African agriculture faces challenges from climate change and underfunding of agricultural research. Integrating climate change into agricultural research for development (ARD) in Africa is needed to help the continent adapt to climate changes threats to food security while pursuing mitigation strategies. However, ARD in Africa currently receives little domestic support and external funds are often fragmented and do not align with African priorities. The European Initiative for Agricultural Research for Development should support more strategic and coordinated approaches to integrating climate change into ARD by ensuring efforts are harmonized with African institutions and priorities to most effectively address the real needs on the ground.
