Solids have a definite shape and volume, cannot be compressed, and do not change shape to fit their container. Liquids have no definite shape but a definite volume, cannot be compressed but do assume the shape of their container. Gases have no definite shape or volume, can be compressed, and assume the shape of their container. The kinetic theory states that particles in all forms of matter are in constant motion.
