Abramovic Performance Art
Performance art is an artistic format that combines the visual with physical. The open ended medium
possesses endless variables and possibilities of immaterial means of connecting art to the body. In the
feminist art movement, performance art provided a bridge that connected women to their bodies.
When relating to the female form, performance art serves a command, rather than an invitation. Artists
involved in this movement challenged their roles in the art world as well as in a society. While the idea
of the female form has been a tradition found in classical art, the female nude continued to be defined
and created by men. It wasn t until the performance art movement that women began to fully emerge
from their stereotypical submissive image ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this work, Abramovic brushes her hair repeatedly while saying the title repetitively. By stating the
standard of female beauty in art, the performance makes the audience aware of the discriminatory
gender roles and creates a feeling of discomfort. While the beginning of the performance is striking,
the continuous act of bushing hair changing from aggressive and violent to calm and poetic, makes the
audience unsettled. However, as the performance continues and the actions continue to weave through
different emotions, the piece becomes incredibly profound. The act of saying that the artist must be
beautiful becomes hauntingly human. By repeating this line, Abramovic challenges conventional
beauty standards and calls upon modern female desires to be physically beautiful. Not only does the
performance extract from physical appearance, the piece questions whether art must be beautiful. In
performance art, the actions often challenge the performer and bring it to the extreme by putting
emotional and physical stress on the artist s body and mind. Art must be Beautiful, Artist Must be
Beautiful puts continuous stress upon the artist s body by reclaiming the figure as the artists own and
exposing the harsh realities of social expectations. Consequently, as an artist, Mariana Abramovic s
piece challenges physical beauty and changes the relationship between the artist and her

Value Of Education In The United States
An investment in knowledge pays the best interest. Benjamin Franklin
Benjamin Franklin lived in the eighteen century. He attended but did not graduate from the Boston
Latin School. However, Franklin was a very educated man. Franklin continued educating himself,
after withdrawing from the Boston Latin school, through other means such as reading. Nevertheless,
Franklin acknowledges the importance of education. Today, the value of education is often preached.
However, many of the United States` policies do not reflect on the so called importance of education.
For example, The United States spends 20% on Wars and only 3% on education. This tells us that the
United States do not care as much about education as we do about the wars. With such a low
investment in education, the United States has fallen behind in terms of education. However, there are
signs everywhere that the United States needs to invest more in education. For example, one was
considered an educated man if he graduated high school in the 1960`s. Thus, many viewed two and
four year universities as luxuries. Fast forward fifty years later, even careers that are entry level jobs
strongly recommend having a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

seem to be the answer. However, even public universities are no longer free for them. Many poor
people graduate from public universities in debt. Entering a very uncertain workforce and in debt,
many people find themselves settling for jobs where they are overqualified just to survive. Thus, they
take low paying jobs that will never allow them to pay back their loans and live a better life. To give
everyone equal opportunity for economic advancement, I suggest making public universities free for

Marie-Bealer Sangee Lauder Quotes
In the book all the lights we cannot see, the prevailing mystery is whether or not the sea of Flames is
cursed. The curse was this: the keeper of the stone would live forever, but so long as he kept it,
misfortunes would fall on all those he loved one after another in unending rain. But if the keeper threw
the diamond into the sea, thereby delivering it to its rightful recipient, the goddess would lift the curse.
Page 21. The character in this book, Marie Laure, has to decipher the exact facts from the rumors that
are circulating about the sea of Flames. This is due to the fact that one day it s a cluster of rare
magnesium hydroxy carbonate; the next it s a star sapphire that will set a man s hand on fire if he
touches it. Then it becomes a diamond, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Marie Laure then has to try and find out if the diamond and the curse are real by asking the one person
she trust; her dad. Logical, he tells her They re just stories page 51 he also tells her that curses are only
stories cooked up to deter thieves page 52. Yet it seems that everyone else around her blames any
thing that goes wrong on the diamond. Later on, even her father starts to believe in the curse when
things start to go wrong. That would be when he gets to Monsieur Giannot s house hoping to fulfill his
duties get some food but instead he find that Monsieur Giannot has moved. This is when he has to
reason with himself and remember that a diamond is only a piece of carbon compressed in the bowels
of the earth for eons and driven to the surface in a volcanic pipe. Someone facets it, someone polishes
it. It can harbor a curse no more than a leaf can, or a mirror, or a life. There is only chance in this
world, chance and physics. Page 108/109. It is only near the end of the book that Marie Laure realizes
that she has the diamond. This is when she starts to question whether or not there really is a curse,

The Slavic Pope s Return to Poland: An Analysis of language and common themes used by the pope to
influence Poland
Introduction Thesis: A Slavic Pope Stands behind the Iron Curtain
Bells tolled and Poles exclaimed as their native son, Karol Jozef Wojtyla, returned to his homeland on
June 2, 1979 for the first time as Pope John Paul II. Upon his arrival to Okęcie, the location of the
Warsaw Airport, Pope John Paul II knelt and kissed the ground of his beloved homeland. Huge crowds
of Poles lined the streets of Warsaw as Pope John Paul II moved to Victory Square to prepare for
Mass. Many people could not believe that such a hopeful figure had been permitted to come to Poland

The will of the Polish people now led the state. The Polish people realized during Pope John Paul s
first papal visit to Poland that the communist state had legitimacy only through fear and propaganda.
Many Poles came to this realization when following the television coverage of the papal visit because
the communist state covered the event as if the visit was only a small gathering. The communist
officials covered the event in such a way to control the public s reaction to the pope s visit, but the
Poles in attendance realized the deception the communist officials were using in the television
coverage of the event. Pope John Paul s visit to Poland seemed prophetic to the Poles. They now had a
world leader willing to oppose the ills of their communist state. Pope John Paul expressed the positive
outlook he had for the Polish people when he said, I am asking all of you, through the great
Eucharistic prayer, that Christ will not cease to be for us an open book of life for the future, for our
Polish future . Pope John Paul invested in the Polish people and his language of love eventually broke
through in the communist state of

Discrepancy Between Anaerobic And Aquatic Analysis
There is a discrepancy regarding anaerobic and aerobic capacity between different species of marine
organisms. Anaerobic metabolism does not need oxygen to transform glucose to pyruvate (Somero,
1980). Type II fibers are found in anaerobic glycolysis. These fibers consist of white muscle that can
be used quickly but are also scarce when it comes to prolonged use. White muscle fibers are primarily
used in organisms that have short bursts of strong energy (Dickson, 1993). To focus on the white
muscle fibers, any red muscle fibers were not allowed in the samples (Somero, 1980). To keep
consistency, my group tried to take muscle samples from the same spot on each species because of
possible contamination if the muscle was extracted from other areas. ... Show more content on

They prefer to be in sandy areas in shallow or deep water (Chesapeake Bay). Croakers are bottom
feeders which means that they eat food on the ocean floor. This is because they are found in deep
water. A bottom feeder diet includes other small fish and crustaceans (Chesapeake Bay). Shrimp can
tolerate any level of salinity and prefer to live in the bottom of shallow waters (Arnott, Neil, Ansell
1998). They typically feed on small fish and algae. They are also well known for their unique escape
mechanism of flipping off the sea floor and diving into the sediment to get away from predators
(Arnott, Neil, Ansell 1998). This short duration of spontaneous movement requires lots of white
muscle fibers. The objectives of this experiment were to gain the knowledge of how to perform an
enzyme assay, compare the LDH activity in three species, and to associate the LDH activity values
with the capacity for anaerobic metabolism. My group originally thought that all three of these
organisms would have higher LDH levels due to their daily activities. However due to more in depth
background information about their behaviors, my group hypothesized that croakers would have the
highest LDH activity levels due to their continuous migration between multiple habitats. This constant
movement requires a lot of energy. Our results showed that lizardfish had the highest LDH activity
values as opposed to our

Sodium Bicarbonate Synthesis Lab
Experiment 1:
After 10% sodium bicarbonate solution adds to the dichloromethane solution, which dissolves the
mixture of benzoic acid, 2 naphthol, and 1,4 dimethoxybenzene, and shake the separatory funnel, there
are hissing sounds as well as when 10% sodium hydroxide solution is added. Also, when the
separatory funnel is vented, gas, carbon dioxide, rushes out. The first extraction allows benzoic acid to
be isolated. Through adding 10% sodium bicarbonate solution, the weak base removes the proton of
benzoic acid, a stronger acid compared with 2 naphthol, which turns benzoic acid into charged form.
So it dissolves in the aqueous layer while 1,4 dimethoxybenzene and 2 naphthol remain in the organic
layer. The upper aqueous layer contained benzoic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

solids with reflux and heat; the solids disappear. When it is heated with reflux, bubbles are generated.
After the heating, the color of the solution becomes lighter than before when sodium hydroxide and 2

inside and outside sources. Retail walk in buyers: As stated in the case, the main source of data of
retail customers is the insurance forms as many of the retail walk in buyers buy products that are
covered in their insurance plan. The data entries regarding the products purchased through insurance
can be use and hard copies of the forms signed by the retailers can be helpful as well. Similarly, sales
ticket invoices of the retailers that bought equipments can be use to include the details of customers
who purchased on cash. Physician s offices: External data for this type of customers can be obtained
from physicians that buy equipments; this data can be access to find out what type of referrals they
give to patients. However, effort is needed in order to get this information; request should be sent to
the physician s staff to provide statistics on the number of patients, the referrals and expenditures.
Along with this, internal records can also be used to counter check the equipments that were purchase

Argumentative Essay On Hero Vs Monster
Hero Versus Monster
The classic story of hero versus monster has been around for as long as we as human have been telling
them. There is something about a good hero, or even more so a good monster that fascinates and
intrigues the human mind. We love stories of underdogs prevailing against the odds just as much as we
enjoy the monsters they are put up against. Modern day hero versus monster stories take place
between radically different parties then that of early human history however. Often today the hero and
the monster can be the same person, with ourselves being our worst enemies.
Back in early human history, complications, disagreements, and issues generally took place between
two parties. Introspection, the examination or observation of one s own mental and emotional
processes, was not as prevalent as it is today. While our modern day society still deals with issues
between two individuals, many of the issues we are confronted with now are internal struggles with
ourselves. Low ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The term hero in modern day English is defined as someone who is admired or idealized for courage,
outstanding achievements, or noble qualities, but who and as well as what makes a hero is more up to
the eyes of the beholder than anything else. While a hero for many is someone that plays a role model
figure in their lives, many a time do they forget that they themselves are one of the most heroic and
courageous persons in their lives. Tasks such as overcoming crippling depression, working up the
courage to step out of one s comfort zone and try something new, or working through a traumatic
death in a family are all examples of invisible heroes, heroes that cannot be seen but are felt instead.
These invisible heroes play a role in shaping us into who we are, and many times fight battles within

Outdoor Recreation Is A Big Part Of Humans Interacting...
Outdoor recreation is a big part of humans interacting with the environment. Hiking, biking, hunting,
fishing, visiting national parks, examining wildlife, and traveling: these are the primary outdoor
recreational activities in the United States. Each one has a significant impact on the environment. At
some outdoor recreational activity spots there are restrictions as to where guests can walk and how
much of the environment they can explore. This isn t to make the guests mad; it is to preserve nature
and make it last a long time, so the visitors can come back in years to come. First, outdoor recreation
is visiting National Parks and Wildlife Conservation. National Parks are visited by millions of people

Littering is bad for our air quality, and vandalism makes the park not look as nice. Also park rangers
have to clean up after the public, keeping them from more productive parts of their jobs.
If guests want to keep visiting the parks and be able to experience the scenic views of different states,
they need to be respectful of the earth. Guests need to think of the impact they are having on others,
not just themselves. While Utah s residents and visitors are having fun in the outdoors, they also feed
our economy and improve their health. Said The State of Utah Outdoor Recreation Vision. Utah s
outdoor recreation industry is a significant and growing part of the states economy, contributing well
paying jobs, for highly skilled workers and a tax base that funds essential state services. As long as
Americans are participating in wholesome, appropriate activities, they are contributing to the wellness
of America. When Americans take advantage of the rights and privileges they are given, they are
affecting the United States in a negative way. Outdoor recreation is about embracing nature how it is.

Part 1: Explain the function of a modern nuclear power device and process
The Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactor (LFTR) is a type of molten salt reactor which will generate
electrical power through nuclear fission. LFTR s are a hypothetical and innovative solution to the
future of power production which are a viable replacement of the current flawed uranium reactors.
Using LFRS s as a nuclear energy source poses a number of advantages for the long run and short
term. Many countries such as China and India are currently heading towards LFTR s as a main source
of energy. The LFTR offers unparalleled safety features in contrast to other conventional nuclear
reactors, ensuring that incidents such as Fukushima will never occur again. Thorium, which is the
element used to fuel LFTR s, is three times more abundant than uranium (World Nuclear, 2015).
LFTR waste is also less biologically harmful as it emits alpha particles compared to conventional
uranium reactors which emits gamma particles. The radiotoxicity of waste across nuclear power
production methods can be seen in

Questions and Hypotheses
Introduction: Cells contain a number of different organelles, specialized structures living within
cells(Mcallister and Leicht 2017). When a cell tissue is grinded down and mixed into a soupy mixture,
the organelles can be separated using a process called centrifugation. The soupy mixture is placed in a
centrifuge which spins the mixture at high speeds. This results in the denser and heavier organelles
ending up in the bottom the the tube which is called the pellet. The lighter and less dense organelles
remain in the liquid portion called the supernatant. This process can be repeated many
times(Mcallister and Leicht 2017). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hypothesis for experiment 1: The hypothesis for experiment 1 was that cell fraction pellet 2 would
contain the most chloroplasts. Figure 2C on page 43 in the lab notebook shows that centrifugation of a
plant cell resulting in 3 pellets will result in the second pellet containing the most chloroplasts because
it is lighter and less dense when compared to nuclei and amyloplasts but more dense than
mitochondria(Mcallister and Leicht 43). We created 2 pellets so it would make sense that the last
pellet will contain the most chloroplasts.
Question for experiment 2: Using the cell fraction that was identified in the previous experiment as
containing the most chloroplasts, how much effect will diuron, an herbicide used in Iowa, have on the
electron transport chain?(Mcallister and Leicht

they used the locations to satisfy the reginal demands, and spread its R D labs globally, instead of
centralizing near to headquarters. SAP opened development labs in high tech areas such as Silicon

Shakespeare, a renowned writer of the ages, often commented upon real world situations in his plays.
One of these such plays is The Tempest, a dramatic story entailing power struggles, slavery,
vengeance, a random island, and a lot of manipulation. The plot starts off riveting as Prospero, the
protagonist, employs one of his servants to create a storm and cause a ship to crash on his island.
Immediately following, dozens of plans are put into place with the survivors of the shipwreck that
ultimately brings every person on the island within his clutches. In the meantime, various subplots are

Effects Of Birth Control On American Women s Lives
Effects of the Birth Control Pill on American Women s Lives
Over the centuries, women have tried a number of methods to prevent unwanted pregnancies. Some of
the pregnancy control measures that existed before the invention of the pill included abstinence and
withdrawal. Unfortunately, such methods often failed to prevent unintended pregnancies. As such,
birth control advocates continued researching for effective birth control methods. Americans did not
meet the idea of birth control methods with enthusiasm. In fact, those who advocated the use of birth
control devices experienced challenges, including being jailed.
In the 1950s, birth control pills were introduced in the United States (Windsor, 2002). Over the past
seven decades, the pill has changed the American women s lives in several ways. The pills have
allowed women to delay marriages, invest in their career development, and secure well paid jobs in
areas that were previously dominated by men. The pill has also improved family relationships and
prevented abuse and marriage dissolutions. This paper explores the history of birth control methods in
the US and how the pill became available on a large scale to women. The paper further examines how
the pills has given women the freedom to advance their careers, strengthen the marriage relationships,
and participate in the workforce.

African Americans And The American Revolution
In their demands for liberty and equality, African Americans would point to their role in all of America
s wars. Many fought for liberty in the American Revolution, like Philadelphia s James Forten who
served aboard an American privateer. God created all men equal. Why are they not being treated
equally? Blacks and whites should be protected by the same laws and privileges. James Forten was a
freeborn African American who had a nice job and was very wealthy for his time. Forten says, Whilst
so much is being done in the world, to ameliorate the condition of mankind, and the spirit of Freedom
is marching with rapid strides and causing tyrants to tremble, may America awake from the apathy in
which she has long slumbered. The northern states were slowly starting to abolish slavery and some
the whites in Pennsylvania did not like all of the free slaves in their state still. Pennsylvania was once
a refuge for free African Americans. Forten demanded to be treated the same as whites and have full
citizenship. I agree that African Americans are created equally and should be protected by the same
laws. The legal principles James Forten used were the Declaration of Independence and the
Constitution. Those two documents are the most important in American history. Forten appealed to
what God has spoken. So God created man in his [own] image, in the image of God created he him;
male and female created he them. (Genesis 1:27) His ideas were formed by Thomas Paine and other

Gender Bias In Sports
In society, we see that women and minorities are negatively biased. For women, people are biased
against them because people think that women cannot do a job that is considered a man`s job, or they
aren`t strong enough to do specific tasks. Women are judged when they are playing sports like soccer
because reporters would ask them how is it like playing with other girls? It s as their almost saying,
Are you ok with girls that might be lesbian? There is also a bias for minorities as well because of there
is a society filled with the same race or gender, and then people from all over the world start to
accumulate, some people might fear that their jobs are at stake because the minority are trying to
assimilate to society and are trying to find jobs that are worthy for them to succeed in. Even though
for minorities, you see them areas of work, they are starting to expand their horizon and make a name
for themselves not just limited to specific jobs. Letting this go entirely probably won`t happen but if
society learns to corporate with different cultures and backgrounds, they are small steps to be made
but society has to start somewhere.
The idea that I will be focusing on is sports and how the industry has the power to dictate who will
likely win in the sport based on the culture of the specific game. Even though sports have come a long
way from how it was observed in the past, the players who are in a higher class than other players
usually have the upper hand and win.

Emergency Line Of Duty Essay
The key component to emergency line of duty is the essence of communication; telecommunication to

Broward Sheriffs Office (BSO) Telecommunication Center. I was introduced to various dispatchers

dispatchers for fire rescue and medical as well as police officers on patrol. Then there was also a

To begin with, call takers are the very first line of defense, due to the fact that they are the initial
contact point for complainants. Call takers are under various pressure as they have to have great
customer service, while gathering urgent information to have emergency responders. This amount of
pressure can lead to ample stress, yet these strong individuals are able to manage and produce great
results. On the other hand, dispatchers must communicate with the police officers as they patrol the
streets. Dispatchers receive their information/calls from the call takers and dispatch officers to calls to

receiving. This is the important roles of the two key components to emergency line of

Lavender Scare Essay
During the Cold War disloyalty throughout the nation was something everybody was scared of and
many government officials and police were taking matters into their own hands. One of the best
examples of conformity and disloyalty in the United States is with the Lavender Scare. The Lavender
Scare was a very extreme persecution of gays in the 1950 s, who were seen disloyal to the people and
government officials of the United States because of all the terrible things that was going on with
communism. Conformity was the basis of the Cold War because the United States was trying to find
anybody who could bring harm to the nation. For example, if there was anybody who was not normal

The government, knowing very little about people and hardly any evidence would take anyone they
thought was suspicious of anything odd for questioning and if they were suspected of homosexuality
they would be fired right away. The government thought people who were gay were disloyal to the
United States and made it so gay and lesbian people were without jobs in the state departments, which
later started the Gay Rights Movement and till this day is still a very controversial topic. Not so much
within employment in government jobs but more of people not being able to love and marry the
people they please. Any person who was thought to be gay or lesbian were perceived as a security risk
because they were thought of as disloyal to the United States and were discriminated against. People
had a hard time distinguishing between political disloyalty and security risk. The security risk that the
government thought a lot about was the fact that the gay and lesbian employees knew that it was an
issue to work there but they hide it. They thought that if these employees could hide something like
this from us, then they could possibly be hiding the fact that they were communists and if a

Psychological Aspects Of Sexually Abused Women And The...
Introduction The topic of this article will focus on psychological aspects of sexually abused women
and the trauma recovery and empowerment. Sexual abuse can be well defined as sexual assaults and
sexual exploitation of the individual, which include the following: Rape, Incest, Molestation and
Voyeurism. An assortment of 15 empirical studies will compare and contrast their findings of
psychological sexual abuse and trauma recovery. Individuals that are victims of sexual abuse can
undergo many issues for the victim to inflict upon. Despite the fact that sexual abuse does mark males,
women are at a higher rate to be sexually abused. In fact, one out of three females is a victim of sexual
abuse (SA) or sexual violence (SV). 13% of women and 6% of men have reported they experienced
sexual cohesion in their lifetime (Sexual Violence, 2014). Sexual abuse not merely leaves a victim
with lengthily problems but also a lifetime of psychological difficulties when treatment is not sought
after. Research further suggests that certain characteristics of the abusive experience father daughter
incest, physical force and level of sexual activity tend to be associated with a more negative long term
outcome in women (Coffey, 1996). Sexual abuse may stint from early childhood that has continued to
surface in adulthood or a specific incident that occurred in adulthood. Either way the psychological
aspect of abuse can be a vast amount of emotional and mental disorders. For example, the

An Insight Into Contemporary British And Indian Societies
With reference to contemporary Britain and one other society, explain ways in which the societies are
held together through common cultures but are also unequal and divided. This essay will demonstrate
some key concepts in sociology by providing an insight into how contemporary British and Indian
societies have held together through common cultures but are unequal and divided. It will explain how
shared culture, social organisation, values and norms between the two societies may help produce
stability and conformity within themselves. It will also highlight that there are systematic differences
between societies in relation to key sociological concepts. The text will demonstrate this by into
different aspects of their cultures featuring its norms and values, marriage and families, stratification
and Inequalities whilst attempting to link these to two key sociological theories. Norms are considered
to be standard, especially of social behaviour that is expected, whereas values are the Principles or
standards of behaviour of what is important in life.(OFORD: Online) Contemporary Britain has many
norms and values in contrast to Indian culture. The United Kingdom is a crowded country. People
cope with this situation by being reserved and apprehensive in public, politely ignoring strangers,
quietly minding their own business. (BYRON, 2001) Even though in British culture it is considered

Important Aspects Of A Functioning Classroom Essay
Through this past semester, we heavily discussed the important aspects of a functioning classroom,
from different theorists to helpful teaching techniques. We ve debated what it means to be a great
teacher. I believe most of the theories we discussed could be incorporated much more in the
classroom. John Dewey, Friedrich Froebel, Maria Montessori, and Lev Vygotsky all understood the
way children think and the importance of imaginative play. They also understood that children need to
be active in nature. Also, we have discussed different forms of learning, such as project based
learning, team teaching, and outdoor classrooms. In my opinion, the education system should have
changes that benefit the students needs. They re not getting the most out of their education. Children
are active, curious, extremely social, literal, and more intelligent than they are given credit for. They
can easily pick up the atmosphere of any environment they are in, if something is off they may not
understand it, but they will know. Children want to learn, explore, and be involved. Teaching styles
that work best for children are hands on approaches, present new information in small, clear steps, ask
many questions and discuss answers deeply. Provide scaffolding, and provide diagrams, maps,
models, and handouts. These teaching styles work best because students are doing and seeing
something. Students can hold a piece of paper and listen to what is on it by the teacher. They can see

Managers have always understood how important interpersonal skills are to their effectiveness.
Recognizing the importance of developing those same interpersonal skills is tied to the need for

Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs Maslow s hierarchy of needs is a theory in psychology, proposed by
Abraham Maslow in his 1943 paper, A Theory of Human Motivation . His hypothesis stated that
within every human being there exists a hierarchy of five needs. These needs are physiological:
hunger, thirst and shelter; safety: security and protection from physical and emotional harm; social:
affection, acceptance and friendship; esteem: self respect, recognition, autonomy, and achievement;
and self actualization: the drive to grow and become something, achieving potential and self
fulfillment (Maslow, 1954). Maslow is still relevant to managers today. In order to motivate someone
a manager must understand what level of hierarchy the person is on and focus on satisfying that level
and those above it. The manager must also account for an individual s intensity, direction and
persistence since this also affects how a person attains their goals (Robbins Judge, 2007).

Big 5 Mass Extinction Events In Research
Throughout the lifetime of the Earth, there have been various scientists who have hypothesized
various extinction events. The following essay will cover the five major extinction events, otherwise
known as the Big 5 Mass Extinction Events . According to Wikipedia (2016), a mass extinction is a
widespread and rapid decrease in the amount of life on Earth. Such an event is identified by a sharp
change in the diversity and abundance of multicellular organisms .
The first major extinction event is said to have been the Ordovician Silurian mass extinction, 443
million years ago, which occurred during the end of the Ordovician period, and the start of the Silurian
period (bbc.co.uk, 2014). This is the third largest mass extinction in the Earth s history, and there were
two peak dying times during this period, separated my hundreds of thousands of years. The
Ordovician is characterised by sea life, so creatures such as brachiopods, graptolites and trilobite
populations were severely diminished. An ice age is said to be responsible for the death
(endangerdspeciesinternational.org, 2011).
The Late Devonian mass extinction is well known for having one of the most drastic extinction rates.

coffin was a meteorite strike, near the Yucatan peninsula in Mexico, which caused the most significant
damage. This extinction event is also known as the K/T extinction (bbc.co.uk,

Medication Errors From A Nursing
Medication Errors

Baker College of Cadillac
04/24/2015
Medication Errors Each year, roughly 1.5 million adverse drug events (ADEs) occur in acute and long
term care settings across America (Institute of Medicine [IOM], 2006). An ADE is succinctly defined
as actual or potential patient harm resulting from a medication error. To expound further, while ADEs
may result from oversights related to prescribing or dispensing, 26 32% of all erroneous drug
interventions occur during the nursing administration and monitoring phases (Anderson Townsend,
2010). These mollifiable mishaps not only create a formidable financial burden for health care
systems, they also carry the potential of imposing irreversible physiological impairment to patients
and their families. In an effort to ameliorate cost inflation, undue detriment, and the potential for
litigation, a multifactorial approach must be taken to improve patient outcomes. Key components in
allaying drug related errors from a nursing perspective include: implementing safety and quality
measures, understanding the roles and responsibilities of the nurse, embracing technological
safeguards, incorporating interdisciplinary collaborative efforts, and continued emphasis upon quality
control. From a pragmatic standpoint, the nurse is ultimately the last line of defense before a potential
ADE reaches the patient (Tzeng, Yin, Schneider, 2013). As such, methods which promote quality and
safety play a

Common Misconception Of The Brain s Five Stages Of Sleep
It is a common misconception that when we fall asleep, our brains go to sleep as well. This is most
definitely not the case. Our brain is hard at work while we sleep; making memories, cleansing toxins,
and many other activities. When falling asleep, our brains go through multiple stages, from triggering
a loss in consciousness to highly erratic activity. Sleeping has five stages to it, the first being the state
between wakefulness and sleep. This stage is often referred to as drowsy sleep due to the muscles in
the body still being fairly active and the eyes roll around a bit. In this stage the brainwaves transition
from erratic beta and gamma waves, which is the normal range of brain wavelengths when the body is
awake, to less erratic alpha ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The brain activity during REM sleep is mainly mixed brain waves consisting of theta, alpha and beta
waves. This is also the point in a sleep cycle where the body is basically rigid. The brain has shut off
all muscle movements other than the ones that keep you alive. This stage is a prime example of how
the brain is busy while we are sleeping, REM sleep begins with signals from an area at the base of the
brain called the pons. These signals travel to a brain region called the thalamus, which relays them to
the cerebral cortex the outer layer of the brain that is responsible for learning, thinking, and organizing
information. The pons also sends signals that shut off neurons in the spinal cord, causing temporary
paralysis of the limb muscles (Brain Basics). Being that REM sleep deals with learning, scientists
believe this is the reason infants sleep a large amount of time and also why they are more susceptible
to being woken up by the slightest noises. Since this stage of sleeping has a great deal of dreaming and
brain involvement some scientists believe that dreaming is the brain s way of sorting out information
it receives during sleep, creating a story out of what it gathers. REM sleep could be considered as a

Consequences to Authoritarian Parenting
The complex exchange between parents and adolescence offers the prospect to influence the child
regularly. Parenting styles figures in as a prime part of a child s mental health and behaviour.
Parenting refers to the parent s actions and reactions to their child, including expectations, beliefs and
values. Diana Baumrind (1971, 1991), psychologist, based parenting on two aspects including control
and warmth. Baumrind used the combination of these aspects in different ways to identify the four
styles of parenting used today, consisted of, authoritative, authoritarian, permissive, and uninvolved
parenting. Authoritarian parenting, the strictest parenting style, is the method in which parents display
little warmth and are highly controlling. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This includes, the schools children attend, the foods consumed, and the environment the child grows
up in (Borkowski, 2000). Particularly, parenting styles have dissimilar effects towards a child with
different temperaments (Maccoby, 1983). A parent following an authoritarian parenting style will have
a very different atmosphere in the household from parents following a permissive style. With the
environment, children grow to follow different, predicted behaviour. As it is proven that parenting is a
major influence on children, authoritarian parenting does have an effect on child rearing and shapes
the mental health and behaviour of the child. The children of authoritarian parents portray similar
consistent negative behaviours and mental health patterns. This parenting style has been found to
relate to disruptive behaviors and relational aggression (Bierman Smoot, 1991; Casas ed al., 2006;
Hart et al., 1998; Dekovic Janssens, 1992; Kopko, 2007; Dewar, 2010 2013). The adolescence feel
rejected and grow to show prosocial behaviour (Dekovic Janssens, 1992; Underwood et al, 2009).
They do not intend to help other people. Some teens become rebellious because they do not like living
so rigidly and want to disobey their parents (Kopko, 2007). According to many studies done, children
raised by authoritarian parents feel reluctant to confess wrongdoings to authority figures, even if the
authority figures are researchers who promise to keep

Public Education System Essay
The public education system in the U.S. today is comparable to the system in 1852. It has improved in
some areas, such as 80% of students are graduating high school, but they do not know what to do
afterwards in real life or in college (Lynch). They both cover a certain amount of curriculum classes
and a basic skill of memorization and repetition. Nevertheless the U.S. has a higher average IQ than
other countries, the educational system needs to be changed significantly (World data). Reducing the
size of the class, giving less homework, and starting the school later in the day could help enhance
student learning, allowing greater achievements for our country and the world. Reduction of a class
size would have a remarkable increase in a student s intellectual learning. Studies have shown that
reducing a class significantly can surge a student s achievement level by up to 3 months (Chingos and
Whitehurst). Smaller classes would help teachers help other students personally by using other
teaching methods. Also, students would not fear to ask for assistance or speak up considering there ...

comprehend the way they are taught, and are given homework, they will cheat in order to get a decent

Homework also denies the ability to pursue hobbies and after school activities. Correspondingly
students that do not pursue their hobbies slowly start to descend their communication with family and
friends. Many students have lost the desire to learn, because of the large amount of homework. This
causes disruptions, poor grades, and most importantly drastically decreases the achievement level.

Stop And Frisk Research Paper
Stop and frisk has two components that define the stop element as well as the frisk element. The stop
element is defined as when a law enforcement officer briefly detains an individual, and the officer has
reasonable suspicion to believe a crime has occurred, is occurring, or is about to occur, and ask
questions of the individual regarding a preliminary investigation and excludes the requirement of
probable cause (Bethel, 2015). Furthermore, the frisk element may be conducted if the officer has
reasonable suspicion the individual has a weapon, and is performed as a limited pat down search of
the outer clothing on the individual detained by the officer (Bethel, 2015). If a weapon is discovered,
the officer is authorized to conduct a more in depth investigation. ... Show more content on

The same applications are among law enforcement agencies across the nation, however, every law
enforcement agency shares the same mission to protect and to serve it s jurisdiction. In my humble
opinion, the scope for stop and frisk is an essential part of law enforcement s goal of keeping their
communities safe and protecting the citizens and it s properties. Where there s smoke, there s more
than likely going to be a fire that started the smoke or a source of heat that initiated the smoke. The
bureaucratic red tape has smothered a substantial amount of police tactics in the last several years and
common sense allows us to notice a serious decrease in respect towards law enforcement as well as
limited actions law enforcement can apply to situations because they appear too militarized or
overkill. For example, it was due to stop and frisk that allowed an officer to stop and frisk a suspect
named Wayne Williams in Atlanta, Georgia, after the officer heard a splash in a river nearby and
observed Williams driving off a bridge that went over the waterway. The officer was able to initiate a
stop and frisk, that led to the discovery of a murdered victim and identified the suspect because of this
tactic (Marcou, 2010). This is only one of many incidents of how this tactic is critical for law
enforcement to apply towards their overall goal of keeping citizen s and their communities

valuable information I would learn throughout the course of the year. The only advanced English class

knowledge of writing, grammar and form that has helped me through my four essays in this class.

It is important to keep the audience in mind when writing the essay to state the proper things, address
the right points and point out valid counterarguments. In my first essay I was not entirely sure how to
write to my desired audience or how to say the right things to appeal to them. I had never heard of or
used logos, pathos or ethos in an essay until this class. Now I understand the importance of
incorporating them. They add an element of realness and honesty to the essay that one would not have
had before using these strategies. One essay that shows the growth of this skill is my Analyzing a

knowing my audience was mainly environmental activists, I had to make sure I appealed to their
passionate, caring side by using the rhetorical strategy pathos. Using pathos in an essay makes people
feel intense emotions, such as sadness or grief, which makes them want to take further actions and do
anything they can to help the cause being presented. Being able to address specific audiences will
never stop being a valuable skill. I can use it in my future college classes, community and career. It is

  • 2. Abramovic Performance Art Performance art is an artistic format that combines the visual with physical. The open ended medium possesses endless variables and possibilities of immaterial means of connecting art to the body. In the feminist art movement, performance art provided a bridge that connected women to their bodies. When relating to the female form, performance art serves a command, rather than an invitation. Artists involved in this movement challenged their roles in the art world as well as in a society. While the idea of the female form has been a tradition found in classical art, the female nude continued to be defined and created by men. It wasn t until the performance art movement that women began to fully emerge from their stereotypical submissive image ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this work, Abramovic brushes her hair repeatedly while saying the title repetitively. By stating the standard of female beauty in art, the performance makes the audience aware of the discriminatory gender roles and creates a feeling of discomfort. While the beginning of the performance is striking, the continuous act of bushing hair changing from aggressive and violent to calm and poetic, makes the audience unsettled. However, as the performance continues and the actions continue to weave through different emotions, the piece becomes incredibly profound. The act of saying that the artist must be beautiful becomes hauntingly human. By repeating this line, Abramovic challenges conventional beauty standards and calls upon modern female desires to be physically beautiful. Not only does the performance extract from physical appearance, the piece questions whether art must be beautiful. In performance art, the actions often challenge the performer and bring it to the extreme by putting emotional and physical stress on the artist s body and mind. Art must be Beautiful, Artist Must be Beautiful puts continuous stress upon the artist s body by reclaiming the figure as the artists own and exposing the harsh realities of social expectations. Consequently, as an artist, Mariana Abramovic s piece challenges physical beauty and changes the relationship between the artist and her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Value Of Education In The United States An investment in knowledge pays the best interest. Benjamin Franklin Benjamin Franklin lived in the eighteen century. He attended but did not graduate from the Boston Latin School. However, Franklin was a very educated man. Franklin continued educating himself, after withdrawing from the Boston Latin school, through other means such as reading. Nevertheless, Franklin acknowledges the importance of education. Today, the value of education is often preached. However, many of the United States` policies do not reflect on the so called importance of education. For example, The United States spends 20% on Wars and only 3% on education. This tells us that the United States do not care as much about education as we do about the wars. With such a low investment in education, the United States has fallen behind in terms of education. However, there are signs everywhere that the United States needs to invest more in education. For example, one was considered an educated man if he graduated high school in the 1960`s. Thus, many viewed two and four year universities as luxuries. Fast forward fifty years later, even careers that are entry level jobs strongly recommend having a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It keeps the poor at the bottom of the food chain and allow for the rich to continually grow more prosperous. For many poor people in the U.S. who seek to become more educated, public Universities seem to be the answer. However, even public universities are no longer free for them. Many poor people graduate from public universities in debt. Entering a very uncertain workforce and in debt, many people find themselves settling for jobs where they are overqualified just to survive. Thus, they take low paying jobs that will never allow them to pay back their loans and live a better life. To give everyone equal opportunity for economic advancement, I suggest making public universities free for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Marie-Bealer Sangee Lauder Quotes In the book all the lights we cannot see, the prevailing mystery is whether or not the sea of Flames is cursed. The curse was this: the keeper of the stone would live forever, but so long as he kept it, misfortunes would fall on all those he loved one after another in unending rain. But if the keeper threw the diamond into the sea, thereby delivering it to its rightful recipient, the goddess would lift the curse. Page 21. The character in this book, Marie Laure, has to decipher the exact facts from the rumors that are circulating about the sea of Flames. This is due to the fact that one day it s a cluster of rare magnesium hydroxy carbonate; the next it s a star sapphire that will set a man s hand on fire if he touches it. Then it becomes a diamond, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Marie Laure then has to try and find out if the diamond and the curse are real by asking the one person she trust; her dad. Logical, he tells her They re just stories page 51 he also tells her that curses are only stories cooked up to deter thieves page 52. Yet it seems that everyone else around her blames any thing that goes wrong on the diamond. Later on, even her father starts to believe in the curse when things start to go wrong. That would be when he gets to Monsieur Giannot s house hoping to fulfill his duties get some food but instead he find that Monsieur Giannot has moved. This is when he has to reason with himself and remember that a diamond is only a piece of carbon compressed in the bowels of the earth for eons and driven to the surface in a volcanic pipe. Someone facets it, someone polishes it. It can harbor a curse no more than a leaf can, or a mirror, or a life. There is only chance in this world, chance and physics. Page 108/109. It is only near the end of the book that Marie Laure realizes that she has the diamond. This is when she starts to question whether or not there really is a curse, which in turns leads to a ... How Did The Pope s Return To Poland Jack Kenny Professor Eaton Russian Revolutions 9 November 2015 The Slavic Pope s Return to Poland: An Analysis of language and common themes used by the pope to influence Poland Introduction Thesis: A Slavic Pope Stands behind the Iron Curtain Bells tolled and Poles exclaimed as their native son, Karol Jozef Wojtyla, returned to his homeland on June 2, 1979 for the first time as Pope John Paul II. Upon his arrival to Okęcie, the location of the Warsaw Airport, Pope John Paul II knelt and kissed the ground of his beloved homeland. Huge crowds of Poles lined the streets of Warsaw as Pope John Paul II moved to Victory Square to prepare for Mass. Many people could not believe that such a hopeful figure had been permitted to come to Poland ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The will of the Polish people now led the state. The Polish people realized during Pope John Paul s first papal visit to Poland that the communist state had legitimacy only through fear and propaganda. Many Poles came to this realization when following the television coverage of the papal visit because the communist state covered the event as if the visit was only a small gathering. The communist officials covered the event in such a way to control the public s reaction to the pope s visit, but the Poles in attendance realized the deception the communist officials were using in the television coverage of the event. Pope John Paul s visit to Poland seemed prophetic to the Poles. They now had a world leader willing to oppose the ills of their communist state. Pope John Paul expressed the positive outlook he had for the Polish people when he said, I am asking all of you, through the great Eucharistic prayer, that Christ will not cease to be for us an open book of life for the future, for our Polish future . Pope John Paul invested in the Polish people and his language of love eventually broke through in the communist state of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Discrepancy Between Anaerobic And Aquatic Analysis There is a discrepancy regarding anaerobic and aerobic capacity between different species of marine organisms. Anaerobic metabolism does not need oxygen to transform glucose to pyruvate (Somero, 1980). Type II fibers are found in anaerobic glycolysis. These fibers consist of white muscle that can be used quickly but are also scarce when it comes to prolonged use. White muscle fibers are primarily used in organisms that have short bursts of strong energy (Dickson, 1993). To focus on the white muscle fibers, any red muscle fibers were not allowed in the samples (Somero, 1980). To keep consistency, my group tried to take muscle samples from the same spot on each species because of possible contamination if the muscle was extracted from other areas. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They prefer to be in sandy areas in shallow or deep water (Chesapeake Bay). Croakers are bottom feeders which means that they eat food on the ocean floor. This is because they are found in deep water. A bottom feeder diet includes other small fish and crustaceans (Chesapeake Bay). Shrimp can tolerate any level of salinity and prefer to live in the bottom of shallow waters (Arnott, Neil, Ansell 1998). They typically feed on small fish and algae. They are also well known for their unique escape mechanism of flipping off the sea floor and diving into the sediment to get away from predators (Arnott, Neil, Ansell 1998). This short duration of spontaneous movement requires lots of white muscle fibers. The objectives of this experiment were to gain the knowledge of how to perform an enzyme assay, compare the LDH activity in three species, and to associate the LDH activity values with the capacity for anaerobic metabolism. My group originally thought that all three of these organisms would have higher LDH levels due to their daily activities. However due to more in depth background information about their behaviors, my group hypothesized that croakers would have the highest LDH activity levels due to their continuous migration between multiple habitats. This constant movement requires a lot of energy. Our results showed that lizardfish had the highest LDH activity values as opposed to our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sodium Bicarbonate Synthesis Lab Experiment 1: After 10% sodium bicarbonate solution adds to the dichloromethane solution, which dissolves the mixture of benzoic acid, 2 naphthol, and 1,4 dimethoxybenzene, and shake the separatory funnel, there are hissing sounds as well as when 10% sodium hydroxide solution is added. Also, when the separatory funnel is vented, gas, carbon dioxide, rushes out. The first extraction allows benzoic acid to be isolated. Through adding 10% sodium bicarbonate solution, the weak base removes the proton of benzoic acid, a stronger acid compared with 2 naphthol, which turns benzoic acid into charged form. After the heating, the color of the solution becomes lighter than before when sodium hydroxide and 2 naphthol are added to ethanol, from dark brown to lighter one. After suction filtration, 2 butoxynaphthalene crystals are brownish yellow. Wet mass of 2 butoxynaphthalene is greater than the dry one because water in the sample is present. • 9. Argumentative Essay On Hero Vs Monster Hero Versus Monster The classic story of hero versus monster has been around for as long as we as human have been telling them. There is something about a good hero, or even more so a good monster that fascinates and intrigues the human mind. We love stories of underdogs prevailing against the odds just as much as we enjoy the monsters they are put up against. Modern day hero versus monster stories take place between radically different parties then that of early human history however. Often today the hero and the monster can be the same person, with ourselves being our worst enemies. Back in early human history, complications, disagreements, and issues generally took place between two parties. Introspection, the examination or observation of one s own mental and emotional processes, was not as prevalent as it is today. While our modern day society still deals with issues between two individuals, many of the issues we are confronted with now are internal struggles with ourselves. Low ... The term hero in modern day English is defined as someone who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities, but who and as well as what makes a hero is more up to the eyes of the beholder than anything else. While a hero for many is someone that plays a role model figure in their lives, many a time do they forget that they themselves are one of the most heroic and courageous persons in their lives. Tasks such as overcoming crippling depression, working up the courage to step out of one s comfort zone and try something new, or working through a traumatic death in a family are all examples of invisible heroes, heroes that cannot be seen but are felt instead. These invisible heroes play a role in shaping us into who we are, and many times fight battles within us that we do not even know are taking ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hiking, biking, hunting, fishing, visiting national parks, examining wildlife, and traveling: these are the primary outdoor recreational activities in the United States. LFTR s are a hypothetical and innovative solution to the future of power production which are a viable replacement of the current flawed uranium reactors. Using LFRS s as a nuclear energy source poses a number of advantages for the long run and short term. Many countries such as China and India are currently heading towards LFTR s as a main source of energy. The LFTR offers unparalleled safety features in contrast to other conventional nuclear reactors, ensuring that incidents such as Fukushima will never occur again. Thorium, which is the element used to fuel LFTR s, is three times more abundant than uranium (World Nuclear, 2015). Mitochondrial Enzyme Lab Report Project 1: Testing for the Activity of a Mitochondrial Enzyme Team Members: Trenton Montgomery, Nathan Lindsey, Natalie Rapp Section: Biology 1411:0A24 Author: Collin Poesch Date: 10/12/2017 Questions and Hypotheses Introduction: Cells contain a number of different organelles, specialized structures living within cells(Mcallister and Leicht 2017). When a cell tissue is grinded down and mixed into a soupy mixture, the organelles can be separated using a process called centrifugation. The soupy mixture is placed in a centrifuge which spins the mixture at high speeds. This results in the denser and heavier organelles ending up in the bottom the the tube which is called the pellet. The lighter and less dense organelles remain in the liquid portion called the supernatant. This process can be repeated many times(Mcallister and Leicht 2017). ... Some of the pregnancy control measures that existed before the invention of the pill included abstinence and withdrawal. Unfortunately, such methods often failed to prevent unintended pregnancies. As such, birth control advocates continued researching for effective birth control methods. Americans did not meet the idea of birth control methods with enthusiasm. In fact, those who advocated the use of birth control devices experienced challenges, including being jailed. In the 1950s, birth control pills were introduced in the United States (Windsor, 2002). Over the past seven decades, the pill has changed the American women s lives in several ways. The pills have allowed women to delay marriages, invest in their career development, and secure well paid jobs in areas that were previously dominated by men. For women, people are biased against them because people think that women cannot do a job that is considered a man`s job, or they aren`t strong enough to do specific tasks. Women are judged when they are playing sports like soccer because reporters would ask them how is it like playing with other girls? It s as their almost saying, Are you ok with girls that might be lesbian? There is also a bias for minorities as well because of there is a society filled with the same race or gender, and then people from all over the world start to accumulate, some people might fear that their jobs are at stake because the minority are trying to assimilate to society and are trying to find jobs that are worthy for them to succeed in. Even though for minorities, you see them areas of work, they are starting to expand their horizon and make a name for themselves not just limited to specific jobs. Letting this go entirely probably won`t happen but if society learns to corporate with different cultures and backgrounds, they are small steps to be made but society has to start somewhere. We ve debated what it means to be a great teacher. I believe most of the theories we discussed could be incorporated much more in the classroom. John Dewey, Friedrich Froebel, Maria Montessori, and Lev Vygotsky all understood the way children think and the importance of imaginative play. Maslow is still relevant to managers today. In order to motivate someone a manager must understand what level of hierarchy the person is on and focus on satisfying that level and those above it. To expound further, while ADEs may result from oversights related to prescribing or dispensing, 26 32% of all erroneous drug interventions occur during the nursing administration and monitoring phases (Anderson Townsend, 2010). These mollifiable mishaps not only create a formidable financial burden for health care systems, they also carry the potential of imposing irreversible physiological impairment to patients and their families. In an effort to ameliorate cost inflation, undue detriment, and the potential for litigation, a multifactorial approach must be taken to improve patient outcomes. Key components in allaying drug related errors from a nursing perspective include: implementing safety and quality measures, understanding the roles and responsibilities of the nurse, embracing technological safeguards, incorporating interdisciplinary collaborative efforts, and continued emphasis upon quality control. From a pragmatic standpoint, the nurse is ultimately the last line of defense before a potential ADE reaches the patient (Tzeng, Yin, Schneider, 2013). As such, methods which promote quality and safety play a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Common Misconception Of The Brain s Five Stages Of Sleep It is a common misconception that when we fall asleep, our brains go to sleep as well. This is most definitely not the case. Our brain is hard at work while we sleep; making memories, cleansing toxins, and many other activities. When falling asleep, our brains go through multiple stages, from triggering a loss in consciousness to highly erratic activity. Sleeping has five stages to it, the first being the state between wakefulness and sleep. This stage is often referred to as drowsy sleep due to the muscles in the body still being fairly active and the eyes roll around a bit. In this stage the brainwaves transition from erratic beta and gamma waves, which is the normal range of brain wavelengths when the body is awake, to less erratic alpha ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The brain activity during REM sleep is mainly mixed brain waves consisting of theta, alpha and beta waves. This is also the point in a sleep cycle where the body is basically rigid. The brain has shut off all muscle movements other than the ones that keep you alive. This stage is a prime example of how the brain is busy while we are sleeping, REM sleep begins with signals from an area at the base of the brain called the pons. These signals travel to a brain region called the thalamus, which relays them to the cerebral cortex the outer layer of the brain that is responsible for learning, thinking, and organizing information. The pons also sends signals that shut off neurons in the spinal cord, causing temporary paralysis of the limb muscles (Brain Basics). Being that REM sleep deals with learning, scientists believe this is the reason infants sleep a large amount of time and also why they are more susceptible to being woken up by the slightest noises. Since this stage of sleeping has a great deal of dreaming and brain involvement some scientists believe that dreaming is the brain s way of sorting out information it receives during sleep, creating a story out of what it gathers. REM sleep could be considered as a work out for your brain, helping us to make sense of what we experience throughout our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Consequences to Authoritarian Parenting The complex exchange between parents and adolescence offers the prospect to influence the child regularly. Parenting styles figures in as a prime part of a child s mental health and behaviour. Parenting refers to the parent s actions and reactions to their child, including expectations, beliefs and values. Diana Baumrind (1971, 1991), psychologist, based parenting on two aspects including control and warmth. Baumrind used the combination of these aspects in different ways to identify the four styles of parenting used today, consisted of, authoritative, authoritarian, permissive, and uninvolved parenting. Authoritarian parenting, the strictest parenting style, is the method in which parents display little warmth and are highly controlling. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This includes, the schools children attend, the foods consumed, and the environment the child grows up in (Borkowski, 2000). Particularly, parenting styles have dissimilar effects towards a child with different temperaments (Maccoby, 1983). A parent following an authoritarian parenting style will have a very different atmosphere in the household from parents following a permissive style. With the environment, children grow to follow different, predicted behaviour. As it is proven that parenting is a major influence on children, authoritarian parenting does have an effect on child rearing and shapes the mental health and behaviour of the child. The children of authoritarian parents portray similar consistent negative behaviours and mental health patterns. This parenting style has been found to relate to disruptive behaviors and relational aggression (Bierman Smoot, 1991; Casas ed al., 2006; Hart et al., 1998; Dekovic Janssens, 1992; Kopko, 2007; Dewar, 2010 2013). The adolescence feel rejected and grow to show prosocial behaviour (Dekovic Janssens, 1992; Underwood et al, 2009). They do not intend to help other people. Some teens become rebellious because they do not like living so rigidly and want to disobey their parents (Kopko, 2007). According to many studies done, children raised by authoritarian parents feel reluctant to confess wrongdoings to authority figures, even if the authority figures are researchers who promise to keep ... • 35. Public Education System Essay The public education system in the U.S. today is comparable to the system in 1852. It has improved in some areas, such as 80% of students are graduating high school, but they do not know what to do afterwards in real life or in college (Lynch). They both cover a certain amount of curriculum classes and a basic skill of memorization and repetition. Nevertheless the U.S. has a higher average IQ than other countries, the educational system needs to be changed significantly (World data). Reducing the size of the class, giving less homework, and starting the school later in the day could help enhance student learning, allowing greater achievements for our country and the world. Reduction of a class size would have a remarkable increase in a student s intellectual learning. Studies have shown that reducing a class significantly can surge a student s achievement level by up to 3 months (Chingos and Whitehurst). Smaller classes would help teachers help other students personally by using other teaching methods. Also, students would not fear to ask for assistance or speak up considering there ... If a student does not comprehend the way they are taught, and are given homework, they will cheat in order to get a decent grade. Evidently, students that do this do not learn the material causing them to do poorly on tests. Homework also denies the ability to pursue hobbies and after school activities. Correspondingly students that do not pursue their hobbies slowly start to descend their communication with family and friends. Many students have lost the desire to learn, because of the large amount of homework. This causes disruptions, poor grades, and most importantly drastically decreases the achievement level. Student s attitudes will become greater and have the urge to try drugs, tobacco, and alcohol to lower their amounts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Stop And Frisk Research Paper Stop and frisk has two components that define the stop element as well as the frisk element. The stop element is defined as when a law enforcement officer briefly detains an individual, and the officer has reasonable suspicion to believe a crime has occurred, is occurring, or is about to occur, and ask questions of the individual regarding a preliminary investigation and excludes the requirement of probable cause (Bethel, 2015). Furthermore, the frisk element may be conducted if the officer has reasonable suspicion the individual has a weapon, and is performed as a limited pat down search of the outer clothing on the individual detained by the officer (Bethel, 2015). If a weapon is discovered, the officer is authorized to conduct a more in depth investigation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The same applications are among law enforcement agencies across the nation, however, every law enforcement agency shares the same mission to protect and to serve it s jurisdiction. In my humble opinion, the scope for stop and frisk is an essential part of law enforcement s goal of keeping their communities safe and protecting the citizens and it s properties. Where there s smoke, there s more than likely going to be a fire that started the smoke or a source of heat that initiated the smoke. The bureaucratic red tape has smothered a substantial amount of police tactics in the last several years and common sense allows us to notice a serious decrease in respect towards law enforcement as well as limited actions law enforcement can apply to situations because they appear too militarized or overkill. For example, it was due to stop and frisk that allowed an officer to stop and frisk a suspect named Wayne Williams in Atlanta, Georgia, after the officer heard a splash in a river nearby and observed Williams driving off a bridge that went over the waterway. The officer was able to initiate a stop and frisk, that led to the discovery of a murdered victim and identified the suspect because of this tactic (Marcou, 2010). This is only one of many incidents of how this tactic is critical for law enforcement to apply towards their overall goal of keeping citizen s and their communities ... • 38. General Studies Writing Class Analysis At the beginning of the semester I entered General Studies Writing 1110, not knowing what to expect. I knew the class was solely based on writing and perfecting personal style, but I never anticipated the valuable information I would learn throughout the course of the year. The only advanced English class I have taken in high school was English Honors in eighth grade. That class gave me the base knowledge of writing, grammar and form that has helped me through my four essays in this class. Starting out, I was not sure what the standard for passing was; even though it was unclear to me what passing was, I strove for perfection. By the time the second essay came around I realized my writing was never perfect. Peer editors and family played a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is important to keep the audience in mind when writing the essay to state the proper things, address the right points and point out valid counterarguments. In my first essay I was not entirely sure how to write to my desired audience or how to say the right things to appeal to them. I had never heard of or used logos, pathos or ethos in an essay until this class. Now I understand the importance of incorporating them. They add an element of realness and honesty to the essay that one would not have had before using these strategies. One essay that shows the growth of this skill is my Analyzing a Visual; in this essay I write to environmental activists and society as a whole. When writing this essay, knowing my audience was mainly environmental activists, I had to make sure I appealed to their passionate, caring side by using the rhetorical strategy pathos. Using pathos in an essay makes people feel intense emotions, such as sadness or grief, which makes them want to take further actions and do anything they can to help the cause being presented. Being able to address specific audiences will never stop being a valuable skill. I can use it in my future college classes, community and career. It is important to address the audience when making speeches for the community so they feel a connection with the speech. Connecting with people will allow ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
