Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…
In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

etc. Please come and worship with us again!
CHILDREN WELCOME – The nursery and Sunday School are in session today. Toddlers to age 3 are welcome to the
Nursery; children age 4 to grade 6 are welcome to attend Sunday School (registration forms can be found in the office
hallway). The nursery is located in the basement; SS children go to class after the Children‟s Message. Childrens‟
bulletins, for ages 3-6 and 7-12, can be found on the counter in the Narthex. For assistance, please talk to an usher.
LENT IS A TIME FOR LEARNING – As your pastors prepare a special Lenten mid-week sermon series, you are
encouraged to attend worship twice a week…on Sunday and Thursday for the special Lenten worship. Details coming…
2. YOUTH NIGHT – For youth in grades 6-12…Please join us this week Wednesday beginning at 3:30 pm. A $3 donation
is requested for a meal served around 5:15 pm. Grade 6 leaves at 6pm when grades 7 and 8 go to Confirmation. Grades
9-12 are welcome to stay until Confirmation ends at 7:30 pm. Questions? Ask Pastor Greg…greg@oslc-gb.org

A limited number of the large print version is available in the office.
CALLING ALL PIZZA LOVERS – The Super Bowl Pizza pre-sale is underway and pizzas will be available for pick up
next week on Super Bowl Sunday. The youth will assemble fresh ingredients to create home-made Take and Bake pizzas
for your neighborhood party or just your family. Buy extras and freeze to bake on your next „I don‟t feel like cooking‟
day. To guarantee you get what you want, preorders are the way to go. A small amount of extra pizzas may be available
for purchase on pick up day. Order forms are in your bulletin today and extras can be picked up at the Welcome Center.
Please return completed order forms and payments to the Youth Board mailbox or the Welcome Center today.
When you get to your wit’s end, you’ll find God lives there.
DON’T FORGET – Check the Member-to-Member board when you come to church. There are new items from
members and the community added all the time! Maybe today you can help someone or change a life today!
PRESCHOOL REGISTRATION – Registration for the 2010-11 school year is underway. If you wish to reserve a place
for your child, please stop by the church office for a Registration Packet. We are offering a new MWF 3-hour (8:30-
11:30) program and a T-TH 3-year-old session from 8:30-10:30am. We hope to fill the T-TH morning session and also
offer an afternoon class from 12:30-2:30pm (a minimum number of students are needed to run any class offered). If you
have neighbors and friends looking for a school for their child, please ask them call us at 468-3596; we would love to
share our programs with them. Want to hand out Pre-K pamphlets for us? Just ask for them at the office.
CALLING ALL GOOD GIRLS - Were you involved in the Bad Girls Bible study over the past several months? If so, I
have a treat for you. Liz Curtis Higgs sent some goodies for each lady who read the book (that includes those who only
bought the book and never got to a meeting). See Stephenie on Sunday or you can stop by the office and ask Michelle.
SWEET MONDAY IS FEBRUARY 1 – All women are invited to bring lady guests (guys just wouldn't enjoy it!) to our
first Sweet Monday! Our first one is called "Mug and Muffin." Bring your favorite mug. If you forget or are running late,
don't worry about it. Come a little early. Come late. Come as you are. Just come and share a little time socializing with
other women. From 7-7:30, we‟ll fill our mugs and enjoy some muffins. From 7:30 to 8:30, we‟ll have a devotion and
short program, and then enjoy each other's company. Sorry, no child care at this time. If someone wants to organize it, let
me know. Stephenie (264-8317 or stephhov@hotmail.com)
SODA DONATIONS ACCEPTED – Cans of Coke and Pepsi products are again requested for the monthly Fish Fry.
Regular, diet and caffeine-free (both regular and diet) are needed. All donations are appreciated.
THE DRINK IS ON YOU… – But I think it should be in a cup, don‟t you? We are looking for donations of 8 oz
Styrofoam cups for the kitchen and coffee bar. Can you donate a few? All donations, big and small, appreciated.
CENSUS JOBS AVAILABLE – Check out the information on the Member-to-Member board about test days and sites
for testing for census jobs coming in Spring. Testing is offered in many places during the month of January 2010.

talent considered; guitar is a high priority. Please contact Marlys Brunsting at 391-0473 or contact the church office.

to church with the cap on. Also collecting used cell phones for local domestic abuse victims and „Cells for Soldiers‟.

items. Next month we will begin collecting personal and cleaning items for the March for the Homeless campaign.
SCRIP – Don‟t forget to purchase or order SCRIP today at the Welcome Center. You can purchase cards for yourself or
to use as gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, a thank you for someone special or any other occasion.
IT’S GIRLS’ NIGHT – As supporters of Northeast WI Lutheran High School, our entire church membership is invited
to be special guests at no charge (just tell them you are a member of Our Saviour) for the NEWLHS Girls‟ Basketball
games on Thursday, February 11 (6pm-JV; 7:30pm-Varsity). Young ladies of Redeemer and Trinity Lutheran schools
will participate in a short game during the half-time of that evening's Varsity game. At the end of the half-time, the 'A'
girl's Redeemer/Trinity basketball team will be introduced. Join us for fun, fellowship and some great games.

opportunities for adults, youth and families and one on summer camps) can be found at the Welcome Center. The
brochures include descriptions of the events and accommodations as well as registration forms.
LIFE QUOTE – “Maybe you‟ve had an abortion and don‟t think that God can ever forgive you. You‟re wrong. Jesus
suffered on the cross for ALL your sins and all MY sins. Pray to the Lord and ask for His forgiveness (Colossians 2:13).”
