MODULE 4 LESSON 2

1. KNOW YOUR SALAAT
The path of those upon whom You have granted your
favors. Not (the path) of those upon whom your anger is
brought down, nor of those who have gone astray.

4. "For whoever I am his Leader (mawla), 'Ali is
his Leader (mawla)."

5. WHAT HAPPENED WHEN PROPHET PASSED AWAY?
When the prophet was on his
death bed, a group of companions
ignored the command that
imam Ali (as) succeed Rasulallah(saw) .
These people met at a place called
SAQIFA and chose AbuBakr as the
caliph or leader of the Muslims
after Rasulallah(saw)

8. Abusufyan had enmity towards Rasulallah (saw)
and Imam Ali (as)
Abusuyan’s son Muawia had enmity towards Imam
Ali (as) and Imam Hassan (as)
He fought against Imam Ali (as) at Siffin
He also fought against Imam Hassan (as)
Muawiya’s son Yazid sent his army to kill
Imam Hussein (as) at Karbala.

9. THE ENEMIES AND HYPOCRITES ARE NOT HAPPY WITH IMAM ALI
When Imām ʿALI (as) finally became the caliph, his
enemies were not happy and kept him engaged in
battles throughout most of his caliphate.
He had to fight in the battles of Jamal, Ṣiffīn and
Nahrawān.

10. Battle of Jamal
Prophet’s wife Ayesha (abu Bakr’s daughter) did not accept
Imam Ali (as) as the leader after Uthman. She joined others
and rode on a camel to fight Imam.
Imam won. He ensured Ayesha was returned to her home
with respect

11. Muāwiya had been appointed as a governor of
Syria even before Imām Ali (’a), during the times of
the Caliphs ‘Umar and Uthmān.
Muawiya ruled Syria with terror and fear
Looted public money. Was totally corrupt
When Imām Ali (‘a) became the Caliph in 37 AH,
he asked Mu’āwiya to step down but Mu’āwiya
refused and sent an army to fight Imām Ali (‘a) in
the Battle of Siffin in which thousands of Muslims
died on both sides.
Imām Ali (‘a) had almost defeated him, when
Muawiya tricked Imam’s army by asking for
mediation. Imam’s army refused to fight, so imam
had no choice but to accept mediation

12. A group of Imam Ali’s soldiers who refused to fight Muawiya, turned around and
blamed Imam Ali for ending the battle.
They were fanatics who became known as Kharijites, killed anyone who did not
believe in their way.
Imam tried to reason with them, but 4000 of them attacked Imam’s army. Imam
defeated the kharijites . A few escaped and one of them Ibn Muljim assasinated
Imam Ali in the mosque at Kufa

13. Imam Hassan(as) takes over as Khalifa after Imam Ali(as)

MUAWIYA

MUAWIYA’S
DEATH IMAM

15. Imam Hussein (as) and his family wanted to bury
Imam hasan(as) nest to hi grandfather
Rasulallah(saw) but Some people objected and
even shot arrows at the coffin. Imam was buried
in Jannatul Baqi

16. Imam Hussein(as)
AS MUAWIYA LAY ON HIS DEATH BED, HE IGNORED
THE PEACE TRAETY HE HAD SIGNED AND APPOINTED
HIS EVIL SON YAZID TO BECOME THE NEXT CALIPH.
THIS EVIL OPPRESSOR THEN DEMANDED THAT IMAM
HUSSEIN (as) ACCEPT HIS KHILAFAT.
IMAM REFUSED AND THIS RESULTED IN THE BATTLE
OF KARBALA
