4. Overview
Digital Engineering team established with target of 4 key projects to be implemented in 2017:-
• Gain BSI BIM Level 2 accreditation
• Complete BIM Objects Library
• Develop Revit Training programme for internal and external clients
• Establish VR process for Design Review on Live Projects
5. PAS 1192-2:2013 Information Management for the Capital / Delivery Phase of Construction Projects Using Building
Information Modelling.
Tier 2 - Contractor including the design, supply & installation of temporary works systems & solutions to the
construction and associated industries complying with BIM Level 2 in accordance with PAS 1192-2:2013, BS1192-
4:2014 and BS 1192:2007.
Key positive elements observed during the assessment:
• BIM documentation is available to support the BIM processes
• The business has made significant investments in terms of people, systems / tools and processes, for example
the establishment of a BIM champions at regional offices.
• The level of knowledge displayed by staff who participated in the assessment.
• The commitment of senior management to BIM, as evidenced by the attendance and participation of the
Engineering Director during the whole of the assessment.
bsi. BIM Level 2 accreditation was gained on May 18th 2017

and external Temporary Works departments of our clients
Revit Training
2017-2018
New software implementation across all engineering teams,
with internal training for delivery of Propping, Groundworks, Formwork and Bridging projects
7. • BIM Object library
• Revisions control within templates
• Automated Schedules
• Clash Detection
• 4D Phasing
• Common Data Environment
• VR for design review
Improved Capabilities
8. “Integrating the coordinated Revit
model was a huge benefit for the team
on site at Westgate Oxford. We were
able to run a clash detection enabling
the engineers to effectively plan works
and inform our programme, and
communicate this to the wider team.”

12. • Parametric Revit Family developed
from initial Digital Prototype
• Revit Family added to site model at
early stage, confirming product would
meet requirements
• BIM Object accurately represents
actual product, embedded with
accurate data

13. Benefits on the project
• Clash Detection
• Requirements for special
fabrications defined early
• Models produced to show
construction sequencing and
phasing

14. Virtual Reality Project Review
Digital Engineering team established a BIM to VR workflow for reviewing Live Projects:-
• Create 3D Revit model of our Temporary Works solution using Mabey BIM Objects
• Federate Temporary Works model with our clients structure model
• Run a clash interference check in Revit
• Export into the HTC Vive VR System using 3DS Max Interactive
• Review detected clashes and plan resolution
• Review other design considerations such as safety on site, access, phasing and buildability
• Update the Revit model for next issue
16. • Façade Restraint System in Glasgow,
on site for approximately 1 year
• Approximately 173 Tonnes of
Propping equipment to be used
• More than 4,500 individual propping
components in the installation
• Installation in 3 Phases over a period
of just 3 weeks
• 3D model of the Mabey Façade
Restraint System created in Revit
• Federated model produced showing
temporary propping with point cloud
• Clash detection report produced
• Model exported to Virtual Reality to
review and resolve clashes
• Amended model used to develop
Installation methodology
• Phasing sequence added to the BIM
model for 4D planning

19. Benefits on the project
• Improved certainty and confidence in the complicated design and programme
• Design changes are quicker and more efficient
• Automated parts list generated saving engineering time
• Reduced risks on site with a clear view on installation methodology, aiding Health and Safety
• Less potential delays on site, minimizing additional costs and penalties
