The stomach is located in the upper left portion of the abdomen between the T10 and L3 vertebrae. It can be divided into four anatomical regions: the cardia, fundus, corpus, and antrum. The stomach receives blood supply from the celiac artery and drains into the portal vein system. It is innervated by both the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous systems. The parasympathetic vagus nerve controls motor and secretomotor functions while the sympathetic nerve fibers are involved in pain sensation and control of the pyloric sphincter. The stomach acts as a reservoir for food and aids in digestion through peristalsis and secretion of gastric juices.
