This document discusses pre-production planning for a film project, including costume, filming/editing schedule, lighting, locations, contingency planning, and health and safety considerations. Costume will portray the main character's progression from negative to positive through dull to vibrant clothing. Filming will take 2 weeks with 2 additional weeks for editing and visual effects. Locations will include an abandoned barn and Weeton Lake Fisheries. Contingency plans address potential issues like lost footage, injuries, or location changes. Health and safety focuses on tripping hazards, heat/sun exposure, electrical safety, lifting, and spatial awareness on set.

3. Costume
For my main character, I would like to express certain
features and characteristics through costume. For
example, how glasses may portray intelligence. I would
like my character to wear dull clothes for the beginning as
the story will progress from a bad/negative feel to a more
good/positive one so I plan to portray this through the
characters costume. I would like my character to be
dressed basically without any distracting costumes that
would take away from the scenes however I would still
like them to be meaningful. My character will wear an
item of denim as I believe this gives a rough look to the
character so possible denim jeans or jacket would be
suitable. The white shirt represents a black canvas and
emptiness that the character is feeling in the film whilst
the boots join with the trousers to complete the rough
feel. I believe these elements will help to produce a larger
story to what is shown in the film and will make the
character and their attitude more questionable to the
audience. The items of costume will either be borrow or
potentially bought however there is little to no budget
unless imperative.

4. Filming,
Editing and
Planning
The last 4 weeks of my schedule will be
dedicated to production. This involves both
shooting and editing. As I plan to feature a
large amount of visual effects I would like to
dedicate 2 weeks to shooting and 2 weeks to
editing and maybe even run into some of my
contingency time to finish. I will be shooting
with a Canon 700d DSLR camera and will use
equipment such as a shoulder mount and a
tripod. I will also be using a Phantom 3
standard drone as I plan to do some birds
eye view shots and aerial pans to create
some effective establishing shots. I will be
editing with Adobe CC programs and
primarily Photoshop, Premiere Pro and After
Effects which I have been experimenting
with prior to starting this project.

5. Lighting and
Colours
The colours used in my scenes will represent the
overall theme of the scene. I plan to do this by
having the more negative scenes to use lots of blue
and darker colder colours to signify loss and
bitterness whilst the positive scenes will feature a
more vibrant pallete by using oranges and teals in
conjunction with the blues to bring skin tones and
sunlight into the forefront more. I will research
different LUTs and play around with lumetri settings
in Premiere Pro when editing the first draft of my
film. This will also add a dramatic dynamic to the
piece as it will create another element of drama to
the piece and will help portray emotion and
atmosphere throughout.

6. Location
For the abandoned environment, I have
chosen a rundown barn near my house
in Knaresborough. The barn is contained
in farm land which I assume is private so
I would have to research into the owners
of the land to possibly get a location
release and filming permission. However
the premises has been abandoned for
decades so I believe it is safe to assume
that I can enter the premises without
complication however I will still try to
find an owner that I can speak to and ask
for permission. As the building is derelict
is and visually broken down I assume
that the building is not structurally safe
so I will conduct a preliminary
assessment first to check if the location is
safe. I will then create a location specific
risk assessment from this assessment to
ensure that the actors and all crew are
safe.

7. Location
Another location I have found is the
Weeton Lake Fisheries on the outskirts of
Leeds. It is easily accessible by train and
is open to the public for a fee. This will
be easy to transport cast and crew to and
from the location. The lake is private
property and is run by paying an entry
fee so I would assume the owners will
have no problem with me filming shortly
on location however I will ask prior to
entering. I will also offer the owners free
promotional photos in exchange for
using the land due to them not having
many decent marketing material on their
social media or business sites. I have
sourced a business phone number which
I will contact before planning.

8. Contingency Planning

9. Health and Safety
Potential Issue How will the issue be

Tripping over wires Ensure wires all taped down or safely hidden
Heatstroke/Sunburn Protection is necessary if working out in the
sun. Carry water to avoid exhaustion and
dehydration and sunscreen if applicable
Damaged electricals Use PAT tested equipment and avoid water
around electricals
Lifting injuries Do not lift objects that you believe will be too
heavy. Ask someone to assist and lift correctly
Time limitations Do not rush any processes as this is a cause of
carelessness and injury
Spatial awareness Make sure crew who are set to move know
their specific routes are not obstructed
