Liars Poker Analysis

Liar s Poker Analysis
The book Liar s Poker begins with Michael Lewis, the author saying Wall Street, reads the sinister
old gag, is a street with a river at one end and a graveyard at the other. This quote, symbolizing
competitiveness, refers to the river as growth and prosperity and the graveyard as death in a
company proves to be the fundamental principle that led Michael Lewis to write this book. The
book portrays Michael Lewis time with Salomon Brothers (SB), the largest bond dealer in the
1980s. It outlines the business model that SB used to maximize capital in the mortgage bond
market. By the mid 1980 s SB had become the most influential bond dealer in the market. ... Show

They were able to take advantage of the situation and control the market by offering whatever
price they thought was fitting. Even though this seemed like a genius play it was by stroke of
luck that this was all able to happen. If interest rates remained fixed SB would have never been
as successful as history tells us and the mortgage bond division would have probably been
terminated in the near future. Even though floating interest rates was a stroke of luck, SB was
able to take full advantage of the situation while it lasted. Since SB was already inept to
mortgage bonds they were able to compete at the top of the market far before anyone could even
enter. It is said that SB had monopolized the mortgage bond market and were able to set the price
buying and selling bonds rapidly. The change to floating rates may have been lucky but the
determination, skill and grit of SB to dominate the mortgage bond market was what led them to
become wealthy in the early 1980s. Michael Lewis success within the business is a microcosm
for the business as a whole. Michael Lewis started as an unsuccessful Art Major out of Princeton.
He got his big break when he attended a dinner for the Queen Mother at St. James Palace. At this
point in his career, Lewis became interested in Wall Street due to the fact that that is where the
money was at. While he was at this dinner he

History on the War on Drugs Essay

October 26, 2010
History of the War on Drugs The war on drugs has been an ongoing fight that many presidents and
foreign allegiances have tried to stop the trafficking, distribution and use of illegal drugs into the
United States and around the world. Policy and laws have been created and maintained and
changed to try and prevent illegal drugs being made in other countries as well as the United States
and from being brought across the borders into the United States. The punishment for the drug
traffickers and users has been an issue with the campaign to stop illegal drug use and trafficking.
Through the United States history the president s and their administration have been focusing on
how to deal with the war on drugs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) was initiated in schools all over the United States in
1983 to inform students about the effects drugs cause and to make children and their parents
more aware of the drug problem in the U.S. (Frontline). Under Reagan, the federal prison
population doubled. Young offenders and non violent drug users were sent to Special Alternative
Incarceration boot camps, where they were brainwashed with yet more anti drug propaganda, to
undermine their subversive attitudes. The President declared the War on Drugs to be one of the
major achievements of his administration, while the international narcotics trade thrived and
cannabis prices sky rocketed. Then in July 1984, the Washington Times published a story about
DEA informant Barry Seal s infiltration of the Medellin cartel s operation in Panama. The story
showed that Nicaraguan Sandinistas were involved in the drug trade. As a result of Seal s
evidence, a Miami federal grand jury indicts Carlos Lehder, Pablo Escobar, Jorge Ochoa and Jose
Gonzalo Rodriguez Gacha. In February 1986, Seal is killed in Baton Rouge, LA., by a gunmen
hired by the cartel (The Washington Times). For the first time Colombiaextradites the drug
traffickers to the U.S. in 1985. Then the U.S. officials discover that the Medellin cartel has a hit list
which included embassy members and their families, U.S. businessmen and journalists (NPR).

School Tryout Essay
There has long been a disagreement about whether schools should hold tryouts for competitive
sports teams, for the reason that many people hold varying opinions on this issue. Despite the fact
that an incredible amount of citizens believe that students should be allowed to participate in
athletics without trying out, numerous people disagree with that position. Some people argue that
tryouts are a traditional way to choose the best students on the spot, or instead, tryouts could result
as an emotional breakdown. But the truth of the matter is that students should be trying out for a
competitive sport team. One main reason is that having tryouts allows students to push to try
harder, and learn life lessons. The last reason is, if it weren t... Show more content on

Without tryouts, students wouldn t learn that not everything is handed to them for free. This is
why schools need to permit tryouts.
Another reason schools should execute tryouts is because if it weren t for tryouts, there would be
too many students on a team, and it can be chaotic. According to Dr. Allen Goldberg, he states, If
there s too many kids on one team, kids won t get the fair amount of playing time that they deserve.
(Goldberg, 2015). Skeptics believe that every student (either an advanced or average youth athlete)
should get the equivalent amount of playing time during a game, yet many disagree with the
opinion. Sharing play time with average students is unfair to children who are highly skilled in
this certain sport. For example, a spontaneous youth athlete can work very hard during practices,
while other athletes could slack off during the process. It is unfair to the athletes who are
concentrated during practices to share play time with students who do not work for the win at all.
They deserve the appropriate amount of playtime because they ve worked so hard during practices
for the particular game. This is also very huge because coaches want the most skilled children on
the team so they can achieve the gold. This is why tryouts should be handled with competitive
sports teams. Additionally, Budgets aren t large enough to cover all costs players need. (Matz,
2015). This statement shows that

Case Study Of Ford Pinto
Abstract:
This case is about the design of Ford Pinto specifically the gas tank that was in a dangerous place
that would ignite the car in a rear end collision. The problem is that Ford used a cost benefit
analysis not to upgrade the fuel system even if it lead to more deaths. This decision by Ford led to
many controversial issuses that relates to safety, risk, and conflict of interest decisions.

Brilliant Mathematicians from History Shape Math of Today
Mathematicians not only play an important role in society today, but all the brilliant math minds
from the past helped shape every mathematical theory we know, study, and learn today. Math is
used every single day, in every continent, every country, every state, and every city. It is the way
we solve everyday problems. It is the way we calculate the distance from sun to earth, the way
we determine amount of miles one drives from their home to work, the way we estimate our
grocery bill before approaching a register, the way we figure out the probability of failing or
passing a test, it is the way we as humans approach, solve, and conclude problems we face day in,
and day out. There are a various amount of languages spoken to communicate in our world
today, but math is one that people from all different parts of planet earth understand, and use for
the same purposes. Mathematicians are in a way, unsung heroes, without their discoveries, we
would be lost, confused, and not nearly as intelligent. Gauss was one of those heroes. Carl
Freidrich Gauss was a German mathematician and a physical scientist also known as the Prince of
Mathematics . He was born on April 30th, 1777 in Brunswick, Germany and was born to poor,
working class parents. His mother was illiterate and his father was a gardener/brick layer. His
father did not want Gauss to attend school, he wanted him to stay in the family business; but

Globe Theater History
The famous Globe Theater had history behind being built, an amazing structure, and tons of
expenses. The Globe Theater s history behind being built was based off the period of life that it
was built in. After the plague ended in the 1800s, there was a company of actors known as the
Lord Chamberlain s Men who needed a theatre to perform in. This group is where Shakespeare
was first known to be part of. Many theatres were unable to reopen in England after the plague
ended. The group performed in the Cross Keys Inn for a little while while looking for a theatre
but there were restrictions for performing inside of the city s limits. Shakespeare was the lead
playwright for the group by the time the plans for the Globe came about. This group of actors
were not the only actors that were struggling at the time because the Theatre, which was a main
place for plays to be performed was closed after the lease for the land had expired and the owner
refused to renew the lease. This sent Cuthbert and Richard Burbage, the sons of the original owner
of the Theater who had died, into an outrage. They decided to build a new playhouse located in
Bankside of London (Wright 71 76). The theater became famous for being the place where

Reusing the wood saved money for the Burbages but there was still the cost of renting or owning
the land that the theatre was on. The solution to this problem was having multiple shares of the
land. These shares were bought by Lord Chamberlain s Men like Shakespeare s father and the
Burbage brothers, who now owned the theatre. Actors owning the theatre that they acted in was
something that had never happened before this time. This gave the theatre an advantage since they
could save money by not having to pay rent. They also did not have to worry about being kicked
off the land because this was the permanent home (Morley

Ssg Frazier Legacy
In this paper, I will be explaining what a legacy leader is and the impact one specific leader had
on my career and the Army. In December of 2011 I reported to Joint Base Lewis McCord and
was assigned to 1/17 IN BN part of 2nd Striker BDE Combat Team. I had arrived at a unit that
was preparing for a hard deployment to Afghanistan after a vigorous training cycle. I had walked
in to my office to meet the team I would be leading into a combat zone that had zero experience,
except for SSG Frazier that had a been there done that attitude. SSG Frazier was not as focused as
a leader should be when prepping for a deployment with new Soldiers. The area that our unit
would move to was the area that the Taliban was founded by Mullah Omar in Zhari District
Southern Afghanistan (RC South). I had to quickly adjust to a high operation temp of a unit getting
ready to deploy with little to no experience. After meeting SSG Frazier, I decided to meet the BN
Commander and CSM to get a better understanding of the mission and expectation from the
leadership. When I... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

understanding. We all, as Soldiers, make mistakes; but we are not defined by the mistakes we
make but by the actions we take afterward to improve ourselves as Soldiers. Great leaders are not
defined by their accomplishments, but by the positive effect they have on their soldiers and the

B-2 Spirit Essay
The Northrop (later Northrop Grumman) B 2 Spirit, also known as the Stealth Bomber, is an
American heavy penetration strategic bomber, featuring low observable stealth technology
designed for penetrating dense anti aircraft defenses; it is a flying wing design with a crew of
two.[1][4] The bomber can deploy both conventional and thermonuclear weapons, such as eighty
500 lb (230 kg) class (Mk 82) JDAM Global Positioning System guided bombs, or sixteen 2,400 lb
(1,100 kg) B83 nuclear bombs. The B 2 is the only acknowledged aircraft that can carry large air to

Congress and among the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The winding down of the Cold Warin the latter
portion of the 1980s dramatically reduced the need for the aircraft, which was designed with the
intention of penetrating Soviet airspace and attacking high value targets. During the late 1980s
and 1990s, Congress slashed plans to purchase 132 bombers to 21. In 2008, a B 2 was destroyed
in a crash shortly after takeoff, though the crew ejected safely.[5] A total of 20 B 2s remain in
service with the United States Air Force, which plans to operate the B 2 until 2058.[6]
The B 2 is capable of all altitude attack missions up to 50,000 feet (15,000 m), with a range of
more than 6,000 nautical miles (6,900 mi; 11,000 km) on internal fuel and over 10,000 nautical
miles (12,000 mi; 19,000 km) with one midair refueling. It entered service in 1997 as the second
aircraft designed to have advanced stealth technology after the Lockheed F 117 Nighthawk attack
aircraft. Though designed originally as primarily a nuclear bomber, the B 2 was first used in
combat, dropping conventional, non nuclear ordnance in the Kosovo War in 1999. It later served in

The Ordinary Men of the Holocaust
The average person s understanding of the Holocaust is the persecution and mass murder of Jews
by the Nazi s, most are unaware that the people behind the atrocities of the Holocaust came from

Christopher Browning s Ordinary Men: Reserve Battalion 101 and the Final Solution, and Jan Gross

The Jews were the enemy, and many men justified this by dehumanizing the Jews and distancing
themselves psychologically which enabled the continued killing.
Each of these novels takes on a different perspective of the Holocaust. The common theme among
each is that it was ordinary human beings who did extraordinary things during the Holocaust. The
average perception is that the perpetrators of the Holocaust were inherently evil, monstrous and
immoral people, they must have been to commit such heinous acts? This is not the case. It was
ordinary Europeans who for varying reasons including, wartime brutalization and lack of a
collective identity carried out much of the Nazi s Final Solution.

The Hr Issues Related On The Migration Failure Essay
In order to understand the HR issues involved in HPs migration failure, I started by looking at
the company s corporate culture from origins to date. I needed to determine what had changed as
Hewlett Packard already had numerous successful implementations previously given their vast
experience in the computer industry and there long established relationship with software
provider SAP. The current study identified that the founders of HP, Bill Hewlett Dave Packard
created an effective management style which contained a set of values that defined how they
wanted the company and its workforce to perform. This was known as the HP way . The main
emphasis was on innovation through creating new quality products that added value to their
customers requirements and secondly to create a supportive corporate culture as HPs employees
where seen as the company s biggest resource who together their capabilities accomplished
something for the greater good of the organisation. HPs employees where seen as the company s
biggest asset and in turn they were given the opportunity to share in the company s success
through profit sharing plans, they were given tuition to upskill, and the company offered flexi
time and job sharing programs to its employees. Having researched the concept of the HP way I
have discovered that many companies have also adopted this approach into their own business
practices the following points are my understanding of Hewlett Packard s core values

The Slavery Of The Cotton Gin By Eli Whitney
1.Many Americans had expected the practice of slavery to die. Americans were given this
impression in relation to decreasing tobacco production due to lack of fertile soil (Foner, 317).
However, Americans would be presented with factors that would lead to an expansion in slavery.
The expansion of slavery deteriorated already terrible conditions for slaves; slave families would
be separated and many female slaves faced imminent forced reproduction with studs or white
males. In the 1790 s the invention of the cotton gin by Eli Whitney sparked an increase in cotton
production in the South. The cotton gin decreased the labor time it took to pick seeds from the

American slave holders answered by creating more hardships and suffrage on slaves. While the
Northern states experienced a greater impact due to the market revolution the market revolution
also impacted slavery expansion. The introduction of new transportation and steam power
decreased the time it took to ship goods and improved canal production. As well, goods could now
travel up stream. The number of large cities near rivers and lakes increased and economics boomed
throughout the country. Due to the market revolution New England experienced an industrial
revolution. Work in factories created mass produced items that were previously made at home or
bought locally. This changed the American family structure, women were now working in mills.
Farmer s daughters worked in the textile mills and boarded nearby. Their leisure time was spent in
church or school. Families now had multiple sources of income, incomes would be impacted by the
arrival of German and Irish immigrants. Irish immigrants settled in New England and were willing
to work unskilled job for low wages, while Germans settled around the North and sought skilled
jobs for lower wages. The industrial revolution further alienated the North and South. Southern
states did not have the resources to benefit from the revolution. In 1819 Missouri requested through
congress to submit a state constitution in order to join the Union. Northern politicians

Sensorial Education in Montessori
Sensorial Education
Introduction to Sensorial
What is Sensorial Education?
Sensorial education can simply be defined as the training of senses of children for future learning.
What is Sensorial Work
Sensorial comes from the words sense or senses. It helps the child to be able to concentrate on the
refinement of all his senses, from visual to stereognostic.
The Purpose of Sensorial Work
The purpose and aim of Sensorial work is for the child to acquire clear, conscious, information and
to be able to then make classifications in his environment. Montessori believed that sensorial

The Effects Of Nature On The Hospital Setting
The use of nature in the hospital setting has been used to reduce stress and provide a getaway not
only for the patient but for visitors and hospital staff as well. A review article by Ulrich, Quan,
Zimring, Joseph, and Choudhary (2004) summarized the role of physical environment which
included nature. Nature is emphasized in providing a distraction for the patient from their illness
and the hospitalsetting. (Ulrich et al., 2004) Simply using pictures of nature has been found to
reduce anxiety and reduce the dosage of pain medications of patients in the ICU. (Ulrich, 2004)
The presence of nature through a bedside window was found to be just as beneficial in improving
the patients recovery and well being. (Ulrich 2004) The presence of nature dramatically reduced the
agitation of Alzheimer s patients when bathing with recorded nature sounds. (Ulrich, 2004)
Hospital gardenscan be a direct source of nature in proximity for patients that are easily
accessible. Scenic art can be soothing in comparison to a white wall. The descriptive colors can
stimulate the mind and provide a focal point away from medical devices. All these examples
support the claim that nature does remedy the stress patients feel in the hospital setting. It allows
patients to relax and have a sense of calm when confronting the daunting idea of fighting for their
lives against a sickness. Nature provides an escape that is outside the white walls of the hospital.

Stereotypes In I Am Sam
In the movie I am Sam the main character, Sam, is affected by autism and mental retardation. A
person affected by autism could show a number of different character traits. Some of the
characteristics that I noticed Sam portrayed that would be common of someone affected by autism
were; repetitive body movements, insistence on sticking to routines, limited understanding of non
verbal communication, stereotyped and repetitive use of language, impulsivity, and compulsive
behavior just to name a handful. I think that the actor Sean Penn does a good job at portraying a
man that falls on the autismspectrum. I think it is important to understand that no two people with a
disabilityare going to be the same.
Throughout the movie Sam experiences family, social, and occupational issues that are very
realistic for someone with a disability. The whole movie revolves around a family issue that is
unlikely yet could be a very real possibility for a person with a disability. A person who is
disabled but self sufficient enough to live on their own could potentially end up having a child
depending on their personal choices. Sam s dad was never in his life, his mom got sick, and he
became institutionalized until he was of age to live on his own. The movie does not give much
information on his prior support system or how he transitioned from the institution to becoming self
sufficient. I believe that Sam s situation reflects back on a question we discussed in class. Should

I Want to Become an Architect
Ever since I was young, I have admired intricate buildings and structures. I have always
appreciated a nice, well thought out home because I do believe home is where the heart is. I have
done lots of research on architecture, and what it takes to become an architect. I am naturally
drawn to this career because it requires lots of creativity and an eye for design. Being an architect
also allows you to interact with people, which is important to me because I am a social person. It
also is a steady job and brings in a good salary.
Through research, I have learned what exactly architects do before starting projects, and while
working on projects. A usual day for an architect usually consists in two settings: the office, or
sometimes the construction site where their idea is put to life. Usually in the office, they are
meeting with clients, preparing project specifications, and completing requirements and objectives
for upcoming projects. They also have to know how to manage construction contracts and create
scaled drawings by hand however, preparing drawings by computer design technology is more
common these days with new advanced, efficient computer programs. The typical day in the
office for an architect sounds nothing but ideal for me. One in five architects is self employed,
which is a significant number of self employed architects, and architects held 107,400 jobs in 2012.
It would be ideal for me to be self employed in my future because I like to be the boss and I am very

Anti Gun Violence Is A Non Profit Organization
States United to Prevent Gun Violence is a non profit organization that aims to decrease gun death
and injury. Gun Violence is the use of a gun to cause injury or death, intentional or accidental.
SUPGV s ad campaigns are very strong, emotional, and straight forward. This advertisement shows
an image of a typical paper target seen at most gunranges. There is a white outline inside the man s
figure of a woman and baby. In the top right hand corner is the text Bullets leave bigger holes
than you think. A scorekeeper is located in the adjacent corner. The purpose of this ad is to
persuade the audience to be anti gun violence by stimulating many emotions family, togetherness,
and even death. The effectiveness is shown through the simplicity of the ad, and it appeals to a
variety of audiences. Gun owners, specifically, are the intended audience due to the familiarity of
the target, but this takes on a different perspective. The designer condemns gun violence by
pathos of family, coloration and placement of figures, the element spacing, and timing. The main
way the designer condemns gun violence is through the idea of family. The silhouettes of the
man, woman, and baby grab your attention first. The viewer sees the image as actual people who
are being targeted. The designer combines the three images of a man, woman, and baby into a
single focus. The idea of a perfect American family a father and mother with a child is depicted
here. In today s society, Americans hold in

Essay On The Castle
I had never been in the third tier before. It was a place that I did not belong with my coarse shirts
and riding pants, even when they were not dirt covered. It was not just the clothes, there was no
illusion I could put on myself that would make me fit in. There was something about the way
they walked that spoke of wealth and sophistication. The gate to the fourth tier was even more
guarded, two guards on each side in full battle gear. The sound of footsteps drew up eyes upward to
see four more guards walking along the top of the wall, bows in hand. The increased security closer
to the castle made sense, but the fact that the lower tiers that had a higher population had less
protection seemed rather callous. I knew Terrans cared nothing... Show more content on

I could make out in the weak light. I was too panicked to take in details anyway. Instead of being
taken toward the large gate in front of me, I was directed along the wall. There was a small wooden
door set into the base of a drum tower in the wall. A guardsaluted and unlocked the heavy wooden
door. Kane let go of me and disappeared through it. I turned to look for an exit, but Captain
Saban was crowding me to go down. I could not move. I took a few deep breaths, but they all got

I put my hand out to feel the wall or anything and brushed against Kane. You ll get used to it in a

to see, just stone walls streaked with grime and water. After what seemed like ages of the
downward spiral, in which I thought we might walk into the center of the Earth where Terran held

The Sociological Impacts Of Ali Unal And The Spread Of Islam
However, Ali Unal implies there are many benefits and burdens that can be accomplished by
participating in a polygamous relationship. Alongside reducing the possibility of any extramarital
affairs, it also deals with the situation of gender ratios as many countries may have a larger female
population as compared to their male counterparts. Ali Unal s translation is in complete contrast to
the view proposed by MuhammadAsad. The Turkish author highlights the religious and historical
significance of polygamy in spreading the message of Islam. The argument was forwarded that the
marriages of Prophet Muhammad allowed for the development of deeper ties across Arabia even
amongst various tribes who trusted the Prophet for guidance as a result of the formation of new
relationships (Гњnal, 2008).If one was to argue for the permissibility of polygamy, it may be
implied that polygamy could spread the essence of Islam through such a way that individuals can
interpret the Quran through the positive actions from the spouses. It is evident both Muhammad
Asad and Ali Unal highlight Surah 4:3 but Ali Unal emphasises the positive sociological impact
such relationship can possess.
The counter view to the above point provides a crucial shift towards the idea that polygamy perhaps
should not be permissible in Muslim communities. It is stated in the Quran, 4:129
Ye are never able to be fair and just as between women, even if it is your ardent desire

How Social Class Affects My Family Life And Education
We are shaped by society s structures, is the primary concept of the idea developed by C. Wright
Mills (Henslin). In this paper, I will demonstrate how my social class affected my family life and
education.
World is composed of social stratification, a system which people are divided into layers based on
their property, power and prestige. This stratification labels people and causes them to think
accordingly within their own stratification. It can be expressed in four major groups as follows:
slavery, caste system, estate, and class. Though it can be described in slavery, caste system, and
estate, these are all old forms of social stratification that are not used commonly in the present.
Therefore, my paper will be focusing on the description of the class system.
In social stratification, class is the only system that approves social mobility. It is also a system
that is based on the physical possessions such as money and materials. Moreover, slass system is
the system that allowed me to think I can achieve upward social mobility. Therefore, I aim to be
part of a higher social class as I am currently a member of a working class, which is compsed of
relatively unskilled blue collar... [less secure jobs,] more routine, and more closely supervised
[jobs],(Henslin 268). I intend to achieve this goal by getting educated.

The Issue Of Health Care Systems

That common obstacle is innovating and implementing an efficient health care. Every country has

issue of health care systems are common, it is more severe in some countries than others. In
developing countries, access to care be very difficult. The biggest hurdle, for individuals in these
countries, is healthcare can be a minimum of 5 miles away. In developed countries, health care is

the doctor (pnhp.org.) In addition, most doctors are government employees (pnhp.com.) The
countries utilizing this system typically have a low cost per capita because the sole payer, the
government, controls the benefits and payment (pnhp.org.) The Bismarck Model is different
from the sole payer because it has an all payer foundation. The Bismarck Model was developed
by Chancellor Otto Von Bismarck, the inventor of the welfare state in Germany. The system
utilizes an insurance system (pnhp.org.) Each person insured has access to sickness funds. The
sickness funds are funded by employers and their employees. These funds are deducted from the
system is there is no such thing as pre existing condition. Their system provides insurance to
everybody. The policy does not make a profit, but are strictly for health coverage. The hospitals
and doctors in this model are usually private, but the government has regulation over sickness funds
to ensure cost control (pnhp.org.) The National Insurance Model was compromised from the
ideology of Bismarck and Beveridge. It incorporate both elements of private sectors and payment
from government insurance fund by its citizens (pnhp.org.) In this model, there is still no profit
from the insurance plans. A great benefit to this system is having high buyer power. Since there is

Who Is J. D. Salinger s A Perfect Day For Bananafish
All things truly wicked start from innocence by Ernest Hemingway. This quote is important
because it relates to Seymour Glass, the main character in the short story. Glass was an ordinary
man before returning from war as a completely different man, a man that was no longer innocent,
but in some ways, extremely tainted. J. D. Salinger s short story, A Perfect Day for
Bananafish , showcases different writing style techniques that help to better improve the
effectiveness of his writing. The techniques he utilizes include: inferences throughout the story,
repetition, dialogue, style, imagery, and even symbolism

His use of symbolism is also important to his style. One example of symbolism is when Seymour
tells Sybil is wearing a blue swimsuit when both of them were on a beach that they frequently met
and talked to each other at. The color blue, in Western literature symbolises deity and spiralituity
(Hochman). Another example of symbolism being used develop his style is when Seymour kisses
Sybil s foot, this occured right before Seymour left Sybil for the last time before returning back to
his room and committing suicide. This act from Seymour is seen and perceived as Seymours
gratefulness for Sybil s perception (Hochman).
J. D. Salinger furthers his style by using a variety of elements like repetition, symbolism, or
characterization. Salinger s way of writing forces the reader to read between the lines. They can
either be surprised by the ending or could have seen the outcome from the beginning, because of his
writing style. However, the reader must reread the story and try to understand it.
All in all, his style changes how each reader interprets the story with his aforementioned elements
of inferences of the reader and dialogue, short dialogue between characters and repetition, or

Milestone 3: Mobile Phone Implementation Plan Technology or Business Practices For
Milestone to be successful with their mobile platform strategy their strength of integration needs

to tablets becoming the dominant development platform of the future. At the center of these
technologies are secured enterprise access encryption and remote management support including
device wide wipe and replace security architectures (Gold, 2011). These technologies make it
possible for Milestone to manage each of their applications remotely and also completely erase

The Social Structure Of Fashion And Music
Fashion ... provides individuals with a key means through which to manage their identities in the
context of everyday life (Bennett, 2005, p.98). Through fashion, individuals are able to construct an
identity, and express that very same in order to confer and show their position in society. Their
gender, class, ethnicity, sexuality, subculture, generation, etc., are all part of their identity (Bennett,
2005). A person s taste in e.g. fashion and music is also part of their identity. Groupings of people
that share similarities in identity, including but not limited to fashion and music, are called
subcultures (Simmel, 1903; Veblen, 1934; Hebdige, 1979; DiMaggio, 1983; Bourdieu, 1984; cited

96). Further, individuals not only use their clothing to express their identity, but to also signal their
belonging or allegiance to certain groups of society (Rucker et al., 2009 cited in Bennett, 2005).
These aspects satisfy a person s need to socially adapt, whilst still allowing him to be a distinctive
individual within that group (Alfrey, 2010).
In everyday life, we are frequently confronted with representations of what is perceived to be
normal , often referred to as mass culture or the mainstream (Thornton, 1995). Alfrey (2010) argues
that the way we chose to express ourselves mostly happens in relation to the perceived symbols of
normality. The apparent pressure of society towards individuals to conform to normality (Dowd and
Dowd, 2003, cited in Alfrey, 2010) results in what Barker (2012) describes as the conscious
resistance of subcultures against these pressures. On the other hand, Thornton (1995) believes that
subcultures and youth do not differ from the norm of society to resist the very same. She believes
that sub and youth cultures differ and distinct themselves through taste and social hierarchies.
Research has found that in past decades these patterns of individuals showing their membership to
groups has not just happened through shared likings of

Psychological Ownership Paper
In psychology, ownership is the feeling that something is yours. People can feel ownership about a
variety of things, material and immaterial in nature. Is there a way organizations can benefit from
higher employee engagement, increased financial performance and lower turnover, simply by
increasing feelings of ownership? In mid 1970s, the USA carried out the Employee Stock

Pierce, Kostova and Dirks (2001) define it: psychological ownership is that state where an
individual feels as though the target of the ownership, or a piece of that target is theirs For
example, this company is MINE . However, Pierce and Jussila (2010) note that mine can also be
ours , meaning the object has a connection with the self while simultaneously having a connection
to another individual or group.
Although it is important to note that most of the empirical work on psychological ownership
has focused exclusively upon psychological ownership over one s job or organization. Van Dyne
and Pierce (2004) took it one step further, and called for additional research to approach and
examine feelings of ownership toward specific targets within organizations. They examined
various aspects of the job or organization, such as specific job roles, designated workspaces,
important projects, new ideas and so on. This is because these objects may be more concrete or
personal and thus foster stronger feelings of ownership than more complex, shared targets such as
the organization as a whole.

Dance On The Water Analysis
The Devil That Danced on the Water, a memoir written by the talented Modern World Literature
author, Aminatta Forna made its debut in 2002; just in time to contribute to healing the
brokenness of a society and their leftover open wounds from the aftermath of the civil war in
Sierra Leone. In this analysis research paper, I will discuss how the author extends her writing to
address an entire society, as well as ordinary families and individuals that have experienced the
horror and corruptness that broken politics can bring upon a group of people. More narrowed, I
will focus on my particular interpretation and argument of the reading; not the author s work to
honor her father by tracking down the truth, but rather her ability to use her personal experiences in
a way that inspires a more hopeful, courageous, educated and independent population throughout all
of the world affected by war and hate, particularly West Africa.
Aminatta, a woman of many cultural backgrounds, contributes multiple perspectives of her writing,
which helps readers understand differing cultures. Her mother was Scottish, her father was from
Sierra Leone and finally her influential step mother fled with Aminatta and her siblings to make a
life for them in England as the downfall of democracy began in Sierra Leone. This two part book
evolved as a collection of piecing together memories and discoveries leading to the uncovered
mystery behind Mohamed Forna s public execution during Aminatta s childhood. After

My Neighbor Totoro Essay
Hayao Miyazaki has directed ten Studio Ghibli films, and many more outside the company. Most
of his films include a form of uncertainty, some of which include technological ambiguity, moral
ambiguity, and the ambiguity of age. The focus of this essay is Miyazaki s ambiguity of age,
specifically through his film My Neighbor Totoro. Through the theme of the ambiguity of age,
Miyazaki is able to show the different characteristics that are maintained through maturing,
characteristics that are left behind, and characteristics that are gained from the process of
growing up. I will focus on the differences of maturity between the two sisters and the father in
My Neighbor Totoro. Miyazaki s film My Neighbor Totoro tells the story of the two young
daughters (Satsuki and Mei), their father (Tatsuo), and the family s interactions with friendly
wood spirits in postwar rural Japan (Wikipedia). Satsuki seems to be around ten years old, and
Mei seems to be around five years old. The imbalance of maturity in Satsuki and Mei is first
demonstrated when they are running around their new house. Nothing is explicit about age
Miyazaki only shows Satsuki running around the house, and then shows Mei doing the same thing,
but she does it like a young child (Miyazaki 10). This seemingly small age difference is the
foundation of Miyazaki s themes, motifs, and juxtapositions. In the film, Satsuki and Mei s mother
(Yasuko) has a long term illness
and is in the hospital. As a result, the

Modern Day Gladiator
Gladiators and Modern Day Football
In our world today, do you believe football is the modern Roman gladiator sport for us today?
Many Americans believe so. American football has many similarities with gladiator games says
Garrett Fagan. (Associate professor of Classics and Ancient Mediterranean Studies and History).
Gladiator games began as a ceremony to honor important men after their death, but it began to lose
its religious significance and it became more of a popular sport. Gladiator means a man trained to
fight with weapons against other men or wild animals in an arena. That s almost exactly like football
except you don t have weapons, you just use your body. NFL players are trained almost every
day to get bigger, faster, and stronger. Players have spent years of practicing techniques to
demolish their opponents. Gladiators fought for their lives. If they won their battle they would
become free, they could also get the wooden sword. NFL players do it to win a ring, but for the
most part they do it for the money. A man gets ready for game day. He puts on his helmet, his
protective padding and laces up his shoes. He s nervous, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The wealthiest also sits the closest. Football and gladiator games involve exciting violent strong
displays in front of a really big cheering audience. Fans have gathered to watch young men hit and
bruise one another. Thousands of fans choose sides and strongly represent their side through
apparel or noises. Just like how the Roman citizens cheered their favorite gladiators in combat. Ted
Turner once called sports war without the killing, and, as Fagan sees it, football is rather like
gladiatorial combat without the killing. These high major sporting events creates intense emotions
among fans of opposing sides. It is usual for fans to get kicked out of the stadiums for their actions
or kicked out for fighting other

Short Message Reliability Of Mobile Networks
Short Message Reliability in Mobile Networks Daniel KimAllan Suyao Graduate
StudentGraduate Student CSU Long BeachCSU Long Beach Abstract The use of short
messaging systems (SMS) is becoming more mainstream due to the exponential increase in cell
phone usage and other mobile devices. From messages sent through Twitter to emergency
notifications broadcast through mobile networks, the short messaging systems is becoming more
ubiquitous. In our paper, we will present the modeling approach for SMS that will lead to the
Simple Reliability Model and the Advanced Analytical Model. We will use the NS 2 Simulator to
simulate the output that consists of a server and numerous mobile nodes. We will compare the
analytical models to our simulation results. Key Words: Analytical models, mobile technology,
wireless networks 1. Introduction Short messages sent from mobile devices to other mobile
devices are an essential way of instant communication. The use of applications that rely on short
messaging such as Twitter allow fixed line and mobile phone devices to exchange short text
messages. It is estimated that approximately 3.5 billion mobile phone subscribers use SMS data
applications. From 2010 to 2012, over six trillion text messages were sent. This translates to an
average of nearly 200,000 SMS text messages sent per second [3]. The nodes used in short
messaging systems include the user equipment (UE) such as

Judicial Originality And The Legal System
Topic 2
By: Raylen White
Judicial originality is the most fundamental principle in the legal system. Judicial originality to
me means being able to make a decision based off the effects. If a judge has had a case in the
past similar to a current one, the judge can base his current decision using the same discretion or
rule he used before. Dworkin wrote a paper about this, he argues that judges should not be able to
create laws through the effect of their decisions. He has two arguments about why judicial
originality is not a good thing for society. In this paper I will talk about these arguments and if
Dworkin has the right to claim that this argument has no force against it. The first argument he had
against judicial originality was that a community should be govern by men and women who are
elected by and responsible to the majority. This means that most judges are not elected by a wide
spread of the community, and if they could make their own laws they would not benefit the
community. It is important that the community has a say on what should be a law and what
should not be a law. If judges were to make laws that would be a contradiction to the theory of
separation of powers. It would seem to be that judges are analogous to the legislature, which in fact,
they are not because the legislature is elected. Policy decisions must therefore be made through the
operation of some political process designed to produce an accurate expression of the different
interest that

The Injury Of A Knee Injury
There are many 206 bones in the human body, but three main bones that make up our ankle. The
three main bones that make up our ankle are the tibia, which is the shinbone, the fibula, which is
the smaller bone on the leg, and the talus, which is a small bone that sits between the calcaneus,
the tibia, and the fibula. The inside part of the tibia is called the medial malleolus. The back part
of the tibia is called the posterior malleolus. The end of the fibula is called the lateral malleolus.
There are two main joints in the ankle. One of the joints is the ankle joint. The ankle joint is where
the tibia, fibula, and talus meet. The other main joint is called the syndesmosis joint. This is the
joint that is between the tibia and fibula. When an ankle does not heal correctly, it is called a
nonunion.
There are many ways to cause an ankle injury. Twisting or rolling an ankle can create ankle injuries.
Tripping over something or falling down can also cause ankle injuries. There are many ways to
tell if an ankle is broken. These symptoms are severe pain, swelling, colored bruising, unable to
put any weight on it, or dislocation. If someone has these symptoms, they should go see a
physician. The incidence of ankle fractures is approximately 187 fractures per 100,000 people

The Feminist Scarlet Letter
The Scarlet Letter can easily be seen as an early feminist piece of work. Nathaniel Hawthorne
created a story that exemplifies Hester as a strong female character living with her choices, whether
they were good or bad, and also as the protagonist. He also presents the daughter of Hester, Pearl, as
an intelligent female, especially for her age. He goes on to prove man as imperfect through both the
characters of Dimmesdale and of Chillingworth. With the situation that all the characters face,
Hawthorne establishes the female as the triumphant one, accomplishing something that, during
Nathaniel Hawthornes time, authors did not attempt. In the beginning of the book, Hawthorne
paints the picture of a female named Hester who has sinned.... Show more content on

reasoning for such elaborate stitching, but Hawthorne suggest the fact that she understands
why she must wear it and accepts that she has sinned and must pay for her sins. He depicts a
female who is not weak and who does not runs away from her problems and mistakes, but one
who accepts them. She does the same with her daughter Pearl by dressing her in elaborate
garments, strictly against Puritanical beliefs. Hester also proves herself to be a strong female
character when she does not leave the town and attempt to start a new life elsewhere, void of her
scarlet letter . It may seem marvelous, that this woman should still call that place her home,
where, and where only, she must needs be the type of shame . (pg. 72) Hawthorne goes on to
state that Hester is drawn to the home because of the events. She knows that the town is the
scene of her guilt, and [there] should be the scene of her earthly punishment . (pg. 72) Hester is
a female who is she is strong and caring, helping anyone she can when he or she are in need. She
leads a pious life, and although she could retain all that she earns, she gives most away. Even the
townsfolk say Hester is so kind to the poor, so helpful to the sick, so comfortable to the afflicted .

Micro Air Vehicles ( Mavs )
CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Micro Air Vehicles (MAVs)
Micro Air Vehicles (MAVs) are a class of Unmanned Air Vehicles (UAVs), significantly smaller
than typical UAVs. UAVs are aircrafts without human pilot aboard. These are controlled either
automatically by on board computers or through remote control by a pilot on the ground [3]. The
modern aircrafts can be as small as 20 centimeters. The design features and the configurations of
MAVs are different from that of normal aircrafts. The speeds of MAVs are very low and the size
is less than 30 cm in length, width or height. With the development and comfort of electronics,
smaller aircrafts, which can perform various tasks that were previously performed by manned
aircrafts or larger UAVs, have been possible. Commercially off shelf components like motor,
propeller, ESC, servo motor, battery, autopilot, data modem, camera (Payload), videoTransmitter
are tested and trained for performance and is then integrated with MAVs for autonomous flight
operations as shown in Figure 1.1 [4].
Fig 1.1: Block diagram of MAV integration
1.2 Motivation
In today s world, MAVs equipped with digital cameras are increasing in number for real time
applications. MAVs are widely used because of its small size, low weight, low cost and flexibility
in design.
The main purposes of MAVs are to provide video surveillance during military exercisers,
firefighting, and weather monitoring, policing and border control [5]. However the video obtained

  • 2. Liars Poker Analysis John Snow October 31st, 2013 Business in Society Liar s Poker Analysis The book Liar s Poker begins with Michael Lewis, the author saying Wall Street, reads the sinister old gag, is a street with a river at one end and a graveyard at the other. This quote, symbolizing competitiveness, refers to the river as growth and prosperity and the graveyard as death in a company proves to be the fundamental principle that led Michael Lewis to write this book. The book portrays Michael Lewis time with Salomon Brothers (SB), the largest bond dealer in the 1980s. It outlines the business model that SB used to maximize capital in the mortgage bond market. By the mid 1980 s SB had become the most influential bond dealer in the market. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They were able to take advantage of the situation and control the market by offering whatever price they thought was fitting. Even though this seemed like a genius play it was by stroke of luck that this was all able to happen. If interest rates remained fixed SB would have never been as successful as history tells us and the mortgage bond division would have probably been terminated in the near future. Even though floating interest rates was a stroke of luck, SB was able to take full advantage of the situation while it lasted. Since SB was already inept to mortgage bonds they were able to compete at the top of the market far before anyone could even enter. It is said that SB had monopolized the mortgage bond market and were able to set the price buying and selling bonds rapidly. The change to floating rates may have been lucky but the determination, skill and grit of SB to dominate the mortgage bond market was what led them to become wealthy in the early 1980s. Michael Lewis success within the business is a microcosm for the business as a whole. Michael Lewis started as an unsuccessful Art Major out of Princeton. He got his big break when he attended a dinner for the Queen Mother at St. James Palace. At this point in his career, Lewis became interested in Wall Street due to the fact that that is where the money was at. While he was at this dinner he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. History on the War on Drugs Essay English 41461 October 26, 2010 History of the War on Drugs The war on drugs has been an ongoing fight that many presidents and foreign allegiances have tried to stop the trafficking, distribution and use of illegal drugs into the United States and around the world. Policy and laws have been created and maintained and changed to try and prevent illegal drugs being made in other countries as well as the United States and from being brought across the borders into the United States. The punishment for the drug traffickers and users has been an issue with the campaign to stop illegal drug use and trafficking. Through the United States history the president s and their administration have been focusing on how to deal with the war on drugs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) was initiated in schools all over the United States in 1983 to inform students about the effects drugs cause and to make children and their parents more aware of the drug problem in the U.S. (Frontline). Under Reagan, the federal prison population doubled. Young offenders and non violent drug users were sent to Special Alternative Incarceration boot camps, where they were brainwashed with yet more anti drug propaganda, to undermine their subversive attitudes. The President declared the War on Drugs to be one of the major achievements of his administration, while the international narcotics trade thrived and cannabis prices sky rocketed. Then in July 1984, the Washington Times published a story about DEA informant Barry Seal s infiltration of the Medellin cartel s operation in Panama. The story showed that Nicaraguan Sandinistas were involved in the drug trade. As a result of Seal s evidence, a Miami federal grand jury indicts Carlos Lehder, Pablo Escobar, Jorge Ochoa and Jose Gonzalo Rodriguez Gacha. In February 1986, Seal is killed in Baton Rouge, LA., by a gunmen hired by the cartel (The Washington Times). For the first time Colombiaextradites the drug traffickers to the U.S. in 1985. Then the U.S. officials discover that the Medellin cartel has a hit list which included embassy members and their families, U.S. businessmen and journalists (NPR). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. School Tryout Essay There has long been a disagreement about whether schools should hold tryouts for competitive sports teams, for the reason that many people hold varying opinions on this issue. Despite the fact that an incredible amount of citizens believe that students should be allowed to participate in athletics without trying out, numerous people disagree with that position. Some people argue that tryouts are a traditional way to choose the best students on the spot, or instead, tryouts could result as an emotional breakdown. But the truth of the matter is that students should be trying out for a competitive sport team. One main reason is that having tryouts allows students to push to try harder, and learn life lessons. The last reason is, if it weren t... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Without tryouts, students wouldn t learn that not everything is handed to them for free. This is why schools need to permit tryouts. Another reason schools should execute tryouts is because if it weren t for tryouts, there would be too many students on a team, and it can be chaotic. According to Dr. Allen Goldberg, he states, If there s too many kids on one team, kids won t get the fair amount of playing time that they deserve. (Goldberg, 2015). Skeptics believe that every student (either an advanced or average youth athlete) should get the equivalent amount of playing time during a game, yet many disagree with the opinion. Sharing play time with average students is unfair to children who are highly skilled in this certain sport. For example, a spontaneous youth athlete can work very hard during practices, while other athletes could slack off during the process. It is unfair to the athletes who are concentrated during practices to share play time with students who do not work for the win at all. They deserve the appropriate amount of playtime because they ve worked so hard during practices for the particular game. This is also very huge because coaches want the most skilled children on the team so they can achieve the gold. This is why tryouts should be handled with competitive sports teams. Additionally, Budgets aren t large enough to cover all costs players need. (Matz, 2015). This statement shows that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Brilliant Mathematicians from History Shape Math of Today Mathematicians not only play an important role in society today, but all the brilliant math minds from the past helped shape every mathematical theory we know, study, and learn today. Math is used every single day, in every continent, every country, every state, and every city. It is the way we solve everyday problems. It is the way we calculate the distance from sun to earth, the way we determine amount of miles one drives from their home to work, the way we estimate our grocery bill before approaching a register, the way we figure out the probability of failing or passing a test, it is the way we as humans approach, solve, and conclude problems we face day in, and day out. There are a various amount of languages spoken to communicate in our world today, but math is one that people from all different parts of planet earth understand, and use for the same purposes. Mathematicians are in a way, unsung heroes, without their discoveries, we would be lost, confused, and not nearly as intelligent. Gauss was one of those heroes. Carl Freidrich Gauss was a German mathematician and a physical scientist also known as the Prince of Mathematics . He was born on April 30th, 1777 in Brunswick, Germany and was born to poor, working class parents. His mother was illiterate and his father was a gardener/brick layer. The Globe Theater s history behind being built was based off the period of life that it was built in. After the plague ended in the 1800s, there was a company of actors known as the Lord Chamberlain s Men who needed a theatre to perform in. This group is where Shakespeare was first known to be part of. Many theatres were unable to reopen in England after the plague ended. The group performed in the Cross Keys Inn for a little while while looking for a theatre but there were restrictions for performing inside of the city s limits. Shakespeare was the lead playwright for the group by the time the plans for the Globe came about. This group of actors were not the only actors that were struggling at the time because the Theatre, which was a main place for plays to be performed was closed after the lease for the land had expired and the owner refused to renew the lease. This sent Cuthbert and Richard Burbage, the sons of the original owner of the Theater who had died, into an outrage. They decided to build a new playhouse located in Bankside of London (Wright 71 76). The theater became famous for being the place where Shakespeare did... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Actors owning the theatre that they acted in was something that had never happened before this time. This gave the theatre an advantage since they could save money by not having to pay rent. I needed to determine what had changed as Hewlett Packard already had numerous successful implementations previously given their vast experience in the computer industry and there long established relationship with software provider SAP. The current study identified that the founders of HP, Bill Hewlett Dave Packard created an effective management style which contained a set of values that defined how they wanted the company and its workforce to perform. A review article by Ulrich, Quan, Zimring, Joseph, and Choudhary (2004) summarized the role of physical environment which included nature. Nature is emphasized in providing a distraction for the patient from their illness and the hospitalsetting. (Ulrich et al., 2004) Simply using pictures of nature has been found to reduce anxiety and reduce the dosage of pain medications of patients in the ICU. (Ulrich, 2004) The presence of nature through a bedside window was found to be just as beneficial in improving the patients recovery and well being. Some of the characteristics that I noticed Sam portrayed that would be common of someone affected by autism were; repetitive body movements, insistence on sticking to routines, limited understanding of non verbal communication, stereotyped and repetitive use of language, impulsivity, and compulsive behavior just to name a handful. I think that the actor Sean Penn does a good job at portraying a man that falls on the autismspectrum. • 27. The Sociological Impacts Of Ali Unal And The Spread Of Islam However, Ali Unal implies there are many benefits and burdens that can be accomplished by participating in a polygamous relationship. Alongside reducing the possibility of any extramarital affairs, it also deals with the situation of gender ratios as many countries may have a larger female population as compared to their male counterparts. Ali Unal s translation is in complete contrast to the view proposed by MuhammadAsad. The Turkish author highlights the religious and historical significance of polygamy in spreading the message of Islam. The argument was forwarded that the marriages of Prophet Muhammad allowed for the development of deeper ties across Arabia even amongst various tribes who trusted the Prophet for guidance as a result of the formation of new relationships (Гњnal, 2008).If one was to argue for the permissibility of polygamy, it may be implied that polygamy could spread the essence of Islam through such a way that individuals can interpret the Quran through the positive actions from the spouses. It is evident both Muhammad Asad and Ali Unal highlight Surah 4:3 but Ali Unal emphasises the positive sociological impact such relationship can possess. The counter view to the above point provides a crucial shift towards the idea that polygamy perhaps should not be permissible in Muslim communities. • 28. How Social Class Affects My Family Life And Education We are shaped by society s structures, is the primary concept of the idea developed by C. Wright Mills (Henslin). In this paper, I will demonstrate how my social class affected my family life and education. World is composed of social stratification, a system which people are divided into layers based on their property, power and prestige. This stratification labels people and causes them to think accordingly within their own stratification. It can be expressed in four major groups as follows: slavery, caste system, estate, and class. Though it can be described in slavery, caste system, and estate, these are all old forms of social stratification that are not used commonly in the present. Therefore, my paper will be focusing on the description of the class system. In social stratification, class is the only system that approves social mobility. It is also a system that is based on the physical possessions such as money and materials. Moreover, slass system is the system that allowed me to think I can achieve upward social mobility. Therefore, I aim to be part of a higher social class as I am currently a member of a working class, which is compsed of relatively unskilled blue collar... [less secure jobs,] more routine, and more closely supervised [jobs],(Henslin 268). I intend to achieve this goal by getting educated. At the center of these technologies are secured enterprise access encryption and remote management support including device wide wipe and replace security architectures (Gold, 2011). These technologies make it possible for Milestone to manage each of their applications remotely and also completely erase the contents of a device if it is lost or stolen. A second major design criterion is to create an effective Application Programmer Interface (API) architecture that allows for any of the Milestone applications and associated resource calls including database integrations to gain real time access speeds (Proffitt, 2011). Most of his films include a form of uncertainty, some of which include technological ambiguity, moral ambiguity, and the ambiguity of age. The focus of this essay is Miyazaki s ambiguity of age, specifically through his film My Neighbor Totoro. Through the theme of the ambiguity of age, Miyazaki is able to show the different characteristics that are maintained through maturing, characteristics that are left behind, and characteristics that are gained from the process of growing up. I will focus on the differences of maturity between the two sisters and the father in My Neighbor Totoro. Miyazaki s film My Neighbor Totoro tells the story of the two young daughters (Satsuki and Mei), their father (Tatsuo), and the family s interactions with friendly wood spirits in postwar rural Japan (Wikipedia). Nothing is explicit about age Miyazaki only shows Satsuki running around the house, and then shows Mei doing the same thing, but she does it like a young child (Miyazaki 10). Dworkin wrote a paper about this, he argues that judges should not be able to create laws through the effect of their decisions. He has two arguments about why judicial originality is not a good thing for society. In this paper I will talk about these arguments and if Dworkin has the right to claim that this argument has no force against it. The first argument he had against judicial originality was that a community should be govern by men and women who are elected by and responsible to the majority. This means that most judges are not elected by a wide spread of the community, and if they could make their own laws they would not benefit the community. It is important that the community has a say on what should be a law and what should not be a law. If judges were to make laws that would be a contradiction to the theory of separation of powers. It would seem to be that judges are analogous to the legislature, which in fact, they are not because the legislature is elected. Policy decisions must therefore be made through the operation of some political process designed to produce an accurate expression of the different interest that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When I was in the third grade my life would take a drastic turn into a downward direction. My mother whom I loved so much changed drastically, started locking us out of the house. Doing any type of homework was impossible to accomplish when you are stranded outside. Later that year my parents got a divorce. There was constant turmoil; my mother was now living with a man that would later become my stepfather. As an adult I read her notebook containing several of her letters, the only conclusion I come to, be that she had some chemical imbalance that was never documented. When my sister was high on drugs she was prone to outburst and mental breakdowns. As a teenager I was only allowed to visit my sister one time when she was in the mental hospital. • 50. The Feminist Scarlet Letter The Scarlet Letter can easily be seen as an early feminist piece of work. Nathaniel Hawthorne created a story that exemplifies Hester as a strong female character living with her choices, whether they were good or bad, and also as the protagonist. He also presents the daughter of Hester, Pearl, as an intelligent female, especially for her age. He goes on to prove man as imperfect through both the characters of Dimmesdale and of Chillingworth. With the situation that all the characters face, Hawthorne establishes the female as the triumphant one, accomplishing something that, during Nathaniel Hawthornes time, authors did not attempt. She does the same with her daughter Pearl by dressing her in elaborate garments, strictly against Puritanical beliefs. Hester also proves herself to be a strong female character when she does not leave the town and attempt to start a new life elsewhere, void of her scarlet letter . It may seem marvelous, that this woman should still call that place her home, where, and where only, she must needs be the type of shame . • 55. Micro Air Vehicles ( Mavs ) CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Micro Air Vehicles (MAVs) Micro Air Vehicles (MAVs) are a class of Unmanned Air Vehicles (UAVs), significantly smaller than typical UAVs. UAVs are aircrafts without human pilot aboard. These are controlled either automatically by on board computers or through remote control by a pilot on the ground [3]. The modern aircrafts can be as small as 20 centimeters. The design features and the configurations of MAVs are different from that of normal aircrafts. The speeds of MAVs are very low and the size is less than 30 cm in length, width or height. With the development and comfort of electronics, smaller aircrafts, which can perform various tasks that were previously performed by manned aircrafts or larger UAVs, have been possible. Commercially off shelf components like motor, propeller, ESC, servo motor, battery, autopilot, data modem, camera (Payload), videoTransmitter are tested and trained for performance and is then integrated with MAVs for autonomous flight operations as shown in Figure 1.1 [4]. Fig 1.1: Block diagram of MAV integration 1.2 Motivation In today s world, MAVs equipped with digital cameras are increasing in number for real time applications. MAVs are widely used because of its small size, low weight, low cost and flexibility in design. The main purposes of MAVs are to provide video surveillance during military exercisers, firefighting, and weather monitoring, policing and border control [5]. However the video obtained by ...
