Cisco Systems implemented an ERP system in just nine months due to several key factors. They replaced their existing IT infrastructure with a standardized, flexible architecture enabled by current technology. This provided a foundation for becoming web-enabled. The ERP implementation was justified as it standardized processes. Web-enabling provided benefits like centralized access to information for employees and enhanced communication. However, it also introduced security risks by interconnecting Cisco and contractors. While the web-enablement costs were high, Cisco saw significant sales growth and competitive advantages that justified the expenditure.

Retiring Facility Workers: Keep Critical Info from Walking Out the Doorfarandi
With the pandemic contributing to an already existing wave of retirements in the industry, facilities teams are being left with a serious knowledge shortfall. As senior members leave the workforce, critical building information can be lost because this knowledge is often stored in their heads. And when emergencies strike, their replacements often rely on memory to retrieve plans and other documents.
But what if documents, whether in hard copy or digital format, were properly organized and stored for easy, instant mobile access for all stakeholders? With ARC Facilities, this is possible. This is what we discussed in our popular webinar, presented with partner, Facility Executive. Visit the ARC Facilities Website to learn more.
The document summarizes a presentation on smart buildings. It discusses how smart buildings can monitor performance, detect inefficiencies, diagnose issues, and make automatic adjustments to improve sustainability, well-being, productivity, and reduce long-term costs. Examples are provided of actual smart building use cases implemented in various projects. Lessons from these projects demonstrated how smart building technologies provided new insights into disruptions in primary systems and opportunities to optimize energy use and indoor climate. The conclusion discusses how return on investment of smart buildings extends beyond just financial returns by helping to create more comfortable work environments.
The document discusses the Building Intelligence Quotient (BIQ) project which aims to develop an online assessment tool to rank and evaluate intelligent building technologies. It provides background on intelligent buildings and describes the BIQ consortium members and their roles. It also outlines the project status, funding needs, and potential revenue models for the BIQ tool.

The document describes Digital Facilities, a solution that mines old and new building as-built data to enable facilities planning and management. It offers an integrated solution for legacy structures and new buildings, minimizing software and data integration efforts. Digital Facilities provides visibility into capital assets, HVAC systems, and electrical distribution to help answer questions about building components and systems for tasks like capital planning, project planning, and maintenance.
The document discusses the importance of integrating information systems across the various stages of hospital construction and equipment management. Key stages discussed include design and construction, equipment planning and procurement, deployment and fit-up on site, and long-term asset management. Integrating systems like BIM, equipment planning databases, freight management software, and asset management solutions allows for improved data sharing and ensures critical equipment details are captured and transferred smoothly between stages. This reduces risks and costs compared to managing information in disconnected spreadsheets.
Cisco implemented an ERP system and web-enabled architecture to address limitations in its legacy system and enable greater collaboration, scalability, and integration to support its growth strategy. Key factors that allowed implementation within nine months included adopting a standard ERP system for training, prioritizing the project, and limiting customization. The web architecture provided benefits like improved customer service, training, and supply chain integration but required $100 million investment with security risks. As CIO, justifying costs based on standardized processes, scalability, time/cost savings, competitive advantage, and breakdown of implementation costs.

A Better Way to Build
DIGITAL FACILITIESMine new & old as-builds to plan and manage your facilities
CURRENT CHALLENGES
• Old building stock record
information is inaccessible and
outdated
• New building as-builds come in
a variety of software and data
standards that require substantial
software training and maintenance,
and tedious data consolidation
efforts
• Finding and identifying accurate
information about building systems
and components is very hard and can
even be impossible
OWNERS CHALLENGE
DIGITAL FACILITIES
Healthcare owners need reliable information to perform
their future projects planning activities, and existing facilities
management tasks. Over the past decade, newly built projects
benefited from data rich BIM as-builds provided by design and
construction stakeholders.
However, this data was presented to owners in a variety of
formats, software, and data standards, making it very hard to
integrate. Most importantly, owners still lack a solution for the
largest portion of their spatial portfolio, which consists of legacy
structures built prior to BIM and CAD.
Digital Facilities provides an integrated solution for old and
new as-builds. The purpose is to enable facilities planning and
management teams to answer practical questions regarding
building components and systems. DIGITAL FACILITIES
• Offers a solution for old building
stock as-builds prior to CAD and BIM
• Minimizes software training and
maintenance as well as data
integration efforts
• Provides answers to practical facilities
planning and management questions

The Capital Assets module provides visibility to number, type,
and location of equipment requiring capital expenditure on your
campus. This informs and provides more certainty to your fiscal
planning years in advance.
The HVAC Distribution module allows you to understand the
HVAC system distribution across your campus, and visualizes
your supply, return, and exhaust zones. You can search by space,
HVAC equipment, and zones.
FEATURES OF DIGITAL FACILITIES
• Transform your facilities capital
planning, spotting financial risks well
ahead of time
• Forecast the future more accurately
with real time reporting on existing
infrastructure needs
• Achieve faster facilities response time
by providing your engineers and
technicians with the answers they
need
ENABLE FACILITIES PLANNING
AND MANAGEMENT TEAMS
“What should we allocate for capital
equipment purchases through 2020?”
Patrick, Director of Finance
“Our Director of Project Finance wants to
know what are the capital assets expiring
in the next five years. Where do I start?”
Alma, Facilities Planner
“Which AHU feeds the Interventional
Radiology rooms on the eighth floor?”
