IRAQ WAR A DISASTER 2
Was the Iraq War a Disaster? From 1979 to 2003 Saddam Hussein ruled Iraq in a brutal
dictatorship. The first action taken against Hussein s regime began in 1990 when Iraq invaded and
annexed Kuwait. In a coalition led by the United States, Great Britain, and Saudi Arabia, Saddam
Hussein was defeated. From that point the United Nations imposed many sanctions upon Iraq. In
2003 President George W. Bush and the United States asked the United Nations Security Council to

The Iraq Warhas damaged the economy in several ways. One way is by decreasing the value of
United States currency. In one year the U.S. dollar lost over 30% of its value against the Euro.
The price of crude oil also reached record highs of $90 per barrell during the Iraq War. This led to
an increWhen the United States first went to war President Bush thought it was a good idea to
cut taxes. ...this was the first time in American history that a president took us into a war and
cut taxes (Farley, 2009, p. 1). Typically, taxes rise during times of war to help compensate for the
cost of fighting. With lowered tax rates prior to and during the Iraq War the United States was
put in a difficult predicament. We were required to borrow large sums of money from other
countries to finance the war. This is a large part of why we are struggling with a national debt
issue today. As of today the United States has accumulated over $18 trillion in national debt. Of
that $18 trillion, one third can be attributed to the Iraq War. The amount of money we owe to
other countries isn t shrinking either. Our debt has increased by an average of $3.25 billion since
2012. If the amount we owe was divided amongst every taxpaying citizen in the United States
each person would have to pay roughly $58,400 to compensate for the amount we owe. The total
cost of the Iraq War was over $3 trillion. This $3 trillion could have been used to boost the United
States economy, finance the ongoing War on Terror in Afghanistan, or be held as savings for future

Anti Discriminatory Practice
This essay will consider the prominence of anti judgemental and anti discriminatory practice
through the examination of the chosen article Queer treatments: giving a voice to former patients
who received treatments for their sexual deviation by Dickinson, Cook, Playle and Hallett (2012).
The three significant messages highlighted are the harmful medical practice utilised on the patients,
the criminalisation of homosexualityuntil 1967 (Dickinson 2010) and the lack of autonomy of
nursing profession. In this essay, the harmful medical practice will be discussed in relation to The
Code (NMC 2015), the NHS Constitution (DoH 2015) and the Equality Act (2010).
The National Health Service (NHS) carried out several treatments to cure homosexuality and
transvestism (Dickinson 2010). Chemical aversion therapy involved inducing vomiting by using a
strong emetic, apomorphine, whereas electrical aversion therapy involved the patient receiving
electric shocks. These treatments were enabled by doctors and nurses to alter the sexual orientation
of certain individuals (Dickinson et al 2012). A barbaric torture scene by the Gestapo in Nazi
Germany trying to extract information from me is how Percival Thatcher (Dickinson 2015)
described aversion therapy from his experience. Because of the intensive nature of the chemical
aversion therapy, individuals receiving chemical aversion therapy were inpatients at psychiatric
wards (Smith et al. 2004). This highlights how distressing treatments

Understand how duty of care contributes to safe practice. 1. Explain what it means to have a
duty of care in own work role. It is very important as we are responsible for all the members while

Landolt Clock Reaction Lab Report
DISCUSSION
By analysing the results of The Landolt clock reaction, and the outcomes that occur due to change
in concentration and the addition of a catalyst, the data did partially support the hypothesis. That
by changing the concentrations of potassium iodate and sodium bisulphite the rate of the reaction
will increase. The rate gradually increased per every 10 seconds on the NaHSO3 graph. Whereas
compared to the KIO3 graph the rate was more efficient, the reaction was achieved within 5
seconds. However, the second hypothesis regarding the addition of a catalyst, displayed acceptable
results. The catalyst increased the speed of the reaction within 10 seconds, which was slightly faster
than the reaction times gained from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The tests that had large amounts of distilled water had a long reaction rate due to the breaking of the
molecular compounds within the reagents.
Secondary data states that the rate law yielded from the iodine clock reaction was rate = k[IO3] 1
(Lyle, Department of Chemistry) which was different to the rate law that this investigation
obtained. 0.41 [KLO3]^2 [NaHSO3]^2. This would have happened due to the changing of both
KIO3 and NaHSO3, and also by adding more distilled water to the mixture which slowed down the
reaction rate.
Rate law is important, when regarding iodine clock reactions. The rate law helps to determine what
factors impact the rate, and increase the reaction time. Also helps show what factors decrease the
reaction rate.
There were some limitations that were encountered during the experiment, and the planning stages.
Such as, the constant changes made to the method. The method had to be changed three times this
was due to scaling back the measurements of the solutions. The solutions that were part of the
original method would have resulted in 20 ml of the blue solution, which would waste the sodium
bisulfite and potassium, every time a test was conducted.
Another limitation was the trial testing to see whether the experiment worked, which produced
efficient results. Compared to the actual experiment data, many tests had to be repeated. This would
be due to minor

facilities, they provide assistance to elderly inmates so that they can apply for social security,
Medicare benefits, and a health care education program. In seven states, they have housing units
reserved for the elderly inmates. The reason for this is due to their special medical needs or their
eligibility for hospice care. For example, the Minnesota correctional facility for older prisoners
has a dedicated housing unit for inmates within the age range of fifty five and older with chronic
health problems (Abner). Nurses are provided for them sixteen hours a day (Abner). Angola state
penitentiary in Louisiana is one of the many prisons that offer hospice care for inmates in their

release programs. For some reason, it is hardly used due to the fact that most of the older prisoners
die while in prison or literally have no where to go, so they decided to remain imprisoned. Some
are released under medical reprieve, a supervised release program for prisoners who are
considered a low risk for re offending. Due to the population growth amongst elderly prisoners,
along with the fact that they are getting sicker and sicker as they age, the cost toward the state that
these prisoners require will continue to grow as

Gender Inequality And Decision Making
Inequality is experienced in various ways. Along with race and class inequalities, we have
gender inequalities. What creates and maintains significant gender inequality when it comes to
decision making? We could look back to1918; when Irish decision makers were made up solely
of men. From 1919 to today we see a similar trend of gender inequality. It seems that when it
comes to power and decision making, women take the back seat. We can argue that men and
woman are naturally good at different things resulting to society creating this gender gap. Power
and decision making belongs to men, although ministerial positions do not require physical
strength or abilities that a woman would not have by nature, however woman are absent in
taking part. Looking into where Ireland stands compared to the rest of the world, we can get an
idea of what contributes in maintaining gender inequality when it comes to positions of power
in political decision making. Social conflict can be seen all over the world we live in: in sports,
politics and normal social engagements. The main point I have experienced with this theory
would be the fact that I don t come from a rich, powerful, and prestigious family, which in turn
limits my chances of being successful. Karl Marx studied social conflict His entire life and wanted
to reduce social inequality. The social conflict theory can be described as favoritism. Society tends
to show favoritism to the prestigious members of that particular society. Social

children move their clothespins up or down the chart, based on the behavioral choices they make.
If they are making good choices, they can move their clothespin up a level at a time.
Inappropriate behavior would cause them to move down a level. Since the children start in the
middle of the chart, they have numerous opportunities to work their way up the chart. This really
helps the children realize that they have to have self control and be responsible for their actions
and behavior if they want to be recognized for making good choices. Making it to the top of the
chart is not easy, but it is definitely attainable. The children quickly realize how they must conduct
themselves in order to achieve this goal.

Cormac Mccarthy s No Country For Old Men
No Country for Old Men, by Cormac McCarthy, is about a Vietnam War veteran stumbling upon
an irreversible mistake of witnessing a drug deal going completely south and his journey of being
on run from these dealers. This novel has the adaptation of becoming a screenplay as Robert
Mckee writes in his novel, Story. No Country for Old Menhas elements Mckee describes
incorporated within the novel, such as characterdevelopment and controlling ideas. McCarthy s
novel incorporates a defeat for the protagonists instead of the typical victory against evil. Victories
are clichГ© which Mckee believes should be avoided when creating a film, so McCarthy s novel
fits the role well.
Mckee describes in his novel how protagonists should have a conscious desire, meaning a goal they
strive to achieve. In No Country for Old ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Llewellyn Moss s development as a protagonist revolves around his experience as a war veteran
clouding his judgment and ultimately deciding his fate. Moss deals with inner conflict from his
disillusionment of war. His sense of autonomy and freedom drives him into a corner he cannot
escape. Moss proves to be an ideal protagonist through Mckee s Story since he is a character
dealing with conflict and striving to achieve his desires even though it ends in failure. No
Country for Old Men also incorporates a controlling idea. Mckee s thoughts on a controlling idea
are that it has a value plus a cause. In McCarthy s novel, this idea is reality giving the protagonist
a new perspective in life can ultimately lead to his demise. This phrase is insight of how the
novel should be displayed towards the audience. The protagonist should have an experience that
makes them think differently of the world; however, this thought process yields to their demise.

Network Built For Local Area Networks Essay
WANs are systems built for information exchange that connects computers from anywhere in
the world across the globe. A wide area network (WAN) is generally used by large corporations
or organizations. WANs are very useful to these sorts of associations because it easily allows
them to deploy data from their computers to disseminate offices. Large organizations that use
multiple facilities usually end up using WANs. Smaller businesses are increasingly using WANs
as well. They are able to use WANs if they have at least two secluded sites. WAN usually connects
two or more LANs together. LAN stands for local area networks. The internetthat we all use is very
much considered a WAN. WANs have existed for many years. They are methodical and controlled
much differently from other types of telecommunication systems. WANs are very similar to LANs
because they serve almost the same purpose. WANs are still a bit more intricate than LANs of
course. In order for a user to use WAN, they first would have to subscribe to a telecommunication
providers service. The organizations that choose to use WANs do not own or control any of the
communication lines that connect the secluded network systems to other computers. WANs are not
used to connect individual computers with each other. They were built to link different LANs
together. When the WAN connects the LANs to each other this is called internetwork. Routers and
remote bridges play a part to the internetwork as

Love and Lust in Play By Play, Sex without Love, and Junior Year Abroad
Lust is an incredibly strong feeling that can prove to be almost uncontrollable, leading it to
commonly be mistaken for love. Due to the relative closeness of these emotions, both are often
confused, and even when one is in love he or she does not recognize it. Many think that love just
comes knocking on one s door and one will know when it does, but they don t realize that for love
to occur a relationship has must be worked out. Love is described by some as fireworks, tingles,
and butterflies in the stomach; but it is lust that can cause these things to happen, and it is these that
mark only the beginning of a relationship. After a while, these ... Show more content on

At first, one might see the work as condemning people who have sex without being in love; but
after further review, one can see how Olds really portrays these people. She describes them as
being ...Beautiful as dancers,/ gliding over each other like ice skaters (Olds 838); also they are
considered very religious, and in tune with their bodies much like great runners are. The
characters in the poem are depicted as athletes, agile and ready to compete, much like how the
narrator, who talks so highly of them, wants to be. However, once again, only the emotion of lust is
present in this piece, and there is no confusion between love and lust.
So many people fall victim to lust, believing that it is something more than what it is. In the poem
Junior Year Abroad, the lead character reveals lust for a man in her homeland, an emotion that
quickly fades away after meeting someone during her stay in Paris. The poem begins with an
introduction to her situation and reveals that he will come to Paris at Christmas to be with her.
The shelf life of my promise expired (Rebecca 839), is how she refers to her lover s upcoming
visit, explaining how quickly her lust for him has gone away. This poem gives specific examples of
how lust can be there one minute, then fade the

Theme Of Pride In House Of Mirth
It can be duly noted that, regardless of the time period, the history of American lifestyles follow
similar patterns. One can easily identify major stepping pinnacles through the literature published at
that time. Throughout the novels House of Mirth, A Mercy and the play Death of a Salesman, the
thematic realms of Freedom and Confinement, Pride, Respect and Reputation are often explored
and we can identify that the lives of these very different set of New Yorkers experience great
hardships. First, we will explore the theme of Pride within the novelHouse of Mirth. Pride is not a
groundbreaking theme but is very much evident in numerous characters. Lily Bart herself is guilty

Gryce s assessment of this group, there are boundaries within it which should not be crossed,
limiting the members of the society in House of Mirth to a sense of restriction. The self imposed
rules prevent people from doing as they please or experiencing the tribulations that life throws at
them. Examples of this is that women marry solely for financial purposes, women should not
befriend married men or even smoke cigarettes. The people are expected to play their role in this
high end society and any deviance from this is condemned. The following quote examines Lily s
appearance towards everyone and how she was expected to act.: To Selden s exasperated
observation she was only too completely alive to them. She was perfect to every one:
subservient to Bertha s anxious predominance, good naturedly watchful of Dorset s moods,
brightly companionable to Silverton and Dacey. (Wharton, 2.1.43) The freedom in this society
is minimal, even to those who are financially adept. Selden states that his version of success is
freedom. Despite that he continues to participate in the menial activities of this society.
Previously, we noted that Selden is less restricted in this society and his male gender allows his
reputation to stand strong. This is also the case for his sense of freedom. He can feel free only
because he is a male and women are constantly confined because they are female. Similarly, Bertha
Dorset is completely aware of her downfall if her

Examples Of Suspense In Stranger Things
Suspense is when the author makes the reader, or audience excited or scared for what might
happen in the story, or even what will happen to the character next in the story. Suspense might
even be something you see or hear that will make you have questions about what will happen
next. If there is a cliffhanger at the end of a story, it will leave you with questions wondering
what will happen to the characters next. The mood, tone, setting, emotions of character, sound and
sight might affect how the story is suspenseful. We all enjoy watching suspenseful movies and
reading stories, because they are exciting. It leaves us with questions that the author won t have
the answers to in the end, so the author gives us as the audience, the chance to make up their own
ending to the story or movie. The author will give you clues throughout the story, to help you fill
in questions you might have in the end. This makes it more exciting for the reader and the
audience because we get to engage with the characters in the book or movie. The tv series,
Stranger Things, is about 4 kids who have to fight off monsters in a little town in Indiana. This TV
show is a great example of suspense, and it shows it effectively because, of Foreshadowing,
Dilemma, and Dramatic Irony presented throughout the show. With just using those four examples,
Stranger Things is a great example of suspense. The example, foreshadowing is when the writer

Different Schools Of Statutory Interpretation
Introduction and Thesis There are multiple schools of thought when it comes to how courts should
interpret statues and legislation, some schools advocate a literal, textual reading of the relevant
statues, while other schools advocate taking other factors into account when making a decision,
factors like the intent of the legislature when they passed the statue. The case AA v BB provides a
good look into the issue of statutory interpretation because the two different courts that heard the
case applied a different from of statutory interpretation. The lower court stuck to a textual
interpretation, whereas the court of appealconsidered the legislative intent behind the relevant
statues. This paper will argue that of the two schools of statutory interpretation applied in the case,
textualism and intentionalism, neither is completely appropriate and that the pragmatic approach
to statutory interpretation is the most appropriate method to use. It will then argue that the decision
by the Ontario Court of Appeal in AA v BB is the more convincing decision as it best aligns with
the pragmatic approach.
Point I: Why the pragmatic approach is more appropriate than a strictly textualist or intentionalist
approach.
Textualism is a school of statutory interpretation that relies on the text of the statue to determine the
true intent of the legislature. Textualism is heavily reliant on the plain meaning rule, which
essentially means that when the text of a statue is clear and

While millions of people can easily be seen as holding sales jobs, the promotional techniques used
in selling are also part of the day to day activities of many who are usually not directly associated
with selling. For instance, top corporate executives whose job title is CEO or COO are continually
selling their company to major customers, stock investors, government officials and many other
stakeholders. The techniques they employ to gain benefits for their company are the same used by
the front line salesperson to sell to a small customer. Consequently, our discussion of the
promotional value of personal selling has implications beyond marketing and sales departments.
Advantages of Personal Selling
One key advantage personal selling has over other promotional methods is that it is a two way
form of communication. In selling situations the message sender (e.g., salesperson) can adjust the
message as they gain feedback from message receivers (e.g., customer). So if a customer does not
understand the initial message (e.g., doesn t fully understand how the product works) the
salesperson can make adjustments to address questions or concerns. Many non personal forms of
promotion, such as a radio advertisement, are inflexible, at least in the short term, and cannot be
easily adjusted to address audience questions.
The interactive nature of personal selling also makes it the most effective promotional method for

Summary Of Rohinton Mistry And A Fine Balance
Shakespeare s tragedy King Lear discusses how people quickly blame fate for events that are
actually the fault of their own actions, saying that, This is the excellent foppery of the world...
when we are sick in fortune, often the surfeits of our own behaviour, we make guilty of our
disasters the sun, the moon, and the stars: as if we were villains by necessity (Edmund, King Lear).
Similarly, A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry demonstrates that the joys, injustices, and cruelties
present in the characters lives happen due to circumstances beyond their control, such as
government regulations and the societal traditions and systems surrounding them everyday. Amidst
the political turmoil and uproar of the Emergency in India, Rohinton Mistry depicts the lives of
good, everyday people as they struggle to gain stable footing in a highly corrupt and hierarchical
society. In this depiction of various characters living in Indian society, Mistry portrays how India s
deeply rooted societal traditions and systems create an indirect line of causalities that disguises
itself as fate.
Mistry demonstrates how the characters defiance of traditional Indian gender roles creates a line
of causalities that ultimately determine the character s path. Mistry contextualizes these gender
roles when he describes that, It was hard for [wives] not to be resentful the birth of daughters
often brought them beatings from their husbands and their husband s families (Mistry 100). The
author includes this quote to demonstrate the considerably large extent to which males hold
power and priority in Indian society, thus making women nearly impotent with the exception of
Dina, which may explain why the author gives her a central role in the novel. Therefore, the
defiance of gender roles which the society in which they live considers as a crime since the
values of misogyny have invaded their worldview is dangerous, but represented in the character
of Dina Dalal. Dina was quickly widowed, but Mistry depicts her as a strong woman who
struggles to keep her independence in a society that expects her to be subordinate to another man.

most misanthropic film, and tells the story of the Irish tennis player, Chris Wilton, who works in
a London high end club as a tennis instructor, when he meets Tom Hewett. Tom s sister Chloe, a
rather boring woman, shows interest in Chris and the two become a couple, and Chloe grants
him access to the upper class of London and a financially secure future. His life begins to skid
when he begins an affair with Tom s fiancГ©e Nola, a struggling American actress. Nola satisfies
his sexual desires, whereas Chloe only wants to have regulated intercourse in order to become
pregnant. For a while, Chris leads a double life but when Nola, not Chloe, becomes pregnant, she

In Match Point, Chris Wilton starts to play tennis because it was a way out of poverty and offers
a more glamorous life. When he decides not to pursue this career, he goes to London to work as
a tennis instructor, still not knowing what he wants to do with his life. Over dinner, he mentions
how he had to wash cars to make a living, similar to the life of Nola Rice. She escapes from her
rural life in Boulder Colorado, where she comes from a broken home. She tells Chris that she
never went to college, her sister is a drug addict, her father left her family early, and that her
mother, also an alcoholic, had to take care of the family, but could not hold any job. Therefore,
she sent Nola to beauty pageants, where her insecurity started. Nola, always known as the sexy
vamp, is in fact a vulnerable woman (one divorce and two abortions), who only wants to be loved
by a man. Chris and Nola both want to climb up the social latter, which indicates a deeper and
blunt character; they are hungry in ways the Hewett s will never need to be (Cooper

Mozart Classical Style Essay
Introduction:
In the classical period most people only described the 18th century music as classical music
(style) but it was carefully divided between 3 main styles namely the Gallante style, the
Empfindsam style and Sturm und Drang and finally the Classical style. Later during the 17th
century the music styles became more important and because of the large number of instrumental
players in the orchestra and most of the growth took place in the orchestra field. The first genre
that came to rise was the style gallant around the 1720s to the 1770s it was also known and
described as sophisticated and elegant (Burkholder, Grout Palisca 2010).

He started to compose them in a three movement form, but later he used the standard four

composers . (Burkholder, Grout Palisca 2010:559).What made Mozart and Haydn s symphonies
similar, they both were more serious in their music and with the complexity and the climatic ending
made Mozart s music more popular and in high demand for public concerts. The difference between
these two great composers was the fact that Haydn s finales left the audience with a more cheerful
mind than Mozart. (Gretchen:1991 and
String Quartet in E flat major, Op. 33, Russian, No. 2, Hob.III:38, Joke
Haydn was referred as the father of string quartets and this particular one, String quartet in E flat
major, Op.33, composed in 1781, shows great examples of all the different element he used in his
string quartets. The name, The Joke originated because of the fact that Haydn replaced the normal
minuet into a scherzo, which meant playfulness. (Gretchen:1991)
In this composition, he introduces the theme several times, which played in his advantage, because
it would help the audience remember the theme. And his dance like rhythm and pulse was regular
and he used abrupt changes in his meter, tempo and dynamics.

Designing A Design And Building Health Care Facilities For...
In the past 15 years, modular constructions are widely used in all kinds of new buildings.
Architects prefer the way of built and design because of the sustainable and economic
performances. Also, it is an ideal way to improve the variability of a project significantly to adjust
to the development of the urban and growth of the population. Texas has the best health care
facilities and medical research institutes in the world and keep growing rapidly for decades. It
should be a promising design practice to apply modular construction to design and build health care
facilities for higher efficiency and sustainability. Although many researches had done in both filed

The built environment should be as importance as the building process (Guenther, 2009).
As the trend of healthcare architecture research and design, sustainability is researched by scholars.
What is more important, the theory should be tested and practiced in planning, designing and
constructing. Varied strategies have been worked out by world wide designers and constructors.
Modular construction and design is one of the thousands of strategies. A research done by Wu
(2014) analyzed the ecological performance of modular constructions. By criteria of the LEED,
charts and calculations were finished to prove sustainable performance of buildings. Also, the
author summarized how modular construction works. First, designers should figure out specific
rule to determine the modular decomposition. Then, each modular was designed individually by
sustainable standard. At last, the modules would be combined together and test the function
requirement (Wu, 2014). The author also mentioned that a green building technology modular
system could be built up by combining with the theory and the characteristics of green building
technology system. Obviously, it is a unique way of design using modular as thinking and design
method, also can be called a theory, to meet the sustainable requirements. As a kind of construction
method, modular construction itself has own features including sustainability. A book

Causes of Depression Essay
Depression is a rapidly growing mental illness that strikes millions, but they never know the cause
of this common, yet sometimes, harmful illness. If victims and potential victims knew what
caused depression, they could do more to prevent it from happening. In order to know what causes
depression, one has to know what it is. The online dictionary defines it as a condition of general
emotional dejection and withdrawal; sadness greater and more prolonged than that warranted by
any objective reason (Dictionary: 1) .
Depression doesn t just come from one single cause, but instead, likely results from a combination
of genetic, biochemical, environmental, and psychological factors (NIMH: 1) . The National

It s a general stereotype that they stay up late and sleep all day. It may seem like the fun thing to
do, but it can cause problems. Due to a lack of being able to sleep, it has an effect on functioning,
as well as leading to psychiatric disorders. In teens, depression can be caused by sleeping too
much or too little, so getting just the right amount of sleep is still ideal (Psychology Today: 1).
On a more recently noted fact, eating junk food can cause depression as well. Junk food is bad for
your weight and health, but British and French scientists also found that it causes depression.
These scientists analyzed data from 3.486 men and women by their food and mood data
(Hindustan: 1) . Each person was given a questionnaire about the food they ate. Five years later,
those same people were given a questionnaire that measured symptoms of depression. The results
showed people who ate more processed foods were depressed, compared to people who ate
healthier (Hindustan: 1).
A shocking discovery that may baffle all is that the Internet causes depression, as well. British
scientists that researched this cause said that the longer people spent online, the less likely they
were to be happy (Internet: 1) . The study also says the worst cases were both depressed and
addicted. Unfortunately, it was not clear to the scientists whether the internet caused depression or
vice versa. Because of the

The Terrible Boy Analysis
In the article The Terrible Boy written by Tom Junod Jonathan Miller was one of the world s
most terrible boys. In America s eyes a terrible boy is cruel, hostile and merciless. In this article,
Jonathan was painted by these descriptions. However, this wasn t always the case. He wasn t
terrible when he moved to Georgia he just wanted to get kicked out of school, so he did whatever
it took. Though in highschool he took on the description of a terrible boy. It all started on the bus
when Jonathan threw a open ketchuppacket at his rival Joshua Belluardo. They got off the bus and
instead of a fight it was a crime scene.Jonathan murdered Joshua. Sadly, though Jonathan was a
terrible he should have been shown mercy.
However in the article The Terrible Boy Jonathan was not the only terrible boy; Tom Junod was
also a terrible boy. He took advantage of a boy named Timmy Titimski for the fact that he was
new to the school and had no friends. Tom looked at him as a Baby and wanted to make him cry.
Tom saw the perfect opportunity to make him cry in class when no teachers were around. He
covered timmy with spitballs. This happened because Timmy had no immunity to Tom s Actions.

Prejudice of any kind implies that you are identified with the thinking mind. It means you don t see

To reduce the aliveness of another human being to a concept is already a form of violence.

When and why we in stereotype?
In the first article that I decided to review (Staple Noordewier, 2011) they went through a series of
correlation and experimental studies concluded that system justification motives result in
stereotyping and the motive behind it is the need for structure. They also mention the fact that
people who feel part of unjust systems are also more likely to engage in stereotyping and the impact
of system justification threat on stereotyping disappears when the desire to justify the system is
satisfied through an alternative route.
The system justification theory, described in this article, proposes that when people stereotype they
aren t just healing or preserving their selves but are instead providing justifications for the social
structure they belong to, and their believes that the world is just and legitimate. But why this need
for a justification? Simply because systems provide structure and humans need that

Shark Bay Stromatolites
Module Focus: Life On Earth
FOCUS QUESTIONS:
1.How does an understanding of the Shark Bay stromatolites provide paleontological evidence that
suggest when life originated on Earth?
Glossary
Stromatolites simple bacteria existed in structures called stromatolites which were very similar to
present day living stromatolites. These organisms live in shallow marine environments.
Stromatolites are formed through the activity of primitive unicellular organisms (cyanobacteria/blue
green algae and other algae).
These grow through sediment and sand, binding the sedimentary particles together, resulting in
successive layers and over a long period, these harden to form rock. Stromatolites were the main
reef building organisms constructing large masses of calcium carbonate for at least Вѕ of the Earth
s history.

Stromatolites are still produced by microbes today. These modern stromatolites are remarkably
similar to the ancient stromatolites which provide evidence of some of the earliest life on Earth.
Modern and ancient stromatolites have similar shapes and, when seen in cross section, both show
the same fine layering produced by thin bacterial sheets. Microfossils of ancient cyanobacteria can
sometimes be identified within these layers.
Palaeontology the scientific study of fossils and all aspects of extinct life determining the structure
and evolution of extinct animals, plants, the age and conditions of deposition of the rocks in which
they are found.

In addition, due to the higher price, it completely cut off the low consumer groups, which improve

focus more on its service instead of the product. And the article says that the Starbucks require its
operators to identify with the idea and the brand of the corporation, and also emphasizes the
consistency of the operation, discipline and quality (Guang, 2011). Lastly, Starbucks has a unique
promotion idea according to the article, which says that it thinks in service industry, the most
important marketing channel is the branch store itself, not the advertisement (Guang, 2011).
Therefore, Starbucks does not spend lots of money on advertising, instead, it persist in training its
employees to be knowledgeable and enthusiastic, which has become a unique feature of Starbucks
promotion.
However, because Starbucks expands rapidly in the global market in order to pursue the financial

Diana s Monologue
MOM! Diana can hear up the stairs, through the thin walls. Her daughter, Scarlet, stomps up the
creaky wooden stairs, careful to skip the missing step. Diana calls exasperatedly, In here, Scarlet.
Slamming the door open, Diana s eleven year old daughter storms across the small, cozy room,
coming to a stop at her mother s queen sized bed. A tear sheds from Scarlet s hazel eyes, her
auburn hair falling across her fair face. Dread seethes through Diana s veins, fear rising from the
pit of her almost anorexic stomach. Scarlet, what is it? Talk to me, she pleads. The child s mouth
twists into a grimace as she mumbles, Josh told me the reason you don t spend time with me
anymore is because because you don t love me. Diana s heart constricts. Seventeen year old Josh,
Scarlet s first crush, their next door neighbor, told Scarlet her mother had forgotten about her, that
she means nothing to Diana? Scowling, Diana pats the space next to her on the warm bed,
ignoring the pain; she s too sick to feel angry now. All she feels is sorrow... and dread for what she
needs to tell her baby, her happiness. Hesitantly, Scarlet scrambles... Show more content on

This morning. You had told me you needed to talk to me after breakfast? The princess frames
the sentence as a question, as if maybe she was wrong about her and Dayna s exchange this
morning. Oh. Yes, but I think we should take a walk first, Dayna says somberly. The ailing queen
is aware of her inconvenient stalling, for she is still identifying exactly what she will convey to her
cherished daughter. Thus, Dayna and Sienna gradually made their way toward the elegant flower
garden, Sienna attempting to make small talk with her mother every so often, but gave up when
she realized just how distracted Dayna had been for the last few

Fairy Tales By The Grimm Brothers
Originally, fairy tales were used to teach children social norms or cultural beliefs within a
society, instead of primarily being used as entrainment. Fairy tales are also known to guide
children to accept the traditional stereotypes of being female and male, as they typically
reinforce the idea that women would be more desirable if they are not only obedient, but pure
and beautiful as well. The view of women as a lessor sex is also a common belief in a patriarchal
society, which is commonly found in most fairy tales. The ideas which fairy tales reinforce needs
to be challenged. Written by the Grimm brothers, the two fairy tales Little Snow White {1819} and
Little Briar Rose {1812} will be analysed, along with Hans Christian Andersens... Show more

The film does discriminate against women, as it portrays women to be submissive to a man s will.
The film also displays an attitude that it is perfectly acceptable for a beautiful woman to fall in love
with an ugly beast, but there is no indication that it is okay for a handsome man to fall for an
ugly woman. The film also displays woman solely in the private sphere, and the one occasion
where Belle leaves it, she has to be rescued. This indicates the idea that once a woman leaves the
comforts of home, she has to require the services of man to ensure her safety. Aside from the
enchantress, all other female character are shown as silly and selfish.
The film also displays the idea that if one does not conform to societies guidelines and values, then
they will be deemed as an outcast. Throughout the beginning of the film it is clear to the reader that
Belle is very intelligent, and possesses qualities which are typically reserved for male characters,
such as being adventures, reading, and inventing. Despite her obvious intelligence, the villagers
deem her as an outcast due to her overall longing for adventure. This reinforces the thinking that
intelligent females are a rarity, and to be something to be tolerated, but not encouraged. This is
shown when the villagers attempt to foil her ideas,

Social Issues In The Glass Castle By Jeannette Walls
The Glass Castle Jeannette Walls, subject and author of The Glass Castle, includes several social
issues that she and her family come across daily during her childhood. However, the three most
important social issues the memoir addresses is poverty, alcoholism, and child abuse. These social
issues affect a large amount of children with their emotions and social development.
To start, poverty is referred to lack of means necessary to meet basic needs like food, clothing and
shelter. In the memoir, poverty is a major social issue for the Wall family. At times, the Wall
children would go days without having anything to eat and kept their hunger to themselves, but
would always think of ways to get their hands on some food (67).

Child abuse is physical, sexual, or psychological mistreatment or neglect of a child, especially by a
parent or other caregiver. Throughout the memoir Jeannette recounts many forms of child abuse
that she and her siblings had to experience. To illustrate, one example from The Glass Castleis when
Erma sexually abuses Brian. I went into Grandpa s bedroom and saw Erma kneeling on the floor
in front of Brian, grabbing his crotch of his pants, squeezing and kneading while mumbling to
herself and telling Brian to hold still, goddammit. Brian, his cheeks wet with tears, was holding
his hands protectively between his legs (146). When Rex and Rosemary came back home from
Phoenix, it seemed Rex had an idea of what had happened to Brian. After Rex telling the children
that they were wrong for their actions towards their grandmother, Jeanette and Lori notice that Rex
was unusually odd about the situation between Erma and Brian. Jeanette was disgusted and
disturbed to think Erma had abused their father as a child. She also realized at that moment why
her father drank so much and got so mad , why Rex never wanted to visit Welch when the children
were younger, and at first his refusal to go to West Virginia with the

Cyber Security And Information Technology
With this being a small section of the overall interview a lot was played to the bear of reality of
how much still needs to be learned. With the point about our nation, intellectual property, cyber
warfare, and attacks on financial institutions. This was a video recording from 2013 about situations
happening during that time. Not being able to see into the future of what would happen what still
needs to be learned and what has worked.
With the point on Sharing information back and forth with the private sector how dose one side or

We will always need to protect our boarders of this country from attackwhether big or small. The
point in the interview was about how do you shore up the boarders without closing them. It was
brought up about the limited resources and using more of a collaborated response with government
resources already working the areas. This would include the US Customs and Border Protection,
Coast Guard that can be operated under the US Navy during war times and Homeland security
during piece times, and the Navy.
These resources are to be allocated by the risk perceived in certain areas that could change based
on information. One of our biggest challenges is to keep America open and stop people that want
to inflict harm to it from getting in. With this being done it was also mentioned, we should still
look to other resources that are able to assist like all ocean ports to share information on what
vessels are carrying and where they are headed. This also needs to be moved internationally to help
identify questionable ships before getting to a United States port.
How to deal with cyber attacks and hacking of public and private sector information. This seems
to be on the side burner since this video. We have had an almost monthly hack into some so called
safe citizen information. So like it was mentioned in the video the private sector and government

What Is Working Towards A Solution Essay
Working towards a solution
Personal Level
Working towards a solution needs to start at the personal level because in order to change the
world, individuals need to first be willing to change themselves. There are many opportunities to
participate on a personal level to help combat hunger. One way to personally fight hunger and
increase food security is to grow your own produce and produce for your neighbor. By growing
personal vegetables, reliance on grocery stores for fresh produce is taken out of the picture. Less
waste is produced when food is personally grown and it is inexpensive. Serving food at a homeless
shelter or food pantry nearby is another personal way to get involved. Volunteering time is

is expected that if a person regularly eats a meal at Bistro163 and cannot pay, they should
volunteer their time as a payment. It is also an expectation that patrons pay more than the
suggested price in order to help others have a meal. It is a pay it forward system. Places like
Bistro163 address hunger in a dignified manner while at the same time building relationships
throughout the community. If more communities adopted this idea, areas of food insecurity could
turn into places where worrying about food becomes a thing of the past.
National Level
Communities that work together can create a difference within their own town or state and also
on a national level. Natural disasters have a big impact on people and food security, so providing
emergency assistance is one way a person could have a national effect on fighting hunger.
Currently in the US, many people are facing the effects of hurricane s firsthand. A hurricane makes
it challenging for travel, leaving grocery stores empty and poorly stocked. Many people are willing
to volunteer and travel to places of natural disaster to provide aid to those in need. Organizations

Analysis Of The Boy In The Striped Pajamas
They say that ignorance is bliss. That is somewhat true, as not understanding the atrocities in our
world would surely make a happier person. However, innocence can also lead to calamity. The
Boy in the Striped Pajamas, by John Boyne, is a coming of age story about Bruno, the son of a
Nazi Commandant under Adolf Hitler. Bruno was initially very ignorant of what was happening in
the world and was very immature about moving from Berlin. As the days went by, he got used to
his new home and his thoughts were maturing, as he started thinking with logic and rationale.
Bruno finally understands that he has to be a good person to everyone regardless what others
might think. His character has strongly developed. Despite Bruno being unaware of his situation
and his father being a Nazi, he matures from being childish and unsatisfied for moving to finally
finding purpose in life by being a good human being.
Bruno, initially, has ignorance about everything going on in his life. For example, his dissatisfaction
with leaving Berlin is demonstrated in many parts of the story. He is shown to the reader as being
innocent, immature, and unable to give things a chance. On many occasions, Bruno complains
about moving to Out With (Auschwitz). He continually complains before even giving himself a
chance to experience it. He was whining and being stubborn. To illustrate, in the novel, the author
says, Nothing, thought Bruno, not even the insects, would ever choose to stay at Out With.

What Is Gilgamesh A Hero
What is a hero? Is it a person who is admired and seen as one with courage, nobility, and heroic
achievements, humble , and helpful and always looking for other s favors? Or is it someone
who is forcing his will through tyranny to be praised as a hero? Of course it s the first option.
Gilgamesh is supposed to be a story of a hero with no comparison of his strength, power and
nobility. But the truth about Gilgamesh is that all he is looking for is his fame and fortune. The
king s tyranny and narcissism had led his people to even say should a shepherd savage his own
flock? (73) Gilgamesh was more like a celebrity who is doing charity in public and on television

So the plan was effective Gilgamesh knew that Enkidu would be there at that time. So when
Enkidu fought with Gilgamesh, he showed Gilgamesh how strong he was. And even with
Enkidu being the one who lost and Gilgamesh the one that won, Gilgamesh was able to test his
courage and strength by fighting him. He knew that if he won that time, he probably wouldn t
win the next time and he would have a very powerful person who can take everything from him
especially fame. Therefore, he decided to be a friend of him, while still keeping him slightly
below him as his subordinate. He could turn off the rise of Enkidu s fame by putting him under
his shadow, and he could use his strength, wildness and kind heart in more dangerous tasks that
would give Gilgamesh more fame and make him into a hero that people would love and talk
about forever making his name rise. Becoming Enkidu s friend was a very wise choice, and would
only benefit Gilgamesh to make his name lasting and in the mind of people. When Gilgamesh
wanted to convince Enkidu to go with him to kill Humbaba, he said I will kill Humbaba, I will
make a lasting name for myself, and I will stamp my fame on men s minds forever. (Gilgamesh
94) He was talking about his name and his fame, as it was all what matter and that is the best
thing in the world. It could be away of him to make Enkidu desiring the same too, but if that was
true he would be more considering speaking about Enkidu s power

Jane Bronte s Jane Eyre
Often called unnecessary, the first eleven chapters of Jane Eyre seem quite pointless to most
readers. However it is through these chapters that BrontГ« is able to explain Jane s personality
to the fullest. The beginning of Jane s story is crucial to the plot because it is through a
traumatic childhood that Jane is able to become the strong independent woman later seen in the
novel. Throughout her early life at Jane is constantly treated as an outsider in her own home,
Bessie explains to her You ought to be aware, Miss, that you are under obligations to Mrs. Reed:
she keeps you: if she were to turn you off, you would have to go to the poor house. I had nothing
to say to these words: they were not new to me: my very first recollections of existence included
hints of the same kind. This reproach of my dependence had become a vague sing song in my
ear; very painful and crushing, but only half intelligible. (1.2.14 16)Throughout her childhood she
is reminded constantly of her role in society and the idea that she is poor and beneath the rest.
This is branded into her personality and is something she carries on throughout most of her life.
Allowing her to continue to be an outsider in the work place and among others at social events.
Early through her young childhood Jane already begins to display her thoughts on equality and
standing up for herself. She states, If people were always kind and obedient to those who are cruel
and unjust, the wicked people would have it all

Dasaratha had four wives and Ravana had a lot and they were all suppose to be loyal to their
husband and satisfy their needs. Also in the story all the rulers, kings, or leaders were all men
even the monkey kingdom and there wasn t one woman who ruled. An example of this in the
story is the leader of the monkey kingdom Sugreeva is a male and the king of Ayodhya,
Dasaratha is also a male. Men also had role to fight and battle while woman weren t aloud to and
were expected to keep doing their stuff they usually do and be a loyal wife. For example all of the
battles that were taken place in the story there were no women in the battle field. Men were
dominant in the ramayana and woman had no power but in today s time it is much different from
that.
In today s society men are expected to have only wife and not multiple and it is also the same for
a woman and if that is broken then it is considered cheating which is a unacceptable thing. That
was not the case in the Ramayana. In our current time men and women rule. An example of this
is the ruler of England Queen Elizabeth II is the current leader of England and is a female. Also
America had a women run for president and even though she didn t win there is out to be a time
soon that a female will become the next president for the United States. This would of never been
heard of in the time of the Ramayana. For war and battle it is acceptable for a women to be
enrolled into the army with men now. There are quite a bit of women

How Does Mary Oliver Use Imagery In Crossing The Swamp
In Crossing the Swamp , Mary Oliver uses the Swamp as a metaphor for life s struggles when she
states Here is swamp, here is struggle and continues to expound on this metaphor throughout the
poem. She relates the physical characteristics of the swamp to going through a struggle and her
use of literary devices helps to drive this metaphor. Through her use of tone and imagery, Oliver is
able to show the transition of the relationship between the speaker and the swamp(struggles) from
one of hopelessness to one of hopefulness. At the beginning of the poem, the tone is very hopeless.
The swamp seems endless to the speaker, suggesting that they think the struggles they are facing
will never be overcome. Similarly, the swamp is thick and

From 1975 to 1980, 17N attacks were deliberately designed toidentify the group with the concerns
of the Greek masses and to capitalize on publicperceptions of American complicity in the

2007, p. 131)
Simply put, the members of 17N had a very narrow scope to their attacks and their reasoning
behind it. Allowing their targets to speak for their objectives and beliefs. Furthermore,
Kassimeris (2007) points out that as 17N tried to link political activism, class conflict, and the
armed struggle (p. 132), they released their manifesto in 1977. Entitled, Appantissi sta Kommata
kai tis Organosseis [A Response to Political Parties and Organizations] (Kassimeris, 2007, p.

necessary (p. 132). Unlike the ELA, 17 November utilized high profile assassinations,
kneecappings, armed raids, bombings and rocket attacks (Kassimeris, 2013, p. 135) as a way to
crystallize public disaffection with the regime and embed itself in mainstream consciousness (p.

motives, they believed that violence was the answer into shaping society into their pre shaped

The Protest Psychosis Summary
Psychiatry and psychology have struggled in the past to contextualize the nature of mental illness.
Through this struggle, mental illnesses and their symptoms have been used as a means of
controlling deviance and pathologizing emotions felt by certain groups of people. Social, political,
and historical factors create the boundaries of sanity and insanity in which hegemonic, institutional
power control minority groups, however, the manner in which these boundaries manifest have

numbers of Black men under the guise of mental illness. Ultimately, this pathologizing of emotions
felt by African American communities persists today. The manner in which Black men and women

  • 2. Iraq War Disaster Running head: IRAQ WAR A DISASTER1 Was the Iraq War a Disaster? Logan Hart English 102 Mrs. McCrady December 2, 2015 IRAQ WAR A DISASTER 2 Was the Iraq War a Disaster? From 1979 to 2003 Saddam Hussein ruled Iraq in a brutal dictatorship. The first action taken against Hussein s regime began in 1990 when Iraq invaded and annexed Kuwait. In a coalition led by the United States, Great Britain, and Saudi Arabia, Saddam Hussein was defeated. From that point the United Nations imposed many sanctions upon Iraq. In 2003 President George W. Bush and the United States asked the United Nations Security Council to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Iraq Warhas damaged the economy in several ways. One way is by decreasing the value of United States currency. In one year the U.S. dollar lost over 30% of its value against the Euro. The price of crude oil also reached record highs of $90 per barrell during the Iraq War. This led to an increWhen the United States first went to war President Bush thought it was a good idea to cut taxes. ...this was the first time in American history that a president took us into a war and cut taxes (Farley, 2009, p. 1). Typically, taxes rise during times of war to help compensate for the cost of fighting. With lowered tax rates prior to and during the Iraq War the United States was put in a difficult predicament. We were required to borrow large sums of money from other countries to finance the war. This is a large part of why we are struggling with a national debt issue today. As of today the United States has accumulated over $18 trillion in national debt. Of that $18 trillion, one third can be attributed to the Iraq War. The amount of money we owe to other countries isn t shrinking either. Our debt has increased by an average of $3.25 billion since 2012. If the amount we owe was divided amongst every taxpaying citizen in the United States each person would have to pay roughly $58,400 to compensate for the amount we owe. The total cost of the Iraq War was over $3 trillion. This $3 trillion could have been used to boost the United States economy, finance the ongoing War on Terror in Afghanistan, or be held as savings for future ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Anti Discriminatory Practice This essay will consider the prominence of anti judgemental and anti discriminatory practice through the examination of the chosen article Queer treatments: giving a voice to former patients who received treatments for their sexual deviation by Dickinson, Cook, Playle and Hallett (2012). The three significant messages highlighted are the harmful medical practice utilised on the patients, the criminalisation of homosexualityuntil 1967 (Dickinson 2010) and the lack of autonomy of nursing profession. In this essay, the harmful medical practice will be discussed in relation to The Code (NMC 2015), the NHS Constitution (DoH 2015) and the Equality Act (2010). The National Health Service (NHS) carried out several treatments to cure homosexuality and transvestism (Dickinson 2010). Chemical aversion therapy involved inducing vomiting by using a strong emetic, apomorphine, whereas electrical aversion therapy involved the patient receiving electric shocks. These treatments were enabled by doctors and nurses to alter the sexual orientation of certain individuals (Dickinson et al 2012). A barbaric torture scene by the Gestapo in Nazi Germany trying to extract information from me is how Percival Thatcher (Dickinson 2015) described aversion therapy from his experience. Because of the intensive nature of the chemical aversion therapy, individuals receiving chemical aversion therapy were inpatients at psychiatric wards (Smith et al. 2004). This highlights how distressing treatments ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Landolt Clock Reaction Lab Report DISCUSSION By analysing the results of The Landolt clock reaction, and the outcomes that occur due to change in concentration and the addition of a catalyst, the data did partially support the hypothesis. That by changing the concentrations of potassium iodate and sodium bisulphite the rate of the reaction will increase. The rate gradually increased per every 10 seconds on the NaHSO3 graph. Whereas compared to the KIO3 graph the rate was more efficient, the reaction was achieved within 5 seconds. However, the second hypothesis regarding the addition of a catalyst, displayed acceptable results. The catalyst increased the speed of the reaction within 10 seconds, which was slightly faster than the reaction times gained from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The tests that had large amounts of distilled water had a long reaction rate due to the breaking of the molecular compounds within the reagents. Secondary data states that the rate law yielded from the iodine clock reaction was rate = k[IO3] 1 (Lyle, Department of Chemistry) which was different to the rate law that this investigation obtained. 0.41 [KLO3]^2 [NaHSO3]^2. This would have happened due to the changing of both KIO3 and NaHSO3, and also by adding more distilled water to the mixture which slowed down the reaction rate. Rate law is important, when regarding iodine clock reactions. The rate law helps to determine what factors impact the rate, and increase the reaction time. Also helps show what factors decrease the reaction rate. There were some limitations that were encountered during the experiment, and the planning stages. Such as, the constant changes made to the method. The method had to be changed three times this was due to scaling back the measurements of the solutions. The solutions that were part of the original method would have resulted in 20 ml of the blue solution, which would waste the sodium bisulfite and potassium, every time a test was conducted. Another limitation was the trial testing to see whether the experiment worked, which produced efficient results. Compared to the actual experiment data, many tests had to be repeated. What creates and maintains significant gender inequality when it comes to decision making? We could look back to1918; when Irish decision makers were made up solely of men. From 1919 to today we see a similar trend of gender inequality. It seems that when it comes to power and decision making, women take the back seat. We can argue that men and woman are naturally good at different things resulting to society creating this gender gap. Power and decision making belongs to men, although ministerial positions do not require physical strength or abilities that a woman would not have by nature, however woman are absent in taking part. Looking into where Ireland stands compared to the rest of the world, we can get an idea of what contributes in maintaining gender inequality when it comes to positions of power in political decision making. Social conflict can be seen all over the world we live in: in sports, politics and normal social engagements. The main point I have experienced with this theory would be the fact that I don t come from a rich, powerful, and prestigious family, which in turn limits my chances of being successful. A wide area network (WAN) is generally used by large corporations or organizations. WANs are very useful to these sorts of associations because it easily allows them to deploy data from their computers to disseminate offices. Large organizations that use multiple facilities usually end up using WANs. Smaller businesses are increasingly using WANs as well. They are able to use WANs if they have at least two secluded sites. WAN usually connects two or more LANs together. LAN stands for local area networks. The internetthat we all use is very much considered a WAN. WANs have existed for many years. They are methodical and controlled much differently from other types of telecommunication systems. WANs are very similar to LANs because they serve almost the same purpose. WANs are still a bit more intricate than LANs of course. In order for a user to use WAN, they first would have to subscribe to a telecommunication providers service. The organizations that choose to use WANs do not own or control any of the communication lines that connect the secluded network systems to other computers. WANs are not used to connect individual computers with each other. They were built to link different LANs together. When the WAN connects the LANs to each other this is called internetwork. Different Schools Of Statutory Interpretation Introduction and Thesis There are multiple schools of thought when it comes to how courts should interpret statues and legislation, some schools advocate a literal, textual reading of the relevant statues, while other schools advocate taking other factors into account when making a decision, factors like the intent of the legislature when they passed the statue. The case AA v BB provides a good look into the issue of statutory interpretation because the two different courts that heard the case applied a different from of statutory interpretation. The lower court stuck to a textual interpretation, whereas the court of appealconsidered the legislative intent behind the relevant statues. This paper will argue that of the two schools of statutory interpretation applied in the case, textualism and intentionalism, neither is completely appropriate and that the pragmatic approach to statutory interpretation is the most appropriate method to use. It will then argue that the decision by the Ontario Court of Appeal in AA v BB is the more convincing decision as it best aligns with the pragmatic approach. Point I: Why the pragmatic approach is more appropriate than a strictly textualist or intentionalist approach. Textualism is a school of statutory interpretation that relies on the text of the statue to determine the true intent of the legislature. Textualism is heavily reliant on the plain meaning rule, which essentially means that when the text of a statue is clear and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For instance, top corporate executives whose job title is CEO or COO are continually selling their company to major customers, stock investors, government officials and many other stakeholders. The techniques they employ to gain benefits for their company are the same used by the front line salesperson to sell to a small customer. Summary Of Rohinton Mistry And A Fine Balance Shakespeare s tragedy King Lear discusses how people quickly blame fate for events that are actually the fault of their own actions, saying that, This is the excellent foppery of the world... when we are sick in fortune, often the surfeits of our own behaviour, we make guilty of our disasters the sun, the moon, and the stars: as if we were villains by necessity (Edmund, King Lear). Similarly, A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry demonstrates that the joys, injustices, and cruelties present in the characters lives happen due to circumstances beyond their control, such as government regulations and the societal traditions and systems surrounding them everyday. Amidst the political turmoil and uproar of the Emergency in India, Rohinton Mistry depicts the lives of good, everyday people as they struggle to gain stable footing in a highly corrupt and hierarchical society. In this depiction of various characters living in Indian society, Mistry portrays how India s deeply rooted societal traditions and systems create an indirect line of causalities that disguises itself as fate. Mistry demonstrates how the characters defiance of traditional Indian gender roles creates a line of causalities that ultimately determine the character s path. Mistry contextualizes these gender roles when he describes that, It was hard for [wives] not to be resentful the birth of daughters often brought them beatings from their husbands and their husband s families (Mistry 100). The author includes this quote to demonstrate the considerably large extent to which males hold power and priority in Indian society, thus making women nearly impotent with the exception of Dina, which may explain why the author gives her a central role in the novel. Therefore, the defiance of gender roles which the society in which they live considers as a crime since the values of misogyny have invaded their worldview is dangerous, but represented in the character of Dina Dalal. As the days went by, he got used to his new home and his thoughts were maturing, as he started thinking with logic and rationale. Bruno finally understands that he has to be a good person to everyone regardless what others might think. His character has strongly developed. Despite Bruno being unaware of his situation and his father being a Nazi, he matures from being childish and unsatisfied for moving to finally finding purpose in life by being a good human being. Bruno, initially, has ignorance about everything going on in his life. For example, his dissatisfaction with leaving Berlin is demonstrated in many parts of the story. He is shown to the reader as being innocent, immature, and unable to give things a chance. On many occasions, Bruno complains about moving to Out With (Auschwitz). He continually complains before even giving himself a chance to experience it. He was whining and being stubborn. To illustrate, in the novel, the author says, Nothing, thought Bruno, not even the insects, would ever choose to stay at Out With. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. What Is Gilgamesh A Hero What is a hero? Is it a person who is admired and seen as one with courage, nobility, and heroic achievements, humble , and helpful and always looking for other s favors? Or is it someone who is forcing his will through tyranny to be praised as a hero? Of course it s the first option. Gilgamesh is supposed to be a story of a hero with no comparison of his strength, power and nobility. But the truth about Gilgamesh is that all he is looking for is his fame and fortune. The king s tyranny and narcissism had led his people to even say should a shepherd savage his own flock? And even with Enkidu being the one who lost and Gilgamesh the one that won, Gilgamesh was able to test his courage and strength by fighting him. He knew that if he won that time, he probably wouldn t win the next time and he would have a very powerful person who can take everything from him especially fame. Therefore, he decided to be a friend of him, while still keeping him slightly below him as his subordinate. He could turn off the rise of Enkidu s fame by putting him under his shadow, and he could use his strength, wildness and kind heart in more dangerous tasks that would give Gilgamesh more fame and make him into a hero that people would love and talk about forever making his name rise. Becoming Enkidu s friend was a very wise choice, and would only benefit Gilgamesh to make his name lasting and in the mind of people. When Gilgamesh wanted to convince Enkidu to go with him to kill Humbaba, he said I will kill Humbaba, I will make a lasting name for myself, and I will stamp my fame on men s minds forever. (Gilgamesh 94) He was talking about his name and his fame, as it was all what matter and that is the best thing in the world. It could be away of him to make Enkidu desiring the same too, but if that was true he would be more considering speaking about Enkidu s power ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Jane Bronte s Jane Eyre Often called unnecessary, the first eleven chapters of Jane Eyre seem quite pointless to most readers. However it is through these chapters that BrontГ« is able to explain Jane s personality to the fullest. The beginning of Jane s story is crucial to the plot because it is through a traumatic childhood that Jane is able to become the strong independent woman later seen in the novel. Throughout her early life at Jane is constantly treated as an outsider in her own home, Bessie explains to her You ought to be aware, Miss, that you are under obligations to Mrs. Reed: she keeps you: if she were to turn you off, you would have to go to the poor house. I had nothing to say to these words: they were not new to me: my very first recollections of existence included hints of the same kind. This reproach of my dependence had become a vague sing song in my ear; very painful and crushing, but only half intelligible. (1.2.14 16)Throughout her childhood she is reminded constantly of her role in society and the idea that she is poor and beneath the rest. This is branded into her personality and is something she carries on throughout most of her life. Allowing her to continue to be an outsider in the work place and among others at social events. Early through her young childhood Jane already begins to display her thoughts on equality and standing up for herself. How Does Mary Oliver Use Imagery In Crossing The Swamp In Crossing the Swamp , Mary Oliver uses the Swamp as a metaphor for life s struggles when she states Here is swamp, here is struggle and continues to expound on this metaphor throughout the poem. She relates the physical characteristics of the swamp to going through a struggle and her use of literary devices helps to drive this metaphor. Through her use of tone and imagery, Oliver is able to show the transition of the relationship between the speaker and the swamp(struggles) from one of hopelessness to one of hopefulness. At the beginning of the poem, the tone is very hopeless. The swamp seems endless to the speaker, suggesting that they think the struggles they are facing will never be overcome. Next Generation Microprocessor Essay Introduces the next generation of processors Yiming Xiao As the need for micro architecture performance modeling power level will continue to work with future workload and performance requirements increase , the designer must make the right choices in defining the next generation of low power microprocessors. In this article , I will mainly talk about the next generation of processors and processor used on smart phones and how they are designed in different situations. next generation processor Firstly, the design team early in the design cycle, consider limiting the power consumption and heat dissipation, you can use an intrinsically low power microarchitecture line.
