The Book Of Sand, By Jorge Luis Borges
In The Book of Sand by Jorge Luis Borges, the idea that time and life as a whole are endless and
unreasonable yet are limited and full of meaning at the same time. In this house are several
English bibles, including the first John Wyclif s. I also have Cipriano de Valera s, Luther s
which, from a literary viewpoint, is the worst and a Latin copy of Vulgate. This quotes shows that
the narrator displays that he owns over 9 different bibles including rare ones. The knowledge he
usually collects is all religious and is all found in the bibleso it is arguably all Christian. I realized
that the book was monstrous. What good did it do to me to think I, who looked upon the volume
with my eyes, who held it in my hands, was any less monstrous?

Disillusionment In The Jungle
In the politically righteous book, The Jungle by Upton Sinclair, a newly wed s feeling of innocence
and happiness after their beautiful wedding in their homeland come to an end following the reality
of discovering their new life in America. The notion comes from the disillusionment of American
freedom and the twisted advertisement of a capitalist system. America was systematically built to
be corrupt and dehumanized the significance of individual existence. This was done by easily
replacing, deceiving and exploiting people for the self interest of the wealthy.
The Jungle depicts the exploitation of immigrant lives in Packingtown, a town near Chicago. The
small industrialized town is filled with oppressing poverty, dangerous and ... Show more content on

He becomes a tireless advocate for socialism and gets a job as a porter in a socialist run hotel.
People s lives matter more than the meat and food industry. The world does not revolve around
taking advantage of the poor working class and treating them like active robots. Humans are living,
not inanimate.
Humans are the equivalent to animals in the meat industry for the purpose of profit. Jurgis tours the
slaughterhouse. He describes the detachment in the work environment with the slaughtering and
packaging of hogs. The hogs are not treated kindly or even thought of as animals just as sales.
There was a long line of hogs, being simultaneously swung up and then another, and another
squealing] and lifeblood ebbing away together. (Sinclair 39) There is an orderly way to set up the
slaughterhouse to distract the poor immigrants of the American lifestyle. The worker wants to give
more to their family and add to their financial status even if it means being away from their home
country. Businesses take advantage of workers valuing their work ethic more than the idea of
being miserable at work so it is done continuously with no remorse. This social construct was built
and implied because no one could protest against a life that helps them survive in the America s
capitalism. People and animals are

Smallpox Vaccine Advantages And Disadvantages Essay
Smallpox was a serious and extremely contagious disease which left three out of ten of its victims
dead. Those who survived were permanently scarred and sometimes blinded. In 1977, however,
smallpox was defeated and eradicated. The disease which once killed so many people now exists
only in laboratories. This was accomplished by widespread vaccination(What is Smallpox?).
Contrary to recent controversy, the benefits of vaccines far outweigh the disadvantages. Vaccines
have been proven effective tools for disease prevention and should continue to be used.
A vaccine is a weak or inactive form of a pathogen (something that causes disease). When the
vaccine is injected into a person, it stimulates the production of antibodies to destroy the vaccine.

You are more likely to be struck by lightning than to have a serious allergic reaction to a vaccine.
The chance of intussusception is 1/20,000 (Potential Side Effects of Vaccines).
Vaccines can also have dangerous ingredients. Aluminum, for example, is found in some vaccines,
and can, in excess, cause serious neurological harm. Formaldehyde, a carcinogen, is also found in
some vaccines. These potentially dangerous ingredients are, however, present in such small
quantities in vaccines that they are harmless.
It is also speculated that the MMR (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella) vaccine causes autism.
However, numerous studies have shown that there is no correlation between the MMR vaccine
and autism. Even when studying children already at a high risk for autism, vaccination did not
increase the risk (Anjali et al.,). Vaccines are extensively and carefully tested before being released
to the public. Even after being released, vaccines are carefully monitored for any dangerous side
effects (Ensuring Vaccine

My Experience In Life And Different Experiences In My Life
All of us have a story to tell. Something that separates us from others. We may have similar
experiences, but what makes us different is how we handle them. In my life I have cherished
memories, hopes for my future, and heartaches that may never leave. Life can get complicated, but
it s all about figuring out who you are and who you want to be.
I would say I had a pretty good childhood. It was filled with good memories, great laughs, and lots
of fun. When I was 3, my parents divorced, but I can t really remember them ever being together
so it s never been an issue. At my mom s house I always spent a lot of time at my grandma s house
playing with my cousins. It was like having a bunch of brothers and sisters. We still have great
relationships between each other, even now in high school. On my dad s side, his family lives in
California so I don t get to see them as much, but the friends we hang out with are practically
family. Our neighbors have three kids from the ages 1 6. I consider them as three more siblings
pretty much. It s very warm and comfortable just like at my mom s. As for my school life, from
1st grade to 6th grade I went to the Catholic school here in Thorp. I had some pretty good years
there. Because there were only about 10 of us, it felt like another little family. In 7th grade is
when I transferred to the Public school. I think because I d gotten used to being in smaller groups,
coming to the Public school was a big deal with the class sizes being larger.

Sata Commands
Some Stata Commands Last modified: January 2, 2006 9:51AM General Plotting Commands 1.
Plot a histogram of a variable: histogram vname 2. Plot a histogram of a variable using frequencies:
histogram vname, freq histogram vname, bin(xx) norm where xx is the number of bins. 3. Plot a
boxplot of a variable: graph box vname 4. Plot side by side box plots for one variable (vone) by
categories of another variable vtwo. (vtwo should be categorical)): graph box vone, over(vtwo)

Identify points with largest and smallest residuals: sort residuals list in 1/5 list in 5/l (The last
command is minus 5 / lowercase letter L .) 7. Compute multiple regression equation (vy is
response, vthree, vtwo, and vvthree are explanatory variables): regress vy vone vtwo vthree
Important Notes on the stem command In some versions of Stata, there is a potential glitch with
Stata s stem command for stem and leaf plots. The stem function seems to permanently reorder
the data so that they are sorted according to the variable that the stem and leaf plot was plotted
for. The best way to avoid this problem is to avoid doing any stem and leaf plots (do histograms
instead). However, if you really want to do a stem and leaf plot you should always create a
variable containing the original observation numbers (called index, for example). A command to
do so is: generate index = _n If you do this, then you can re sort the data after the stem and leaf
plot according to the index variable: sort index. Then, the data are back in the original order.
Summary of These and Other Commands Here is a list of the commands demonstrated above and
some other commands that you may find useful (this is by no means an exhaustive list of all Stata
commands): anova| general ANOVA, ANCOVA, or regression| by| repeat operation for categories
of a variable| ci| confidence intervals

Literary Analysis Of Blackberry Picking, By Seamus Heaney
In life, people experience loss. Loss of a friend, a family member, or a significant other. Even
though we don t always recognize it, death is inevitable. The loss that people experience may
influence how they remember things and see the world. Seamus Heaney uses the speaker in the
poem to show one way of dealing with death is to acceptit. The nostalgic views of the speaker in
the poem shows the speakers remembrance of picking the blackberries and even though the berries
would rot too soon, the good memories of picking the berries would always outweigh the bad of
them rotting. In Blackberry Picking , Seamus Heaney utilizes colorfully yet contrasting imagery,
diction and structure to suggest that death is inevitable and loss isn t always the easiest thing to
accept, but sometimes, that is the best way to handle it.
First, The contrasting imagery of the poem represents life and death. At first, just one, a glossy
purple clot among others, red, green, hard as a knot. the speaker uses the ripeness of a berry to
represent a life. The red and green berries description of the bessies suggest they are not ready
yet. I interpreted the berries to also represent the end of a pregnancy, where the mother is almost
ready to give birth, but not quite yet. The glossy purple clot represents the berry finally being
ready to be picked. This could also represent the actual birth of the baby. Later in the poem Heaney
describes the berries having A rat grey fungus (19) and later describes the berries saying that The
fruit fermented, the sweet flesh would turn sour. (21) I interpreted this imagery as representing
death. As people get older, their hair often turns gray. Also, the fruit fermenting may represent
the actual final death as the fruit rots and no longer lives. The contrasting imagery of the
beginning and end of the very may very well represent the life and death of a person. As we go
through life we begin as new, small, and tiny. When we age, we often become wrinkled and the
aging shows not only with skin, but as well as the hair as stated before. As we grow older our
interpretation of the world goes from pretty bright colors to dull, boring ones. Heaney s use of the
imagery shows the audience that good things

To A Daughter Leaving Home By Mrs. Pastan
The title of the poem is To a Daughter leaving Home it tells you a lot of what the poem is talking
about. I decided to use this poem because my parents are both going through what this mother is
going through, graduating college and soon starting my life in the military. Mrs. Pastan wrote this
poem describing a parents emotional state as her daughter goes away. In the poem the stanzas all
have different meanings but three caught my eye. The first one was the moment as she ran along
side her daughter teaching her to ride a bike, which symbolizes how the speaker has raised her
daughter and was with her through all the wobbles in her life. The second one is the daughter rides
further and further away on the bike, the speaker is growing more

Oral Communication Reflection
Back on Tuesday, September 19, I (along with the rest of the class,) gave my first speech in Oral
Communication Class. It was our first speech assigned/presented in class, and its topic, Self
Introduction. Some people may find it challenging, but I see it as a very simple subject to talk
about. Who knows more about you than yourself? No one! So why do people find it so hard to
talk about? I had a funny feeling that the day the order of our speeches were assigned that I d be
the first person to give their speech. Sure enough, I was the first person to give their speech. I m
genuinely glad that I was first because I was able to get it out of the way and not have to stress
on it. Giving a speech in front of my peers is nowhere near as nerve racking or terrifying as I
thought it would be, but upon giving my speech, I would like to reflect on how I felt the day of
my speech (in terms of confidence levels,) some verbal and delivery skills which I used well/not
as well, some improvements that could of been put in place for my speech, and who in the class
I believe gave the best speech among us all. First off, how I felt on the day of our first speech. I
m not going to say that I was 100% confident in myself and not nervous at all, because that s
simply not true, but all in all I felt pretty good and I wasn t really that nervous. Since I m used to
speaking in front of people, I wasn t nervous about talking in front of my peers but forgetting
what I m talking about in my speech since I m used to memorizing and not just speaking out in
front of people. The only thing I could think of which I could do to make me less nervous than
what I was on the day of my speech would be to go practice more in front of people who aren t my
friends. Otherwise, I believe I used my skill of performing in theatre and transposed it into my
speech so I wouldn t be nervous upon giving my speech. In speaking of skills, the next topic I d
like to address is some skills which I used well/not so well. Some verbal skills I believe I used well
(in the content) would be connecting to the audience with funny little examples of a side topic I
was talking about. An example of this would be when I said as red head, I could either be Peter
Pan at

The Great Gatsby And 1984 Analysis
Karl Marx s theory of Marxism suggest that the authority of the bourgeoisie comes from their
control over the means of production in. In order to perpetuate their wealth and disguise their
corrupt interior, they must oppress and exploit the proletariat through false consciousness. Both
Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby and George Orwell s 1984 establishes societies that explores
the Capitalismand Totalitarianism. George Orwell does that by setting 1984 in a futuristic
totalitarian regime where the proletariat is under absolute control by the Party in order to
eternalize their power over its citizens. Fitzgerald, in The Great Gatsby, describes the false
consciousness imposed on the lower class of New York during the Jazz Age of the

Although liquor is prohibited for production except for medical usage, alcoholic beverages are
still readily accessible. During Myrtle Wilson s party, Nick Carraway describes that The bottle of
whiskey a second one was now in constant demand by all present (Fitzgerald, 36). The presence of
illegal alcohol at the corners of every street signify the limited control the American government has
over the actions of its citizens. In other words, the citizens of The Great Gatsby are free to challenge
the authorities who enforce the laws. In addition to the strict surveillance used to control the state
of Oceania, the Party induces fear into its citizens to dominate them mentally. After committing
thoughtcrime by expressing his dissatisfaction with the Party in a forbidden diary, Winston
expresses his terror for capture when he says that [the] patrols did not matter, however. Only the
Thought Police mattered (Orwell, 4). Like Winston, citizens in Oceania are mentally crippled by
the rumors about the Thought Police s ruthlessness. The mysterious nature of the organization
prevents the exercise of individuality freedom and choice by suppressing and crippling any free
thinking. Not only does the Party control the people physically with constant surveillance, they also
attempt to take utter control over their mental state. In contrast, even law enforcers of the Roaring
Twenties lack a sense of morality and justice. When Gatsby was caught speeding by a

Homeless In San Francisco
Homeless in San Francisco San Francisco has a large population of homeless people. San
Francisco is the 13th most populated city and is the eighth worst city homeless rate with
estimated 7,000 homeless in 2015. There are many factors that can result in the high number of
homeless people. One of the most common reasons why is they could not get a job and they just
decided to give up so they don t have enough money to do anything. I think there is a lot of
homeless because we live in a competitive world and there is bigger demand on jobs than there is
supply of it. It is also in San Francisco where the Super Bowl is held once a year. The Super Bowl

Garfield the Great Throughout American, history, we ve had some interesting presidents. All of

Running against the famous Ulysses S. Grant, he would have to convince voters that he was the
better candidate over the Civil War s most famous general, and he somehow managed to do
exactly that. The twentieth president was 49 years old, which doesn t seem that old for a

Metaphors In Domestic Birds
Another animal commonly kept as a pet is the bird. Common species of domestic birds include the
muniya canary and the parakeet. Like the previous pet names analyzed, these bird metaphors also
concentrate the senses of small size, youth, domesticity and entertainment. In Hindi Urdu, the very
word bird is defined as a girl or a young woman(Webster). The metaphor is usually charged with
affective connotations, being commonly used as a term of endearment. This positive evaluation
appears to have its roots in the amorous disposition of the animalas well as in the folk tradition that
associates birds with symbols of love (cf Talebinejad Dastejerdi, 2005). In fact, the state of being in
love of a couple is metaphorically instantiated by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The repertoire of metaphors designating women as pets reveals a clear imbalance in favor of terms
of abuse. Indeed, with the exception of pet, bird and in certain contexts billi (kitten), all the
aforementioned metaphors analyzed convey negative evaluations. Moreover, interestingly, even
within the favorable animal terms, only kitten/gatita is restricted to females, since bird and pet are
ambisexual in nature.
In the conceptualization of women as pets, youth and small size appear to play a determinant role
in the encoding of the metaphor, implying immaturity (the lack of age involves inexperience) and
helplessness (unlike other animals, pets need to be looked after by people). Furthermore, the
physical surroundings of pets, whose whole life spins around the house, might imply the idea of
domesticity. This confinement to the domestic arena is particularly remarkable in the case of bird
names, since birds are kept in

History And Implementation Of Teacher Supervision And...
The History and Implementation of Teacher Supervision and Evaluation Hoskins (1987) advocated
that the process of teacher evaluation is multilayered and is affected by several complex and
continually changing variables. The evaluation of teachers classroom performance has evolved
tremendously over the last 100 years. Teacher evaluation has transformed along with emerging
research pertaining to the role of teachers, effective teaching, and theories of student learning (Ellett
Teddlie, 2003). Regardless of the changes and increased emphasis on national and state standards,
supervision and evaluation continue to be average at best and inadequate in assisting teachers to

These supervisors had nearly unrestricted authority to create criteria for effective teaching and to
hire and fire teachers (Burke Krey, 2005). The focus of teacher supervision and evaluation in the
early years of the United States and abroad consisted of irregular reviews of teacher s work
through direct observation by a traveling supervisor (Shinkfield Stufflebeam, 1995; Blumberg,
1985). Teacher supervision models date back to the 1840s, when common schools were spreading
across the United States. Laypeople supervised the schools while young unqualified teachers
educated students (Wirt Kirst, 2005). The only requirements for being a schoolmaster were the
ability to read and write and the physical strength or personal charm to manage even the largest
intransigent farm boy (Troen Boles, 2003). Circuit superintendents would journey to schools with
the intent of evaluating teachers and awarding teacher licenses (Blumberg, 1985). In the 1890s,
supervision was considered as an inspection to guarantee that curriculum was being followed and
that students were learning (Robinson, 2009). Local governments particularly in urban areas
exercised firm control over schools (Wirt Kirst, 2005). Ward politics within those systems viewed
teaching positions as spoils that belonged to the political party that won the election (Wirt Kirst,
2005). The mindset of the people was that through political

Essay On Social Injustice
Social justice has changed lives through consistent group organization, consistent preparation, and
with the creation of a strong foundation and leaders. Social justice is the idealization that society
gives groups or individuals from a variety of different backgrounds and representations the right to
equally share benefits such as opportunities and resources along with being treated fairly by others
from all backgrounds and statuses (Chung Bemak, 2011). As a society, we hear less about social
justiceand maximize on social injustice as a whole. Social injustice in the court system with fathers
seeking additional parenting time with their child(ren) and reduction in child support expenses has
increased in the past couple of years. These... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Such social inequities are not new, in fact, for a long time oppression, discrimination and more has
built blockages for individuals who are not socially accepted (Chung Bemak, 2011). As social
injustice spreads into the light so does the relationship between power and social justice (Chung
Bemak, 2011). Practitioners and advocates spread their awareness on how such power can feed into
social injustice.
Correlation between Power and Social Justice
People who hold a position of power, such as Judges in the family court system have and can
continue to perpetuate social injustice (Chung Bemak, 2011). Such perpetuator of social injustice
can be unintentionally or intentional due to the lack of awareness of certain groups such as single
fathers, fathers who struggle with mental illness, fathers who are gay and more (Chung Bemak,
2011). Judges in the family court system hold a great deal of power, such power has destroyed
relationships with children and families due to Judges lacking awareness on the importance of
fatherhood. Chung Bemak (2011) has expressed that people who hold positions in power and
privilege, such as Judges, have and may continue to disregard people who are less powerful, such as
fathers. At times, disregarding social groups can contribute to unfair treatment which can result in
oppression (Chung Bemak, 2011). Chung and Bemak background and education assists them in

The study finds and concludes that performance of rural banks in India has significantly improved
after amalgamation process which has been initiated by the Government of India.
I. Introduction
Banks play an important role in mobilization and allocation of resources in any country. Rural
people in India are facing problems in the inadequate supply of credit. The major source of credit
to rural households, particularly low income working households, has been the informal sector.
Informal sector advances loans at very high rates of interest; the terms and conditions attached to
such loans have given rise to an elaborate structure of intimidation of both economic and non
economic conditions in rural population in India. RRBs were established in India in 1975
essentially for the purpose of taking banking service to the doorsteps of rural people, particularly in
places without banking facilities.
The objectives as given in the preamble of RRBs Act of 1976 were to develop the rural economy in
providing for the purpose of development of agriculture, trade commerce, industry and other
productive activities n the rural areas, credit and other facilities particularly to the small and
marginal farmers, agricultural labourers, artisans and small entrepreneurs and for matter connected
therewith and incidental thereto

Sports Communications
Sports connect with people in a very direct and personal way. The sport world stays connected by
using social media. Staying connected through social media allows the consumer to communicate
with an organization in a more direct way (Newman et al., 2013). A major regional sporting
network is Root Sports, which is a network that provides news for fans, teams, sponsors, etc. A
member of the networking team is Jen Mueller, a reporter for live sporting events, an anchor and a
producer for magazine shows in Seattle, WA (Root Sports, 2016).
After high school Mueller spent her time volunteering and working in the sports field. She worked
for the athletic department, newspaper, broadcast station and also coached swimming. Mueller

Family Story And Origin Of A New Environment
Every family story and origin is unique to the members of the immediate group, while including
the traditions passed from generation to generation. From the scent of their house and clothes,
special holidays, vacation spots, memories, what they eat and how it is served; all of these
elements of life are distinct to a family. These elements are incorporated into what is viewed as
normal life in a way that we don t see how our lives differ from those around us, until we are faced
with a situation where things are done differently than us. Many families contain multi cultural
backgrounds, therefore providing generations with traditions that include folklore from different
origins. One of the biggest elements of culture how dishes are served and prepared. If you ever
travel, one of the biggest attractions to a new environment is the foodthat is served in that area.
Some food traditions are difficult to explain and don t make sense to outsiders, but to the family
or local group it is a sense of definition and unity through foodways. In Louisiana especially, with
Cajun culture, we see many festivals and events that are food based, and the pride in the locals
that serve it. My family, all born and raised in the South, participate in the spicy food, crawfish
boils, jambalaya sales, gumbocooking events that this culture offers. From a young age I can

Explaining Fast Fashion
How fast fashion is affecting the environment is a very serious topic since this type of
consumerism in the United States is heavy on supply and demand, and because of that shoppers
want it all and want it now which is basically fast fashions motto. The way to make these pieces
of clothing heavily rely on cheap materials that can be made quickly, so that is polyester and
cotton being made in big factories that emit out toxins into our earth. Cotton being one of the
most used fabrics takes a lot to be made into a single garment. Uzbekistan which is the 6th
biggest producer of cotton had faced many conflicts during production since cotton uses so much
water to be made it has dried up the 4th largest lake the Aral Sea because of how much we need to
produce cotton fashion. (Prospectjournalucsd) Buying these cheap garments that become
unwearable after 5 times (Forbes) of wearing it usually gets thrown out after and producing more
waste that gets put into our waterways since theses garments shed easy and through washing them
can find their way into oceans and on the shores everywhere. (Sweeny) So with the help of
shoppers, being able to cut down on the purchase of fast fashion can help aid in keeping the
ecosystem in order.
Benefits of Not Buying Fast Fashion
A benefit of not buying fast fashion would be becoming more aware of what how shoppers affect
the earth and taking that into

Poetic Devices In The Raven
The poem I decided to explicate was The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe. The reason I chose this poem
is because I love Edgar Allen Poe s writings. I have always loved reading his dark and twisted
poems, even when I was younger in middle school his poems always got my attention the most. I
had never read The Ravenuntil now, but I am familiar with some of his others like The Tell Tale
Heart. I did really enjoy reading The Raven , the actual raven was a little creepy, but I also like
to read poems with elements like that. In the first stanza there are two types of poetic devices
used, one of them is the use of alliteration which is found very prominent throughout the entire
poem. Some uses of alliteration that are found in the first stanza are while I pondered, weak and
weary or while I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,/ as of some one gently
rapping, rapping at my chamber door. The whole first stanza is pretty much an example
alliteration because of how every word starts with the same letter or sounds closely alike. Then
the second type of poetic device used was the use of foreshadowing. Poe uses foreshadowing
when says there is a visitor tapping on his door as if something bad is going to happen. In the
second stanza Poe still uses alliteration, though not as strongly as in the first stanza. Some
examples of alliteration used in the second stanza were found in the lines, Eagerly I wished the
morrow; vainly I had sought to borrow from my books

Sleepless In Seattle Plot Analysis
Theme The theme of a movie is an idea, issue, or concept that a writer wants to express through a
story; a message or meaning that the audience is meant to take away from a movie.
(Goodykoontz Jacobs, 2014) The theme of Sleepless in Seattle is best stated by Tom Hanks in the
beginning of the film, and I ll grow a new heart. (Arch, 1992) Can true lovehappen for the second
time? The theme of this movie is about answering this question. Will Sam find love again?
Acting Style When you think of acting style in movies, you are looking for how the actors/actresses
represent the characters for the story. Tom Hanksis such a multitalented actor, but in Sleepless in
Seattle, he expertly plays a heartbroken widower and the father of Jonah. Meg Ryan is the
ultimate hopeless romantic and plays her role as Annie to perfection. Bill Pullman is wonderful
in his role as a skilled business professional, who is Annie s fiancГ©, Walter. Sam is Mr.
Sleepless in Seattle. Annie has overwhelming compassion for Jonah and Sam after hearing their
story on the radio station. Maybe Annie felt sorry for Jonah after hearing him asking for a new
wife for his dad, or maybe it was just magic and fate that made her fall in love with Sam before
even meeting him. Walter is calm and understanding when his engagement to Annie ends because
Annie says she just has to meet Sleepless in Seattle
(Walter Sleepless in Seattle, n.d.) (Sleepless in Seattle, n.d.)

The Gonorrhea Disease
Gonorrhea, one of the fastest growing STDs with almost 400,000 new cases per year in the U.S., is
a common bacterial illness that is transmitted sexually and perinatally (CDC, 2016). The disease
primarily affects the mucous membranes of the lower genital tract, but can also reach the rectum,
oropharynx, and the conjunctivae (Tan et al., 2008). Mucous membranes, rich in mucous glands,
line body passages and cavities, and within men, this includes the urethra, while within women, it

there is no way to fully prepare for gonorrhea besides being careful, but scientists are working on
a vaccine that the population could take at a young age to build a defense against the bacteria

its own antigens, making it difficult for one antibiotic to target and destroy all types of the bacteria

Life Experiences In Ernest Hemingway s The Sun Also Rises
Through life experiences, we grow evolve and are slowly molded into the person that we become.
Through love and heartbreak, we re shaped and affected in our thoughts and in the words that we
put on paper. Ernest Hemingway encountered some of these experiences throughout his life, and
those experiences affected the stories that he wrote, specifically The Sun Also Rises. Hemingway
drew from his life experiences and whether or not those experiences helped him write the
personalities of his characters. Ernest Hemingwayhad relationship struggles that affected how he
wrote the characters in The Sun Also Rises. There were many divorces throughout Hemingway s
life which depicted how he wrote the personalities and life choices of his characters, specifically
the main character Jake Barnes. According to John Aldridge, Hemingway wrote his characters with
a specific code that helped them survive a cruel and brutal world and considered loveweak and
dangerous (Pidgeon). Jake Barnes in The Sun Also Rises, was a man madly in love with a
woman named Brett whom he could not have. Brett would refuse Jakes love because of their
history (Hemingway). Brett herself had lost her true love due to dysentery ( A Memory ). Robert
Cohn, a close friend of Jake s, was also a character written with relationship struggles. He married
a woman he wasn t in love with, divorced her for a woman named Frances, and then fell in love
with another woman behind Frances s back which resulted in her leaving him.

Detain from Rubbing Your Eyes Frequently Try not to rub your eyes as rubbing will abbreviate
the life of the glue used in the extention which may pull off your characteristic lashes. Rubbing
might also haul out your natural lashes. Also if you are wiping your face with towel take extra
care and instead of rubbing simply pat dry or blotch your face. Shut eyes then permit the
expansions to dry normally. Try not to attempt to dry them with the towel or hair dryer. 4.Avoid
Exercise As mentioned earlier try not to get your expansions wet for 24 to max 48 hours after
using, it is advisable to abstain from working out, and also from steam rooms as sweat or any kind
of dampness will reactivate the glue used and might bring about the lashes to stick together. Thus it
is very important that you make sure no moisture or dampness get onto your lashes. 5.No Curlers

Federal Bureau Investigation
Have you ever wondered who helped keep our country safe? It is the Federal Bureau Investigation.
Federal Bureau Investigation, is also known as the FBI. The FBI is an investigating team. The FBI
has history, investigating, and has numerous facts.
To begin, the FBI has rich history and background. The FBI was created by Attorney General
Charles Bonaparte. It was created in the year of 1908. The FBI has been up and running for
about 107 years. By 1907 the Department of Justice most frequently called upon Secret Services
to conduct investigations. It was 1892 when law enforcement was often political rather than
professional. The FBI states, The FBI originated from a force of special agents created in 1908
by Attorney General Charles Bonaparte during the presidency of Theodore Roosevelt . There is
much more I could talk about. The FBI has been running for about 107 years which means they
have a lot of papers.
In addition , they also have to investigate. When the FBI arrive to a crime scene, they first look to
see if they can see the weapons. Finding the weapon is a crucial step to finding the killer. A gun
leaves the same unique patterns of marks on every bullet it fires. If the crime scene is by a river
then police divers search for missing weapons at the bottom of river, lakes, and ponds. There may,
however, be more than one crime scene. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the nineteenth century, municipal and state governments shouldered the responsibility of law

Analysis Of Esters Lab Report
PREPARING ESTERS
INTRODUCTION
An ester is an organic compound where the hydrogen in the compound s carboxyl group is
replaced with a hydrocarbon group. Esters are derived from carboxylic acids and (usually) an
alcohol (Helmensine A, 2017). The reaction required to produce an esteris called esterification.
Esterification is the reaction in which a Carboxylic acid combines with an alcohol in the presence
of a catalyst (commonly concentrated sulphuric acid) to form an ester (Esterification, 2017). This
is an example of a general class of reactions called condensations.
Esters are common in our everyday lives. Esters are colourless, volatile liquids with pleasant
aromas and create the fragrances and flavours of many flowers and fruits (Organic Chemistry Life,
2013).
Esters are also excellent solvents for organic compounds. Sunburns lotions, nail polish removers,
plasticisers and glues use esters as solvents (Veerenda, 2017).
The aim of this experiment was to investigate different reactions between a range of alcohols and
carboxylic acids to produce a variety of esters of different odours and discover how they can be
used commercially in household products. MATERIALS METHODS
The experiment was divided into three parts. Firstly, to record the aroma of each alcohol and
carboxylic acid that would be used in the experiment. Secondly, to prepare five different esters and
record the results. Finally, reporting the balanced equations for each of the

Hospice Care Thesis
Thesis Palliative/Hospice Care: Necessity or Extension of Healthcare: a topic chosen to obtain
clarity of services, while questioning who is benefiting, patients or the healthcare system.
I.Introduction: The Historical Roots of Hospice
In the 8th century, B.C. the Homeric times, all Greeks without exception were regarded as being
under the protection of Zeus Xenios, the god of strangers and supplicants. A wanderer would be
treated as a guest and offered food, shelter, clothing, and gifts. Violation of the duties of

The medical regime, health care organizations and the public are aware of these end of life issues,
therefore must prioritize it s needs. The American Medical Association and the Institute of
Medicine foundation has devoted millions of dollars to public education on this issue through the
Last Acts initiative. (Forman and Kitzes, et al 2003).
This is one reason so many patients enter hospice only in the last days of life. A more reasonable
approach would be to have a patient begin Palliative/Hospice care while receiving curative care.
The Center for Medicare Medicaid Services (CMS) is about to embark on a project to evaluate
whether providing hospice services earlier in an illness along with curative care, improves quality
of life for patients while reducing Medicare spending.
If Palliative/Hospice care were to be provided soon after a terminal diagnosis, there would be
more hospice care would be more timely. About a third of hospice patients die within seven days
of admission to a Palliative/Hospice program. This short length of stay compromises the quality of
care that hospice offers.

Persuasive Essay On Chocolate
Chocolate one of the only things in the world that can be as addictive as a drug but not affect our

about where I could have possibly come from, or even looking past the chocolate itself, what about

Ferrero Rocheris one of the biggest Chocolatiers in the world, it s websites provides an abundance

To begin, Ferrero Rocher is known to be one of the most equisite european chocolatiers in the

The War Plan For South Korea
North and South Korea, which have technically been at war for the last 65 years, are again acting
like it. (npr.org) They ve always been fighting each other, and this is another one of their battles. It
all started when there was an explosive from landmines in the DMZ, which is the sort of de facto
border that separates North and South Korea, which injured two South Korean soldiers that the
South has blamed on North Koreabut, of course, North Korea has not apologized for. (npr.org) That
angered South Korea which lead them to start anti North propaganda broadcasting through
loudspeakers. Consequently, both sides have been arguing at the DMZ. Then, everything was
settled when both sides made an agreement; however, no one really knows what Kim Jong Un will
do. As a result, the United Statesare hesitant, so the top U.S. commanders reviewed the U.S. war
plan for defending South Korea in case there was a sudden indication that North Korea was
going to begin a war. (cnn.com) They are on the watch for movement for activation of air
defences and artilleries. Currently, South Korea is low on missionary materials to fight North
Korea, so South Korea is going to need the U.S. s help. North Korea has half a million more
armed forces, 10,000 more artillery pieces, a thousand more tanks, and etc. This can be very
dangerous for South Korea if North attacks. It can also be dangerous if U.S. helps South Korea
meaning North Korea can attack U.S. Immigration has

How Did Friedman Who Wrote The Bible Review
Who Wrote the Bible Review For many, the Hebrew bible is read and accepted without question.
It plays a significant role in the practice of many religions and yet not many dare to wonder who
wrote such sacred writings that would still be read to this very day. For generations, it was almost
unheard of to ask or even fathom the identity of the author. Richard Elliot Friedman, a biblical
scholar and graduate from Harvard University, explores, studies, and analyzes the bibleto discover
who wrote it. Having earned a master degree in theology, B.A degree in Philosophy, and master
degree in Hebrew literature, Friedman proves to be a knowledgeable expert in his field of studies.
From the years of work he invested into, Friedman aims to provide convincing evidence that the
book is written by four persons through historical, archaeological, logical proof. Friedman s
structure to prove that source J and E were written by different authors was jointed together because
they complimented each other in their differences. Friedman believes that source J was written by a
man in the southern kingdom of Judahbetween the time of 848 B.C and 722 B.C while the author
of source E was written in the northern kingdom of Israelbetween 922 B.C. and 722 B.C. The
narration of the stories and the time period it was written in was used to support this idea. One of
the stories he used was the story of the twins. In the story, the younger brother, Jacob, gets his father

Hiroshima Bombing Essay
Hiroshima and Nagasaki Bombing
The United States of America became the first and the only realm to use the atomic bomb
weaponry during the war. The event happened when the nation dropped the atomic bomb on the
city of Hiroshima in japan. Although the nation had their intentions on dropping the weapon, it
brought a lot of negative impacts both to Japan and to America. Over seventy years later the
bombing impact is still very significant not only to the affected nation, but also to world history on
war. Although the atomic bombing of Hiroshima brought an end to World War II, it is argued that
it started a cold war between the two nations.
The United States was developing atomic weapons from the year 1940 even after being warned
by Albert Einstein on the research on nuclear weapons by Nazi Germany. By the time the United
States tested its first atomic bombing Mexico in July 1945, Germany had already been defeated.
However, the war against Japan in the pacific was increasingly becoming furious. The then
American president Harry S. Truman had been warned by some of his advisers on the casualties
that would befall America if they went ahead with the bombing. However, the president ordered for
the use of the new weapon in an attempt to end the war.
On the 6th of August 1945, a five ton bomb was dropped on Hiroshima city in japan. The very
powerful blast brought down a four square miles of the city reducing it to ruins. Over 80,000
people were killed on the spot and a lot more died

For My Comfort Zone Activity I Chose To Visit A Local Fantasy
For my comfort zone activity I chose to visit a local fantasy and fetish store here in Philadelphia
called the Kink Shoppe. I am quite a shy, hesitant person in general so you can only imagine
what it is like for me engaging in sexual activity. Most people generalize college kids and sex but
that is not the case for me. Personally, I have been in a committed relationship for two years now
and we are sexually active but very basic in terms of being erotic. A better way to state it is the
penis inserted in the vagina while thrusting the hips with occasional oral stimulation. Growing up
in a reserved family that did not openly discuss anything sexual is also a factor I blame for my
bashfulness. The main reason I chose to visit the Kink... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The day finally came and I ventured to the Kink Shoppe. The store did have all the items I
pictured being there along with many other pieces of equipment that are used for the stimulation
and arousal of people during sex. Dog collars, black leather masks that resemble a dog s head,
and sharp metal doctor tools were the first three items I noticed and wondered to myself about
how they were used during sexual play and activity. After taking awhile awkwardly browsing
around by myself trying to be casual, I finally worked up the nerve to ask the worker various
questions about the toys and tools. My face turning a bright shade of red is probably when the
worker realized I felt very uncomfortable asking. She gladly answered and explained everything
to me and made me feel more comfortable about being curious. In class, we briefly discussed
BDSM which the worker talked about greatly while explaining the leather collars, leashes,
whips, and masks. I touched a great amount of different types of dildos made from various
materials such as glass, silicone, and rubber. The worker explained each one and who usually
prefers which type based on their personal preferences and overall goal of the toy. Some vibrated,
some were simple penis shapes. Touching fake penis at first made me feel like I was being
unfaithful to my boyfriend. If I bought one, I feel as if it would degrade my boyfriend and make
him feel as if he is not satisfying me which is not the case. That is when I

Fumigufium Research Paper
Our world is giant but fragile. Fragile enough that we are able to greatly affect it. Our final
articles focus on the topic of pollution and how it degrades our society as well as the
environment. Fumigufium by John Evelyn begins by describing the terrible smoke and its affects
caused by the burning of coal in London. The city is transformed from one of beauty to disgust. It
was claimed you could barely distinguish someone from a crowd. People had developed persistent
coughs as well. It was obvious the pollutionfrom fossil fuels had produced negative affects.
Although, a fairly new energy source may now be harvested which burns cleaner than coal and oil.
It is natural gas. As seen in Fracking Nation, natural gas is an untapped resource which... Show

I believe the answer to this is no, but it is more complicated than it seems. We may not be able to
develop without degradation, but we may be able to limit degradation so that our effect becomes
negligible and the environment is healthy enough to replenish itself. In the case of Fumifugium,
the burning of wood rather than the burning of coal is seen as a cleaner solution since it emits
less pollutants than coal. Even though it would require massive amounts of wood and
deforstation, it was pointed out that trees could be replanted year by year replenishing the used
supply. This increase of trees planted could also benefit the little pollutants that are created by
burning the wood as trees are able to absorb CO2 from the atmosphere. Fracking Nation also
provided its own solution to minimizing the affect of the fracking problem by the use of liquefied
petroleum gas (LPG). LPG converts back into a gas underground which allows it to be almost
100% retrievable when being sucked back up with the natural gas from the reservoir. It s
retrievablity lowers the cost of filtering it back along with lowering the need for water and
decreasing the size of staging operations needed. It eliminates the need for pits for waste.
Furthermore, Restoring Rivers, describes how collaborative efforts and organization may promote
restoration projects. Through these efforts the goals of improving water quality, managing riparian
vegetation, enhancing in stream habitats, providing passages for fish, and stabilizing banks may be

Analysis Of Laura Mulvey s Film, Visual Pleasure And...
Katlyn Riggins
WGST 343: 500
Fall 2015
Topic Number 4
Women in film are often portrayed in a manner deemed pleasurable to the male viewer. Laura
Mulvey takes this concept and dissects it within her article Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema.
Mulvey references the term male gaze, wom[en] displayed as sexual object[s] is the leitmotif of
erotic spectacle: from pin ups to strip tease, from Ziegfeld to Busby Berkeley, she holds the look,
and plays to and signifies male desire (Mulvey 40). Because of this interpretation it is relevant to
examine different forms of media, such as films, to establish if the male gaze is present.
Furthermore, it is appropriate to analyze films directed by women to identify the male gaze, due to
their unique interpretation of female character s visual representation. In the essay that follows, it
will consider Girlfight and Dance, Girl, Dance to analyze how two separate female filmmakers,
Karyn Kusama and Dorothy Arzner respectfully, challenge the theory of the male gaze, along with
comparing and contrasting the methods in which such challenges were made, and finally it will
address how any filmmaker may object the male gaze.
Within the film Girlfight, director Karyn Kusama presents the audience with a strong female
protagonist. Actor Michelle Rodriguez debuts her career portraying the lead role of Diana and
gives the audience a unique interpretation of the character. We first see the heroine, through a crowd
of teenagers walking

Comparing God and AI in Neuromancer Essay
Parallels between God and AI in Neuromancer
The world of meat provides the base for much of what happens throughout William Gibson s novel
Neuromancer. The lives of characters are shaped by their flesh and blood experiences. The realm
of artificial intelligence (AI) is the base for all of the events that are central to the life of a
character. All events and lives are under control of the AI, and all things serve the AI s purpose.
The matrix serves to mash the two realms together, in times and places where AI cannot physically
control the meat. The relationship between these realms is a direct parallel to God s relationship
with man.
It is hard to disseminate exactly what Gibson wanted to portray in Neuromancer ... Show more

This grand scheme remains unknown to Case, and the rest of humanity for that matter, but its
existence is made known. This is indicative of the great meaning of life mystery that Christianity
seeks to understand and explain.
Case is not the sole representative of humanity. All men and women are; human nature and the
desires, needs, and demands thereof are thrown under the term meat. This word is symbolic
itself, being the physical makeup of humans and the source of human movement, as well as being
food for survival. Meat is humanity, then. The meat does all kinds of godless things, including
rampant and wanton drug use, casual, mindless sex, crime for crime s sake as a way of life, and
remaining ignorant to a higher power other than their own will. The portrayal of humanity as meat
makes it a polar opposite to the omnipotent, omnipresent AI. The meat is so far removed from god
that it no longer cares about searching for something greater, it only finds itself indulging
constantly in the senses. For the AI to carry out its purpose, for God to tend to His sheep, there
must be a medium.
The medium comes in the form of a salvific complex of fiber optic cable and ROM,

Inferences In The Songs Of Distant Earth
In the novel, The Songs of Distant Earth by Arthur C. Clarke, there are many details that
predictions and inferences can be derived from. One inferences that can be made is that the
character Moses Kaldor greatly misses his wife after he left her to depart from Earth. This can
be shown through his emotions and words when talking to the character Mirissa. Clarke writes,
Yet we never really believed that End would be in our time who could! And if anyone had ever
told me that I should leave Earth and everything I ve loved... A spasm of emotion crossed his face,
and Mirissa waited in sympathetic silences until he had regained his composure. (Clarke 149 150).
When he is recalling when he left Earth to Mirissa, he begins to get emotional and

The Roles Of Auditing And Assurance Services
Introduction
The role accounting firms played in the last financial crisis raised questions about the legitimacy of
auditing and assurance services. Auditors, who are considered independent and are supposed to
provide reliable information to financial statement users, played a major part in the financial
institutions crisis. The role of auditing is not to stop management from making poor business
decisions, but it is to make sure that those decisions are properly disclosed (Rapoport, 2010).
However, auditors failed to fulfill that role while auditing some of the largest financial institutions,
which led to a huge financial meltdown during the first decade of the 21st Century. As a result of
the financial crisis, questions regarding the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, it is important to assure a greater independence and objectivity that offset the cost of
switching. One example where auditors independence raised question is when the Ernest Young
auditors allowed Lehman Brothers to use the off balance sheet financing method to hide its
leverage. Ernest Young helped Lehman Brothers, a company they audited for many years, to
mislead investors about the company s financial position which eventually led to its collapse.
Audit Deficiencies
External auditors could have prevented the collapse of large financial institutions by being more
skeptical and exercising professional due care while servicing their clients. In many cases, auditors
failed to obtain sufficient evidence supporting key assumption of management asset valuations,
asset ownerships or the use of accounting estimates. Ernst Young failed to exercise professional due
care while auditing Lehman Brothers.
Lehman Brothers used Repo 105 transactions that a British law firm approved for them to make its
balance sheet look better and Ernst Young agreed to the accounting management applied to these
transactions without actually examining any of the Repo 105 transactions. According to Tracy
Coenen (2010), Ernst and Young didn t even check the impact of these transactions on Lehman
financial statements, whether they are material to their balance sheet and therefore did

Post-Civil War America and Policies
After the Civil War, which culminated in 1865, the government of United States needed to reunify
southern and northern states back together, and the only solution for that were reforms in South.
The new political developments began In 1863 when president Abraham Lincoln suggested Ten
Percent Plan which indicated that a southern state could be readmitted to the Union as soon as ten
percent of its voters asseverated the oath of allegiance to the Union. Lincoln ensured southerners
that government will protect their private property, but not their slaves. After Lincoln was
assassinated on April 14, 1865, the new President of United Statescontinued following his Ten
Percent Plan.
Also Lincoln proposed the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, promulgated that all persons held
as slaves within any State, or designated part of a State, the people whereof shall then be in
rebellion against United States, shall be then, thenceforward and forever free. Nevertheless,
Emancipation Proclamation did not end slavery in the states. Lincoln hoped to inspire all the slaves
in the Confederacy with the Proclamation. Especially to support the Union Cause and keep
European countries, in particular England and France, from politically giving the confession and
military aid to Confederacy.
Out of all the Era s in the in United States, Reconstruction was the one which consisted of many
values, leaders, and objectives. In 1864, two Radical Republicans, Senator of Ohio Benjamin Wade

The Agile Methodology ( Am ) For Software Development Essay
The Agile methodology (AM) for software development is an iterative system characterized by
cycles of development, testing, and stakeholder feedback. According to Ferreira and Cohen, the
Agile methodology has the following five characteristics (50): 1.Iterative development: Small
versions of the software are developed at regular intervals. 2.Continuous integration: Instead of
waiting until the end to make changes to code, code changes are integrated immediately and then
tested to ensure they work. 3.Collective ownership: Development teams are fluid as team members
take on different roles depending on need. They all own and are responsible for the system. 4.Test
driven design: Developers identify the testing required before beginning to write the code for the
system. 5.Feedback loop: In AM, there is a frequent feedback loop from stakeholders to ensure that
the software is on track with expectations throughout the process. Each loop in Agile development
is characterized by development of specific features, testing, stakeholder review, incorporation of
changes, and then on to the next cycle until completion. Comparison of the methods: Stakeholder
input: Both waterfall and Agile methodologies use stakeholder requirements in their process. In the
waterfall case study, the video game highlighted had a pre production stage where the requirements
were identified and analysis was done up front to develop the game conception. The design is
based on that early analysis and

In this house are several English bibles, including the first John Wyclif s. I also have Cipriano de Valera s, Luther s which, from a literary viewpoint, is the worst and a Latin copy of Vulgate. This quotes shows that the narrator displays that he owns over 9 different bibles including rare ones. The knowledge he usually collects is all religious and is all found in the bibleso it is arguably all Christian. I realized that the book was monstrous. Disillusionment In The Jungle In the politically righteous book, The Jungle by Upton Sinclair, a newly wed s feeling of innocence and happiness after their beautiful wedding in their homeland come to an end following the reality of discovering their new life in America. The notion comes from the disillusionment of American freedom and the twisted advertisement of a capitalist system. America was systematically built to be corrupt and dehumanized the significance of individual existence. This was done by easily replacing, deceiving and exploiting people for the self interest of the wealthy. The Jungle depicts the exploitation of immigrant lives in Packingtown, a town near Chicago. Humans are the equivalent to animals in the meat industry for the purpose of profit. Jurgis tours the slaughterhouse. • 5. Smallpox Vaccine Advantages And Disadvantages Essay Smallpox was a serious and extremely contagious disease which left three out of ten of its victims dead. Those who survived were permanently scarred and sometimes blinded. In 1977, however, smallpox was defeated and eradicated. The disease which once killed so many people now exists only in laboratories. This was accomplished by widespread vaccination(What is Smallpox?). Contrary to recent controversy, the benefits of vaccines far outweigh the disadvantages. Vaccines have been proven effective tools for disease prevention and should continue to be used. A vaccine is a weak or inactive form of a pathogen (something that causes disease). When the vaccine is injected into a person, it stimulates the production of antibodies to destroy the vaccine. It is also speculated that the MMR (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella) vaccine causes autism. However, numerous studies have shown that there is no correlation between the MMR vaccine and autism. • 6. My Experience In Life And Different Experiences In My Life All of us have a story to tell. Something that separates us from others. We may have similar experiences, but what makes us different is how we handle them. In my life I have cherished memories, hopes for my future, and heartaches that may never leave. Life can get complicated, but it s all about figuring out who you are and who you want to be. I would say I had a pretty good childhood. It was filled with good memories, great laughs, and lots of fun. When I was 3, my parents divorced, but I can t really remember them ever being together so it s never been an issue. At my mom s house I always spent a lot of time at my grandma s house playing with my cousins. It was like having a bunch of brothers and sisters. We still have great relationships between each other, even now in high school. On my dad s side, his family lives in California so I don t get to see them as much, but the friends we hang out with are practically family. Our neighbors have three kids from the ages 1 6. I consider them as three more siblings pretty much. It s very warm and comfortable just like at my mom s. As for my school life, from 1st grade to 6th grade I went to the Catholic school here in Thorp. I had some pretty good years there. Because there were only about 10 of us, it felt like another little family. In 7th grade is when I transferred to the Public school. I think because I d gotten used to being in smaller groups, coming to the Public school was a big deal with the class sizes being larger. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The stem function seems to permanently reorder the data so that they are sorted according to the variable that the stem and leaf plot was plotted for. The best way to avoid this problem is to avoid doing any stem and leaf plots (do histograms instead). However, if you really want to do a stem and leaf plot you should always create a variable containing the original observation numbers (called index, for example). A command to do so is: generate index = _n If you do this, then you can re sort the data after the stem and leaf plot according to the index variable: sort index. Then, the data are back in the original order. Summary of These and Other Commands Here is a list of the commands demonstrated above and some other commands that you may find useful (this is by no means an exhaustive list of all Stata commands): anova| general ANOVA, ANCOVA, or regression| by| repeat operation for categories of a variable| ci| confidence intervals ... • 8. Literary Analysis Of Blackberry Picking, By Seamus Heaney In life, people experience loss. Loss of a friend, a family member, or a significant other. Even though we don t always recognize it, death is inevitable. The loss that people experience may influence how they remember things and see the world. Seamus Heaney uses the speaker in the poem to show one way of dealing with death is to acceptit. The nostalgic views of the speaker in the poem shows the speakers remembrance of picking the blackberries and even though the berries would rot too soon, the good memories of picking the berries would always outweigh the bad of them rotting. In Blackberry Picking , Seamus Heaney utilizes colorfully yet contrasting imagery, diction and structure to suggest that death is inevitable and loss isn t always the easiest thing to accept, but sometimes, that is the best way to handle it. First, The contrasting imagery of the poem represents life and death. At first, just one, a glossy purple clot among others, red, green, hard as a knot. the speaker uses the ripeness of a berry to represent a life. The red and green berries description of the bessies suggest they are not ready yet. I interpreted the berries to also represent the end of a pregnancy, where the mother is almost ready to give birth, but not quite yet. The glossy purple clot represents the berry finally being ready to be picked. This could also represent the actual birth of the baby. Later in the poem Heaney describes the berries having A rat grey fungus (19) and later describes the berries saying that The fruit fermented, the sweet flesh would turn sour. (21) I interpreted this imagery as representing death. As people get older, their hair often turns gray. Also, the fruit fermenting may represent the actual final death as the fruit rots and no longer lives. The contrasting imagery of the beginning and end of the very may very well represent the life and death of a person. As we go through life we begin as new, small, and tiny. When we age, we often become wrinkled and the aging shows not only with skin, but as well as the hair as stated before. As we grow older our interpretation of the world goes from pretty bright colors to dull, boring ones. Heaney s use of the imagery shows the audience that good things ... I decided to use this poem because my parents are both going through what this mother is going through, graduating college and soon starting my life in the military. Mrs. Pastan wrote this poem describing a parents emotional state as her daughter goes away. In the poem the stanzas all have different meanings but three caught my eye. The first one was the moment as she ran along side her daughter teaching her to ride a bike, which symbolizes how the speaker has raised her daughter and was with her through all the wobbles in her life. The second one is the daughter rides further and further away on the bike, the speaker is growing more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Oral Communication Reflection Back on Tuesday, September 19, I (along with the rest of the class,) gave my first speech in Oral Communication Class. It was our first speech assigned/presented in class, and its topic, Self Introduction. Some people may find it challenging, but I see it as a very simple subject to talk about. Who knows more about you than yourself? No one! So why do people find it so hard to talk about? I had a funny feeling that the day the order of our speeches were assigned that I d be the first person to give their speech. Sure enough, I was the first person to give their speech. I m genuinely glad that I was first because I was able to get it out of the way and not have to stress on it. Giving a speech in front of my peers is nowhere near as nerve racking or terrifying as I thought it would be, but upon giving my speech, I would like to reflect on how I felt the day of my speech (in terms of confidence levels,) some verbal and delivery skills which I used well/not as well, some improvements that could of been put in place for my speech, and who in the class I believe gave the best speech among us all. First off, how I felt on the day of our first speech. I m not going to say that I was 100% confident in myself and not nervous at all, because that s simply not true, but all in all I felt pretty good and I wasn t really that nervous. Since I m used to speaking in front of people, I wasn t nervous about talking in front of my peers but forgetting what I m talking about in my speech since I m used to memorizing and not just speaking out in front of people. The only thing I could think of which I could do to make me less nervous than what I was on the day of my speech would be to go practice more in front of people who aren t my friends. Otherwise, I believe I used my skill of performing in theatre and transposed it into my speech so I wouldn t be nervous upon giving my speech. In speaking of skills, the next topic I d like to address is some skills which I used well/not so well. Some verbal skills I believe I used well (in the content) would be connecting to the audience with funny little examples of a side topic I was talking about. An example of this would be when I said as red head, I could either be Peter Pan at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In order to perpetuate their wealth and disguise their corrupt interior, they must oppress and exploit the proletariat through false consciousness. Both Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby and George Orwell s 1984 establishes societies that explores the Capitalismand Totalitarianism. George Orwell does that by setting 1984 in a futuristic totalitarian regime where the proletariat is under absolute control by the Party in order to eternalize their power over its citizens. San Francisco is the 13th most populated city and is the eighth worst city homeless rate with estimated 7,000 homeless in 2015. There are many factors that can result in the high number of homeless people. One of the most common reasons why is they could not get a job and they just decided to give up so they don t have enough money to do anything. One of the most unique would have to be President James A. Garfield though. He had his work cut out for him, especially during the election period. Running against the famous Ulysses S. Like the previous pet names analyzed, these bird metaphors also concentrate the senses of small size, youth, domesticity and entertainment. In Hindi Urdu, the very word bird is defined as a girl or a young woman(Webster). The metaphor is usually charged with affective connotations, being commonly used as a term of endearment. This positive evaluation appears to have its roots in the amorous disposition of the animalas well as in the folk tradition that associates birds with symbols of love (cf Talebinejad Dastejerdi, 2005). Indeed, with the exception of pet, bird and in certain contexts billi (kitten), all the aforementioned metaphors analyzed convey negative evaluations. Moreover, interestingly, even within the favorable animal terms, only kitten/gatita is restricted to females, since bird and pet are ambisexual in nature. In the conceptualization of women as pets, youth and small size appear to play a determinant role in the encoding of the metaphor, implying immaturity (the lack of age involves inexperience) and helplessness (unlike other animals, pets need to be looked after by people). Furthermore, the physical surroundings of pets, whose whole life spins around the house, might imply the idea of domesticity. The History and Implementation of Teacher Supervision and Evaluation Hoskins (1987) advocated that the process of teacher evaluation is multilayered and is affected by several complex and continually changing variables. The evaluation of teachers classroom performance has evolved tremendously over the last 100 years. Teacher evaluation has transformed along with emerging research pertaining to the role of teachers, effective teaching, and theories of student learning (Ellett Teddlie, 2003). The focus of teacher supervision and evaluation in the early years of the United States and abroad consisted of irregular reviews of teacher s work through direct observation by a traveling supervisor (Shinkfield Stufflebeam, 1995; Blumberg, 1985). Teacher supervision models date back to the 1840s, when common schools were spreading across the United States. Laypeople supervised the schools while young unqualified teachers educated students (Wirt Kirst, 2005). The only requirements for being a schoolmaster were the ability to read and write and the physical strength or personal charm to manage even the largest intransigent farm boy (Troen Boles, 2003). Circuit superintendents would journey to schools with the intent of evaluating teachers and awarding teacher licenses (Blumberg, 1985). In the 1890s, supervision was considered as an inspection to guarantee that curriculum was being followed and that students were learning (Robinson, 2009). Local governments particularly in urban areas exercised firm control over schools (Wirt Kirst, 2005). Ward politics within those systems viewed teaching positions as spoils that belonged to the political party that won the election (Wirt Kirst, 2005). Practitioners and advocates spread their awareness on how such power can feed into social injustice. Correlation between Power and Social Justice People who hold a position of power, such as Judges in the family court system have and can continue to perpetuate social injustice (Chung Bemak, 2011). Such perpetuator of social injustice can be unintentionally or intentional due to the lack of awareness of certain groups such as single fathers, fathers who struggle with mental illness, fathers who are gay and more (Chung Bemak, 2011). Judges in the family court system hold a great deal of power, such power has destroyed relationships with children and families due to Judges lacking awareness on the importance of fatherhood. Chung Bemak (2011) has expressed that people who hold positions in power and privilege, such as Judges, have and may continue to disregard people who are less powerful, such as fathers. The major source of credit to rural households, particularly low income working households, has been the informal sector. Informal sector advances loans at very high rates of interest; the terms and conditions attached to such loans have given rise to an elaborate structure of intimidation of both economic and non economic conditions in rural population in India. RRBs were established in India in 1975 essentially for the purpose of taking banking service to the doorsteps of rural people, particularly in places without banking facilities. The objectives as given in the preamble of RRBs Act of 1976 were to develop the rural economy in providing for the purpose of development of agriculture, trade commerce, industry and other productive activities n the rural areas, credit and other facilities particularly to the small and marginal farmers, agricultural labourers, artisans and small entrepreneurs and for matter connected therewith and incidental thereto In India rural people such as small and marginal farmers, landless agricultural laborers, artisans and socially and economically backward castes and classes ... • 20. Family Story And Origin Of A New Environment Every family story and origin is unique to the members of the immediate group, while including the traditions passed from generation to generation. From the scent of their house and clothes, special holidays, vacation spots, memories, what they eat and how it is served; all of these elements of life are distinct to a family. These elements are incorporated into what is viewed as normal life in a way that we don t see how our lives differ from those around us, until we are faced with a situation where things are done differently than us. Many families contain multi cultural backgrounds, therefore providing generations with traditions that include folklore from different origins. One of the biggest elements of culture how dishes are served and prepared. If you ever travel, one of the biggest attractions to a new environment is the foodthat is served in that area. Some food traditions are difficult to explain and don t make sense to outsiders, but to the family or local group it is a sense of definition and unity through foodways. In Louisiana especially, with Cajun culture, we see many festivals and events that are food based, and the pride in the locals that serve it. My family, all born and raised in the South, participate in the spicy food, crawfish boils, jambalaya sales, gumbocooking events that this culture offers. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Explaining Fast Fashion How fast fashion is affecting the environment is a very serious topic since this type of consumerism in the United States is heavy on supply and demand, and because of that shoppers want it all and want it now which is basically fast fashions motto. The way to make these pieces of clothing heavily rely on cheap materials that can be made quickly, so that is polyester and cotton being made in big factories that emit out toxins into our earth. Cotton being one of the most used fabrics takes a lot to be made into a single garment. Uzbekistan which is the 6th biggest producer of cotton had faced many conflicts during production since cotton uses so much water to be made it has dried up the 4th largest lake the Aral Sea because of how much we need to produce cotton fashion. (Prospectjournalucsd) Buying these cheap garments that become unwearable after 5 times (Forbes) of wearing it usually gets thrown out after and producing more waste that gets put into our waterways since theses garments shed easy and through washing them can find their way into oceans and on the shores everywhere. • 22. Poetic Devices In The Raven The poem I decided to explicate was The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe. The reason I chose this poem is because I love Edgar Allen Poe s writings. I have always loved reading his dark and twisted poems, even when I was younger in middle school his poems always got my attention the most. I had never read The Ravenuntil now, but I am familiar with some of his others like The Tell Tale Heart. I did really enjoy reading The Raven , the actual raven was a little creepy, but I also like to read poems with elements like that. In the first stanza there are two types of poetic devices used, one of them is the use of alliteration which is found very prominent throughout the entire poem. Some uses of alliteration that are found in the first stanza are while I pondered, weak and weary or while I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,/ as of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door. The whole first stanza is pretty much an example alliteration because of how every word starts with the same letter or sounds closely alike. Then the second type of poetic device used was the use of foreshadowing. Poe uses foreshadowing when says there is a visitor tapping on his door as if something bad is going to happen. In the second stanza Poe still uses alliteration, though not as strongly as in the first stanza. Some examples of alliteration used in the second stanza were found in the lines, Eagerly I wished the morrow; vainly I had sought to borrow from my books ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Esters are derived from carboxylic acids and (usually) an alcohol (Helmensine A, 2017). The reaction required to produce an esteris called esterification. Esterification is the reaction in which a Carboxylic acid combines with an alcohol in the presence of a catalyst (commonly concentrated sulphuric acid) to form an ester (Esterification, 2017). This is an example of a general class of reactions called condensations. Esters are common in our everyday lives. Esters are colourless, volatile liquids with pleasant aromas and create the fragrances and flavours of many flowers and fruits (Organic Chemistry Life, 2013). Esters are also excellent solvents for organic compounds. Sunburns lotions, nail polish removers, plasticisers and glues use esters as solvents (Veerenda, 2017). The aim of this experiment was to investigate different reactions between a range of alcohols and carboxylic acids to produce a variety of esters of different odours and discover how they can be used commercially in household products. It plays a significant role in the practice of many religions and yet not many dare to wonder who wrote such sacred writings that would still be read to this very day. For generations, it was almost unheard of to ask or even fathom the identity of the author. Richard Elliot Friedman, a biblical scholar and graduate from Harvard University, explores, studies, and analyzes the bibleto discover who wrote it. Having earned a master degree in theology, B.A degree in Philosophy, and master degree in Hebrew literature, Friedman proves to be a knowledgeable expert in his field of studies. From the years of work he invested into, Friedman aims to provide convincing evidence that the book is written by four persons through historical, archaeological, logical proof. Although the atomic bombing of Hiroshima brought an end to World War II, it is argued that it started a cold war between the two nations. The United States was developing atomic weapons from the year 1940 even after being warned by Albert Einstein on the research on nuclear weapons by Nazi Germany. By the time the United States tested its first atomic bombing Mexico in July 1945, Germany had already been defeated. However, the war against Japan in the pacific was increasingly becoming furious. However, after the second intifada, Israel was forced to impose restrictions on employment and forced to build a wall protecting the nation from outside forces (Miaari, Zussman, Zussman, 2014). This has had a negative physical impact on the Palestinian community as they are not allowed the freedom to travel and work as they were prior to this time. Since, according to Gelvin (2013) fifty eight UNRWA camps shelter about 1.5 million [Palestinian] refugees and their descendants (p. 2511) this has caused an issue with employment for the Palestinian people. It has also negatively impacted the Israeli citizens as they no longer have access to the Palestinian workers as they did prior to the second intifada. The West Bank was specifically negatively impacted. In fact, the national product was 22% lower in 2002 than in 2000 and the average unemployment rose to 28.2% from ... • 43. For My Comfort Zone Activity I Chose To Visit A Local Fantasy For my comfort zone activity I chose to visit a local fantasy and fetish store here in Philadelphia called the Kink Shoppe. I am quite a shy, hesitant person in general so you can only imagine what it is like for me engaging in sexual activity. Most people generalize college kids and sex but that is not the case for me. Personally, I have been in a committed relationship for two years now and we are sexually active but very basic in terms of being erotic. A better way to state it is the penis inserted in the vagina while thrusting the hips with occasional oral stimulation. Growing up in a reserved family that did not openly discuss anything sexual is also a factor I blame for my bashfulness. The main reason I chose to visit the Kink... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The day finally came and I ventured to the Kink Shoppe. The store did have all the items I pictured being there along with many other pieces of equipment that are used for the stimulation and arousal of people during sex. Dog collars, black leather masks that resemble a dog s head, and sharp metal doctor tools were the first three items I noticed and wondered to myself about how they were used during sexual play and activity. After taking awhile awkwardly browsing around by myself trying to be casual, I finally worked up the nerve to ask the worker various questions about the toys and tools. My face turning a bright shade of red is probably when the worker realized I felt very uncomfortable asking. She gladly answered and explained everything to me and made me feel more comfortable about being curious. In class, we briefly discussed BDSM which the worker talked about greatly while explaining the leather collars, leashes, whips, and masks. I touched a great amount of different types of dildos made from various materials such as glass, silicone, and rubber. The worker explained each one and who usually prefers which type based on their personal preferences and overall goal of the toy. Some vibrated, some were simple penis shapes. Touching fake penis at first made me feel like I was being unfaithful to my boyfriend. If I bought one, I feel as if it would degrade my boyfriend and make him feel as if he is not satisfying me which is not the case. That is when I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Fumigufium Research Paper Our world is giant but fragile. Fragile enough that we are able to greatly affect it. Our final articles focus on the topic of pollution and how it degrades our society as well as the environment. Fumigufium by John Evelyn begins by describing the terrible smoke and its affects caused by the burning of coal in London. The city is transformed from one of beauty to disgust. It was claimed you could barely distinguish someone from a crowd. People had developed persistent coughs as well. It was obvious the pollutionfrom fossil fuels had produced negative affects. Although, a fairly new energy source may now be harvested which burns cleaner than coal and oil. It is natural gas. As seen in Fracking Nation, natural gas is an untapped resource which... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe the answer to this is no, but it is more complicated than it seems. We may not be able to develop without degradation, but we may be able to limit degradation so that our effect becomes negligible and the environment is healthy enough to replenish itself. In the case of Fumifugium, the burning of wood rather than the burning of coal is seen as a cleaner solution since it emits less pollutants than coal. Even though it would require massive amounts of wood and deforstation, it was pointed out that trees could be replanted year by year replenishing the used supply. This increase of trees planted could also benefit the little pollutants that are created by burning the wood as trees are able to absorb CO2 from the atmosphere. Fracking Nation also provided its own solution to minimizing the affect of the fracking problem by the use of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). LPG converts back into a gas underground which allows it to be almost 100% retrievable when being sucked back up with the natural gas from the reservoir. It s retrievablity lowers the cost of filtering it back along with lowering the need for water and decreasing the size of staging operations needed. It eliminates the need for pits for waste. Furthermore, Restoring Rivers, describes how collaborative efforts and organization may promote restoration projects. Through these efforts the goals of improving water quality, managing riparian vegetation, enhancing in stream habitats, providing passages for fish, and stabilizing banks may be ... Katlyn Riggins WGST 343: 500 Fall 2015 Topic Number 4 Women in film are often portrayed in a manner deemed pleasurable to the male viewer. Laura Mulvey takes this concept and dissects it within her article Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema. Mulvey references the term male gaze, wom[en] displayed as sexual object[s] is the leitmotif of erotic spectacle: from pin ups to strip tease, from Ziegfeld to Busby Berkeley, she holds the look, and plays to and signifies male desire (Mulvey 40). Because of this interpretation it is relevant to examine different forms of media, such as films, to establish if the male gaze is present. Furthermore, it is appropriate to analyze films directed by women to identify the male gaze, due to their unique interpretation of female character s visual representation. In the essay that follows, it will consider Girlfight and Dance, Girl, Dance to analyze how two separate female filmmakers, Karyn Kusama and Dorothy Arzner respectfully, challenge the theory of the male gaze, along with comparing and contrasting the methods in which such challenges were made, and finally it will address how any filmmaker may object the male gaze. Within the film Girlfight, director Karyn Kusama presents the audience with a strong female protagonist. Actor Michelle Rodriguez debuts her career portraying the lead role of Diana and gives the audience a unique interpretation of the character. • 46. Comparing God and AI in Neuromancer Essay Parallels between God and AI in Neuromancer The world of meat provides the base for much of what happens throughout William Gibson s novel Neuromancer. The lives of characters are shaped by their flesh and blood experiences. The realm of artificial intelligence (AI) is the base for all of the events that are central to the life of a character. All events and lives are under control of the AI, and all things serve the AI s purpose. The matrix serves to mash the two realms together, in times and places where AI cannot physically control the meat. The relationship between these realms is a direct parallel to God s relationship with man. It is hard to disseminate exactly what Gibson wanted to portray in Neuromancer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This grand scheme remains unknown to Case, and the rest of humanity for that matter, but its existence is made known. This is indicative of the great meaning of life mystery that Christianity seeks to understand and explain. Case is not the sole representative of humanity. All men and women are; human nature and the desires, needs, and demands thereof are thrown under the term meat. This word is symbolic itself, being the physical makeup of humans and the source of human movement, as well as being food for survival. Meat is humanity, then. The meat does all kinds of godless things, including rampant and wanton drug use, casual, mindless sex, crime for crime s sake as a way of life, and remaining ignorant to a higher power other than their own will. The portrayal of humanity as meat makes it a polar opposite to the omnipotent, omnipresent AI. The meat is so far removed from god that it no longer cares about searching for something greater, it only finds itself indulging constantly in the senses. For the AI to carry out its purpose, for God to tend to His sheep, there must be a medium. The medium comes in the form of a salvific complex of fiber optic cable and ROM, ... One inferences that can be made is that the character Moses Kaldor greatly misses his wife after he left her to depart from Earth. This can be shown through his emotions and words when talking to the character Mirissa. Clarke writes, Yet we never really believed that End would be in our time who could! The Roles Of Auditing And Assurance Services Introduction The role accounting firms played in the last financial crisis raised questions about the legitimacy of auditing and assurance services. Auditors, who are considered independent and are supposed to provide reliable information to financial statement users, played a major part in the financial institutions crisis. The role of auditing is not to stop management from making poor business decisions, but it is to make sure that those decisions are properly disclosed (Rapoport, 2010). However, auditors failed to fulfill that role while auditing some of the largest financial institutions, which led to a huge financial meltdown during the first decade of the 21st Century. However, it is important to assure a greater independence and objectivity that offset the cost of switching. One example where auditors independence raised question is when the Ernest Young auditors allowed Lehman Brothers to use the off balance sheet financing method to hide its leverage. Ernest Young helped Lehman Brothers, a company they audited for many years, to mislead investors about the company s financial position which eventually led to its collapse. Audit Deficiencies External auditors could have prevented the collapse of large financial institutions by being more skeptical and exercising professional due care while servicing their clients. In many cases, auditors failed to obtain sufficient evidence supporting key assumption of management asset valuations, asset ownerships or the use of accounting estimates. Ernst Young failed to exercise professional due care while auditing Lehman Brothers. Lehman Brothers used Repo 105 transactions that a British law firm approved for them to make its balance sheet look better and Ernst Young agreed to the accounting management applied to these transactions without actually examining any of the Repo 105 transactions. • 49. Post-Civil War America and Policies After the Civil War, which culminated in 1865, the government of United States needed to reunify southern and northern states back together, and the only solution for that were reforms in South. The new political developments began In 1863 when president Abraham Lincoln suggested Ten Percent Plan which indicated that a southern state could be readmitted to the Union as soon as ten percent of its voters asseverated the oath of allegiance to the Union. Lincoln ensured southerners that government will protect their private property, but not their slaves. After Lincoln was assassinated on April 14, 1865, the new President of United Statescontinued following his Ten Percent Plan. Also Lincoln proposed the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, promulgated that all persons held as slaves within any State, or designated part of a State, the people whereof shall then be in rebellion against United States, shall be then, thenceforward and forever free. Nevertheless, Emancipation Proclamation did not end slavery in the states. Lincoln hoped to inspire all the slaves in the Confederacy with the Proclamation. Especially to support the Union Cause and keep European countries, in particular England and France, from politically giving the confession and military aid to Confederacy. • 50. The Agile Methodology ( Am ) For Software Development Essay The Agile methodology (AM) for software development is an iterative system characterized by cycles of development, testing, and stakeholder feedback. According to Ferreira and Cohen, the Agile methodology has the following five characteristics (50): 1.Iterative development: Small versions of the software are developed at regular intervals. 2.Continuous integration: Instead of waiting until the end to make changes to code, code changes are integrated immediately and then tested to ensure they work. 3.Collective ownership: Development teams are fluid as team members take on different roles depending on need. They all own and are responsible for the system. 4.Test driven design: Developers identify the testing required before beginning to write the code for the system. 5.Feedback loop: In AM, there is a frequent feedback loop from stakeholders to ensure that the software is on track with expectations throughout the process. Each loop in Agile development is characterized by development of specific features, testing, stakeholder review, incorporation of changes, and then on to the next cycle until completion. Comparison of the methods: Stakeholder input: Both waterfall and Agile methodologies use stakeholder requirements in their process. In the waterfall case study, the video game highlighted had a pre production stage where the requirements were identified and analysis was done up front to develop the game conception. The design is based on that early analysis and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
