SUNSHINE IN JUNE – When you come to Our Saviour, we pray that you can see the SONshine. May you feel
welcomed here and surrounded by the love of Jesus. We ask visitors to let us know you were here by filling out the
Fellowship Pad (it‘s in the hymnal rack) with today‘s date, your name, address, phone number, etc.
HELP US AVOID THE SUMMER SLUMP – Summer vacations are upon us and that's a good thing. We all need to get
our batteries recharged but while we are fishing, sightseeing and camping, the work of our congregation goes on and our
fixed costs remain...well...fixed. We ask that everyone would prayerfully remember Our Saviour congregation and not let
their summer giving fall behind. June and July are always our lowest giving months. It is much easier for our treasurer,
Gay Pivonka, to pay the bills when there is a consistent flow of income and not a roller coaster-like ebb and flow of cash.
We are very fortunate to have Pastors such as Dave and Greg, all of our excellent staff members and this building in
which to worship, and we thank God every day for our blessings. So, please, if you are going to be gone, be consistent in
your giving so that the mission of the church can continue. -- Your Stewardship Board
SOFTBALL NEWS – In spite of a valiant effort to take the lead in the 7th inning, OSLC 2 lost to 1st United Presbyterian
by the score of 9 to 8. And we are pleased to let you know that OSLC 1 defeated Calvary 1 by the score of 11 to 7. This week‘s
games are OSLC 1 vs Calvary 2 at John Muir bottom field and OSLC 2 vs New Freedom at Murphy 1; both games are at
6:45pm. We have been blessed with beautiful weather so far and we will provide an evening of fun and fellowship if you
come out and cheer us on. Bring your voices and your lawn chairs!! - Thanks, Coach Dash.
OLAN MILLS – Appointments are still available on June 28 and 29. If you do not have an appointment scheduled, or to
change an appointment, please call 1-800-866-2263. Allow one hour for your pictures and the review process.
WOMEN IN MISSION – It's time to get involved. Come to the LWML (Lutheran Women's Missionary League)
meeting on Monday, June 14 to find out how. We're planning to work with flowers for Bornemann Nursing Home during
the meeting. See you in the parlor at 7:00!
2. VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL – Please contact the office as soon as possible to register. The first 50 children grades 1-
5 have a cost of $10; after those spots are filled, the cost increases from $10 to $25 per child (pre-K and K students are not
included in this number). VBS will be held June 28-July 1. Registration forms are at the extra counter by the Welcome
Center. Please contact Donna Biebel at thynot@new.rr.com or call her at 468-5547.
DONATIONS FOR VBS NEEDED – Please check the poster board by the Welcome Center for items that you can
donate for our snack time during Vacation Bible School. Unless noted otherwise, donations should be at church no later
than Monday, June 21. All donations are much appreciated and keep the cost of VBS down.
UPDATE YOUR CHURCH RECORDS – When the new Church Pictorial Directory is printed, a new name, address,
phone number (and possibly email) roster will be included. Please make sure that the office has your correct information.
Contact Michelle at 468-4065 or info@oslc-gb.org and update your contact information as soon as possible.
PRESCHOOL – We are taking registrations NOW for the 2010-11 school year— MWF (8:30-11:30) for 4/5-year-olds
and T-TH (8:30-10:30) for 3-year-olds. Call this week (468-3596). Spots are filling up fast so don‘t delay any longer; we
are almost full and a waiting list will be started soon.
HEAR YE, HEAR YE – Imagine a place that connects member's needs, interests, talents, and passions. The Board of
Stewardship is developing such a place. To start it off, they are inviting every member to complete a fun and creative
inventory (survey). The information will be used within the congregation only, to allow members to use their gifts for the
Lord‘s work. This inventory is available at the Olan Mills picture taking sessions and the Welcome Center.
THURSDAY WORSHIP – Summer is a time when many people take time to travel, relax at the cottage, go fishing, or
simply spend time enjoying the outdoors. God's creation should be enjoyed. In response, we should not forget to Thank
and Praise our Heavenly Father. OSLC has established the Thursday service at 7pm for those who can't attend worship on
the weekends. This service is an excellent way to keep our focus on things above. If you are not available to worship on
Sunday, please consider attending on the Thursday prior to the Sunday you will be missing.
ELDERS GOLF OUTING PLANNED – Add this year‘s golf outing to your calendar on August 1 with the first tee time
scheduled for 12:15pm. We will golf 9 holes at The Woods with a picnic lunch and prizes afterwards. Sign up sheets can
be found in the Narthex. Please list each golfer separately but note if you want to golf together. You pay for the golf;
monetary donations will be taken for the food and prizes.
IT’S SUMMER S-T-R-E-T-C-H TIME! – Youth entering grades 6-9 this fall are invited to participate. Summer Stretch
is a full day of ministry through morning servant events, lunch, reflection on God‘s Word in our life, and an afternoon of
fellowship with other Christian youth. Days on the schedule are June 23, June 30, July 28 and August 4. Registration
forms for youth and adults can be found on the Youth Bulletin Board in the office hallway. The cost is $10 per day/$40
for all 4 weeks and includes a Summer Stretch t-shirt. We are limited in the number of youth who can participate only by
the number of adult chaperones we have; please consider helping if you are available.
Forbidden fruits create many jams.
HOLY BAPTISM – Abigail Aileen Ashmore, daughter of Bruce and Melody Ashmore, will be brought into the Lord‘s
family at Our Saviour during the 10:45 am service on Sunday, June 13.
ADULT CONFIRMATION TODAY – During the 10:45 am service, three people will become members of the Our
Saviour family through Adult Confirmation: Melody Ashmore, Jackie Phillips and Mary VanHouten.
THOSE NEAT LITTLE CARDS - Why fill out a Communion Card? So we can track what sheep are lost and missing!
Please fill out a card if you are coming to the Lord's Supper and place it in the offering plate. Thank-you!
SCRIP AVAILABLE IN OFFICE – For those of you who don‘t attend Sunday worship, SCRIP can be purchased from
the office between 8am and 4pm Monday thru Friday. Call ahead if you will have a large order, please.
ARE YOU EXPECTING A NEW FAMILY ADDITION? – When a child is scheduled for Holy Baptism at Our
Saviour, the parents meet with Pastor Dave or Greg to discuss ‗What is Baptism?‖. We now are offering pre-birth pre-
Baptism seminars on a quarterly basis for expectant parents, new parents and your child‘s intended sponsors. Our next
meeting is scheduled for Saturday, August 14 from 9-10am. If you are expecting or are a new parent and plan to have
your child baptized at Our Saviour, please call the office at 468-4065 to RSVP to attend this required meeting.
YOUTH NIGHT WITH CAMP LUTHER – Back by popular demand, Camp Luther will host a Youth Night beginning
at 4:00pm on Wednesday, June 30. For more information, contact Pastor Greg.
YOUTH BRAT FRY – The National Youth Gathering youth will hold a Brat Fry at Festival Foods East on July 9th. We
need donations of Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, A&W Root Beer, ketchup, mustard, and relish. These items can be dropped
off at the church office and labeled ―NYG Brat Fry‖. All items must be purchased from Festival Foods, must have the
orange Festival Foods sticker on, and are needed in the church office by July 7th. Thank you for your support.
SUMMER DONATIONS – Even if you don‘t get to church during the summer, make sure to continue to collect and
save the following: Coke Points, non-perishable food items, cell phones, pill bottles, rummage sale donations. Keep in
mind that this year‘s Super Sale will be on August 21; donations will be accepted until NOON on August 11.
ST. JOHN'S LUTHERAN CHURCH, ALGOMA – Will hold an outdoor church service/picnic open to the public. The
event will be held on July 11 and includes a church service with a polka band at 9:30am followed by raffles, auctions and
food. This could be a model for Our Saviour to follow in the future. All are invited to attend. See poster on bulletin board.
LIFE QUOTE – ―The progress of science is important. But the lives of individual participants in scientific experiments
are just as important. A single human being cannot be sacrificed to advance the interests of science.‖ Robin F Wilson, JD,
Washington and Lee University law professor “Life Quote” is from Lutherans for Life-www.lutheransforlife.org
