Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…
What Should be the Christian View of Anime?Joe Muraguri
We will learn what Anime is and see what a Christian should consider before watching anime movies? We will also learn a little bit of Shintoism religion and hentai (the craze of internet pornography today).
In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

SUNSHINE IN JUNE – When you come to Our Saviour, we pray that you can see the SONshine. May you feel
welcomed here and surrounded by the love of Jesus. We ask visitors to let us know you were here by filling out the
Fellowship Pad (it‘s in the hymnal rack) with today‘s date, your name, address, phone number, etc.
HELP US AVOID THE SUMMER SLUMP -Summer vacations are upon us and that's a good thing. We all need to get
our batteries recharged. But while we are fishing, sightseeing and camping, the work of our congregation goes on and our
fixed costs remain...well...fixed. We ask that everyone would prayerfully remember Our Saviour congregation and not let
their summer giving fall behind. June and July are always our lowest giving months. It is much easier for our treasurer,
Gay Pivonka, to pay the bills when there is a consistent flow of income and not a roller coaster-like ebb and flow of cash.
We are very fortunate to have Pastors such as Dave and Greg, all of our excellent staff members and this building in
which to worship, and we thank God every day for our blessings. So, please, if you are going to be gone, be consistent in
your giving so that the mission of the church can continue. -- Your Stewardship Board
SOFTBALL’S BACK! – Our OSLC softball teams are back in action tonight. Join us on Sunday, June 6th…OSLC 1
plays at 5:30pm at John Muir Lower Field and OSLC 2 plays at 5:30pm at Murphy 2. Bring your voices and cheer us on!!
OLAN MILLS – Appointments are still available on June 28 and 29. If you do not have an appointment scheduled, or to
change an appointment, please call 1-800-866-2263. Allow one hour for your pictures and the review process.
UPDATE YOUR CHURCH RECORDS – When the new Church Pictorial Directory is printed, a new name, address,
phone number (and possibly email) roster will be included. Please make sure that the office has your correct information.
Contact Michelle at 468-4065 or info@oslc-gb.org and update your contact information as soon as possible.
PRESCHOOL – We are taking registrations NOW for the 2010-11 school year— MWF (8:30-11:30) for 4/5-year-olds
and T-TH (8:30-10:30) for 3-year-olds. Call this week (468-3596). Spots are filling up fast so don‘t delay any longer; we
are almost full and a waiting list will be started soon.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL – The official registration for VBS has ended but we don‘t want anyone to miss out.
Please contact the office as soon as possible to register. The first 50 children grades 1-5 have a cost of $10; after those
spots are filled, the cost increases from $10 to $25 per child. VBS will be held June 28-July 1. Registration forms are at
the extra counter by the Welcome Center. Please contact Donna Biebel at thynot@new.rr.com or call her at 468-5547.
2. COOKIES –Cookies this week are being served by LWML, a women's ministry organization. Enjoy a cookie and look at
the materials the ladies have provided. Serving cookies is just a small part of this group's mission and potential.
DONATIONS FOR VBS NEEDED – Please check the poster board by the Welcome Center for items that you can
donate for our snack time during Vacation Bible School. Unless noted otherwise, donations should be at church no later
than Monday, June 21. All donations are much appreciated and keep the cost of VBS down.
SWEET MONDAY – June 7 is a wedding theme. Bring some lady friends (easy way to invite your neighbors to church!)
to celebrate weddings! If you can, bring your wedding pictures and items (like your dress!) We have some sweet treats
coming, so bring your sweet tooth, too. We chat from 7:00 to 7:30, then get into our wedding theme. We're done by 8:30.
HEAR YE, HEAR YE – Imagine a place that connects member's needs, interests, talents, and passions. The Board of
Stewardship is developing such a place. To start it off, they are inviting every member to complete a fun and creative
inventory (survey). The information will be used within the congregation only, to allow members to use their gifts for the
Lord‘s work. This inventory is available at the Olan Mills picture taking sessions and the Welcome Center.
THURSDAY WORSHIP – Summer is a time when many people take time to travel, relax at the cottage, go fishing, or
simply spend time enjoying the outdoors. God's creation should be enjoyed. In response, we should not forget to Thank
and Praise our Heavenly Father. OSLC has established the Thursday service at 7pm for those who can't attend worship on
the weekends. This service is an excellent way to keep our focus on things above. If you are not available to worship on
Sunday, please consider attending on the Thursday prior to the Sunday you will be missing.
SUMMER LIBRARY HOURS – The OSLC library will continue to be available to members this summer during
regular office hours…Monday thru Friday from 8am to 4:30pm. Michelle‘s lunch break is from 12-12:30pm each day; on
occasion, you may find the building locked for a portion or all of that time period.
ELDERS GOLF OUTING PLANNED – Add this year‘s golf outing to your calendar on August 1 with the first tee time
scheduled for 12:15pm. We will golf 9 holes at The Woods with a picnic lunch and prizes afterwards. Sign up sheets can
be found in the Narthex. Please list each golfer separately but note if you want to golf together. You pay for the golf;
monetary donations will be taken for the food and prizes.
WOMEN'S ONLINE MISSION NOTES – Check out what our women in mission have been doing by visiting the
LWML blog @ http://oslclwml.blogspot.com. Via Facebook, search Lutheran Women in Mission and our page pops up.
STRAWBERRY SEASON IS COMING! – Do you want to make it easier to core strawberries? Our new LWML is
selling strawberry corers for just 50 cents each. The basket of corers can be found at the coffee bar.
IT’S SUMMER S-T-R-E-T-C-H TIME! – Youth entering grades 6-9 this fall are invited to participate. Summer Stretch
is a full day of ministry through morning servant events, lunch, reflection on God‘s Word in our life, and an afternoon of
fellowship with other Christian youth. Days on the schedule are June 23, June 30, July 28 and August 4. Registration
forms for youth and adults can be found on the Youth Bulletin Board in the office hallway; REGISTRATION IS
NEEDED BY JUNE 9TH TO PARTICIPATE ON JUNE 30TH. The cost is $10 per day or $40 for all 4 weeks and
includes a Summer Stretch t-shirt. We are limited in the number of youth who can participate only by the number of adult
chaperones we have; please consider helping if you are available.
The task ahead of us is never as great as the Power behind us.
ARE YOU EXPECTING A NEW FAMILY ADDITION? – When a child is scheduled for Holy Baptism at Our
Saviour, the parents meet with Pastor Dave or Greg to discuss ‗What is Baptism?‖. We now are offering pre-birth pre-
Baptism seminars on a quarterly basis for expectant parents, new parents and your child‘s intended sponsors. Our next
meeting is scheduled for Saturday, August 14 from 9-10am. If you are expecting or are a new parent and plan to have
your child baptized at Our Saviour, please call the office at 468-4065 to RSVP to attend this required meeting.
YOUTH NIGHT WITH CAMP LUTHER – Back by popular demand, Camp Luther will host a Youth Night beginning
at 4:00pm on Wednesday, June 30. For more information, contact Pastor Greg.
AN IMPORTANT CALENDAR ADDITION – The National Youth Gathering youth will hold a Brat Fry at Festival
Foods East on July 9th. We are looking for donations of Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, A&W Root Beer, ketchup, mustard, and
relish. These items can be dropped off at the church office and labeled ―NYG Brat Fry‖. All items can only be purchased
from Festival Foods and must have the orange Festival Foods sticker on them for us to be able to use them for the brat
fry. Items need to be to the church office by July 7th. Thank you for your support.
MILWAUKEE BREWERS OPPORTUNITY – Pilgrim Lutheran is organizing a coach trip to Miller Park to watch the
Brewers vs. the San Francisco Giants on Monday, July 5TH. It is a 3:15 pm game; the bus will leave from Pilgrim Lutheran
at 11:30am and return around 8pm. The cost is only $30 for an outfield loge seat and the bus ride. You cannot do better
than that! Call Tim Ashmann at 965-2224 or 562-3110 with reservations or questions.
QUILTERS UNITE – Camp Luther is pleased to announce that it will host its 3rd Annual Quilt Auction on November 6.
Last year over 300 items raised nearly $15,000 and the goal for 2010 is $20,000. All proceeds will benefit the Camp
Luther Scholarship program which provides camperships to children who need financial assistance. If you or your group
can donate a quilted item, please pick up a ‗Quilt Information Sheet‘ from the office bulletin board. You will need one
form for each item; forms should accompany your item and be received at Camp Luther no later than October 1. If you
have any questions, please see the information on the bulletin board or contact Quik at Camp Luther.
LIFE QUOTE – ―The foundation of national morality must be laid in private families… How is it possible that Children
can have any just Sense of the sacred Obligations of Morality or Religion, if, from their earliest Infancy, they learn their
Mothers live in habitual Infidelity to their fathers, and their fathers in as constant Infidelity to their Mothers?‖ John
Adams, former president of the United States “Life Quote” is from Lutherans for Life-www.lutheransforlife.org
