 Leonardo da Vinci was a Renaissance painter, sculptor, architect, inventor,
military engineer and draftsman Da Vinci studied the laws of science and
nature, which greatly informed his work. His drawings, paintings and other
works have influenced countless artists and engineers over the centuries.
LEONARDO DA VINCI
 Leonardo Da Vinci was born in in , Italy on April 15, 1452.
 Young da Vinci received little formal education beyond basic reading,
writing and mathematics instruction, but his artistic talents were evident
from an early age.
FAMOUS PAINTING:
THE MONA LISA
 Leonardo da Vinci’s greatest masterpiece was the “Mona Lisa” which is
recognized as the best known, the most visited, the most written about, the
most sung about, the most parodied work of art in the world because of its
emotional depth and Mona Lisa’s mysterious smile.
 In 1503, da Vinci started working on what would become his most well-
known painting and arguably the most famous painting in the world the
“Mona Lisa.”
Michelangelo was born on march 6, 1475 in Italy. He was an Italian
Renaissance sculptor, painter, architect, poet, and engineer. He was
considered the greatest living artist in his lifetime. Two of his best-known
works, the Pietà and David, were sculpted before he turned thirty. He also
created two of the most influential works in fresco in the history of Western
art: the scenes from Genesis on the ceiling and The Last Judgment on the
altar wall of the Sistine Chapel in Rome. At 74 he became the architect of St.
Peter's Basilica.
MICHELANGELO
FAMOUS PAINTING
 The Sistine Chapel is one of the most famous painted interior spaces in
the world, and virtually all of this fame comes from the breathtaking
painting of its ceiling from about 1508-1512. The chapel was built in 1479
under the direction of Pope Sixtus IV, who gave it his name (“Sistine”
derives from “Sixtus”).
THE SISTINE CHAPEL
Raphael was born on April 6, 1483 in Italy. Raphael’s father was a working
artist. This is where his interest and relationship with art . In 1504 he moved
to Florence, Italy. It was here that he was influenced by Leonardo De Vinci,
Michelangelo and Masaccio. In 1508, Raphael moved to Rome and was
working for the Vatican. Here he created “The School of Athens,” By 1514,
Raphael was famous for his work. At this stage of his life he was creating
portraits, frescos and architecture. On April 6, 1520, Raphael died in Rome,
Italy.
RAPHEAL
FAMOUS PAINTING
 The Sistine Madonna, is an oil painting by the Italian artist Raphael. The
painting was commissioned in 1512 by Pope Julius II for the church of
San Sisto, Piacenza, and probably executed c. 1513-1514.
THE SISTINE MADONNA
 The "Sistine Madonna" is one of the world's most famous Renaissance
masterpieces. It depicts a vision appearing to saints in the clouds. In the
center of the picture the Virgin strides towards the earthly realm whilst
holding the Christ Child in her arms.
Titian was born on 1488 in Italy. Titian is widely considered the greatest
Italian Renaissance painter of the Venetians school. He was recognized early
in his own lifetime as a supremely great painter, and his reputation in the
intervening centuries has never declined.
 The Assumption of the Virgin or Frari Assumption is a large altarpiece
panel painting in oils by the Italian renaissance artist titian, painted in
1515–1518. It remains in the position it was designed for, on the high altar
of the Frari church in Venice.
 This altarpiece by Titian, one of the most inspirational works of Christian
art, is surely among the greatest renaissance paintings of the Venetian
School. The largest work of its type in Venice (over 22 feet tall), it was
Titian's first major commissioned work in the city and took him two years
to paint.
TITIAN
FAMOUS PAINTING
THE ASSUMPTION OF THE VIRGIN
Sandro Botticelli was an Italian painter and designer of the Early
Renaissance, born in 1445 . During his lifetime he was one of the most
acclaimed painters in Italy. He was even brought to participate and advice in
the design of the Sistine Chapel in Rome.
SANDRO BOTTICELLI
FAMOUS PAINTING
 This is Sandro Botticelli’s most famous painting. It was based on
mythology, and was painted during a time of new ideas.
 The Primavera, the title of which means “Spring”, is among the greatest
works at the Museum in Florence. The precise meaning of the painting is
unknown, but it was probably created for the marriage of Lorenzo in
May, 1482.
