users

This presentation describes a framework of map image analysis and presentation of the semantic information to visually impaired users using alternative modalities (i.e. haptics and audio). The aim of the proposed framework is to provide the visually impaired users with an easy way to use means of accessing conventional 2D maps. The proposed framework utilizes novel algorithms for the segmentation of the map images using morphological filters that are able to provide indexed information on both the street network structure and the positions of the street names in the map. The user can interact with the produced 3D model of the map and examine its properties. The developed framework analyses the map image so as to obtain the enclosed information. While navigating, audio messages are displayed providing information about the current position of the user (e.g. street name).

A lossless color image compression using an improved reversible color transfo...
Abstract In case of the conventional lossless color image compression methods, the pixels are interleaved from each color component, and they are predicted and finally encoded. In this paper, we propose a lossless color image compression method using hierarchical prediction of chrominance channel pixels and encoded with modified Huffman coding. An input image is chosen and the R, G and B color channel is transform into YCuCv color space using an improved reversible color transform. After that a conventional lossless image coder like CALIC is used to compress the luminance channel Y. The chrominance channel Cu and Cv are encoded with hierarchical decomposition and directional prediction. The effective context modeling for prediction residual is adopted finally. It is seen from the experimental result the proposed method improves the compression performance than the existing method. Knowledge Based Genetic Algorithm for Robot Path Planning

This license number plate is then used by various government offices for their respective regular administrative task like- traffic police tracking the people who are violating the traffic rules, to identify the theft cars, in toll collection and parking allocation management etc. In India all motorized vehicle are assigned unique numbers. These numbers are assigned to the vehicles by district-level Regional Transport Office (RTO). In India the license plates must be kept in both front and back of the vehicle. These plates in general are easily readable by human due to their high level of intelligence on the contrary; it becomes an extremely difficult task for the computers to do the same. Robust and Real Time Detection of Curvy Lanes (Curves) Having Desired Slopes ...
One of the biggest reasons for road accidents is curvy lanes and blind turns. Even one of the
biggest hurdles for new autonomous vehicles is to detect curvy lanes, multiple lanes and lanes
with a lot of discontinuity and noise. This paper presents very efficient and advanced algorithm
for detecting curves having desired slopes (especially for detecting curvy lanes in real time)
and detection of curves (lanes) with a lot of noise, discontinuity and disturbances. Overall aim
is to develop robust method for this task which is applicable even in adverse conditions. Even in
some of most famous and useful libraries like OpenCV and Matlab, there is no function
available for detecting curves having desired slopes, shapes, discontinuities. Only few
predefined shapes like circle, ellipse, etc, can be detected using presently available functions.
Proposed algorithm can not only detect curves with discontinuity, noise, desired slope but also
it can perform shadow and illumination correction and detect/ differentiate between different
curves.
Iaetsd traffic sign recognition for advanced driver
This document discusses a system for traffic sign recognition using principal component analysis to help drivers. A camera captures road sign images which are processed using techniques like segmentation, recognition and classification. Eigenvalues are calculated and compared to a database. The recognized sign is transmitted to an LPC2148 processor via RS232. It displays the sign type on an LCD and announces it using an audio amplifier. The system was tested on various sign images and accurately recognized and announced the signs.

Dynamic Path Planning

Comparison of Distance Transform Based Features
The distance transform based features are widely used in pattern recognition applications. A distance transform
assigns to each background pixel in a binary image a value equal to its distance to the nearest foreground pixel
according to a defined metric. Among these metrics the Chessboard, Euclidean, Chamfer and City-block are
popular. The role of a feature extraction method is quite important in pattern recognition applications. Before
applying a feature, it is essential to judge its performance on the given applications. In this research work, a
study on the performance of above mentioned distance transform based features is made. We have conducted
experiments with 500 hand-printed characters/class and the study has been performed on 43 classes. The
classifiers used are k-NN, MLP, SVM and PNN.

Topographic maps contain information related to roads, contours, landmarks land covers and rivers etc. For any Remote sensing and GIS based project, creating a database using digitization techniques is a tedious and time consuming process especially for contour tracing. Contour line is very important information that these maps provide. They are mainly used for determining slope of the landforms or rivers. These contour lines are also used for generating Digital Elevation Model (DEM) for 3D surface generation from any satellite imagery or aerial photographs. This paper suggests an algorithm that can be used for tracing contour lines automatically from contour maps extracted from the topographical sheets and creating a database. In our approach, we have proposed a modified Moore's Neighbor contour tracing algorithm to trace all contours in the given topographic maps. The proposed approach is tested on several topographic maps and provides satisfactory results and takes less time to trace the contour lines compared with other existing algorithms.

A STUDY AND ANALYSIS OF DIFFERENT EDGE DETECTION TECHNIQUES
In the first study [1], a combination of K-means, watershed segmentation method, and Difference In Strength (DIS) map were used to perform image segmentation and edge detection
tasks. We obtained an initial segmentation based on K-means clustering technique. Starting from this, we used two techniques; the first is watershed technique with new merging
procedures based on mean intensity value to segment the image regions and to detect their boundaries. The second is edge strength technique to obtain accurate edge maps of our images without using watershed method. In this technique: We solved the problem of undesirable over segmentation results produced by the watershed algorithm, when used directly with raw data images. Also, the edge maps we obtained have no broken lines on entire image. In the 2nd study level set methods are used for the implementation of curve/interface evolution under various forces. In the third study the main idea is to detect regions (objects) boundaries, to isolate and extract individual components from a medical image. This is done using an active contours to detect regions in a given image, based on techniques of curve evolution, Mumford–Shah functional for segmentation and level sets. Once we classified our images into different intensity regions based on Markov Random Field. Then we detect regions whose boundaries are not necessarily defined by gradient by minimize an energy of Mumford–Shah functional forsegmentation, where in the level set formulation, the problem becomes a mean-curvature which will stop on the desired boundary. The stopping term does not depend on the gradient of the image as in the classical active contour. The initial curve of level set can be anywhere in the image, and interior contours are automatically detected. The final image segmentation is one
closed boundary per actual region in the image.

Urban 3D Semantic Modelling Using Stereo Vision, ICRA 2013

4) The semantic model is evaluated by projecting it back to the input images and calculating metrics like recall and intersection over union. Future work includes real-time implementation and combining image and geometric context.
Road markers classification using binary scanning and slope contours
Road markers guide the driver while driving on the road to control the traffic for the safety of
the road users. With the booming autonomous car technology, the road markers classification is important
in its vision segment to navigate the autonomous car. A new method is proposed in this paper to classify
five types of road markers namely dashed, single, double, solid-dashed and dashed-solid which are
commonly found on the two lane single carriageway. The classification is using unique feature acquired
from the binary image by scanning on each of the images to calculate the frequency of binary transition.
Another feature which is the slopes between the two centroids which allow the proposed method, to
perform the classification within the same video frame period. This proposed method has been observed to
achieve an accuracy value of at least 93%, which is higher than the accuracy value achieved by
the existing methods.
RST invariant watermarking technique for vector map based on LCA-transform
The dangers of copyright protection can impact 2D vector maps, having a knock-on effect on the use of vector data. To achieve invariance property, uniform RST (rotation, scaling and translation) and disguising the digital vector map’s information by implementing distortion control, is all done by using watermarking schemes. Convert an original map, then engrain the watermark. An LCA algorithm is used in this study, as a newly proposed way to protect the vector maps under copyright. The procedure is operated in this order: 1) use an original map, altered by the LCA algorithm, 2) use the coefficient of the transformation to engrain the watermark, inserting the resulting frequency into the LSB wave, 3) the watermarked map is acquired by using the inverse LCA map transformation. Further investigations discovered that the necessary standards of fidelity and invisibility can be achieved using this technique. This procedure also gives out numerous frequency domains for digital watermarking; as well as being resilient to signal and geometric invasions.
User Interactive Color Transformation between Images
Abstract: In this paper we present a process called color
transfer which can borrow one image’s color
characteristics from another. Most current colorization
algorithms either require a significant user effort or have
large computational time. Here focus on orthogonal color
space i.e. lαβ color space without correlation between the
axes is given. Here we have implemented two global color
transfer algorithms in lαβ color space using simple color
statistical information such as mean, standard deviation
and covariance between the pixels of image. Our approach
is the extension of Reinhard's. Our local color transfer
algorithm uses simple color statistical analysis to recolor
the target image according to selected color range in
source image. Target image’s color influence mask is
prepared. It is a mask that specifies what parts of target
image will be affected according to selected color range.
After that target image is recolored in lαβ color space
according to prepared color influence map. In the lαβ
color space luminance and chrominance information is
separate so it allows making image recoloring optional.
The basic color transformation uses stored color statistics
of source and target image. All the algorithms are
implemented in JAVA object oriented language. The main
advantage of proposed method over the existing one is it
allows the user to recolor a part of the image in a simple &
intuitive way, preserving other color intact & achieving
natural look.

Transportation networks, such as streets, railroads or metro systems, constitute primary elements in cartography for reckoning and navigation. In recent years, they have become an increasingly important part of 3D virtual environments for the interactive analysis and communication of complex hierarchical information, for example in routing, logistics optimization, and disaster management. A variety of rendering techniques have been proposed that deal with integrating transportation networks within these environments, but have so far neglected the many challenges of an interactive design process to adapt their spatial and thematic granularity (i.e., level-of-detail and level-of-abstraction) according to a user's context. This paper presents an efficient real-time rendering technique for the view-dependent rendering of geometrically complex transportation networks within 3D virtual environments. Our technique is based on distance fields using deferred texturing that shifts the design process to the shading stage for real-time stylization. We demonstrate and discuss our approach by means of street networks using cartographic design principles for context-aware stylization, including view-dependent scaling for clutter reduction, contour-lining to provide figure-ground, handling of street crossings via shading-based blending, and task-dependent colorization. Finally, we present potential usage scenarios and applications together with a performance evaluation of our implementation.

High performance Serverless Java on AWS- GoTo Amsterdam 2024
Java is for many years one of the most popular programming languages, but it used to have hard times in the Serverless community. Java is known for its high cold start times and high memory footprint, comparing to other programming languages like Node.js and Python. In this talk I'll look at the general best practices and techniques we can use to decrease memory consumption, cold start times for Java Serverless development on AWS including GraalVM (Native Image) and AWS own offering SnapStart based on Firecracker microVM snapshot and restore and CRaC (Coordinated Restore at Checkpoint) runtime hooks. I'll also provide a lot of benchmarking on Lambda functions trying out various deployment package sizes, Lambda memory settings, Java compilation options and HTTP (a)synchronous clients and measure their impact on cold and warm start times.

This webinar will delve into the motivations behind establishing LF Energy’s Carbon Data Specification Consortium. It will provide an overview of the draft specifications and the ongoing progress made by the respective working groups.
