This document discusses how integrating building information modeling (BIM) and facility management (FM) helps owners access crucial building data. It presents two case studies where universities used BIM data to avoid manually recreating facility information and establish long-term maintenance plans. Xavier University streamlined data collection for a facilities plan, saving 4-6 months of work. MathWorks required detailed BIM deliverables to populate its asset management systems, leveraging design and construction data. Both projects highlighted the need to involve FM early to ensure usable BIM data delivery.

numbering and naming conventions early.
• BIM/Data savvy project leads (AEC and owner)
are key
• The owner/FM needs to be involved to help
resolve issues and keep the project moving
• Look for BIM-Savvy subs if possible – they may
be the creators of much of the asset data
