The orientation covered the employer, chain of command, battalions, probationary firefighter expectations and milestones, training requirements, general expectations of probationary firefighters, department functions, fire station policies, health and safety, responding to calls, personal vehicles, miscellaneous policies, and radio/PPE use. Probationary firefighters are expected to learn, gain the respect of officers, complete required training, and serve a minimum one-year probationary period before becoming full firefighters. The orientation overviewed the department's structure and policies to prepare new recruits.
