The document discusses Building Information Modeling (BIM) and its next level. It aims to discuss BIM-1, which is Building Information Modelling, and BIM-2, which is Building Information Management. It compares the construction processes for small and large projects, noting that large, modern commercial high-rise buildings now utilize primary consultant teams, 3D models, and 3D BIM models, whereas small projects traditionally used 2D drawings. The document argues that modern production of large commercial buildings now faces similar challenges to increased complexity as modern industries like automotive and aerospace.

Building Information Modeling (BIM)
BIM is a process of generating and managing building data during its complete
lifecycle, from conceptual design through operation of the building
Building information modeling(BIM) is an integrated
workflow that enables architects, engineers, and
builders to explore a project digitally before it is built.
BIM is Evolution not Revolution
The creation and use of coordinated,

information about a building project in
BIM is a modern technology and associated set of
processes to produce, communicate, and analyze
‘building models’…..
• ‘Digital representations’ of the building components that follow
parametric rules, which can be manipulated in an intelligent
fashion
• Carry ‘computable graphic and non‐redundant data attributes’
which are consistent, coordinated which can be viewed

What does BIM mean for Civil Engineers?Chun Keung Ng
BIM is a norm for the building industry. How about for infrastructures? Some countries are over confident on the implementation of BIM in both building and civil engineering industries. Is the BIM technology for infrastructures mature and easily available? Are the professionals ready for BIM?
SkyBIM - Accelerate Project Roll-out with Integrated BIM PrototypingSkyBIM
SkyBIM (www.skybim.com) has developed a powerful 'Design-Cost-Build-Manage' BIM platform that can significantly accelerate the roll-out of similar projects by using multidisciplinary, fully costed BIM prototypes. The beauty of SkyBIM is that all important building data is cloud hosted and can be accessed and queried by all project stakeholders - anywhere, anytime - even across multiple projects.
- Cost estimates are real-time and generated at the click of a button.
- Owner receives 'digital doubles' of projects for asset tracking & facilities management.
- Collab, our real-time collaboration tool, allow users to attach real-time information (messages, scheduled reminders, barcoding, status updates, checklists, files, photos, markups, etc) to BIM objects in any context.
- SkyBIM incorporates classification standards such as UniFormat, MasterFormat & OmniClass.
As simple as Lego
Many Revit users tend to overmodel. SkyBIM's approach is to treat BIM elements as PLACEHOLDERS for REAL-WORLD PRODUCT RECIPES. This is much easier and way more flexible. Furthermore recipes are learnt across projects which means costing becomes progressively quicker with each successive project.
Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a powerful tool for visualizing and virtually constructing in 3D. It is also a database where the information and process for adding data is equally powerful, giving owners and operators the ability to integrate BIM into Facility Management (FM) software and use the model to manage the facility over the building's lifecycle. Learn about Building Information Models and how BIM reinforces collaboration and helps project teams deliver better products and services.
Building Information Modelling (BIM) Lessons at University of Hull's Student ...Sewell Construction
Partners shared BIM lessons learned to date on the University of Hull's £30 million student accommodation complex.
The project will see six new accommodation blocks, housing 560 students, open in 2016.
A new protocol for Building Information Modelling (BIM) has been followed from the outset of the project, which saw developers Sewell Construction start on site in June.
BIM already sees collaboration and information shared between engineers, clients, architects and contractors in a 3D format and is widely used within the construction industry, however, the Government will mandate BIM Level 2 for all centrally-procured government contracts from April 2016.
Using these new guidelines on the university site means designs and briefs for the project have been more thorough than ever before, providing further cost and quality assurance for the university.
It also includes looking at the whole life of the building and ensuring facilities management plans are in place from the start, reducing variance in design.
Estates staff from the University of Hull along with project partners from Sewell Construction, ARUP, SES, GSS Architecture and Planon have shared their findings of a pragmatic approach to BIM Level 2 to date with University estates teams from across the Yorkshire region, in a bespoke event at the Hull campus.

presentation by Paul Wilkinson to CIMCIG BIM conference, Building Centre, London WC1 on Wednesday 25 April 2012.
Presentation explains what BIM is (and isn't), and outlines why it has become important in 2012, as the UK construction industry looks to meet a UK Government BIM deadline by 2016.
A healthy amount of salt is vital for maintaining a strong body. Similarly, the presence of BIM decides the health of the construction. It’s the BIM that caters everything in the built environment, including architecture, building design, civil and structural engineering. Find out how BIM has become an indispensable part of the construction with this blog.
A complete BIM Model has interdisciplinary models such as architectural, structural, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and firefighting models.

BIM, Adoption, Implementation and FutureIJERDJOURNAL
ABSTRACT: Building industry becomes more and more competitive for all participants. Recent trends in building industry considering sustainability, material life cycle assessment, improving of building performance, building management system, changes in risk analysis and holistic integrative approach to design. Creation of BIM as a kind of process toll is in line of new demands and challenges. Using BIM became synonymous to more efficient, better quality of work and better financial effects in all of activities related to the construction industry in general. Advantages of implementation of BIM are highly popularized, but in general BIM is adopting very slow and with visible precautions or even scepticisms. Only few countries in the world (USA, UK, Singapore and Australia) adopted BIM and developed it to significant level. Causes for such occurrence are various, depends on specific circumstances, defer from country to country. This paper is analysis of relevant data in the aim to reach more complete understanding of complexity in implementation of BIM and to determine the actual minimum need for the usage of BIM. BIM methodology is simplifying and improving design process and construction procedures, reducing the costs and omissions, allowing better connection between client, designers, engineers on site and manufacturers of building materials. On the other hand implementation of BIM is still complex task for many participants in construction business, due to poor and appropriate legal frame, variety or lack of relevant standards, low financial capabilities or lack of interest in companies, unskilled or low level skilled participants in design process, usage of inappropriate IT technologies etc. BIM is the way the architecture and engineering are or will following, albeit slowly but it is undoubtedly one of key elements of the future in construction industry.
