Analysis Of Ichabod Crane s Sleepy Hollow
It was a windy and foggy day in sleepy hollow. Clouds are gray, leaves falling like fall and trees
dancing in the wind. As Ichabod Crane walks pass the trials of sleepy hollow he sees a black
crow flying in the sky and was frightened when it appeared behind him on the sign. The town of
sleepy hollow is known for its crazy mythical and supernatural stories of witches, ghosts and the
most well known; The Headless Horseman. Ichabod Craneis not like most typical guys. He is not
as strong physically or mentally, but more sensitive and feminine. Among everyone in the town,
Ichabod is the school teacher for the younger kids. Everyday Ichabod, he reads on his way to his
small school and after staying at his students houses. The women... Show more content on

Katrina to a party she was throwing at her father s house. Ichabod was so excited and couldn t
wait to see Katrina. Later on that day, while Ichabod was on his way to the party he ran into a
man on a horse. Are you Ichabod Crane? Bron Boones asked. Yes and you are? Ichabod replied.
Stay away from my woman or else, Bron Bones ordered as he rides away on his horse. Ichabod
confused continued his way to the party. When he arrived at the party he saw Katrina he walks
up to her and asked her for a dance. They danced all night long. Who is that man staring at us?
Ichabod asked. Well, he is the town s Douchebag, Katrina replied. He never got worried about
losing her, why would she go for him. An hour later, the music stopped and Bron gathers up all
the men in one room to tell the tale that will go on and on. Today, my men , I tell you the tale of
the Headless Horseman, Bron started. When he uttered these words Ichabod started to break out in

Volcano Is A Volcano, Volcanic Eruptions, Earth, And Earth
What is a Volcano: A volcano is a rupture in the crust of planets such as Earth. They allow hot
lava, volcanic ash and gasses to escape from a magma chamber. Magma is formed from the
melting of rocks in the Earth s lithosphere, which is part of the Earth s crust and is broken up into
giant puzzle like pieces, and also from the shell below the lithosphere which is the asthenosphere.
The asthenosphere is a soft, fluid part of the Earth that can be pushed around because of the Earth s
warmth. Volcanoes form from eruptions. Once the eruption occurs the lava from the eruption cools
to form a new crust. After several eruptions, the rock builds up and forms the cone shaped
mountains or hills in which we call volcanoes.
What causes an eruption: A volcanic eruption is just a natural way that the Earth cools down and
releases internal heat and pressure. In an eruption, super heated magma from deep within the Earth
s interior works its way to the surface. They most often occur at the tectonic plate boundaries but
can also occur over hotspots or weak areas in the Earth s crust. The two most known types of
eruptions are effusive eruptions and explosive eruptions. Effusive eruptions are eruptions where
magma rises through the surface and flows out of the volcano as the thick liquid that is lava.
Explosive eruptions are eruptions where the magma is torn apart as it rises and reaches the surface
in pieces known as pyro clasts. Effusive eruptions are caused when hot basalt magma reaches the

I Want To Become A Neonatal Nurse
In my life I have thought about doing or being a lot of different things. But I think that I have
made up my mind and when I get older I want to be a Neonatal Nurse. The reason as to why I
want to become a baby nurse isn t really exciting. I want to be a neonatal nurse because it sounds
really interesting and it sounds like something I would actually enjoy doing for the rest of my
life. Since I really want to become a nurse I would have to create a couple habits in order to obtain
my goal. The first habit I would have to make is learningto listen to people better. I struggle with
this because my brain is always wondering off and I can t stay focused for a long time. I know
they make medication for it and I have it, I just don t take it even though I should. Another habit I

Water is probably my biggest fear. Not drinking water but giant body of water, like the ocean or a
lake. For some odd reason I always think I am going to drown every time I get in any type of
body of water. I think that if I am going to try and become less scared of water I need to learn
how to do some stuff first. First, I probably need to learn to swim. I know how to Doggy Paddle
but I don t think that counts when it comes to swimming Atlantic or Pacific. Another thing I
need to do is try not to worry as much when I go out on a boat or just go swimming. I get so
stressed to the point that I can t even have fun because I am so worried of drowning. I plan to
reach my goals by doing a couple of things. How I plan on learning to swim is I m going swim
more in the summer in a swimming pool. I would go to a swimming class but I went to one
when I was four, five, and six and it didn t get me anywhere. The second thing that I am going to
do is learn how to relax. Learning how to relax is going to be harder than learning to swim because

Analysis Of The Book The Namesake Essay
The situation of women is that she , a free and autonomous being like all creatures , nevertheless
finds herself living in a world where men compel her to assume the status of the other ( Beauvoir ,

Jumpa Lahiri , an expatriate Indian , although generation expatriate and yet her first novel The
Namesake is about a Bengali family Ashoke and Ashima Ganguli and their family . The novel
portrays realistically experiences of this family, which is sometimes afflicted with a feeling of
cultural alienation, rootlessness and dislocation experienced by every expatriate at some stage or
other . Eventhough she belonged to the second generation still she understood the concept of
diaspora by choice and therefore replicated the sandwich culture a concept in her novel . The
concept of diaspora has to be specifically understood as a single educated man who leaves his
native country for economic gain also resulting brain drain . The novel portrays the problem of
acculturation and assimilation faced by the first generation as well as second generation women.
Woman in Indian English fiction is depicted as the silent sufferer and upholder of the tradition and
traditional values of family and society. Born and brought up in India , Ashima too upholds Indian

Judaism s Birth Ceremony
It is reasonable to state that both Judaism and Islam life ceremonies have multiple similarities and
dissimilarities between each. To further explain the birth and marriage ceremonies for Judaism and
Islam religions, allowing for a deeper understanding and comparison for each.
There are multiple rites that occur during the Judaism s birth ceremony. During the birth ceremony
three rituals occur; Brit Milah (circumcision ceremony) for boys, the Brit Habat (Simchat Habat)
for girls, and the naming of the infant. These three ceremonies happen on the eightieth day after
birth for the infant, unless there re medical issues to deal with beforehand. During Brit Milah the

The parts that occur in a marriage ceremony for this religion are; procedures for completing a
marriage contract, a mohr (agreed amount of money) being set aside, a banquet for the couple
and the fact that men can have multiple wives. Some of these stages are part of ceremony such
as; the procedure for completing a marriage contract for which the bride grants her guardian,
whom then agrees with the groom about the terms of the marriage and the signing of the contract
along with two witnesses and the groom, followed by the public announcement of this contract
and a banquet. Also, a mohr is paid to the bride from the groom and men can marry up to four
women if they can provide for each of them evenly. These are some of the numerous parts that take

Effects Of Free College Tuition
Introducing free college tuition would have a positive impact of The United States, even so much
as two year associate s degree would have a hung impact. Free college tuition would give hope to
the families which can t afford the cost of tuition. Fran Cubberley states in his paper The reality of
Free Community CollegeTuition that 1,300 students who completed our entry process through
course registration ultimately dropped out before classes were underway. One of the major
reasons was they could not pay their tuition. Cost for tuition is huge factor on why people don t

They go on to state that The average cost for tuition and fees for a four year private college
averaged $19,710 that s a hung number to worry about on up of everything else a college
student has to worry about. There s a lot time that is devoted into studying and getting good
grades which in return doesn t leave a whole lot of time which can be devoted to work. The
average time a student should study is about two hours per week for each credit hour taken. For
example if the student has 15 credit hours that same student should expect to study for at least 30
hours per week which is practically equal to another full time job.
In the United States there are already a few different states that are offering free college tuition.
Those states being, Rhode Island, Tennessee, San Francisco, New York, Oregon and a few
others. Let s focus on the state of San Francisco a little more. In the article San Francisco will
offer free college tuition to residents Amanda Hoover states, Mayor Ed Lee announced an
agreement to budget $5.4 million in tuition for the college Monday. Officials say that will cover
tuition for current students and allow the school to expand enrollment by 20 percent. Low income
students who qualify will also see the cost of their books covered in small grants. This will give
hope to those which don t have enough money to afford

Manipulation in William Shakespeare s The Taming of the...
Manipulation in William Shakespeare s The Taming of the Shrew
In The Taming of the Shrew, the concept of love is a means of emotional manipulation, and
manipulation is nothing more than a means of control between men and women. William
Shakespeare critiques the patriarchal social structure by ironically employing the manipulative
stance Petruchio takes towards winning Katherine as his wife by charming her with words and
manipulating her psychologically, and then taming her after their marriage through legal, physical,
financial, and psychological control and manipulation. Though Petruchio may think he yields
power over his wife, Katherine uses obedience as a tool of manipulation and has the control of the
household, as can be seen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If he can control the meaning of the words, he can also control the people who use those words.
Petruchio also manipulates Kate psychologically by pivoting her thoughts in the direction of
them being suited to each other for marriage. When he says I am too young for you (Act 2 Scene
1, 250), he starts making her feel old and unwanted. This comment makes her mad, and causes
her to feel the need to prove that he is old, which she accomplishes in the next line by saying Yet
you are withered (II, 1; 251). Thus she unconsciously admits that he is at least suited to her in
age for marriage, if nothing else. By complimenting her, Petruchio is also able to play with her
psychologically. He begins by saying she is beautiful, nice, and modest. Even though he may not
mean it, and Kate probably suspects he is lying, it still has a positive effect on her. Complements
boost her confidence and make her feel wanted, which is a new experience for her. Such
complements eventually lead her to believe that he may actually love her, or that there is a
possibility of love between them in the future. This method of manipulation does have its effects,
because she only opposes their marriage once in front of her father, and after Petruchio announces
that they have decided that she should still be curst [to him] in company (II, 1; 324), but they really
love each other, she offers no counterarguments.

Segmentation And Target Market Analysis
Segmentation and Target Market Paper The fundamental component of Market segmentation is a
market based strategy. Market segmentation strategies are generally used to identify and further
define the target customers, and provide supporting data for marketing plan elements such as
positioning to achieve certain marketingplan objectives. Businesses may grow product
differentiationstrategies, or an indistinguishable approach, concerning specific products or product
lines subjectable to the specific requests and qualities of the target segment. A market segment deals
with descriptive characteristics and specific group of customers with distinctive customer needs. It

In October 2013, the company launched a music download service provided by 7digital. When
advertising a product for this company, the price of products in the market should always be set
under fair price. When a company evaluating different market segments, they must consider of
three factors, that is, growth and segment size, segment structural attractiveness and also company
s resources and objectives. (Armstrong G. Kotler P, 2005) The company s market segment
opportunities are certainly revealed by market segmentation. For all effective market
segmentation, these distinctive categories have met the criteria as they are easily identified. All
of the needs that can/will be demanded by customers will be comprised. A variety of video and
music in each store is available for purchase so that customers can have tangible access through

generally offers a wide assortment of advantages for both, customers and the business. Hence,
HMV is using the geographic, demographic, behavioral and psychographic approaches in their
market segmentation. The market identification as well as segmentation of targeted markets is the
most important element of each strategy. This particular company has to evaluate the various

The British Position s Position On The Morality Continuum
A major difference between 1956 and the 1930s was the British position s position on the morality
continuum. The Anti Appeasement position championed by Churchill during the 1930s had aged
very well. By 1956 the horrors of world war two were still fresh memories for all adult Britons and
Churchill s historical writings seemed to cement this view.
At a time when the evils of imperialism were becoming more apparent and resented a great deal of
British pride was sourced from standing up to fascism in 1939 and ultimately winning.
Illegal, unilateral military intervention in Suez on the back of a legal nationalisation of a foreign
owned asset had all the hallmarks of a colonist power s show of strength. British national interest
was undoubtedly threatened by the loss of oil, spread of Arab nationalism and (more questionably)
the resulting spread of communism throughout the region but the moral high ground of a nation
defending itself against fascism was more difficult to conjure up.
By drawing parallels between (specifically) 1938 and the nationalization crisis a sense of moral
authority was gained.
Britain could no longer hope to act unilaterally with success. The support (active and passive) from
the commonwealth and the USA was no longer present.
Britain viewed Nasser as a reckless dictator who had potential to massively threaten western power
in the Middle East, the power of Britain and ultimately tip the balance in the cold war.
The decision not to pursue further

The Importance of Results Oriented Workplaces in the 21st Century Subject: The Importance of a
Results Oriented Workplace in the 21st Century Over the last 40 years, technology to improve
productivity in the workplace has improved so much that an employee can be reached almost
anywhere at anytime to answer or solve any problem. However, rather than allowing employees to
work less and be truly productive, most workplaces place their value on the 40 hour week rather
than generating results in a timely fashion, on time. The result is more employee burn out, turn
over in the work force and reduced productivity, even with all these time saving technologies. From

These results oriented workplaces create environments of healthier, happier workers, which produce
better work, on time. This paradigm shift of working smarter rather than punching a clock will
eventually take over business, though there is significant resistance in numerous workplaces.
Human resource departments are embracing this practice, as are visionary executives, and business
managers, making it very important to the next generation of business people to understand the
rules and frameworks that will result in greater productivity, and keep their employees healthier,
happier, and more productive. In an interview with David Hunnicutt, he cited the 7 benchmarks
from the Welcoa model for a results oriented workplace: attracting senior level support, creating
cohesive wellness teams, using data to drive health efforts, crafting an operating plan, choosing
appropriate interventions, creating supportive environments, and consistently evaluating
outcomes.1 We will discuss each of there benchmarks in detail. The results oriented workplace has
numerous benefits, both for the organization as well as for the individual employees. These include
an empowered population, striving to develop more efficient means to complete any task. This
results in greater profits for the company, resulting in hopefully more business. The first of the
benchmarks that Hunnicutt mentions is attaining the support of the senior leadership of your
organization. This is

Into The Woods By Stephen Sondheim
Into the Woods is a musical that was written by songwriter, Stephen Sondheim and director, James
Lapine. In this musical, several Disney stories are humorously re told by creatively combining
their stories into one interrelated adventure. This show opened on November 5, 1989 and ran 764
performances before this film of the musical was released in 1990. Into the Woodswas one of
Sondheim s most popular works in over 25 years. He is known to be the giant of musical theatre
during his time for such a creative style. Sondheim combines several fairytales to explain what
happens in an adult mind after happily ever after. Lapine and Sondheim harmonize their theatrical
talents of an adult fairy tale through portrayal of adventure, comedy, tragedy, and reality. Like all
Broadway performances and morality, Into the Woods forms pure quality and very little suffering
through establishment.
The fairy tale stories altered to meet the wisdom of an adult while incorporating relative childhood
stories. Danielle Ferland performed as Little Red Riding Hood, Ben Wright as Jack and the
Beanstalk, Pamela Winslow as Rapunzel, Kim Crosby as Cinderella, and a few others help the
viewer evaluate the true intentions of the Witch, Bernadette Peters in this wish filled Broadway
performance. It all begins when the Baker s father goes into the Witch s garden. This ultimately

Informative Speech On The Theory Of Premillennialism
Why The theory of Premillennialism is false teaching
By Hunter Strohl
Specific Speech Goal: I want to show and persuade my audience to look at the faults in the Theory
of Premillennialism.
Proposition: I believe that the theory of Premillennialism is wrong.
Introduction: Good afternoon, today I want to show and encourage you to take a second look at the
theory of Premillennialism.
Before we start tearing up the theory of Premillennialism let s look at the main points of this
theory. The theory of Premillennialism is made up of 11 key points. (Rev.20) Jesuscame to
establish an Earthly kingdom, but was rejected and crucified. The Church was an afterthought of
God. There will be a rapture and an Antichrist. Christ will win the battle of Armageddon, and he
will reign for 1,000 years. The temple will be rebuilt and the Jews will return to animal sacrifices.
Satan will be freed after 1,000 years to fight one last battle. Finally judgement will take place.
This theory is very complex to get a grasp on understanding these points B. This book is full of
imagery and figurative language that the recipients understood the meaning of.
So let s apply this concept and breakdown a couple of the points of this theory.
We will examine the flaws in this belief as well.
Thesis: The man made theory of Premillennialism is incorrect because it argues for Christ to have
an earthly kingdom, a return to Old Testamentconcepts, and does not take into part that Revelation

Protocol Stack, Subnetting And Results
Introduction In this report, I will discuss 3 sections: Protocol Stack, Subnetting and Results.
Within the protocol stack section, I will explain how the encapsulation process works within
each layer of both TCP/IP IOS/OSI models. The explanations will relate to the stages which
occur within the process of requesting a web page from the web server via PC0 over the Wide
Area Network (WAN). Within the subnetting section, I will produce a guide on subnetting an IP
address. Within, the results section, screenshots of composing and receiving email will be shown,

So, within the WAN connection, to request a webpage from PC0 located within the Birmingham
site, the DNS protocol is used to determine the domain name whereas the HTTP application
protocol manages the way a web server web client interact. When requesting for the webpage,
DNS protocol sends data to the next 2 layers of the OSI Model in order to firstly encrypt the data
within the Presentation layer and then the dialogue is organized and data exchange is managed
within session layer. Data remains as one block during these 3 stages. Within the next layer
(Transport layer) of both models, data is segmented and a port number is attached to each
segment which identifies the application which should receive the data on receiving device.
Port numbers are attached when the TCP header is added. TCP UDP are the 2 protocols
functioning on this layer. TCP is used for reliable connections whereas UDP is used for
unreliable connection. When referring back to the scenario of requesting a webpage, data will
be segmented and port number 80 will be attached in order for web server s HTTP service to
receive the data then the segments will be forwarded on using the TCP protocol (Jaro., 2010).
Segments are encapsulated into packets when forwarded to Network Layer (Internet Layer on TCP
/IP Model), the Network layer implements logical addressing to the packets. In the scenario of

Raymond Chandler Preaches
Raymond Chandler was known to be one of the most prominent writers that revolved around the
novel writing of detective fiction. Writing crime stories would not be as advanced today without
his literary contribution to American style literature. His most famous novel, The Big Sleep,
established a highly prestigious artistic level; he would go on to forever change how detective
fictionnovels affected society, and how people view society from their own understanding. He
introduced an aspect that would question the approach of his article, The Simple Art of Murder, in
which he preaches and criticizes the authors who he believes are not disciplined enough to write a
mystery novel, by questioning their lack of detail and knowledge about the antagonist and the
insubordinate movement of the plot itself. As he goes on to create one of the most influential
novels of his time, he does not take the time to question his own masterpiece, believing that he
exhibits the appropriate amount of knowledge and detail to write an influential mystery novel. He
practices what he preaches because he is a very determined individual could restore... Show more

My Writing And Writing Style Essay
Like transforming from a caterpillar to a butterfly, my writing style transformed from something
mediocre to something quite exceptional. In high school, even when I took advanced placement
English and Literature courses, I was never good at writing. My writing would lack structure,
reasoning, syntax, and a well defined thesis statement. My inadequate grades on writing
assignments lowered my self esteem, so I assumed I would never enjoy writing papers because I
believed I could never improve. However, since attending a university my writing style has
improved far beyond my expectation. My EN 101 course enhanced my understanding of the
different ways I could approach my writing. Also, it enhanced my comprehension of outlines to
complete assignments. Investing quality time into my writing made a substantial difference
because I became a stronger writer. Through the late nights, constant revisions, and agonizing head
traumas, I learned that my writing is truly spectacular whenever I incorporate well defined thesis
statements, provide sufficient supporting evidence, and maintain a clear focus in my assignments.
My papers used to lack purpose and organization because I did not know how to write a thesis
statement, which is a road map for any academic essay. After I submitted my second essay
assignment for EN 101, I learned how to write a well defined thesis statement that introduces my
main ideas. The paper entitled The Secrets of Virtual Scammers! contained a well defined

Radiotherapy Vs Chemotherapy Essay
In our body we have normal cells that send signals to every cell all the time and our normal cells
obey what the signals are saying. Normal cells know when they have reached their limit and when
it is time to die or to do something to themselves or to others. On the other hand, we have cancer
cells, they override the normal signaling system. For example, cancercells do not stop dividing and
growing when they have reached their limit. Due to this, the cells keep replicating, forming like a
tumorthat is growing. My point is that cancer cells grow and divide in a manner that you are not
able to control, they would invade normal tissues, organs and eventually spreading throughout the
body. Cancer cells lost their control of growth and it is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To treat cancer or to remove doctors and scientist use surgery, chemotherapy(drugs), various types
of radiotherapy. Chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy might be used to destroy leftover cancer
cells and prevent the cancer from growing back. The exact treatment that will be used depends
on like the type of tumor and the stage of the disease or other things to take into account.
Scientists and researchers are always trying to find new ways to limit the growth, spread, and
kill of cancer cells. Most of our population do not know exactly what cancer is and how it works.
I highly suggest that we need to educate our population with the definition and show them how
cancer cells works. In my case, if it was not for my biology classes I would not have learned how
cancer cells works nor the definition. Cancer cells are really important since they can spread, get
to the point of stopping the function of other cells, killing other cells and finalizing with death or
stopping a function in our body. It is important to know about cancer cells because when you are
learning about them you are also learning about how your cells work and how they function. If they

The Bonneville Power Administration ( Bpa ) Service Territory
BACKGROUND
The Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) service territory is in the Pacific Northwest. In
1937, BPA was established to construct facilities required to market and transmit electric power
from the Bonneville Dam located on the Columbia River and to construct facilities necessary to
transmit that power. BPAs mandate has been expanded to be the marketing agent for power from
all of the federally owned hydroelectric projects in the Pacific Northwest, as one of four regional
Federal power marketing agencies within the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).
BONNEVILLE POWER ADMINISTRATION
BPA, a power marketing agency of the United States Department of Energy (DOE), supplies
roughly half of the electricity used in the Pacific Northwest. The power that BPA markets comes
primarily from 31 Federal hydroelectric projects (known collectively as the Federal Columbia River
Power System, or FCRPS), and one non federal nuclear plant. BPA is a co manager of the Federal
hydroelectric projects, but it does not own or operate them. Such responsibilities belong to the U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (Bureau). For the purpose of

Disconnection And Alienation In St Patrick s College By...
An author s personal experience gives authenticity to their text. Peter Skrzynecki, an Australian
poet of Polish origin emigrated to Australia shortly before the end of World War II. His
assimilation into his newfound homeland is portrayed in his emotive poetry, where he explores his
disconnection and alienation. The way in which Skrzynecki writes about his personal experiences
gives an authentic insight into the perspective of a migrant, allowing the audience to better
understand the challenging emotions evoked by the migrant experience. These emotions are
clearly seen in Skrzynecki s poem St Patrick s College, where he delves back through his
experiences at school and highlights the disconnection and alienation he felt being a migrant. This
disconnection is further expressed in Feliks Skrzynecki, where Skrzynecki alludes to his
detachment from even his father. These feelings of disconnection and alienation shown by
Skrzynecki in his poems, allows the audience to understand the effects of growing up as a migrant.
The process of transitioning into a new context can put pressure on an individual to belong, leading
to disconnection for the individual if they don t belong. Peter Skrzynecki was enrolled into a
Catholic School after his family migrated from Europe to Australia. The effects of this change in
context for Skrzynecki is portrayed in his poem St Patrick s College, where he gives authentic
personal insight into the challenges faced by migrants growing up in a new

Policy Paper: How can the United Nations and the United States help assist the reconstruction of
Nepal, within the underdeveloped stance and corruption throughout the government and
country? To: Sujeeta Bajracharya UNDP of Strategic Planning and Development Effectiveness
On April 25th, 2015 Gokha Earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 struck Nepal. Followed by
another earthquake reaching 7.3 magnitude. Over 800,000 homes across Nepal through cities
and villages have been destroyed. With a count of 9,000 deaths and 22,000 injured people.
Currently, not one single home has been restored through Nepal, although it has been one year
since the earthquake. The Nepalese people reside under tarps, slates of metal, and whatever
materials they can find to construct a place to sleep under. Which has made a large impact on
the health and well being of the Nepalese people who do not have a place to live anymore. Water
and food has become a major crisis for the Nepalese people. Some organizations and corporations
have given food, water, and aid relief to the Nepalese people, yet, they still seem to be living in the
conditions of the earthquake aftermath. Nothing has changed since. The central issues is within the
political organization of the Nepalese Government. They do not have a solid foundation for their
government and also it is filled with corrupt politicians, it has put Nepal on the back burner of being

Red Blood Cells Lab Report
The experiment confirms the hypothesis as, when compared to the isotonic environment, the sheep
red blood cells that were exposed to a hypotonic environment either expanded or lysed. The
increased ECF s absorbance in the three hypotonic solutions show that more light was absorbed an
indicator of a ruptured red blood cell. Although the 50mM solutionproduced a lower absorbance
than the 100mM solution when the expected amount of the former should have been higher than
the latter, the hypotonic solution still has a larger absorbance than the isotonic solution.
It is worth noting that the hypotonic environments produced the clearest red solutions. In all three
hypotonic environments, high absorbance values in comparison to the isotonic controlled
environment were collated (Table 3). When taking into account osmosis, this could be a result
from the sheep red blood cells rupturing and releasing haemoglobin as too much water was
absorbed (Lluka 2016). The positive control 0mM produced the largest absorbance value most

Thus, the concentration of solutes in his red blood cells (ICF) is lower than the concentration of
his ECF. As a result, the water in the ICF moves into the ECF; causing the cells to shrink (Reece
et al. 2014). In order to treat Baxter, his blood cells must expand to regain their ideal shape. By
increasing the amount of water in the ECF, this will dilute the solute concentration; bringing the
environment back to an isotonic system. However, as seen in Table 3, if pure water (0mM) is
used, the red blood cells could lyse as, to reach equilibrium, the cell will absorb more water than is
required. Since this is a result of the extreme concentration gradient, isotonic saline, where the
solute present is lower than the ICF, should be administered intravenously. This would be a smaller
concentration gradient; an ideal that will allow the cells to expand but not

Olympic Stadium Controversy
Introduction
This controversy revolves around the stadium meant to be the host for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic
Games. With the preparations for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, one of the preparations
was to build a new stadium to host the games and in 2012, Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) won
the stadium commission through an international competition (Dezeen, 2015a). Soon after ZHA
bid won, they started work on the site and after two years, and after Japan had won the bid to
host the 2020 Olympics, the controversy began with the main argument against the project being
that the architectural design was over budgeted and that it could not be financially sustainable.
As a result, ZHA had to revise their design in 2014 with a new design that addressed the
previously voiced criticism. However, with criticism still raging on, Japan Sports Council (JSC)
canceled the firm s plans in July 2015, after Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe weighed into
the issue by announcing that the design plans will be scrapped as a result of spiraling costs and
that the project would be started from scratch. This issue ended up being referred to as the Tokyo
2020 Olympic stadium controversy and one of the major architectural controversies of 2015
(Dezeen magazine, 2015b). This paper, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

In your answer you should consider the ways in which Donne and Jennings use form, structure and

John Donne s The Anniversary is all about the love the theoretical narrator and his object of love

the one ageless thing is the unchanging love the poet shares with his lover. Although their bodies

I have no will to weep or sing...No least desire to pray or curse : These two lines expresses how
the author did not have any hope less and was feeling depressed. Furthermore, Emily Dickinson s
poem What If I Say , again the tone is extremely hopeless; her love has died but yesterday and
without him dungeons, nor guns do scare her; without him there is nothing left for her. Donne,

The repetition of the word strangely in the final stanza of Jennings poem could mean one of two
things: either that she finds it strange that they do not love one another in the same way anymore
or on the other hand, it could simply be emphasising that her parents are estranged from one
another. There is a sad and empty atmosphere or mood created through the poem. The sense of
coming death and fading passion creates a chilling mood; this contrasts with Donne s poem in

Reconstruction Dbq Essay
Reconstruction DBQ After the Civil War, the era of reconstruction was a time for America to try
restructure and rebuild itself. To the United States demise, not much was actually reconstructed nor
bettered concerning the lives of American citizens. The main cause of a somewhat failed attempt at
reconstruction was the South, also known as the Confederates. Due to their recession towards
slavery and dehumanization of African Americans, the South was the killer of reconstruction. The
most prominent cause of the Civil War regarded the treatment of African Americans. The North
fought to end slavery and consider blacks equal to whites and on the contrary, the South fought to
continue slavery and keep the traditional practices used considering the treatment of blacks.
Finishing victorious, the North tried their best to enforce humane treatment towards African
Americans yet the South merely pushed these laws to the side. Consequently, the South came up

The Pioneer Investigation And Findings From Brown Kulik...
Recollections of vivid autobiographical episodic memories formed when an individual experiences
intense emotions, generating from a surprising public event defines Flashbulb memories (FBMs).
Permanent and consistent remembrances processed cognitively and stored as explicit recollections
in long term memoryare additional features of FBMs (Goldstein, 2014). Brown Kulik (1977) first
proposed this phenomenon and argued FBMs are resistant to change like photographs. The ongoing
debate over the process of cognitionin relation to storing and recalling FBMs led numerous
researchers to advance their understanding of the mental processing of FBMs and to evaluate the
impact emotions have on memories. This paper discusses the pioneer investigation and findings
from Brown Kulik s 1977. It further explores debates opposing their unique theory of FBMs and
the apparent inadequacies of their conclusions. Additionally, this paper examines plausible
hypotheses from researchers for the formation of FBMs like rehearsal of events and the
inconsistencies of FBMs, their distortions and the decay FBMs experience over time. It then
evaluates a contemporary study on FBMs and the necessity for future studies to develop a method
to measure FBMs. This is imperative in order to gain a deeper understanding of the influences
emotions have on shaping, processing and storing FBMs cognitively and consequently how it
impacts on our daily lives.

Personal Statement For The Support Group
Introduction For the support group that I led we planned on having it be focused around
testimonies. I wanted for us each to be able to get to know one another on a deeper level than we
had, specifically spiritually. I thought that doing five minute testimonies was a good way to be
able to get to know one another better while still not making everyone divulge all of their life to
people they are still getting to know and learning to trust. With the testimonies theme, I wanted my
icebreaker to lead into the importance of listening to our client s stories and using our story as a
platform for Christ. For my ending activity I wanted to lead into next support groups topic which
we had decided would be about our current walk with the Lord.
Group goals
At our first support group we decided that our goals would stay the same each week. Our primary
goal was to practice group facilitation and group participation. Our sub goals were to support one
another and get to know one another. We began our first support group with not really supporting
one another because there was no need for it; however, the second support group we supported
one another as we shared about our families. The third support group also got deeper in supporting
one another as we talked about our high school experiences. The fourth group I felt that we did not
exercise the sub goal to support one another because it was more educational than supportive.
I was nervous going after we talked about stress because it

different kinds of seeds, but I managed to find a bag of plain sunflower seeds. Adrian seemed
rather happy about the prospect of food. I walked up to the register, made my purchase, and

Adam Smith And Andrew Carnegie And The Gospel Of Wealth
The continuous disparity of wealth and income can cause constant economic problems within a
society. Although it is not apparent all the time, there are few benefits of discrepancy itself such as
individual wealth, capital, and labor. Both Smith and Carnegie have distinct beliefs about wealth
that differentiate from one another, yet are similar in certain ways. Adam Smith confined all his
ideas about the common man in his Wealth of Nations . Whereas, in the Gospel of Wealth, Andrew
Carnegie had distinct beliefs about the effects of capitalism. All in all, economic conditions of the
21st century still date back to previous years and signify the importance of economic competition.

Smith was very much concerned with the welfare of the community and created The Wealth of
Nations, to put forth most of his economic ideas, that are still considered today. The message
Adam Smith alleged was that since people satisfied their own self needs, then the economy
would work affectively. For example, When people look to their own self interests, they
contribute unintentionally, by means of an invisible hand , to the welfare of society (Smith 281).
Smith talks about the invisible hand as a guiding tool towards supply and demand within a
society and argued the division of labor generates wealth not just for that one person but for the
nation as a whole. By selling products that are in demand, for the purpose of earning money
people are engaging in within their enterprises. Additionally, the more demands, the more people
want to invest, the more people need to work, the harder it is to find a job when the economy is at
a low. Today, the invisible hand theory is often guides free markets and capitalism in the direction
of efficiency, through supply and demand and competition for scarce resources.
Another significant contribution to a government is Capitol because profit determines wealth
which can assist an economy to grow bigger and better. Andrew Carnegie acknowledged the
unequal effects of the laissez faire system of capitalism through The Gospel of Wealth. Carnegie

PayPal classic is the arbitrary freezing of accounts. An account can become frozen fast whenever
there is an indication of any type of fraud. In this case, it implies that there is a possibility of
PayPal suffering immense losses if no risk assessment and mitigation is performed in a timely

Freezing the accounts should not be the only solution to fraudulent concerns. On the other hand,
freezing accounts gives them time to conduct investigations on potential troubles and correct fraud

to pay a regular cash dividend which many look forward to when investing in stock. This does not

RenГ© Descartes Meditations Essay
RenГ© Descartes Meditations
RenГ© Descartes argument that he does not know his piece of wax through his senses is rather
straightforward. First, his sensory perceptions of the wax are its color, scent, sound, texture,
temperature and the like. However, these purported properties of the wax are not constant; if the
wax is brought close to a flame, its color, sound, texture and all the rest will change. Nevertheless,
Descartes claims, no one would deny that the object now by the fire is the same wax that was first
away from the fire. Descartes implies that it is evident and obvious that the wax, though its
appearance to the senses is wholly changed, is still the same wax. Let us grant this. Because the
wax is still the same wax even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Flexibility and mutability refer to the wax s ability to take on any of an indefinite number of shapes
indeed, an infinite number. We cannot know these properties of the wax through our imaginations
because our imagination is incapable of cataloguing all the possible shapes the wax may take. (The
imagination, remember, consists in discrete mental images of the wax with certain shapes.)
Likewise, with the property of extension we cannot imagine all of the sundry sizes and dimensions
of which the wax is capable of taking, but nevertheless we know that it has this same ability.
Because we cannot account fully for the three essential properties of the wax with our imagination
we conclude that we do not know the wax through our imagination.
The wax, so conceived, is merely a substance with the essential properties of being extended,
flexible, and mutable properties general enough that the wax can be taken to stand for a generic,
supposedly physical, objects. Descartes concludes that he knows the wax through an inspection of
the mind alone. To understand this reasoning, first note that by this point in the Meditations,
Descartes is operating under the understanding that, insofar as he knows, he is only a thinking
thing. Therefore, if we perceive, we do so with powers that are innate in us as a thinking thing.
These powers of thought are earlier enumerated to include the capacity to doubt, understand, affirm,
deny, will, refuse, sense, and imagine.

Maus by Art Spiegelman
In the book Maus it shows many structures in the way the animals are portrayed. The Jews being
drawn as mice; mice are known to be small and dependent. As the Germans being drawn as cats;
cats being bigger and more independent tend to eat mice. Nazis haunt torture and kill the weak
Jews just like cats. It is an analogy, cats and mouse. The mouse is a symbol for subordinate and the
cat is supremacy. Spiegelman s meaning for drawings the character like that has a totally different
approach. His main purpose was to show the different kinds of ethnicities in the book, through the
different types of animals in order to tell them apart. His main purpose was also to show the human
traits of the animal by drawing them with human bodies.
In the first book, the characters are made sure to represent the different characters description of
the character, Spiegleman does it by dividing them into their ethnicity, the Jews shown as mice,
the Germans as cats, and the Polish as pigs. Having done this Spiegleman created a different
form to view the diversities of his characters by simply arranging the people through different
types of human types that were categorized by that time by portraying the readers that the Jews
who are viewed as the mice in this case are shown the weakest and subordinate, this enables much
significance in the choice of characters. In the book you see that the Germans and Jews were

in 2016. Proposition 65 should be passed because the profit made from the paper bag fee will go
towards environmental projects, environmental projects are important because it affects everyone
and has to be solved at one point and why wait until it gets serious to the point that our taxes might
increase. It is specifically on how it wants the paper bagfee to be spent on environmental projects
instead of it being pocket money for the retail/grocery store. If voters vote no on the proposition,
then they are agreeing to give grocery and retail stores $300 million in profits. The following is a
simple description on the process of prop 65 Requires stores... Show more content on

In addition, the same author states the following They say it s a play to confuse voters so they
simply vote no on both plastic bag measures, thus defeating the statewide ban passed by the
legislature. It s true many of the public aren t fully aware of what the proposition is truly about. It
can lead up to not passing the proposition. The author has the point some people can get confused,
but having two propositions that are connected to each other might confuse people. But at the end

Ethics Case Study Paper
Is pleasing the customers, and telling them what they might want to hear, more important than
being honest with them? When clients ask the company for reports, their main interest should be to
get a thorough and comprehensive analysis. If they were only looking for a confirmation of what
they wanted to hear, they should not need the research.
This case study review will show that ethics and honesty are more important than pleasing the
customer. When Greg was given revised numbers, and was asked to rewrite the report to match the
changes, he was put in a difficult situation. He just recently joined the organization, and is likely
still getting a feel for the company culture. What are the values and shared goals? His supervisor,
Elizabeth, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Elizabeth is likely struggling from two perspectives. She has to follow directives of the
company owners, in this case Mr. Collins, although she might not agree with the decision. At the
same time she is the one that has to explain the change to the analysts. Kouzes and Posner (2012)
found that Before you can be a leader of others, you need to know clearly who you are and what
your core values are. Once you know that, then you can give those values a voice and feel
comfortable sharing them with others (p. 17). Elizabeth s behavior is not ethical, but she is in a
similar position as Greg. Obey the orders, get the analysts to change the report, and have the outside
computer firm revise their printouts, or risk getting written up or terminated.
I would be surprised if this was the first time such a redo of a report was ordered by the owners.
This has an overall negative influence on the company culture and values being communicated. If
employees feel that unethical actions are being performed, it taints all messages being
communicated. Kouzes and Posner (2012) stated that If you don t believe in the messenger, you
won t believe the message (p.

What I Learned At The Group
Question 1
William: Honestly, it is refreshing to have you in the group, and if you have to leave you will
surely be missed. First off, your humor and attitude has always been qualities that I have felt
were great for our group. As you stated in an earlier thread, we agree and have the same
perspectives on a lot of things, which has limited our interaction in the group because we wanted
to limit the amount of piggybacking. Your own identification of your ability to use humor at the
wrong times made me reflect on myself, and realize that I do the same, and that I may need to be
more aware of the times in which I do it. William, stay motivated and encouraged, I wish you all
the best.
Daniel: You were indeed a great addition to the group. You have enlightened me so much, and
actually helped me see how much I have to learn about in this field, and I truly appreciate it. With
all your knowledge and experience, I hope to learn more from you in the future, if possible.
Working in this field, encouragement and motivation is always important because as we both know
the system is quite flawed. Thanks for imparting so much knowledge this semester.
Jennifer: Second residency showed me a different side of you. In fact, talking to you allowed me to
see that we have a lot in common, especially our thoughts about the program. One thing I admire
about you is your consistency with the threads; I can always count on you to have your post up on
Thursday. Also, the initiative you take to

Organizational Metaphors
Organizational Metaphors Maria F. Shoemaker South University April 19, 2012 Organizational
Metaphors The two metaphors that I am about to describe to you are machines and organisms. I am
also going to note what each metaphor suggests about how humans and their behavior are perceived
in the organization. I will also let you know the similarities and differences in the two metaphors.
Also conclude on how the ability to switch between metaphors might enhance effective leadership
and organizational behavior. The machines one tends to think of inputs and outputs,
standardization, productivity, measurement, and control. The organization tends to want the
workers to just perform the mechanics of the job. They want them to not think... Show more content

We must see that organizations exist in the socioeconomic environment the way fish exist in the
ocean, and the way we exist in the physical environment. In knowing the similarities and
differences in each metaphor, the manager of the organization will be able to use the organism in
the area that it is needed the most and also use the machine in the area where it is needed the
most. The organism can adapt to different environments and the machine can perform repetitively
the same functions. The metaphors are most valuable in the organization once you train and
coach ones employees, you will know which metaphor is best used within the organization.

Opportunity In The Promised Land Analysis
The procedural republic Sandel presents provides a solid and unique basis for the analysis of
both Lash s Opportunity in the Promised Land and Coates The Case for Reparations. While I was
reading both Lasch and Coates, I was reminded of the qualities Sandel proposed in order for a
democracy to both exist and be effective. I continue to return to the notion that in a procedural
republic, freedom is attainable only by having particular rights that are protected from tyranny of
the majority. However, as Americans, we rely on the role of constitutional law to enforce and
protect those rights. Yet, if the white majority has the class status and educational means to create
these laws, then the constitutional laws are not neutral they reflect... Show more content on

Lasch asserts, Americans have always equated opportunity with upward mobility (50). However,
due to the gap between our economic lives, social mobility is unrealistic. Without economic
equality, moving up the social ladder is essentially impossible. Lasch argues, In our own time
money has come to be regarded as the only reliable measure of equality...derived not merely from
the distribution of wealth or economic opportunity but, above all, from the distribution of
intelligence and competence (59). Historically, opportunity is associated with social mobility, yet
inequality has always been a problem that Americans have faced. Based on the double standard in
American society, whites have the ability to succeed and thrive in our class system. To white
individuals having a job and an education symbolize American citizenship. On the other hand, to
blacks, home ownership became an emblem of American citizenship (Coates 27). However, I find
that inequality is often tough to discuss, as many Americans are narrow minded when it comes to
what our political systems should achieve. As a result, African Americans at the bottom of our
American hierarchical system are not given the opportunity to be freely, choosing individuals. This
great gap between whites and blacks has caused two distinct ways of living in one, united country.
Therefore, as Coates pointed out, blacks establish a sense of patriotism not to their country, but to
their neighborhood or block (Coates

There are few companies in the 101st Airborne that achieved the status the men of Easy
Company would gain during their career in World War II. From the making of formation of the

course of the war. They became legends in American military history with their acts of bravery and
heroics they showed in the face of the German army. From Normandy to Hitler s Eagle s Nest, their
fame grew with each great mission they accomplished. The generations that would follow respected
the uniform they wore, and the company s comradeship grew deeper than a normal soldier s

We went to the top of Currahee and back with a couple of ambulances following, and men

member Sargent Tripper and the brutal training by Sobel which that took place on that day.
Another case that proved Ambrose s argument the Easy Company was the best company in the
Airborne s was Sobel s determination to see them as the best company; demonstrated by some of
the drills and inspections he would do with the men. Ambrose stated there were many times
before and after a run, Sobel would instruct the company to dump all the water from their
canteens. This was to build the company s endurance to prepare them for fighting. To teach the
men of the company self discipline when inspecting the troops in the company Sobel would

the troops a weekend pass. However, while doing this Sobel was only preparing the men to become
the best fighting force to take on the tyranny of the Nazis in Europe. Another argument in Stephen
Ambrose s Band of Brothers was the assignment of the hardest and toughest missions in the
European Theater in World War II for the men of Easy Company. The stress in training was
followed by the stress in Normandy by drawing the key combat mission for gaining control of
Utah Beach. In combat your next reward for a good job done is that you get in the

Beowulf Analysis
Beowulf, the historical epic, has enlightened historians and captivated readers for centuries, yet
along with its riveting plot and engaging heroes, therein lies one distinct blunder. Throughout the
sequence of Beowulf s adventures, Beowulf himself and his companions address God and Biblical
stories occasionally make their appearance. However, a brief glance at the background of Beowulf
and his people would inform any onlooker of Christianitys absence during this time. This accident
does not alter the plot of Beowulf significantly, nonetheless, they may irritate a well educated
historian. Yet, armed with this literary mishap one could uncover the abundant historical
information, the form of the author s culture, and perhaps ponder upon how the omission of
Christianity would modify the story. Thus, instead of this accident creating a negative impact it has
introduced beneficial information and given a cause to exercise one s brain.
Throughout the previous years, historians have sought to satisfy their insatiable hunger for the past
by the means of ancient literature. Yet, along with the plot of ancient tales, historians also search
for errors in the manuscripts in order to learn the history of the author rather than the characters. To
understand the mistake of the author and the situation of Beowulf s people, the Geats, one must
first recognize the epic s setting: sixth century Sweden. The Norton Anthology Western Literature
Vol. 1 throws light upon the fact that

Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol
Can Charles Dickens be considered one of the greatest writers of all time? Many think yes,
definitely. But what else could he be honored for? Charles Dickens is one of many well known
authors, and that is credited to his various books, such as Oliver Twist, A Christmas Carol, and
many more. Through all of Dickens s momentous writings, he has influenced the modern world in
many forms, from the way we see certain phrases, to the way we see people affected by poverty.
Many of Dickens s books are still studied in schools today, one of those being A Christmas Carol,
in which he talks about England being smothered in snow. As a result of the phrase A White

The Effects Of Mental Illnesses
Mental illnesses greatly affect the lives of those they attack. However, those who are free from
the captivity of mental illnesses are generally unaware of the destruction caused by them. Mental
illnesses, such as anxiety and depression, take hold of people s lives and determine the way they
go. Unfortunately, mental illnesses are not taken seriously. Many believe that mental illnesses are
just a phase that people will naturally recover from. In today s society, anything that is abnormal is
suppressed. Sadly, this is true for mental illnesses. Those suffering from mental illnesses are hidden,
in a sense, from the normal world. Mental illnesses are viewed as abnormal, and those that hold this

According to society, mental disorders and illnesses are abnormal. This mindset is caused by the
stigma shrouding mental conditions. However, what does abnormal really mean? Merriam
Webster, one of the oldest and most common dictionaries, defines abnormal as deviating from the
normal or average (Merriam Webster). If something truly is not common, thus normal or average,
then it must, by definition, be abnormal. This raises an important question: how common are
mental illnesses? The answer to this question will help determine if mental illnesses are truly
abnormal. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, Approximately 1 in 5 adults in

The Dred Scott Case On The New Territories Of The West Essay
At the beginning of the 1860s, the national Democratic party split in half. It had split into the
Northern Democrats and the Southern Democrats. They split because of the issue of slavery, which
was very alive at the time. As well, the Dred Scott case played an important role in the split of the
party. The Northern Democrats didn t want slavery to expand into the new territory. On the other
end, Southern Democrats called for the preservation of slavery within their states and the expansion
into the new territories of the west. Their contentious battles at the national convention in both
Charleston and Baltimore prove that they were a party divided. Because of this, it would eventually
lead to the election of Abraham Lincolnand the secession of the southern states. The Northern
Democrats believed that slavery needed to be halted to the states they were already in. If it moved
into new territory, it would throw off the balance of free and slave states. They also called for
popular sovereignty. Popular sovereignty calls for a democratic government by the people and for
the people. Stephen Douglas ran for the Northern Democrats and upheld their position on the matter
of slavery expansion and popular sovereignty. As well, he upheld the prevention of disunion. The
Northern Democrats were angered that the Southern Democrats were calling for the expansion of
slavery to the new territories and that is what ultimately split them from the Southern Democrats.

Running Head: AFFERMATIVE ACTION
Affirmative Actions
Affirmative action is an action taken by an organization to select on the basis of race, gender, or
ethnicity by giving due preferences to minorities like women and races being not adequately

almost equal in proportion to do away the injustice done in the past. The Supreme Company need to

Before, going into this we need to look at the past discriminative policies adopted many companies,
responsible for many acts of discrimination against minorities. Menial and low level jobs were
offered to certain ethnic and minority groups. Even, woman was denied certain job categories on
the ground of strength and their capabilities. This discriminatory policy adopted for so many
decade has led to a situation where there cannot be a level playing field without taking certain
affirmative action. Thus short run violations of the rule are justified to create a more just
distribution of benefits. In order to make an effective policy, the supreme company should be able
to predict, as best it can, how many minorities and women it would select over time, without
adopting the policy of discrimination. These predictions would constitute the institution s
affirmative action in terms of goals (Anderson, 2002). It is for the supreme company to think in
the public interest by maintaining such policy. For example let us take a very apt example; A
Michigan farmer who grows sugar beets is relevantly different from his neighbor across the road
who grows tomatoes. If the nation thinks a modest program of redistributing income is legitimate,
then it uses a social security payout formula that gives disproportionate return to low wage earners

Essay on Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales
Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales
In The Canterbury Tales, Geoffrey Chaucer comments on moral corruption within the Roman
Catholic Church. He criticizes many high ranking members of the Church and describes a lack of
morality in medieval society; yet in the Retraction, Chaucer recants much of his work and pledges
to be true to Christianity. Seemingly opposite views exist within the Retraction and The Canterbury
Tales. However, this contradiction does not weaken Chaucer s social commentary. Rather, the
Retraction emphasizes Chaucer s criticism of the Church and society in The Canterbury Tales by
reinforcing the risk inherent in doing so.
In The Canterbury Tales Chaucer portrays the Roman Catholic Church as an institution in... Show

Chaucer clearly indicates that many leaders of the Church act only for their own good, rather than
for spiritual reasons.
In his description of other pilgrims, Chaucer points out how the lack of morality within the
Church is echoed by the rest of society. Several pilgrims have non religious reasons for going on
the pilgrimage. The Wife of Bath, for instance, is looking for her sixth husband, hoping that Som
Cristen man shal wed me [her] anoon (WBT 54). Many of the characters have little or no regard
for others, but instead are focused only on their own desires. The Franklin is so gluttonous that
It snewed [snows] in his hous of mete and drinke, / Of alle daintees that men coude thinke (GP
347 8). Chaucer even suggests that the Sergeant at Law, a prominent figure in society, seemed
bisier than he was (GP 324). The corruption of the Church has, according to Chaucer, affected the
way individuals act. If the Church is immoral it is not surprising that much of society mirrors the
Church s immoral actions. The Parson cleverly describes the effect of a lack of morality in the
leaders of society by comparing the corruption of individuals to the rusting of metals: if gold
ruste, what shal iren do? / For if a preest be foul, on whom we truste, / No wonder is a lewed man
to ruste (GP 502 4). Chaucer attacks not only the behaviour of the Church officials but also the
immorality of the laypeople in Medieval society.
Contrary to the critical tone used in The Canterbury

Consciousness and Philosophers of the Mind
Consciousness and Philosophers of Mind
Consciousness is a word used by philosophers, to signify that immediate knowledge which we
have of our present thoughts and purposes, and, in general of all the operations of our mind...
[and] if I am asked to prove that I cannot be deceived by consciousness to prove that it is not a
fallacious sense I can find no proof... (Thomas Reid, referenced by Lehrer, 2008).
Introduction
There are many features of consciousness that philosophers of the mind discuss and debate. Two
are found within the philosophy of Russ McBride; they are: a) ...a conscious creature or subject ;
and b) a conscious mental state (Manson, 2011, 100). Another philosophy professor, Michael
Antony, sees two features that are commonly debated and dissected by scholars in and out of the
field of philosophy. Those features are the conscious state and the conscious creature both of
which will be further developed in this paper. Are mental states always clearly conscious states ?
Or are they clearly not conscious? Antony argues that it is impossible to accept that there could be
any borderline cases or fuzzy boundaries for concepts of consciousness (Antony, 2008). Antony s
and other approaches to consciousness are reviewed and critiqued in this paper.
The Literature on Consciousness
The concept of consciousness is ambiguous and polysemic (having more than one meaning),
according to professor Neil Manson (King s College in London). The fact that

  • 3. Volcano Is A Volcano, Volcanic Eruptions, Earth, And Earth What is a Volcano: A volcano is a rupture in the crust of planets such as Earth. They allow hot lava, volcanic ash and gasses to escape from a magma chamber. Magma is formed from the melting of rocks in the Earth s lithosphere, which is part of the Earth s crust and is broken up into giant puzzle like pieces, and also from the shell below the lithosphere which is the asthenosphere. The asthenosphere is a soft, fluid part of the Earth that can be pushed around because of the Earth s warmth. Volcanoes form from eruptions. Once the eruption occurs the lava from the eruption cools to form a new crust. After several eruptions, the rock builds up and forms the cone shaped mountains or hills in which we call volcanoes. What causes an eruption: A volcanic eruption is just a natural way that the Earth cools down and releases internal heat and pressure. In an eruption, super heated magma from deep within the Earth s interior works its way to the surface. They most often occur at the tectonic plate boundaries but can also occur over hotspots or weak areas in the Earth s crust. The two most known types of eruptions are effusive eruptions and explosive eruptions. Effusive eruptions are eruptions where magma rises through the surface and flows out of the volcano as the thick liquid that is lava. Explosive eruptions are eruptions where the magma is torn apart as it rises and reaches the surface in pieces known as pyro clasts. Effusive eruptions are caused when hot basalt magma reaches the ... Manipulation in William Shakespeare s The Taming of the Shrew In The Taming of the Shrew, the concept of love is a means of emotional manipulation, and manipulation is nothing more than a means of control between men and women. William Shakespeare critiques the patriarchal social structure by ironically employing the manipulative stance Petruchio takes towards winning Katherine as his wife by charming her with words and manipulating her psychologically, and then taming her after their marriage through legal, physical, financial, and psychological control and manipulation. Though Petruchio may think he yields power over his wife, Katherine uses obedience as a tool of manipulation and has the control of the household, as can be seen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If he can control the meaning of the words, he can also control the people who use those words. Petruchio also manipulates Kate psychologically by pivoting her thoughts in the direction of them being suited to each other for marriage. When he says I am too young for you (Act 2 Scene 1, 250), he starts making her feel old and unwanted. This comment makes her mad, and causes her to feel the need to prove that he is old, which she accomplishes in the next line by saying Yet you are withered (II, 1; 251). Thus she unconsciously admits that he is at least suited to her in age for marriage, if nothing else. By complimenting her, Petruchio is also able to play with her psychologically. He begins by saying she is beautiful, nice, and modest. Even though he may not mean it, and Kate probably suspects he is lying, it still has a positive effect on her. Complements boost her confidence and make her feel wanted, which is a new experience for her. Such complements eventually lead her to believe that he may actually love her, or that there is a possibility of love between them in the future. This method of manipulation does have its effects, because she only opposes their marriage once in front of her father, and after Petruchio announces that they have decided that she should still be curst [to him] in company (II, 1; 324), but they really love each other, she offers no counterarguments. • 11. The British Position s Position On The Morality Continuum A major difference between 1956 and the 1930s was the British position s position on the morality continuum. The Anti Appeasement position championed by Churchill during the 1930s had aged very well. By 1956 the horrors of world war two were still fresh memories for all adult Britons and Churchill s historical writings seemed to cement this view. At a time when the evils of imperialism were becoming more apparent and resented a great deal of British pride was sourced from standing up to fascism in 1939 and ultimately winning. Illegal, unilateral military intervention in Suez on the back of a legal nationalisation of a foreign owned asset had all the hallmarks of a colonist power s show of strength. British national interest was undoubtedly threatened by the loss of oil, spread of Arab nationalism and (more questionably) the resulting spread of communism throughout the region but the moral high ground of a nation defending itself against fascism was more difficult to conjure up. By drawing parallels between (specifically) 1938 and the nationalization crisis a sense of moral authority was gained. Britain could no longer hope to act unilaterally with success. The support (active and passive) from the commonwealth and the USA was no longer present. Britain viewed Nasser as a reckless dictator who had potential to massively threaten western power in the Middle East, the power of Britain and ultimately tip the balance in the cold war. Before we start tearing up the theory of Premillennialism let s look at the main points of this theory. The theory of Premillennialism is made up of 11 key points. (Rev.20) Jesuscame to establish an Earthly kingdom, but was rejected and crucified. The Church was an afterthought of God. There will be a rapture and an Antichrist. Christ will win the battle of Armageddon, and he will reign for 1,000 years. The temple will be rebuilt and the Jews will return to animal sacrifices. Satan will be freed after 1,000 years to fight one last battle. Finally judgement will take place. This theory is very complex to get a grasp on understanding these points B. This book is full of imagery and figurative language that the recipients understood the meaning of. So let s apply this concept and breakdown a couple of the points of this theory. Within the subnetting section, I will produce a guide on subnetting an IP address. So, within the WAN connection, to request a webpage from PC0 located within the Birmingham site, the DNS protocol is used to determine the domain name whereas the HTTP application protocol manages the way a web server web client interact. When requesting for the webpage, DNS protocol sends data to the next 2 layers of the OSI Model in order to firstly encrypt the data within the Presentation layer and then the dialogue is organized and data exchange is managed within session layer. Data remains as one block during these 3 stages. Within the next layer (Transport layer) of both models, data is segmented and a port number is attached to each segment which identifies the application which should receive the data on receiving device. Port numbers are attached when the TCP header is added. TCP UDP are the 2 protocols functioning on this layer. TCP is used for reliable connections whereas UDP is used for unreliable connection. When referring back to the scenario of requesting a webpage, data will be segmented and port number 80 will be attached in order for web server s HTTP service to receive the data then the segments will be forwarded on using the TCP protocol (Jaro., 2010). Writing crime stories would not be as advanced today without his literary contribution to American style literature. His most famous novel, The Big Sleep, established a highly prestigious artistic level; he would go on to forever change how detective fictionnovels affected society, and how people view society from their own understanding. He introduced an aspect that would question the approach of his article, The Simple Art of Murder, in which he preaches and criticizes the authors who he believes are not disciplined enough to write a mystery novel, by questioning their lack of detail and knowledge about the antagonist and the insubordinate movement of the plot itself. As he goes on to create one of the most influential novels of his time, he does not take the time to question his own masterpiece, believing that he exhibits the appropriate amount of knowledge and detail to write an influential mystery novel. In high school, even when I took advanced placement English and Literature courses, I was never good at writing. My writing would lack structure, reasoning, syntax, and a well defined thesis statement. My inadequate grades on writing assignments lowered my self esteem, so I assumed I would never enjoy writing papers because I believed I could never improve. However, since attending a university my writing style has improved far beyond my expectation. My EN 101 course enhanced my understanding of the different ways I could approach my writing. Also, it enhanced my comprehension of outlines to complete assignments. Investing quality time into my writing made a substantial difference because I became a stronger writer. Through the late nights, constant revisions, and agonizing head traumas, I learned that my writing is truly spectacular whenever I incorporate well defined thesis statements, provide sufficient supporting evidence, and maintain a clear focus in my assignments. My papers used to lack purpose and organization because I did not know how to write a thesis statement, which is a road map for any academic essay. On the other hand, we have cancer cells, they override the normal signaling system. For example, cancercells do not stop dividing and growing when they have reached their limit. Due to this, the cells keep replicating, forming like a tumorthat is growing. My point is that cancer cells grow and divide in a manner that you are not able to control, they would invade normal tissues, organs and eventually spreading throughout the body. Cancer cells lost their control of growth and it is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To treat cancer or to remove doctors and scientist use surgery, chemotherapy(drugs), various types of radiotherapy. Chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy might be used to destroy leftover cancer cells and prevent the cancer from growing back. The exact treatment that will be used depends on like the type of tumor and the stage of the disease or other things to take into account. Scientists and researchers are always trying to find new ways to limit the growth, spread, and kill of cancer cells. Most of our population do not know exactly what cancer is and how it works. I highly suggest that we need to educate our population with the definition and show them how cancer cells works. In my case, if it was not for my biology classes I would not have learned how cancer cells works nor the definition. Cancer cells are really important since they can spread, get to the point of stopping the function of other cells, killing other cells and finalizing with death or stopping a function in our body. It is important to know about cancer cells because when you are learning about them you are also learning about how your cells work and how they function. • 20. The Bonneville Power Administration ( Bpa ) Service Territory BACKGROUND The Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) service territory is in the Pacific Northwest. In 1937, BPA was established to construct facilities required to market and transmit electric power from the Bonneville Dam located on the Columbia River and to construct facilities necessary to transmit that power. BPAs mandate has been expanded to be the marketing agent for power from all of the federally owned hydroelectric projects in the Pacific Northwest, as one of four regional Federal power marketing agencies within the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). BONNEVILLE POWER ADMINISTRATION BPA, a power marketing agency of the United States Department of Energy (DOE), supplies roughly half of the electricity used in the Pacific Northwest. The power that BPA markets comes primarily from 31 Federal hydroelectric projects (known collectively as the Federal Columbia River Power System, or FCRPS), and one non federal nuclear plant. BPA is a co manager of the Federal hydroelectric projects, but it does not own or operate them. Such responsibilities belong to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (Bureau). For the purpose of this case study, Bureau of Reclamation owns and operates the dams and the Army Corps of Engineers builds and maintains the dams. Peter Skrzynecki, an Australian poet of Polish origin emigrated to Australia shortly before the end of World War II. His assimilation into his newfound homeland is portrayed in his emotive poetry, where he explores his disconnection and alienation. The way in which Skrzynecki writes about his personal experiences gives an authentic insight into the perspective of a migrant, allowing the audience to better understand the challenging emotions evoked by the migrant experience. These emotions are clearly seen in Skrzynecki s poem St Patrick s College, where he delves back through his experiences at school and highlights the disconnection and alienation he felt being a migrant. This disconnection is further expressed in Feliks Skrzynecki, where Skrzynecki alludes to his detachment from even his father. These feelings of disconnection and alienation shown by Skrzynecki in his poems, allows the audience to understand the effects of growing up as a migrant. The process of transitioning into a new context can put pressure on an individual to belong, leading to disconnection for the individual if they don t belong. Red Blood Cells Lab Report The experiment confirms the hypothesis as, when compared to the isotonic environment, the sheep red blood cells that were exposed to a hypotonic environment either expanded or lysed. The increased ECF s absorbance in the three hypotonic solutions show that more light was absorbed an indicator of a ruptured red blood cell. Although the 50mM solutionproduced a lower absorbance than the 100mM solution when the expected amount of the former should have been higher than the latter, the hypotonic solution still has a larger absorbance than the isotonic solution. It is worth noting that the hypotonic environments produced the clearest red solutions. In all three hypotonic environments, high absorbance values in comparison to the isotonic controlled environment were collated (Table 3). When taking into account osmosis, this could be a result from the sheep red blood cells rupturing and releasing haemoglobin as too much water was absorbed (Lluka 2016). As a result, the water in the ICF moves into the ECF; causing the cells to shrink (Reece et al. 2014). In order to treat Baxter, his blood cells must expand to regain their ideal shape. By increasing the amount of water in the ECF, this will dilute the solute concentration; bringing the environment back to an isotonic system. However, as seen in Table 3, if pure water (0mM) is used, the red blood cells could lyse as, to reach equilibrium, the cell will absorb more water than is required. Soon after ZHA bid won, they started work on the site and after two years, and after Japan had won the bid to host the 2020 Olympics, the controversy began with the main argument against the project being that the architectural design was over budgeted and that it could not be financially sustainable. As a result, ZHA had to revise their design in 2014 with a new design that addressed the previously voiced criticism. However, with criticism still raging on, Japan Sports Council (JSC) canceled the firm s plans in July 2015, after Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe weighed into the issue by announcing that the design plans will be scrapped as a result of spiraling costs and that the project would be started from scratch. To the United States demise, not much was actually reconstructed nor bettered concerning the lives of American citizens. The main cause of a somewhat failed attempt at reconstruction was the South, also known as the Confederates. Due to their recession towards slavery and dehumanization of African Americans, the South was the killer of reconstruction. The most prominent cause of the Civil War regarded the treatment of African Americans. The North fought to end slavery and consider blacks equal to whites and on the contrary, the South fought to continue slavery and keep the traditional practices used considering the treatment of blacks. Recollections of vivid autobiographical episodic memories formed when an individual experiences intense emotions, generating from a surprising public event defines Flashbulb memories (FBMs). Permanent and consistent remembrances processed cognitively and stored as explicit recollections in long term memoryare additional features of FBMs (Goldstein, 2014). Brown Kulik (1977) first proposed this phenomenon and argued FBMs are resistant to change like photographs. The ongoing debate over the process of cognitionin relation to storing and recalling FBMs led numerous researchers to advance their understanding of the mental processing of FBMs and to evaluate the impact emotions have on memories. This paper discusses the pioneer investigation and findings from Brown Kulik s 1977. It further explores debates opposing their unique theory of FBMs and the apparent inadequacies of their conclusions. Additionally, this paper examines plausible hypotheses from researchers for the formation of FBMs like rehearsal of events and the inconsistencies of FBMs, their distortions and the decay FBMs experience over time. It then evaluates a contemporary study on FBMs and the necessity for future studies to develop a method to measure FBMs. This is imperative in order to gain a deeper understanding of the influences emotions have on shaping, processing and storing FBMs cognitively and consequently how it impacts on our daily lives. For example, When people look to their own self interests, they contribute unintentionally, by means of an invisible hand , to the welfare of society (Smith 281). Smith talks about the invisible hand as a guiding tool towards supply and demand within a society and argued the division of labor generates wealth not just for that one person but for the nation as a whole. By selling products that are in demand, for the purpose of earning money people are engaging in within their enterprises. Additionally, the more demands, the more people want to invest, the more people need to work, the harder it is to find a job when the economy is at a low. First, his sensory perceptions of the wax are its color, scent, sound, texture, temperature and the like. Nevertheless, Descartes claims, no one would deny that the object now by the fire is the same wax that was first away from the fire. Descartes implies that it is evident and obvious that the wax, though its appearance to the senses is wholly changed, is still the same wax. Let us grant this. Flexibility and mutability refer to the wax s ability to take on any of an indefinite number of shapes indeed, an infinite number. We cannot know these properties of the wax through our imaginations because our imagination is incapable of cataloguing all the possible shapes the wax may take. (The imagination, remember, consists in discrete mental images of the wax with certain shapes.) Likewise, with the property of extension we cannot imagine all of the sundry sizes and dimensions of which the wax is capable of taking, but nevertheless we know that it has this same ability. Because we cannot account fully for the three essential properties of the wax with our imagination we conclude that we do not know the wax through our imagination. The wax, so conceived, is merely a substance with the essential properties of being extended, flexible, and mutable properties general enough that the wax can be taken to stand for a generic, supposedly physical, objects. Descartes concludes that he knows the wax through an inspection of the mind alone. To understand this reasoning, first note that by this point in the Meditations, Descartes is operating under the understanding that, insofar as he knows, he is only a thinking thing. Therefore, if we perceive, we do so with powers that are innate in us as a thinking thing. These powers of thought are earlier enumerated to include the capacity to doubt, understand, affirm, deny, will, refuse, sense, and imagine. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Maus by Art Spiegelman In the book Maus it shows many structures in the way the animals are portrayed. The Jews being drawn as mice; mice are known to be small and dependent. As the Germans being drawn as cats; cats being bigger and more independent tend to eat mice. Nazis haunt torture and kill the weak Jews just like cats. It is an analogy, cats and mouse. The mouse is a symbol for subordinate and the cat is supremacy. Spiegelman s meaning for drawings the character like that has a totally different approach. His main purpose was to show the different kinds of ethnicities in the book, through the different types of animals in order to tell them apart. His main purpose was also to show the human traits of the animal by drawing them with human bodies. In the first book, the characters are made sure to represent the different characters description of the character, Spiegleman does it by dividing them into their ethnicity, the Jews shown as mice, the Germans as cats, and the Polish as pigs. Having done this Spiegleman created a different form to view the diversities of his characters by simply arranging the people through different types of human types that were categorized by that time by portraying the readers that the Jews who are viewed as the mice in this case are shown the weakest and subordinate, this enables much significance in the choice of characters. When clients ask the company for reports, their main interest should be to get a thorough and comprehensive analysis. If they were only looking for a confirmation of what they wanted to hear, they should not need the research. This case study review will show that ethics and honesty are more important than pleasing the customer. Kouzes and Posner (2012) found that Before you can be a leader of others, you need to know clearly who you are and what your core values are. Once you know that, then you can give those values a voice and feel comfortable sharing them with others (p. 17). Elizabeth s behavior is not ethical, but she is in a similar position as Greg. Obey the orders, get the analysts to change the report, and have the outside computer firm revise their printouts, or risk getting written up or terminated. I would be surprised if this was the first time such a redo of a report was ordered by the owners. This has an overall negative influence on the company culture and values being communicated. First off, your humor and attitude has always been qualities that I have felt were great for our group. As you stated in an earlier thread, we agree and have the same perspectives on a lot of things, which has limited our interaction in the group because we wanted to limit the amount of piggybacking. Your own identification of your ability to use humor at the wrong times made me reflect on myself, and realize that I do the same, and that I may need to be more aware of the times in which I do it. William, stay motivated and encouraged, I wish you all the best. Daniel: You were indeed a great addition to the group. You have enlightened me so much, and actually helped me see how much I have to learn about in this field, and I truly appreciate it. With all your knowledge and experience, I hope to learn more from you in the future, if possible. Working in this field, encouragement and motivation is always important because as we both know the system is quite flawed. Thanks for imparting so much knowledge this semester. • 44. Opportunity In The Promised Land Analysis The procedural republic Sandel presents provides a solid and unique basis for the analysis of both Lash s Opportunity in the Promised Land and Coates The Case for Reparations. While I was reading both Lasch and Coates, I was reminded of the qualities Sandel proposed in order for a democracy to both exist and be effective. I continue to return to the notion that in a procedural republic, freedom is attainable only by having particular rights that are protected from tyranny of the majority. However, as Americans, we rely on the role of constitutional law to enforce and protect those rights. Yet, if the white majority has the class status and educational means to create these laws, then the constitutional laws are not neutral they reflect... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lasch asserts, Americans have always equated opportunity with upward mobility (50). However, due to the gap between our economic lives, social mobility is unrealistic. Without economic equality, moving up the social ladder is essentially impossible. Lasch argues, In our own time money has come to be regarded as the only reliable measure of equality...derived not merely from the distribution of wealth or economic opportunity but, above all, from the distribution of intelligence and competence (59). Historically, opportunity is associated with social mobility, yet inequality has always been a problem that Americans have faced. Based on the double standard in American society, whites have the ability to succeed and thrive in our class system. To white individuals having a job and an education symbolize American citizenship. On the other hand, to blacks, home ownership became an emblem of American citizenship (Coates 27). However, I find that inequality is often tough to discuss, as many Americans are narrow minded when it comes to what our political systems should achieve. As a result, African Americans at the bottom of our American hierarchical system are not given the opportunity to be freely, choosing individuals. This great gap between whites and blacks has caused two distinct ways of living in one, united country. Therefore, as Coates pointed out, blacks establish a sense of patriotism not to their country, but to their neighborhood or block (Coates ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It had split into the Northern Democrats and the Southern Democrats. They split because of the issue of slavery, which was very alive at the time. As well, the Dred Scott case played an important role in the split of the party. The Northern Democrats didn t want slavery to expand into the new territory. On the other end, Southern Democrats called for the preservation of slavery within their states and the expansion into the new territories of the west. Their contentious battles at the national convention in both Charleston and Baltimore prove that they were a party divided. Because of this, it would eventually lead to the election of Abraham Lincolnand the secession of the southern states. The Northern Democrats believed that slavery needed to be halted to the states they were already in. If it moved into new territory, it would throw off the balance of free and slave states. Stephen Douglas ran for the Northern Democrats and upheld their position on the matter of slavery expansion and popular sovereignty. As well, he upheld the prevention of disunion. The Wife of Bath, for instance, is looking for her sixth husband, hoping that Som Cristen man shal wed me [her] anoon (WBT 54). Many of the characters have little or no regard for others, but instead are focused only on their own desires. The Franklin is so gluttonous that It snewed [snows] in his hous of mete and drinke, / Of alle daintees that men coude thinke (GP 347 8). [and] if I am asked to prove that I cannot be deceived by consciousness to prove that it is not a fallacious sense I can find no proof... (Thomas Reid, referenced by Lehrer, 2008). Introduction There are many features of consciousness that philosophers of the mind discuss and debate. Two are found within the philosophy of Russ McBride; they are: a) ...a conscious creature or subject ; and b) a conscious mental state (Manson, 2011, 100). Another philosophy professor, Michael Antony, sees two features that are commonly debated and dissected by scholars in and out of the field of philosophy. Those features are the conscious state and the conscious creature both of which will be further developed in this paper. Are mental states always clearly conscious states ? Or are they clearly not conscious? Antony argues that it is impossible to accept that there could be any borderline cases or fuzzy boundaries for concepts of consciousness (Antony, 2008).
