Culture of Malaysia
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Malaysia is a one of the multi cultural country. Cultures have been meeting and mixing in Malaysia
since the very beginning of its history. More than fifteen hundred years ago a Malay kingdom in
Bujang Valley welcomed traders from China and India. Malaysia s cultural mosaic is marked by many
different cultures, but several in particular have had especially lasting influence on the country. Chief
among these is the ancient Malay culture, and the cultures of Malaysia s two most prominent trading
partners throughout history the Chinese, and the Indians. These three groups are joined by a dizzying
array of indigenous tribes, many of which live in the forests and coastal areas of Borneo. Although
each of these cultures has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

In the workplace, employees are discouraged from questioning or critiquing senior level colleagues.
Here the senior level employees will have the high power to do some decision, without consulting
with the junior level employees. The gap between the senior level and junior level makes the

the parent s decision. Normally this will fall into studies, job selection and marriage. Parents in
Malaysia usually will chose the study field for their children s rather than ask their children s interest.

Rape In Rwanda Genocide
An estimated 250,000 to 500,000 woman were victims of rape during the Rwandan genocide. More
than 67% of these woman also suffered from the transmission of HIV through a system rape used as a
genocidal weapon. This was one of the many cruel methods carried out by Hutu nationalists to oppress
the Tutsi people, and eradicate their presence from Rwanda. Over a 3 month period Rwanda
experienced an outbreak of mass killings of Tutsi people and Hutu moderates. Media broadcasting
prompted Hutu nationalist to raise arms against their Tutsi oppressors, who for decades had subjected
them as inferior by influence of a biased imperial race ideology. Nationalism was a driving force on
both sides of these two major ethnic groups in Rwanda. The introduction

Rhetorical Analysis Mccarthy The Road
Nikita Patel
COMP 111.B12
02/28/2017
The language of the Road By McCarthy is scant yet poetic and morally inspiring. The text is
composed not of chapters but of discrete, punctuated paragraphs that mirror the movements of the
father and son on their journey. McCarthy s writing style reflects sparseness in that he chooses to write
in fragments and he keeps the father s and son s dialogue very choppy. Authors style of narrating this
story is very scrappy and sparse, which describes the infertile and miserable land through which the
man and boy are traveling. In the book we noticed, McCarthy makes less use of quotation and
apostrophes. There are no brakes through dialogues. Because this is a post apocalyptic story, the
exception of these punctuation basics might help as a way of author to show that in this new world,
fragments of the old world such as materialistic objects and humanity exists in scarce amount.
McCarthy s narrative voice is powerful and completely shapes the stories he tells. The story begins
with the man and boy making their journey along the road. The story is set in a post apocalyptic
world, date and place are unnamed. One can assume it is somewhere in America, most of the South,
because the man tells the boy that they re walking the state roads (43). Neither the man nor the boy is

Often it sounds like the Man (the father) is narrating the story. There are long paragraphs describing
the man s thoughts, memories, and perceptions. Then it will be a general discussion, but brief. It
employs a third person narration that is generally omniscient that allows the author a great deal of
freedom, and he can move from one character to another. He can change to more objective description
of setting. The Road employs the narrative shifts that emphasize the character s moral compass, as
well as the metaphorical nature of the so called

Analysis Of Of Mice And Men And Oliver Twist
Women of today or of the 21st century have the privilege of working, having an opinion and the right
not to be ruled by men. However, women from the 19th and the 20th centuries were dependent on
men, because only men were able to work good wages. The only job a woman had was to either be a
housewife and mother or to be a prostitute. Nancy is a girl from Great London from the book Oliver
Twist . She is a prostitute and a thief and she is the girlfriend of Bill Sikes. Curley s wife is a girl from
the 20th century from the book Of Mice and Men , who is married to Curley and lives in California,
USA. For this coursework, I am going to be exploring the presentation of these two characters, Nancy
and Curley s wife, from the books Of Men and Men and Oliver Twist .
The two characters were introduced by the authors Dickens and Steinbeck in a very negative yet
interesting way. In Of Mice and Men Candy says to George, I think Curley s married a tart . Steinbeck
uses dialogue to describe Curley s wife when Candy talks about her to George in a negative way. This
tells readers how men have no respect for women because she is called a tart which means a slut, and
conveys the idea that women were thought in a misogynistic manner by males in the 20th century. In
the Victorian era, women were supposed to be properly attired and dressed ladylike. Dickens uses
description to describe Nancy in an opposite manner, ....remarkably free and agreeable in their
manners . She acted in a carefree

Teotihuacan Art
Although the Olmec, Teotihuacan and Post Classic are civilizations that are years apart from each

forms of the objects of visual culture remain constant with the passage of time, while the symbolism
and ideology behind objects of visual culture are altered by the different civilizations that adopt the
form and by the passage of time. Form and style are directly correlated, as the style being used to
produce an object of visual culture will have an impact on its overall form and appearance. It is

While certain symbols and figures maintained the significance and meanings despite the passage of
time, art styles utilized by the different Mesoamerican civilizations evolved with the passage of time.
Having a unified system in which each of the figures possessed the same meanings and importance for
each civilization, allowed for the emergence of an art style that could be easily understood and utilized
by most. Before the Postclassical International system, there was not a unified art style used through
Mesoamerica; this system was an expression of the unification among the dominant religious and
political views at the time after the fall of Teotihuacan and before the rise of Tula (Kubler Ecleticism
172). Developing a unique, yet universal style was enabled by the similarities in the ideologies of the
different Mesoamerican civilizations. Through repeated interaction, the symbols and styles merged. In
order to create a system different cultures could understand and identify, the meaning attributed to
each of the symbols had to be somewhat similar throughout the different regions. The merger could
not have occurred if the symbolized used by the different population did not resemble each other. Due
to their similarity, with repeated interaction the

The Cultural Differences Of Irish Identity And Individual...
Many countries and people from different parts of the world established individual identities
throughout the course of the twentieth century which greatly impacted globalization. Identity relates to
self image and is crucial for the development of culture. A person s identity is defined as the totality of
one s self construal, in which how one construes oneself in the present expresses the continuity
between how one construes oneself as one was in the past and how one construes oneself as one
aspires to be in the future, (Weinreich, 1986). The way that people view themselves in the past,
present and future can alter the course of history for generations and dictates international relations for
years to come. Globalization, or the way that people interact with one another whether through ideas,
culture, money or socially is dependent upon preserving individualism which has not proven to be the
easiest task to master. The cultural differences related to the Irish living on the British Isles, the
Basque population in Spain, Serbs under Ottoman rule, as well as Moroccans under French control
can still be felt in many ways today and have impacted people and nations around the globe.
Analysis
The Irish have a longstanding history of struggle when it comes to establishing identity and
independence. As we witnessed with Irish immigrants coming to the United States in the 1800s,
difficulties were experienced in the British Isles which created a sense of tension and brought about

Beauty Is In The Eye Of The Beholder
According to a definition in the Merriam Webster Dictionary, beauty is the quality or aggregate of
qualities in a person or thing that gives pleasure to the senses or pleasurably exalts the mind or spirit.
With this definition, it can be said that beautiful things may include, but not limited to, natural
sceneries, classical music, and the taste of a quality dish since these stimulate pleasure. An Irish
romance novelist, Margaret Wolfe Hungerford (1878) stated in his novel entitled Molly Bawn that
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It is a commonly used expression in British and American
English. It is frequently phrased as beauty is in the eye of the beholder and beauty lies in the eye of the

A beautiful woman, one that is talked about, loved and desired, possess physical attractiveness. Good
looks are always what are seen first. To be considered as a beautiful woman, there are characteristics
that must be attained. An idea of a beautiful woman is usually one that is young and slender, and
white, a flawless person. It is how beauty in women is usually thought to be, because it is what media
tells the people. The ideas from the media cannot be avoided. It is everywhere and it is common for a
modern day citizen to access the media for activities such as reading fiction, newspaper and Internet
articles, watching shows, interacting with people online, and playing digital games. Citizens depend
on the media for learning new information and experiencing entertainment as part of a routine or day
to day basis. The media s portrayal of a beautiful woman appears in the television, printed
publications like magazines and books, social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, in video games
of different platforms, and even in the toys of children. The idea portrayed is constant among them.
The media gives an unrealistic portrayal of feminine beauty. The image of a woman with long legs,
small waist, a light skin tone, and sometimes big busted, has become a standard of beauty that has
been sensationalized and kept alive. The sexualization and objectification of women is evident

Good And Evil In J. R. Tolkien s The Lord Of The Rings
J. R. Tolkien makes it clear in his novel The Lord of the Rings that there is a never ending battle the
forces of good and evil. In the novel evil continues generate and spread in Middle earth, with the dark
conditions in which it flourishes also continuing to spread. The sources of good, or light start to fade,
making it easier to reject the power of light and become consumed by the dark. The expansion of the
dark creates a sense of lost hope and a lack of faith that helped defeat the other kingdoms in Middle
Earth. In our world darkness symbolizes and creates a feeling of sadness and defeat. Thus feeling of
defeat can people to feel that evil is stronger and more powerful than good. But Tolkien, does not
believe that evil is stronger than good as he seems to believe that evil can never overcome goodness.

To regain the goodness or light, is to remove whatever obscures it, such as Sauron s evil ring. In
Tolkien s world, Middle Earth, when the ring is destroyed, goodness and light is restored to the world,
illuminating the world as brightly as it was before. But as the journey of The Lord of the Rings series
tells, the overcoming of obstacles to regain light and goodness can be long, difficult, and comes at a
high cost. Even when the light is restored all of the damage caused by the evil still lingers, sometimes
even long after. The depiction of good versus evil in Tolkien s novel is clear, the goodness is
represented by light. The good characters having names such as Gandalf the White, while evil is
represented by the opposite. I argue that Tolkien depicts evil as darkness as he uses dark imagery to
represent evil things such as, shadows to represent evil

The Positive And Social Changes During The Industrial...
Imagine waking up at 4:30 in the morning and working until 9:00 at night starting at the age of 10
every single day until you die in your 20s from illness. This was the reality for the thousands of
workers during the Industrial Revolution, a time of innovation spanning the 18th and 19th centuries,
which brought significant changes to society. Changes during this time impacted society in both
positive and negative ways. While the Industrial Revolution created conveniences and comforts for
some people in society, the costs outweighed the benefits because people suffered tremendously under
the burden of such rapid technological growth.
Filthy living conditions in industrial cities harmed the inhabitants. Due to the rapid growth of
industrialization, cities experienced a population increase of a few hundred thousand every few
decades as people looked for work. (Document 14) The crowded conditions could not properly
support so many people. In 1829, an English poet named Robert Southey described the British city of
Manchester by saying Imagine this multitude crowded together in narrow streets, the houses all built
of brick and blackened with smoke: frequent buildings among them as large as convents, without their
antiquity, without their beauty, without their holiness. Southey goes on to say how work surpassed
even the importance of the church. [W]hen the bell rings, it is to call the wretches to work instead of
their prayers. (Document 16) Witness accounts of the conditions

Final Reflection On Food Nourishment
ACE 435
Final Reflection
Jon and Rachel are awesome! Thank you all for a wonderful class!
1. Which guest speaker hosted in class this semester had the greatest impact on you? What did you
learn from him/her and how might it affect your future? The topic that had the greatest impact on me
is about food security by professor Michelson. In the lecture, we discussed the importance of food
security, the trends of rising global food demand, factors that drives the expected demand increase,
and also the relationship between income and food. The first question she came up with is why food
security became such a major challenge worldwide? In my point of view, one of the simple reason is
that everybody needs food. By answering this question, she introduced the definition of food security,
and three hierarchical pillars. I learned that population growth, climate change, and water scarcity are
some of the factor that cause food security became a problem. Also, as people become more affluent
they start to change their tastes. For example, meat consumption in both developed and developing
countries predict to increase while their income rise. Then we analyzed couple graph and table. In the
over nourishment map, we found out that Europe, North America and Oceania seems waste the most
food. In the map of meat demand driver, I learned that since two third of meat Chinese consume is
pork, China actually consumes more total meat calories than US. Last but not least, professor
Michelson introduced Engel s law and Bennett s law. Engel s law stated that as income increase, the
portion of income spent on food falls, but the amount of money that expend on food might increase.
Bennett s law stated that as income rises, the portion of starchy food in the diet falls. One of the
interesting things I found out in her presentation is that if an average individual has an intake calories
below 1690 1930 kcal per day, he or she is undernourished. I was shock by this information because I
used to take around 1400 kcal per day, and I am actually undernourished if by this definition. After
listened to professor Michelson s speech, I realized that feeding the people is one of the greatest
challenged worldwide. The challenge is not only

The Lie Factory Summary
In The Lie Factory, Jill Lepore examines the great influence that money and business have in politics.
The first major event that clearly demonstrates this occurred in the 1934 election for governor of
California. Upton Sinclair seemed to lead the race, until Campaign Inc, founded by Clem Whitaker
and Leone Baxter, was hired to take him down. Their influence of that particular election led to
politics becoming essentially, the money making industry that it is today.
Lepore utilizes several quotes in her examination. She starts off with a kind of a remarkable event, that
leaves readers asking how it happened. After shocking or impressing the reader with the event, she
then explains it in a step by step analysis that is backed by her great use ... Show more content on

This statement is very true. What it is basically saying is that Americans, not all of them, but a lot of
them, do not take the time to really think about their voting decisions. This is turn makes Whitaker s
and Baxter s job so much easier. Since Americans do not really take the time to inform or educate
themselves in the person they are voting for, their campaign ads do not have to be all that clever or
complex. This is still true today. A lot of people just vote for their party, regardless of the candidate
that is chosen to represent their party. Rarely do people take a look at the person, rather than the party.
One candidate could be more qualified to be president, but just because they do not represent the same
party as the voter, people will not vote for them. The general public needs to educate themselves more
before they vote. Too many people just go with their first instinct, and do not think about the choice
that they are about to make. Surface level knowledge is not enough, especially in elections that could
have a big impact on the country. People just need to think and research a little bit more on their own,
so they can make a more informed and well thought out decision, without being influenced by
advertisements or other

Essay on Gettysburg
Gettysburg was the turning point in the American Civil War. Back in the day s before animation. More
importantly Gettysburg was the climatic clash between the two major American cultures of their time:
the North and the South. A climax of a conflict between two cultures with such vastly different ideals
that they could not coexist in one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
When looking at the causes of the Civil War, and eventually the Battle of Gettysburg, one must
understand the differences between these two cultures. The Confederacy had an agricultural economy
producing tobacco, corn, and cotton, with many huge plantations owned by a few very rich white men.
These owners lived off of the labor of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Abraham Lincoln, the commander and chief of the Union forces, along with many other Northerners
believed that Slavery was not only fundamentally wrong, but it was a great humiliation to America.
One can see that with these differences a conflict would be inevitable, but not many had predicted that
a full blown war would break out. One did and after three bloody and costly years for both sides we
come to the date of July 1, 1863.
The stage was set for an immense struggle at Gettysburg after the May 1863 Battle of Chancellors
Ville, when General Robert E. Lee made the historic decision to divide his already out manned and
outgunned Army of Northern Virginia. This apparent violation of basic strategic principles was
undertook at great risk, and only for the reason that a great payoff was possible. By creating 3 corps
from his 75,000 men, Lee made it possible to accomplish more tasks in the same amount of time. The
three commanders were, in theory, to be supported by the strategic reconnasaince of Jeb Stuart s
cavalry a role in which he failed dismally (and fatally) in the days and weeks leading up to
Gettysburg. Lee decided to take the offensive by invading Pennsylvania via Maryland in an attempt to
end the war quickly by threatening the Northern capitol and waging total war on the Northern citizens.
Unfortunately for Lee, Stuart s joyriding (Jeb delighted in riding complete circles around the Northern
armies and hence all of the public recognition and

Three of the ecosystem that I am benefiting from are pollination, nitrogen cycle and the safety of our

Donatello And Chaucer
The Renaissance was a time where education and an understanding of the world was promoted. Art
and architecture were valued and new styles of art were introduced. Two people who had an impact on
the world, both now and during the Renaissance are Donatello and Geoffrey Chaucer.
Donatello was born in 1386 and was the son of Niccolo Di Betto Bardi. He was a sculptor and was
known for his lifelike and detailed sculptures. He was an apprentice of Lorenzo Ghiberti, who taught
him about the science of metals and how to create them. In 1443 he made the bronze equestrian statue
Gattamelata, after the deceased warrior Erasmo De Narni. It had been the first bronze statue since
roman times and created conflict. It would become the baseline for many future equestrian monuments
in Italy and Europe. In 1445 he completed the Magdalene Penitentiary, a twisted figure commissioned
by the Santa Maria Del Cestello convent to motivate the prostitutes there to repent. His most important
work, the bronze version of David was five feet tall and was commissioned by Cosimo De Medici.
(Donatello biography, 2016.) As Donatello s work became popular, Cosimo De Medici would become
a very close friend to him and commissioned most of his work.

Attention Deficit Disorder comes under many names and manifests itself in many different ways. The
basic definition of ADD includes a difficulty in concentrating and staying on a task with or without
symptoms of hyperactivity. There are many different symptoms included in this definition, all listed in
DSM IV. In this paper I will not differentiate between subtypes of ADD as the predominantly
inattentive type, the predominately hyperactive impulsive type and the combined type.
The difficulties caused by ADD are numerous and manifest themselves especially in the educational
setting. This is not to say that there are not difficulties in other areas of the human existence as
personal relations, work etc. But the educational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The various activity levels of the brain are defined as brain waves and divided into four basic groups
according to wavelength. Delta waves range between 0 4 Hz, Theta waves range between 4 8 Hz,
Alpha waves range between 8 13 Hz and Beta waves are greater than 13 Hz. Alpha waves are typical
of states of quiet rest, none particular activity and sometimes when the eyes are closed. Beta waves are
typical of states of alertness, attentiveness or active thinking. Beta waves appear also in the REM
sleep stage along with Theta waves while the other sleep stages are characterized by Theta and Delta
brain activity .
Many researchers noted a discrepancy between the EEG of subjects with learning disabilities or ADD
and normal subjects. Typically, the ADD subjects were characterized by brain activity on the slower
end of the frequency spectrum quot; The most important characteristic is either an excessive amount of
theta activity, a lack of beta activity or a combination of these quot; (Lubar, 1985.
The existence of such differences suggests the usage of EEG recording as a good diagnostic tool in the

of ADD subject without imlying anything about effects on LD subjects. On that note, some work was

After working for Hospice of the Valley, I moved back to Tuba City. I was in a relationship for 8 years

with this individual, I thought I was set for life. Marriage, children, and the whole house with white

Imagine that, moving back to my hometown as a thirty year old single woman. I would envision the

The Rise and Fall of Legitimacy: A Review of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
from 1979 to 2005
Introduction
Legitimacy is the lifeblood of an organization. With conflict and competition a clear winner is
considered legitimate. Cooperation, however, offers the potential for legitimacy for multiple parties. A
legitimate organization has authority based on being representative, accountable, responsible,
effectiveness, efficiency, minimal interference from political pressure, and established rules. Rules
provide a rational foundation for procedures and operations. Administrative decisions grounded in
established rules are the basis of a legal rational authority and ensure that decisions are not biased or
influenced. Weber (1922) and Stillman (1998) identify the application of established, impersonal rules
and procedures as an important characteristic of an organization and crucial to a legitimate authority.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has seen a rise and fall regarding its view of
legitimacy between the years of 1979 and 2005. FEMA carried a reputation for a lack of legitimacy
for nearly two decades. Strong leadership and a new approach led to an increased respect and view of
legitimacy by the public. However, this was short lived. This paper will discuss the significant
contributing factor leading to FEMA s return to a lack of legitimacy in the response to Hurricane
Katrina.

Analysis Of Cooley s The Looking Glass Self
According to Cooley s The Looking Glass Self , the degree of personal insecurity one displays in
social situations is determined by how they believe others think of them. In other words, how we see
ourselves, according to Cooley, does not come from who we really are but rather how we believe other
people see us. There are three steps to Cooley s claim: first, we imagine how others see us. Second, we
imagine how others are judging us. Lastly, we react accordingly. The gendered commodification of
children toys sets the stage by giving children at a very young age preset judgements of how their
supposed to act in society. While toys aimed at little boys mostly include darker colors of blues,
blacks, reds, and involve some sort of action or superhero,

The Total Economic Burden Of Pain
About 41% of American adults suffer from chronic pain. The total economic burden of pain in 2010 is
estimated to range from $560 to $635 billion. Of these, lost productivity alone cost between $299 to
$335 billion; which approximates the yearly cost of heart condition and exceeding the total cost of
cancer and diabetes. On a per person basis, the incremental cost of all US health care expenditures in
2010 is $8233, moderate and severe chronic pain accounted for $4516 (55% of total) and $7726.20
(93.8% of total) respectively (Gaskin et. al. 2012). American workers with neck or back pain costs
between $5574 $8512, compared to those with no neck or back pain ($3,017) (Kleinman et al 2014).

Theme Of Death On The Nile, And Then There Were None
In her novels Death on the Nile and And Then There Were None Agatha Christie uses foreshadowing
and both external and internal conflict to portray the theme of her novel, the idea that justice will
always triumph. In Death on the Nile Poiret undertakes the position of bringing about what s due to
the guilty character. At the same time in And Then There Were None the protagonist is unclear
because while Justice Wargrave is the one seeking justice, his methods are flawed. Agatha Christie
uses mystery in both of her books to emphasize how the truth will come out in the end. This is clearly
shown in Death on The Nile where the outcome is clear cut while And Then There Were None is
undefined and elusive. Although both books use morbid and unethical methods of showing their
objective, both stress their point and Agatha Christie s opinion on ... Show more content on

Nuclear reactions are one of the most efficient and clean...
Nuclear reactions are one of the most efficient and clean ways to produce electricity. In 2012 alone,
nuclear reactors produced 13% of the world s electricity. Nuclear reactors are the structures that
contain this immense reaction. They are billion dollar structures and have to made just right for them
to work. If they work though, the energy output is enormous. To understand how nuclear reactors are
made, you have to understand how nuclear reactions works and what makes them go. There are two
types of nuclear reactions, fusion and fission. Fusion is what takes place in our sun. It is when two
particles fuse together to create a larger one. It produces so much heat an energy though, that we have
no way to contain it. Fission on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the most commonly thought of and commonly used is Uranium, or more specifically, Uranium
dioxide (UO2) or Uranium nitride (U2N3). Uranium is used because it has a large nucleus and can be
collected in large enough quantities to be used as a fuels. Uranium is combined with the dioxide to
allow the Uranium to be formed. Once they create the Uranium dioxide, it is pressed into pellets that
are then used in the nuclear reactions. They do this because of the ability to get the pellets to have as
few pores as possible. The less prose, the better the reaction. Uranium is also combined with nitride to
accomplish a similar objective. One huge advantage though is that Uranium Nitride has a much higher
thermal conductivity than Uranium dioxide. This helps greatly in nuclear reactions. Now, modern
nuclear reactors combine old generator technology with the new knowledge. Old generators worked
by heating up water and turning it into steam. They would either do this with oil or coal. The steam
would then push a turbine and spin a magnet. That magnet would then induce an electric current in a
coil, and that current would be used as electricity. The steam would then condense back down to water
and the process would repeat. The reason why people are looking to nuclear energy is the inefficiency
of old techniques and how dirty those processes were. When the oil or coal was burned, only some of
the heat would actually be used to heat the water

Capitalism And Urbanization In America
Urbanization already took hold on the east coast and slowly transitioned to the west coast. Capitalism
and industrialization found a new home with the mass immigration waves.
Manufacturing and mass production of clothing led to the popularization of these jeans. The
influence of clothes often plays a central role in the manifestation and preservation of social
standards. An emerging consumer culture emerged from the mines and from the need for
clothes that would sustain extreme elements and long laborious work schedules. Identity
becomes an important issue with the advent of mass consumption. Consumption in many ways
changed social norms during this time. Elements like dynamics of personal identity and mass
consumption reveal how cultural values are in constant cycles of being made and remade through
every day transactions.
Mass manufacturing of textiles and clothing arguably directly or indirectly affected the
economic growth of California and even the west coast. Additionally, mining booms in the west
demonstrated the growing co dependency of economies across the globe. Social and Economic
growth of the gold rush affected the United States. Additionally, while social upheaval reshaped
the population of the eastern U.S., the Pacific coast, instantaneously grew from an outpost to an
economic region rivaling affluence of the eastern establishment.

Many people believe that marriage is important in this day and age, but it holds little significance
compared to the importance of marriage in the Victorian era. In the Victorian era women were to get
married to a man of the same or a better social status, be good wives, and be a mother to her husband s
children. Very few marriages started with love, but a woman s life is not complete without being
married. Over time, the role of married women has evolved a great deal and they now have rights and
privileges. John Stuart Mill was one of the great thinkers of the Victorian era, and his essay The
Subjection of Women tells how few privileges women had and that they were slaves to their husbands.

Feminists ought to get a good whipping. Were woman to unsex themselves by claiming equality with
men, they would become the most hateful, heathen and disgusting of beings and would surely perish

There are many different reasons why women got married in the Victorian era. First and foremost was
due to the lack of education. Women were usually uneducated or were taught only basic
responsibilities. If a woman had too much education, Victorians thought that it would weaken their
womb and deform their bodies (Moore). From early childhood, girls were taught that they should get
married and have children when they get older (Hamilton). The little education that women got was
received mostly at home. There were some boarding schools, but there was no university for women
to attend. The studies that a girl would learn were French, drawing, dancing, music, and how to use
globes. If the boarding school was interested in teaching any practical skills, girls would learn plain
sewing as well as embroidery, and accounts. Through knowledge and education a woman could have
had a better sense of self worth and pride. On the contrary, boys were well educated at home by a tutor

Analysis Of Aladdin By John Musker And Ron Clements
Recently, over the Winter, I brought my girlfriend to watch the Broadway Musical Aladdin. It was a
very spectacular Broadway musical. I have been to many Broadway plays like Matilda and Wicked,
but Aladdin, in my opinion was my favorite one. The Broadway musical is based off the 1992 Disney
film Aladdin, which was directed by John Musker and Ron Clements. Since the musical was produced
in 2014, I got to see the original cast, which was pretty astounding. The music and acting was very
well played by the actors during the play. Besides the singing in the musical, there was an orchestra
playing their instruments underneath the stage, so all you can see is the conductor telling the orchestra
what to do. The subject of the musical was to entertain the people watching and to tell the story of the
Disney movie in a musical way. The purpose of the musical is to show how Princess Jasmine is being
forced who to marry by her father and she wants to be the person who decides that. In the play, three
characters were added which were not in the original movie, Aladdin s friends. Their names are
Babkak, Omar, and Kassim. I found it to be creative that the play creators added them. They called
themselves Four guys with one Arabian dream. Also in the movie, the villain, Jafar has an evil
sidekick which is a parrot, but in the play, Jafar s sidekick is a human. Another change was in the
movie Aladdin also a sidekick as well. Aladdin s sidekick is a monkey named Abu and in the play

Analysis Of Black Swan And Whiplash
Black Swan and Whiplash both feature intense practice sequences that build upon the narrative of
obsessing over a craft. This intense and obsessive practice leads up to the conclusion of the films;
where each character gives their absolute best performance. Nina s final transformation into an impure
and sinful character is completed when she grows black wings and slams her mother s hand in her
door. During the performance, Nina gets into an altercation with herself and stabs herself in the pure
White Swan costume. Andrew transforms into one of the greats as he is embarrassed by Fletcher on
stage. They both have their careers riding on their performances. They both fail to begin with; Andrew
not knowing the chart the rest of the band is playing and Nina falling during act I of Swan Lake. Yet
their greatness is proven when they give the final goodbye to their parental figures and former youth.
Andrew runs off stage, hugs his dad and his former reality, as he knows his life will never be what it
once was. Nina exchanges eye contact with her crying mother as she looks proudly onto her daughter
dancing like she never could.
Tchaikovsky s climactic music plays in the background as Nina takes out the broken piece of mirror
from her stomach. Her fear of disappointment and death has been relinquished as she s already

Non Traditional Student Essay
A non traditional student is defined as a student that has one or more of the following qualities:
delayed enrollment after high school, full time employment, part time college attendance, financial
independence, and/or does not have a high school diploma (Cox 7). The National Center for
Educational Statistics (NCES) estimated in a 1999 report that almost 75 percent of all undergraduates
possessed one or more nontraditional characteristics. However, according to the 2012 studies of
research studies in higher education, just 17 percent of college students are considered traditional
(Harpe and Kaniuka 250). With the overwhelming amount of non traditional undergraduates in
America comes three major challenges: institutional, situational, and dispositional.
The book After Admission highlights institutional challenges as a contributing factor for college
failure among disadvantaged students. Though community college enrollment rates have doubled in
the last thirty years, the level of efficiency of community colleges remains under scrutiny ... Show

The Themes of Life In life, there are many impediments and afflictions that every person has to go
through in different ways. There are things in life that cannot be taught, but learning the lessons can
sometimes save the day. In the novel, The Tale of Despereaux , Kate DiCamillo uses imagery and
metaphors to convey the theme of forgiveness and light versus dark to show how one has to forgive in
order to move on and be happy. The usage of Imagery and Metaphors in this novel brings a vivid
thought to the mind of the reader. DiCamillo uses light versus dark to symbolize the good and the bad.

DiCamillo provides the audience with imagery and also with the pictures she provides. Imagery can
be seen through the various illustrations that are given in the novel. The illustrations show that
Despereaux and Princess Pea are drawn with a glow or lightness around them symbolizing the good
that they have in them. Roscuro and the other rats, however, are shaded with a dark glow around them
showing how they are evil and filled with hatred. In the novel, the reader comes to find out that
Despereaux s own father has summoned him to the dungeon. Later, as the story progresses
Despereaux becomes covered with flour and other ingredients and is spotted by his father, and at that
point Despereaux forgives his father after seeing his watery eyes. The imagery in this section gives a
vivid view on how one should always learn how to forgive no matter how wrong the situation may be.
Another way that imagery is connected to the theme of forgiveness through imagery is when the
Princess Pea gives Roscuro an evil look, and that evil look is what makes him not forgive her. The
imagery provided is crucial to the story because by Roscuro not forgiving Princess Pea he is left with
the darkness in his heart that is unrepairable. Although, Roscuro did not forgive the Pea, she in fact did
forgive him at the end of the novel and at that point Roscuro is redeemed for the damage he has done.

Bartleby The Scrivener Writing Style
In Herman Melville s Bartleby, The Scrivener, Melville uses a range of devices in his writing that
makes his style distinguishable. Although he only focuses on one major setting throughout the story,
he uses it symbolically to demonstrate a developing theme. The uncommon comparisons he uses to
describe the characters provides the reader with interesting imagery to interpret. The narration that he
deliberately places throughout the story allows the reader to follow the narrator s thoughts as they
come. Melville s writing style is distinguished by his limited but symbolic setting, unique comparisons
that contribute to characterization, and frequent narration. Melville uses the limited setting of the short
story to illustrate a major theme that develops throughout the narrative. Although the narrator does
spend time in different locations, there is one setting that is thoroughly described and where most of
the story takes place: the office on Wall Street. The office doesn t have a view of outside; at one end is
a view of the white wall of the interior of a spacious sky light shaft, (2) and at the other is a lofty brick
wall (2). The office is surrounded by the two walls, creating an atmosphere of confinement. This
illustrates how trapped the narrator feels by Bartleby s presence; he no longer wants him in his office
but doesn t have the heart to force him to leave. The office itself is also described as being split into

Summary Of Charlotte Perkins Stetson s The Yellow Wallpaper
In the year 1892, Charlotte Perkins Stetson wrote a short story called The Yellow Wallpaper. During
the time Stetson wrote the story, some women were suffering from depression or extreme cases of
nervousness. These women would see a neurologist or a psychiatrist who would prescribe them with
the rest cure. The rest cure was a regimen of forced bed rest, restricted diet, and a combination of
massage and electrical muscle stimulation in place of exercise. (Harris) Stetson herself suffered from
depression. She received help from the famous neurologist S. Weir Mitchell, the inventor of the rest
cure, who prescribed her with the rest cure to take care of her depression. The Yellow Wallpaper, a

equilibrium to restore their respective inner peace. This power vacuum served as the cue for the Sons
of Jacob to come in. Their cunning circumvented the wisdom of the public and covered under to veil
of restoring peace to America. The population were of course more than willing to benefit from the
help being offered by these Christians. The Sons of Jacob were religious in stature, so majority of
people believed them, and not to mention the additional motivation of drawing power from them in
the time of crisis. With the euphoria of being saviours from such a tragic state, the group was able to
slowly exercise control towards the populace by first suspending the power of the Constitution, taking
away the right to read (for some), setting a caste system for everyone to follow, among others. Again,
the heavy influence of language in society can be seen here since the vessel in proper execution of the
multifarious plans of the new leaders had something to do with language (in

Venezuela one of the largest countries of south America was founded according to many historian by
Christopher Columbus who was on his third travel to reach the south America searching for gold.

of the beauty and the economic potential that made this country one the most powerful economic attic

Comparing Led Zeppelin s Stairway To Heaven
Led Zeppelin s Stairway to Heaven verdict was gold for the members of the iconic rock band. The
verdict went in their favor, and against Spirit, the group whose instrumental song, Taurus, they were
accused of plagiarizing in creating their mega million selling hit song. Though a chromatic descending
arpeggiated scale that skips the E note is featured in both songs, making a part of Stairway to Heaven
sound similar to a part of Taurus, the jury panel appeared to base its unanimous decision on Thursday
on the fact that the two songs, to their ears, had more differences than similarities between them,
according to Entertainment Weekly.
The decision that Led Zeppelin did not plagiarized the song by Spirit, written by the band s late
guitarist and songwriter, Randy Wolfe, was reached by a jury in a federal court room in Los Angeles
after a trial that lasted a week. Wolfe passed away in 1997. The case was brought against Led Zeppelin
by Michael Skidmore, a trustee of the estate of Wolfe. Wolfe s estate was asking for approximately
$40 million in damages, as well as a songwriting credit for Wolfe and a share of future royalties made
by Zeppelin s Stairway to Heaven. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A Comparison Of Mark Twain And Mark Twain
Nelson Mandela once said, Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the
world. As the world grew, Mark Twain and Langston Hughes became writers, poets, and so on. With
the knowledge that Hughes and Twain had, they made impacts on the world. However, the ability that
these two men had allowed them to be motivational historical figures. Still today, their works and
ideas for writing are still helpful to other writers. As writers, these two had fluent and intellectual
minds, they did not give up. So therefore, with Twain and Hughes being such prominent figures with
immaculate writing capabilities, their masterpieces can be compared.
Twain said, ...it is good to begin life poor; it is good to begin life rich these are wholesome; but to
begin it prospectively rich! The man who has not experienced it [poverty] cannot imagine the curse of
it ( Mark Twain Fun Facts 2). As life started for Twain, he went through many obstacles. In addition,
Mark Twain started writing short stories that evolved over time. Not all people in the world have the
most wealthiest lifestyle, Twain, on the other hand, was born 2 months premature and also had to deal
with poor health for ten years of his life. Mark Twain had no one to turn to for inspiration or
motivation. Twain left school to become a printer s apprentice( Mark Twain Biography 2). Not to
mention, Mark Twain wrote in a manner that society could relate. For most of his life up until he was

Hip Bursitis Research Paper
Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome
The medical definition of bursitis is an inflammation or irritation of the bursa, which is a small, fluid
filled sac found in articulation. Inflammation occurs from the decrease of friction of the bursa between
the bones, muscles, and skin. Bursitis can be an acute or chronic condition. Acute bursitis are often a
result from an infection or injury, while chronic bursitis are caused by long periods of repetitive
motion or use of the affected joint. The most common sites include the elbow, hip, shoulder, knee, heel
and even the base of the big toe.
Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome (formally known as Trochanteric Bursitis, or GTPS for short) is a
hip bursitis which distresses the superficial trochanteric bursa located over the greater trochanter of
the femur. Inflammation of the trochanteric bursa is due to muscles and tendons rubbing over the
bursa causing friction against the femur. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rest, cold therapy and non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS), such as aspirin and
ibuprofen, are most effective to reduce inflammation stemming from injury and overuse. Combination
of physical therapy and activity modification are recommended for proper stretching and
strengthening of the hip and to avoid activities which may aggravate the area. In the event of a septic
hip bursitis, an infection of the bursa, the doctor may perform an aspiration, in which a needle and
syringe is used to remove fluid from the bursa followed by a prescription of antibiotics to prevent the
spread of infection. If rest, physical therapy and NSAIDs are no longer effective in relieving the pain,
then corticosteroid injections are administered. Although surgery is rarely needed, it may be warranted
with some chronic hip bursitis. The three types of surgery most often used are tendon repair and
iliotibial band release, osteotomy of the greater trochanter and

The Louisiana Purchase Affected The Boundaries Of The...
The Louisiana Purchase affected the boundaries of the U.S. because when Jefferson bought the land,
the boundaries were not clear. Spain claimed the border was about one hundred miles west of the
Mississippi River, while Jefferson was under the impression that it was around eight hundred miles
further west, which was defined by the crest of the Rocky Mountains. This lead to four different
government funded expeditions. The first was in 1804 when Lewis and Clark led an expedition
westward to determine the upper reaches of the Missouri River. Throughout the expedition Lewis and
Clark were instructed to study the Indian culture, such as plants and animals. They were able to
explore the Indian culture when they stayed their first winter in huts beside the Mandan Indians.
Without the help from the Indians they would not have survived the winter. They also had to draw out
the geography of the West. After the treacherous journey, they reached the Pacific Ocean on
November 7, 1805. They made their journey back to St. Louis and arrived back in September 1806.
The other three expeditions that took place between 1804 and 1806 were to determine the
southwestern border. The first group went down the Red River to the Ouachita River, ending in
current day Arkansas. The second group went west into eastern Texas along the Red River and the
third group ended up going too far into the Spaniard s Territory, which caused them to get arrested and
then released soon after. The Adams Onis treaty

What Is The Author Purpose Of The Vagina Monologues
Eve Ensler, the author of The Vagina Monologues, writes a novel discussing all there is to talk about
when it comes to vagina s. This might sound odd to most but to me makes total sense in todays
society. Sex is becoming more and more popular in younger ages, talked about in movies, magazines,
commercials exedra however, the word vagina is still seen as a taboo word, even for women. I chose
to watch the HBO monologues that included the one, two and three episodes. These episodes talked
about various things. To begin, Ensler talked about her journey that lead to her findings about what
women actually thought of their own bodies. Ensler interviewed over 200 women from young to old
and asked them all the same question.. Have you seen it before ... Show more content on

This is my favorite quote because it explains the scenario perfectly. Throughout her book, but
especially on her HBO channels Eve Ensel uses various voices and forms of humor to lighten her not
so talked about topic. This form of interaction allowed her to enhance her discussions and make a
connection with not only her audience but girls around the world too. Ensel s main purpose for writing
her novel was to let women know that the vagina is a natural thing, it should not be hidden, visually or
verbally because there is nothing to be embarrassed of. They asked me to be present for the birth Ensel
explained when talking about her son s baby(Ensel 119). Now that instance was what Ensel described
to be her key moment where she realized how amazing the vagina actually was. How it could give life
and all. On Academic Search Elite I found that Michelle hammers, a journalist stated Ensler s concern
is this: if we cannot talk about the vagina openly, respectfully, and publicly, how can we ever hope to
change the attitudes that underlie the violent and oppressive practices that are visited upon women?
(Hammers). By the end of her book, the auhtor just wanted women to feel as if though they could talk
about their vagina and feel good about it rather than being ashamed for it. Ensler made an impact on
women everywhere, and that is why her novel is not simply

Chris Matthews
I. All Politics Is Local My first topic comes from the All Politics Is Local section of Chris Matthews
book. In politics, anyone who holds a place or is trying to hold a place in the political scene is
constantly influencing others, correct? What Matthews means by all politics is local is basically if you
want to influence someone, do not focus on the big picture. Instead, you should focus on what matters
personally to the people you strive to influence. A fine example of this rule is Lawton Chiles. Chiles
was a sustained senator from the sunshine state of Florida. He rejected the appeal of well tailored, dark
blue suits that were so well worn in the nations capitol. Once, Chiles stated to a staff member, When I

What if the shots fired are complete lies? When you do not respond to those attacks, it creates damage,
and it is usually more so than you may realize. You can fire back by catching them in a lie, ridiculing
their accusations, or use the power of the opposing force to bring them down. Method No.1: Catch
Them in a Lie. Utah Senator Frank Moss was accused by his Republican opponent with supporting
violent demonstrations by students against the Vietnam War. By running ads in the newspaper
displaying the letter he had sent to young demonstrators supporting their cause, but urging them to
avoid violence, Moss destroyed his opponent. The headline of the paper read: Here s the Famous
Letter. This won the election of 1970. Method No.2: Ridicule. Franklin Roosevelt was running for a
fourth term in 1944 against Thomas Dewey. There were claims by the Republicans that Roosevelt had
abused office by dispatching a destroyer to retrieve his dog in Alaska. Roosevelt made a few classic
remarks at a Washington black tie dinner. He rose and said, Republican leaders have not been content
with attacks on me or my wife or my sons. No, not content with that, they now include my little dog,
Fala. Well, of course, I don t resent attacks, and my family doesn t resent attacks, but Fala does resent
them. You know, Fala is Scotch, and being a Scottie, as soon as he learned that Republican fiction
writers had concocted a story that I had left him behind on the Aleutian

Essay On Death Of Iran
The first 24 hours in Iran are crucial when a person dies In Iran. It is believed that a person should be
buried within the first 24 hours if the family does not want to be cursed. If the person dies during the
days they are taken to special places where the body is washed and wrapped in white cloth. The white
cloth should be of kafan, which is a special cloth but due to its high price, now its only white cloth.
Before they are warped with the kafan they warp the legs from belly button down, cover the eyes, and
breasts if female. After the body is wrapped they should tie each end with ropes and never the ends
should never be sewn. Before they are wrapped the deceased should also be cleansed by three things

In ancient times there was segregation in funerals where females could not attend the funerals of their
male relatives, but modern Iranians don t do this unless extremely traditional. Dressing in black for the
funeral is important for close relatives, and they should wear black for at least 40 days some last even
a year. To stop wearing black an elderly in the family must change colors signaling the end of the
mourn. The time of day is important for someone who died if the person dies during the day they are
taken to the local mosque to be cleaned and prepared for burial but if the person dies during the night
lights and candles are placed around the deceased because they believe that the body should not be left
in darkness for evil spirits to attack it. Burial sites cannot be shared with non Muslim cemeteries. The
excessive cost of grave sites has forced family members to be buried on top of each other. Before
pacing the body into the grave, the coffin is placed on the ground three times and lifted their times and
on the fourth attempt is finally placed on the grave. A gravedigger or a member of the family is on the
pit positioned to place the body according to religious prescriptions, the deceased is placed on the
right side facing Mecca, the face should be exposed and part of the kafan placed under the head where
a brick is placed. The gravestones most often contain verses from the Quran. If there is no gravestone,
the grave top should be higher than the

  • 2. Culture of Malaysia 1.0 INTRODUCTION Malaysia is a one of the multi cultural country. Cultures have been meeting and mixing in Malaysia since the very beginning of its history. More than fifteen hundred years ago a Malay kingdom in Bujang Valley welcomed traders from China and India. Malaysia s cultural mosaic is marked by many different cultures, but several in particular have had especially lasting influence on the country. Chief among these is the ancient Malay culture, and the cultures of Malaysia s two most prominent trading partners throughout history the Chinese, and the Indians. These three groups are joined by a dizzying array of indigenous tribes, many of which live in the forests and coastal areas of Borneo. Although each of these cultures has ... • 5. Rhetorical Analysis Mccarthy The Road Nikita Patel COMP 111.B12 02/28/2017 The language of the Road By McCarthy is scant yet poetic and morally inspiring. The text is composed not of chapters but of discrete, punctuated paragraphs that mirror the movements of the father and son on their journey. McCarthy s writing style reflects sparseness in that he chooses to write in fragments and he keeps the father s and son s dialogue very choppy. Authors style of narrating this story is very scrappy and sparse, which describes the infertile and miserable land through which the man and boy are traveling. In the book we noticed, McCarthy makes less use of quotation and apostrophes. There are no brakes through dialogues. Because this is a post apocalyptic story, the exception of these punctuation basics might help as a way of author to show that in this new world, fragments of the old world such as materialistic objects and humanity exists in scarce amount. McCarthy s narrative voice is powerful and completely shapes the stories he tells. The story begins with the man and boy making their journey along the road. The story is set in a post apocalyptic world, date and place are unnamed. One can assume it is somewhere in America, most of the South, because the man tells the boy that they re walking the state roads (43). Neither the man nor the boy is given a ... • 6. Analysis Of Of Mice And Men And Oliver Twist Women of today or of the 21st century have the privilege of working, having an opinion and the right not to be ruled by men. However, women from the 19th and the 20th centuries were dependent on men, because only men were able to work good wages. The only job a woman had was to either be a housewife and mother or to be a prostitute. Nancy is a girl from Great London from the book Oliver Twist . She is a prostitute and a thief and she is the girlfriend of Bill Sikes. Curley s wife is a girl from the 20th century from the book Of Mice and Men , who is married to Curley and lives in California, USA. For this coursework, I am going to be exploring the presentation of these two characters, Nancy and Curley s wife, from the books Of Men and Men and Oliver Twist . The two characters were introduced by the authors Dickens and Steinbeck in a very negative yet interesting way. In Of Mice and Men Candy says to George, I think Curley s married a tart . Steinbeck uses dialogue to describe Curley s wife when Candy talks about her to George in a negative way. This tells readers how men have no respect for women because she is called a tart which means a slut, and conveys the idea that women were thought in a misogynistic manner by males in the 20th century. In the Victorian era, women were supposed to be properly attired and dressed ladylike. Dickens uses description to describe Nancy in an opposite manner, ....remarkably free and agreeable in their manners . She acted in a carefree ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While certain symbols and figures maintained the significance and meanings despite the passage of time, art styles utilized by the different Mesoamerican civilizations evolved with the passage of time. Having a unified system in which each of the figures possessed the same meanings and importance for each civilization, allowed for the emergence of an art style that could be easily understood and utilized by most. Before the Postclassical International system, there was not a unified art style used through Mesoamerica; this system was an expression of the unification among the dominant religious and political views at the time after the fall of Teotihuacan and before the rise of Tula (Kubler Ecleticism 172). Developing a unique, yet universal style was enabled by the similarities in the ideologies of the different Mesoamerican civilizations. Through repeated interaction, the symbols and styles merged. In order to create a system different cultures could understand and identify, the meaning attributed to each of the symbols had to be somewhat similar throughout the different regions. • 10. The Cultural Differences Of Irish Identity And Individual... Many countries and people from different parts of the world established individual identities throughout the course of the twentieth century which greatly impacted globalization. Identity relates to self image and is crucial for the development of culture. A person s identity is defined as the totality of one s self construal, in which how one construes oneself in the present expresses the continuity between how one construes oneself as one was in the past and how one construes oneself as one aspires to be in the future, (Weinreich, 1986). The way that people view themselves in the past, present and future can alter the course of history for generations and dictates international relations for years to come. Globalization, or the way that people interact with one another whether through ideas, culture, money or socially is dependent upon preserving individualism which has not proven to be the easiest task to master. The cultural differences related to the Irish living on the British Isles, the Basque population in Spain, Serbs under Ottoman rule, as well as Moroccans under French control can still be felt in many ways today and have impacted people and nations around the globe. Analysis The Irish have a longstanding history of struggle when it comes to establishing identity and independence. As we witnessed with Irish immigrants coming to the United States in the 1800s, difficulties were experienced in the British Isles which created a sense of tension and brought about ... Beauty Is In The Eye Of The Beholder According to a definition in the Merriam Webster Dictionary, beauty is the quality or aggregate of qualities in a person or thing that gives pleasure to the senses or pleasurably exalts the mind or spirit. With this definition, it can be said that beautiful things may include, but not limited to, natural sceneries, classical music, and the taste of a quality dish since these stimulate pleasure. An Irish romance novelist, Margaret Wolfe Hungerford (1878) stated in his novel entitled Molly Bawn that Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. • 13. The Positive And Social Changes During The Industrial... Imagine waking up at 4:30 in the morning and working until 9:00 at night starting at the age of 10 every single day until you die in your 20s from illness. This was the reality for the thousands of workers during the Industrial Revolution, a time of innovation spanning the 18th and 19th centuries, which brought significant changes to society. Changes during this time impacted society in both positive and negative ways. While the Industrial Revolution created conveniences and comforts for some people in society, the costs outweighed the benefits because people suffered tremendously under the burden of such rapid technological growth. Filthy living conditions in industrial cities harmed the inhabitants. Due to the rapid growth of industrialization, cities experienced a population increase of a few hundred thousand every few decades as people looked for work. (Document 14) The crowded conditions could not properly support so many people. In 1829, an English poet named Robert Southey described the British city of Manchester by saying Imagine this multitude crowded together in narrow streets, the houses all built of brick and blackened with smoke: frequent buildings among them as large as convents, without their antiquity, without their beauty, without their holiness. Southey goes on to say how work surpassed even the importance of the church. [W]hen the bell rings, it is to call the wretches to work instead of their prayers. • 14. Final Reflection On Food Nourishment ACE 435 Final Reflection Jon and Rachel are awesome! Thank you all for a wonderful class! 1. Which guest speaker hosted in class this semester had the greatest impact on you? What did you learn from him/her and how might it affect your future? The topic that had the greatest impact on me is about food security by professor Michelson. In the lecture, we discussed the importance of food security, the trends of rising global food demand, factors that drives the expected demand increase, and also the relationship between income and food. The first question she came up with is why food security became such a major challenge worldwide? In my point of view, one of the simple reason is that everybody needs food. By answering this question, she introduced the definition of food security, and three hierarchical pillars. I learned that population growth, climate change, and water scarcity are some of the factor that cause food security became a problem. Also, as people become more affluent they start to change their tastes. For example, meat consumption in both developed and developing countries predict to increase while their income rise. Then we analyzed couple graph and table. In the over nourishment map, we found out that Europe, North America and Oceania seems waste the most food. In the map of meat demand driver, I learned that since two third of meat Chinese consume is pork, China actually consumes more total meat calories than US. Last but not least, professor Michelson introduced Engel s law and Bennett s law. Engel s law stated that as income increase, the portion of income spent on food falls, but the amount of money that expend on food might increase. Bennett s law stated that as income rises, the portion of starchy food in the diet falls. One of the interesting things I found out in her presentation is that if an average individual has an intake calories below 1690 1930 kcal per day, he or she is undernourished. I was shock by this information because I used to take around 1400 kcal per day, and I am actually undernourished if by this definition. After listened to professor Michelson s speech, I realized that feeding the people is one of the greatest challenged worldwide. The challenge is not only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first major event that clearly demonstrates this occurred in the 1934 election for governor of California. Upton Sinclair seemed to lead the race, until Campaign Inc, founded by Clem Whitaker and Leone Baxter, was hired to take him down. Their influence of that particular election led to politics becoming essentially, the money making industry that it is today. Lepore utilizes several quotes in her examination. This statement is very true. What it is basically saying is that Americans, not all of them, but a lot of them, do not take the time to really think about their voting decisions. This is turn makes Whitaker s and Baxter s job so much easier. Since Americans do not really take the time to inform or educate themselves in the person they are voting for, their campaign ads do not have to be all that clever or complex. This is still true today. A lot of people just vote for their party, regardless of the candidate that is chosen to represent their party. Rarely do people take a look at the person, rather than the party. One candidate could be more qualified to be president, but just because they do not represent the same party as the voter, people will not vote for them. The general public needs to educate themselves more before they vote. Too many people just go with their first instinct, and do not think about the choice that they are about to make. Surface level knowledge is not enough, especially in elections that could have a big impact on the country. More importantly Gettysburg was the climatic clash between the two major American cultures of their time: the North and the South. A climax of a conflict between two cultures with such vastly different ideals that they could not coexist in one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. When looking at the causes of the Civil War, and eventually the Battle of Gettysburg, one must understand the differences between these two cultures. One did and after three bloody and costly years for both sides we come to the date of July 1, 1863. The stage was set for an immense struggle at Gettysburg after the May 1863 Battle of Chancellors Ville, when General Robert E. This apparent violation of basic strategic principles was undertook at great risk, and only for the reason that a great payoff was possible. Two people who had an impact on the world, both now and during the Renaissance are Donatello and Geoffrey Chaucer. Donatello was born in 1386 and was the son of Niccolo Di Betto Bardi. He was a sculptor and was known for his lifelike and detailed sculptures. He was an apprentice of Lorenzo Ghiberti, who taught him about the science of metals and how to create them. In 1443 he made the bronze equestrian statue Gattamelata, after the deceased warrior Erasmo De Narni. It had been the first bronze statue since roman times and created conflict. It would become the baseline for many future equestrian monuments in Italy and Europe. In 1445 he completed the Magdalene Penitentiary, a twisted figure commissioned by the Santa Maria Del Cestello convent to motivate the prostitutes there to repent. His most important work, the bronze version of David was five feet tall and was commissioned by Cosimo De Medici. (Donatello biography, 2016.) As Donatello s work became popular, Cosimo De Medici would become a very close friend to him and commissioned most of his work. The basic definition of ADD includes a difficulty in concentrating and staying on a task with or without symptoms of hyperactivity. There are many different symptoms included in this definition, all listed in DSM IV. In this paper I will not differentiate between subtypes of ADD as the predominantly inattentive type, the predominately hyperactive impulsive type and the combined type. The difficulties caused by ADD are numerous and manifest themselves especially in the educational setting. This is not to say that there are not difficulties in other areas of the human existence as personal relations, work etc. But the educational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The various activity levels of the brain are defined as brain waves and divided into four basic groups according to wavelength. Delta waves range between 0 4 Hz, Theta waves range between 4 8 Hz, Alpha waves range between 8 13 Hz and Beta waves are greater than 13 Hz. Alpha waves are typical of states of quiet rest, none particular activity and sometimes when the eyes are closed. Beta waves are typical of states of alertness, attentiveness or active thinking. Beta waves appear also in the REM sleep stage along with Theta waves while the other sleep stages are characterized by Theta and Delta brain activity . Many researchers noted a discrepancy between the EEG of subjects with learning disabilities or ADD and normal subjects. Typically, the ADD subjects were characterized by brain activity on the slower end of the frequency spectrum quot; The most important characteristic is either an excessive amount of theta activity, a lack of beta activity or a combination of these quot; (Lubar, 1985. • 22. The Federal Emergency Management Agency The Rise and Fall of Legitimacy: A Review of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) from 1979 to 2005 Introduction Legitimacy is the lifeblood of an organization. With conflict and competition a clear winner is considered legitimate. Cooperation, however, offers the potential for legitimacy for multiple parties. A legitimate organization has authority based on being representative, accountable, responsible, effectiveness, efficiency, minimal interference from political pressure, and established rules. Rules provide a rational foundation for procedures and operations. Administrative decisions grounded in established rules are the basis of a legal rational authority and ensure that decisions are not biased or influenced. Weber (1922) and Stillman (1998) identify the application of established, impersonal rules and procedures as an important characteristic of an organization and crucial to a legitimate authority. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has seen a rise and fall regarding its view of legitimacy between the years of 1979 and 2005. FEMA carried a reputation for a lack of legitimacy for nearly two decades. Strong leadership and a new approach led to an increased respect and view of legitimacy by the public. However, this was short lived. This paper will discuss the significant contributing factor leading to FEMA s return to a lack of legitimacy in the response to Hurricane Katrina. To understand how nuclear reactors are made, you have to understand how nuclear reactions works and what makes them go. There are two types of nuclear reactions, fusion and fission. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the most commonly thought of and commonly used is Uranium, or more specifically, Uranium dioxide (UO2) or Uranium nitride (U2N3). Uranium is used because it has a large nucleus and can be collected in large enough quantities to be used as a fuels. Uranium is combined with the dioxide to allow the Uranium to be formed. Once they create the Uranium dioxide, it is pressed into pellets that are then used in the nuclear reactions. They do this because of the ability to get the pellets to have as few pores as possible. The less prose, the better the reaction. Uranium is also combined with nitride to accomplish a similar objective. One huge advantage though is that Uranium Nitride has a much higher thermal conductivity than Uranium dioxide. This helps greatly in nuclear reactions. Now, modern nuclear reactors combine old generator technology with the new knowledge. Old generators worked by heating up water and turning it into steam. They would either do this with oil or coal. The steam would then push a turbine and spin a magnet. That magnet would then induce an electric current in a coil, and that current would be used as electricity. The steam would then condense back down to water and the process would repeat. The reason why people are looking to nuclear energy is the inefficiency of old techniques and how dirty those processes were. Roscuro and the other rats, however, are shaded with a dark glow around them showing how they are evil and filled with hatred. Another way that imagery is connected to the theme of forgiveness through imagery is when the Princess Pea gives Roscuro an evil look, and that evil look is what makes him not forgive her. The imagery provided is crucial to the story because by Roscuro not forgiving Princess Pea he is left with the darkness in his heart that is unrepairable. The narration that he deliberately places throughout the story allows the reader to follow the narrator s thoughts as they come. The office doesn t have a view of outside; at one end is a view of the white wall of the interior of a spacious sky light shaft, (2) and at the other is a lofty brick wall (2). The office is surrounded by the two walls, creating an atmosphere of confinement. This illustrates how trapped the narrator feels by Bartleby s presence; he no longer wants him in his office but doesn t have the heart to force him to leave. The office itself is also described as being split into two rooms, Turkey and Nippers occupying one and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Summary Of Charlotte Perkins Stetson s The Yellow Wallpaper In the year 1892, Charlotte Perkins Stetson wrote a short story called The Yellow Wallpaper. During the time Stetson wrote the story, some women were suffering from depression or extreme cases of nervousness. These women would see a neurologist or a psychiatrist who would prescribe them with the rest cure. The rest cure was a regimen of forced bed rest, restricted diet, and a combination of massage and electrical muscle stimulation in place of exercise. (Harris) Stetson herself suffered from depression. She received help from the famous neurologist S. Weir Mitchell, the inventor of the rest cure, who prescribed her with the rest cure to take care of her depression. The Yellow Wallpaper, a narrative about the rest cure, explains how confinement can lead to insanity through symbolism, characterization, and imagery. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Amidst the civil unrest that occurred prior to the beginning of The Handmaid s Tale, the Sons of Jacob were able to establish their theocratic society by executing insidious machinations calculated to control the United States, and thereafter successfully turning it into Gilead. The Sons of Jacob employed several schemes in carrying out their theocracy over Gilead, a substantial part of which shall be discussed in this paper. Perhaps the most important act of the regime in gaining control of the society is the prohibition of reading by most women. They practically blocked the access towards literacy, which the majority enjoyed in the once democratic United States of America. From this, it was clear that the new regime was more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The answer to the above stated question may seem to be hard, but a careful perusal to the history of Gilead would reveal that the change brought about by the Sons of Jacob was gradual and calculated. It was not done overnight. The terrorist attack brought about panic among the populace. The dazed public, with no leader to govern them, was puzzled at the current state of things and needed equilibrium to restore their respective inner peace. This power vacuum served as the cue for the Sons of Jacob to come in. Their cunning circumvented the wisdom of the public and covered under to veil of restoring peace to America. The population were of course more than willing to benefit from the help being offered by these Christians. The Sons of Jacob were religious in stature, so majority of people believed them, and not to mention the additional motivation of drawing power from them in the time of crisis. With the euphoria of being saviours from such a tragic state, the group was able to slowly exercise control towards the populace by first suspending the power of the Constitution, taking away the right to read (for some), setting a caste system for everyone to follow, among others. Again, the heavy influence of language in society can be seen here since the vessel in proper execution of the multifarious plans of the new leaders had something to do with language (in ... The verdict went in their favor, and against Spirit, the group whose instrumental song, Taurus, they were accused of plagiarizing in creating their mega million selling hit song. Though a chromatic descending arpeggiated scale that skips the E note is featured in both songs, making a part of Stairway to Heaven sound similar to a part of Taurus, the jury panel appeared to base its unanimous decision on Thursday on the fact that the two songs, to their ears, had more differences than similarities between them, according to Entertainment Weekly. The decision that Led Zeppelin did not plagiarized the song by Spirit, written by the band s late guitarist and songwriter, Randy Wolfe, was reached by a jury in a federal court room in Los Angeles after a trial that lasted a week. Wolfe passed away in 1997. The case was brought against Led Zeppelin by Michael Skidmore, a trustee of the estate of Wolfe. Hip Bursitis Research Paper Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome The medical definition of bursitis is an inflammation or irritation of the bursa, which is a small, fluid filled sac found in articulation. Inflammation occurs from the decrease of friction of the bursa between the bones, muscles, and skin. Bursitis can be an acute or chronic condition. Acute bursitis are often a result from an infection or injury, while chronic bursitis are caused by long periods of repetitive motion or use of the affected joint. The most common sites include the elbow, hip, shoulder, knee, heel and even the base of the big toe. Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome (formally known as Trochanteric Bursitis, or GTPS for short) is a hip bursitis which distresses the superficial trochanteric bursa located over the greater trochanter of the femur. • 47. The Louisiana Purchase Affected The Boundaries Of The... The Louisiana Purchase affected the boundaries of the U.S. because when Jefferson bought the land, the boundaries were not clear. Spain claimed the border was about one hundred miles west of the Mississippi River, while Jefferson was under the impression that it was around eight hundred miles further west, which was defined by the crest of the Rocky Mountains. This lead to four different government funded expeditions. The first was in 1804 when Lewis and Clark led an expedition westward to determine the upper reaches of the Missouri River. Throughout the expedition Lewis and Clark were instructed to study the Indian culture, such as plants and animals. They were able to explore the Indian culture when they stayed their first winter in huts beside the Mandan Indians. Without the help from the Indians they would not have survived the winter. They also had to draw out the geography of the West. After the treacherous journey, they reached the Pacific Ocean on November 7, 1805. They made their journey back to St. Louis and arrived back in September 1806. The other three expeditions that took place between 1804 and 1806 were to determine the southwestern border. The first group went down the Red River to the Ouachita River, ending in current day Arkansas. The second group went west into eastern Texas along the Red River and the third group ended up going too far into the Spaniard s Territory, which caused them to get arrested and then released soon after. This might sound odd to most but to me makes total sense in todays society. Sex is becoming more and more popular in younger ages, talked about in movies, magazines, commercials exedra however, the word vagina is still seen as a taboo word, even for women. I chose to watch the HBO monologues that included the one, two and three episodes. These episodes talked about various things. To begin, Ensler talked about her journey that lead to her findings about what women actually thought of their own bodies. Ensler interviewed over 200 women from young to old and asked them all the same question.. Have you seen it before ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is my favorite quote because it explains the scenario perfectly. Throughout her book, but especially on her HBO channels Eve Ensel uses various voices and forms of humor to lighten her not so talked about topic. This form of interaction allowed her to enhance her discussions and make a connection with not only her audience but girls around the world too. Ensel s main purpose for writing her novel was to let women know that the vagina is a natural thing, it should not be hidden, visually or verbally because there is nothing to be embarrassed of. They asked me to be present for the birth Ensel explained when talking about her son s baby(Ensel 119). Now that instance was what Ensel described to be her key moment where she realized how amazing the vagina actually was. How it could give life and all. On Academic Search Elite I found that Michelle hammers, a journalist stated Ensler s concern is this: if we cannot talk about the vagina openly, respectfully, and publicly, how can we ever hope to change the attitudes that underlie the violent and oppressive practices that are visited upon women? (Hammers). By the end of her book, the auhtor just wanted women to feel as if though they could talk about their vagina and feel good about it rather than being ashamed for it. In politics, anyone who holds a place or is trying to hold a place in the political scene is constantly influencing others, correct? What Matthews means by all politics is local is basically if you want to influence someone, do not focus on the big picture. Instead, you should focus on what matters personally to the people you strive to influence. A fine example of this rule is Lawton Chiles. Chiles was a sustained senator from the sunshine state of Florida. He rejected the appeal of well tailored, dark blue suits that were so well worn in the nations capitol. When you do not respond to those attacks, it creates damage, and it is usually more so than you may realize. You can fire back by catching them in a lie, ridiculing their accusations, or use the power of the opposing force to bring them down. Method No.1: Catch Them in a Lie. Utah Senator Frank Moss was accused by his Republican opponent with supporting violent demonstrations by students against the Vietnam War. By running ads in the newspaper displaying the letter he had sent to young demonstrators supporting their cause, but urging them to avoid violence, Moss destroyed his opponent. The headline of the paper read: Here s the Famous Letter. This won the election of 1970. Method No.2: Ridicule. Franklin Roosevelt was running for a fourth term in 1944 against Thomas Dewey. There were claims by the Republicans that Roosevelt had abused office by dispatching a destroyer to retrieve his dog in Alaska. Roosevelt made a few classic remarks at a Washington black tie dinner. He rose and said, Republican leaders have not been content with attacks on me or my wife or my sons. No, not content with that, they now include my little dog, Fala. Well, of course, I don t resent attacks, and my family doesn t resent attacks, but Fala does resent them.
